I recently had questions about pianos. I really appreciated that they are very knowledgeable and could give me pros and cons of acoustic versus electric and different makes. They are very interested in helping you find exactly what fits your needs, and all this without pressures. They have the finest quality whether you’re looking for recorders, harmonicas, or pianos, all of which we have purchased in the past from them. No need to go anywhere else. If it’s not at the store immediately, they will get it in for you. Quality, sincere concern, and integrity—you can’t beat what they offer in that regard.

I really want to like this place, but I just havent had good experiences here. I went in to buy my nephew some guitar strings and got lectured on the history of strings and that I didnt know what I wanted. It was bizarre. I literally asked for a specific type of strings and wanted to know the prices per the brands, but ended up just waiting a lot of time for nothing. I do not recommend going here.

My first time into Bill Harris Music was a delight. They have much more than the standard lines of equipment. Ford made the comment that it is the customers individual sound taste and justification towards their buying decisions. That means a lot to me as a customer knowing that I wasnt going to be just sold.Ill be back soon.

I went in on a Saturday as this was a music shop I had bee trying to get in to see but the hours were so odd at times and it wasnt open at 3 on another Saturday. I was greeted by a woman who pounced on me and told me to to play the guitars in the shop (which I have no problem with, but there are ways to be polite too). I purchased a cheap mandolin and was happy with the price, quality, and service. In fact, the service was really good, but that mustve been because I was the only customer in the store. The next weekend, I went back to try and sell a guitar and much to my chagrin, the owner was late to his own store, and I had to deal with the woman who was rude on my earlier visit. He offered me a fair, but still low price on the guitar, and then blatantly ignored my business that I offered him which included buying a relatively expensive guitar if he could come up on the trade offer. After he showed no interest in me, I took my business elsewhere and bought a guitar for an even higher price. If you can get past the low quality service, dirty shop, and not exactly stellar selection, then by all means head to Bill Harris. The prices are good and they offer a ton of services it seems. That being said, I would look elsewhere before settling on this shop to spend your money at.

Ford really listened to me as I was attempting to explain what type of strings to put on my guitar. In addition to Ford, other staff were also helping me and were likewise very knowledgeable, patient, and solicitous with me. I will go back for all of my guitar needs because of a great experience of knowledge and customer service that I felt. In addition to guitar, Bill Harris Music has so many more instruments and accessories that would most likely fit your musical preference.

I always enjoy going to this store for my beginner-guitar needs. Ive been playing for a few years but am still very much a beginner. I like supporting family-owned stores whenever I can, and Ford, who pretty much runs the show now, has always been a great help. There are a lot of complaints on hear about the older lady who owns the place. I own Guymon Electric in Provo. I did Many electrical jobs for Bill Harris Music and their other buildings. Never in over 12 years did Bill or Joy complain about any bill or any work that I did. They paid me whatever I presented to them. What great people to work for. I consider them to be good people to work with, and am sure they believe they are fair with their customers. They can be trusted to treat people fairly. Bill Harris Music was one of my very best accounts. I did not have to worry about how long a job took or how much it cost. They trusted me and, of course, I trusted them . . . or I would have been worried.

Several years ago I bought some piano music for my sister for Christmas. When I got to the counter to pay, Mrs. Harris was the cashier. She insulted my choice of music, which caught me completely off-guard. I should have said something and walked out, but I didnt have time to shop elsewhere and couldnt think of what to say. It was just so rude of her, and how on Earth would she think that was good business, or even appropriate behavior in general?

I know these guys have a bad rep but I actually really like it. If you are looking for guitar center this is not the place, but if you want a great place to find a great deal on an intermediate to advanced guitar it is wonderful. I love the selection here and I feel like there are always three or four guitars I really want. Dont get me wrong this is not for people who are looking for a walmart for music this isnt the place, but it never feels like a used car dealership where they are constantly on you to buy something. For what I am looking for they are perfect and they understand that this is a town of college students and have done, a lot of little things for me for little to nothing. This is the perfect shop for me.

I WAS in the market for a bass guitar and amp and have since found another business that is deserving of my money. I came to visit the store around 12:15 I walk in and the place is absolutely deserted. I look around for someone to talk to and find no one so I decide to look around for myself. I literally had to turn on their lights so I could see in the show rooms. After finding and looking at what I came for I left the store. On my way out an older woman lounging on sofa asks me Were you the one rummaging around back there for a long time? I dont like when people come in and I dont know about it. Next time yell. First, I did no rummaging. Second, you knew I was back there why did you not approach me to make a possible sale and answer questions. Third, you should not expect a new visitor who has never been in your store to YELL FOR HELP WHEN THEY ENTER. I should not have to turn lights on for you. Your store opens at 12 I doubt its very hard to get out of bed to make it to work on time to turn lights on. Anyway, there are better places to go. Dont come here.

