Ks is tucked in this cozy little spot on Center Street in Provo and has a clean modern aesthetic. The staff at the restaurant were super friendly. We got a table right away without having to wait, which is a bonus on Friday night, but I know there were some that came after and did have to wait. We decided to share the Katsudon Domburi large size and had two sides (the Goyza Dumplings and the Korokke). The Katsudon was well flavored and simple. There is a subtle, not overpowering sweetness to the pork that I enjoyed and the presentation was nice. The sides were great too...the Goyza had a lovely crispness but it wasnt packed with filling by any means. The Korokke didnt have as much flavor as I was expecting... I think they could do more with that, because the elements are good...just missed a little bit of flavor. Overall I really enjoyed our dinner here and the price and service was fantastic.
Loved this place! All the food we tried was great. Especially partial to the ginger pork. Amazing! Definitely would recommend for a great casual dining spot with great Japanese food here in Utah County
First time trying this place based on the google reviews. Very pleasantly surprised! Flavorful food, attentive and cheerful staff and good prices. Ordered the Korean bbq and spring rolls. Cant wait to go again when Im next in the area the food was so good. Only recommendation might be to amp up the ambiance of the place, no real décor to speak of, but maybe thats by design?
I didn’t know what to expect and was quite pleasantly surprised. The first thing we noticed is that every employee there speaks Japanese. It’s rare these days to find a Japanese restaurant that is authentic Chinese. Most are run by Koreans or others and they’re not legit. This one is legit. The menu items are all things you would see in Japan. The dead giveaway that this place takes their food seriously is the miso soup. Taste it carefully. It’s not made solely with the pre-made paste bought in the store. You can taste the fish and natural oils from a made-from-scratch miso. So delicious. We ordered a curry katsudon. The meat was perfectly crispy and the curry was pretty good. Maybe a tiny bit curry would have been better to finish off the generous amount of rice. We also got the spicy poke, which might have had a little bit too much sauce for me. (I know - poke is more of a Hawaiian style thing but I wanted something cool to eat. 😉) Prices are very reasonable. Overall, I was super impressed. Great service, even better food.
The Best Japanese Food 💛 !!& Phil Is Amazing. The restaurant is always very clean and always has a great atmosphere. The food is delicious -I crave it for days.We Love Ks Kitchen!
This is a hidden gem that I would happily recommend to anyone. Vast array of options and everything is made with care and intention. One thing you have to get is the karaage chicken. LOOK AT THAT JUICE. It’s crispy crackly on the outside, has amazing ginger fragrance, perfect salinity.... did I mention it’s juicy? For real though, treat yourself to this place. It’s honest, straightforward cuisine at a good price that will leave you with a desire to come back as soon as you can.
Such a wonderful place!! Absolutely loved the service that we received. They had wonderful staff, and they were super friendly. More people need to visit this place! It’s super good food. I actually ordered another meal that I ate so fast that I forgot to take a photo of it! I will be going back again. The portions were very well sized.
Above average flavors and rice. Great