I had previously reviewed Bill Harris with one star because it legitimately was the worst experience Id ever had at a music store. (The old lady is really mean, but shes not always there)The owner had responded to my review, so I decided to go back in yesterday anonymously to give it another chance. I walked in at 5 minutes to close, and I was surprised that they let me walk around and browse the piano music. Not sure if the guy that was working was the owner or not, but it was BY FAR a better experience than the last time. He showed me to the piano music and was overall really pleasant to work with. Not sure if this was a fluke, or if they really have improved as a company, but I will be going back in the future.

I went in to buy a keyboard and was treated ok until the old lady (who had obviously been sleeping on the couch until I asked about the instruments) started talking about her strong political views. I had a horrible experience at Bill Harris Music! This is why. I spent my hard earned money on a harmonica. I was disappointed when the harmonica did not work. I went back to the store to see what could be done. The man I spoke to said that there was no refund and he was not going to return the harmonica. When I asked to see the store return policy, he said that I am the owner and I am not going to do that. He became argumentive and agressive raising his voice at me. When I went to speak, he talked over me. He also called me dude never finding out my name! I spent money there and he was calling me Dude! I am a disabled vet, and my name is not dude. I walked out felling robbed. Further more the store is a mess! I will never shop there ever. When I told him I would not return he said my grandpa built this buisness. It was here long before you shopped here and it will be here after you leave. Decide for your self. As for me I recommend any other music store. Good day sir!!!

Would like to say the place was great but was disappointing. We walked in and there was a lady at the desk and there was stuff everywhere all over her desk and she acted as if it was a nuisance that we were there in the first place. So she yelled across the store for some guy and he came to come help us. He went looking in the back for an item came out with two items that were severely overpriced for the conditions they were in. So we just decided we would go elsewhere. The store looked well and other areas. But customer service does go a long way.

I would agree with the other reviews and confirm that they are accurate.I felt mistrusted right when I walked in the door. I am a musician and can play well, along with that I take great care of instruments. Mainly we were treated like children who were in the wrong social class. I asked to play the piano and guitar and my friend was there to buy a harmonica and they scowled at us wherever we went. I treat my nieces and nephews with more courtesy around my instruments than how they treated me. Needless to say we took our money elsewhere.

I am shocked and amazed that this business is still open.I have had several negative experiences, but since I just tried them one last time today, Ill just tell you what to expect if you decide to enter the nightmare that is Bill Harris Music. The place is in absolute shambles. I would be terrified to buy anything because all their products are treated horribly. Its all buried under mounds of paper and garbage. The place looks like an episode from Hoarders or something. Disastrous. The service is appalling. Bill himself can be friendly, but doesnt know anything. He has employed a younger guy who is a bit more helpful, but the dude is totally paralyzed by the logistical nightmare that the Harriss have created. They didnt know if they had what I was looking for, and ended up just scrounging through boxes of actual junk to find one. Finally I just gave up and left and went to Summerhays in Orem where they gave me exactly what I needed with a smile. The prices seem reasonable, but I really have no idea what condition anything is in because the place is such a train wreck. STAY AWAY.

Review №66

Great potential- better than most reviews say.I have been to this place a few times. The older couple dont really care about the business because they make their money elsewhere, but the son has some really cool ideas for the place he was showing me. I know this sounds horrible, but while he was explaining this to me I felt, man I cant wait till the older couple kick the can and he runs the place. The place has the potential to make Provo musicians not want to go to SLC to buy stuff. I will admit somethings are a bit over priced, but as you read throughout the other strands, they give you a deal.I went in there to get some supplies to restore an Ibanez acoustic guitar that my sister bought in Amsterdam and the son was very helpful- better customer service than I ever got from Guitar Center. Giving me tips on how to restore it and restring it (it is classical and I have always worked with steel strings). You could tell he was interested in helping. I also bought a BOSS SYB 5 pedal there cheaper than anywhere I could find. He explained to me that the things that are expensive to ship are what drives their prices up a bit for some of the items, but small items like strings, etc. are competitively priced. The only time I was not happy with the price is I asked for a hard shell bass case- they asked $200 for it, saw it online for $100, and eventually ended up getting it for $65, with shipping costs. Somethings could be better priced to make me want to go there always. I could see how something like that could translate into a lot of their items.I really do think this place has the potential to do better, if not amazing. I can see why it gets bad ratings because, like I said, I have been in there a few times, and the older couple dont really run a business- they are just grumpy and dont really want to help out and have nothing better to do than sit in that place making it worse. As long as I live in Provo, I will still stop by and hope that things go the way the son wants.
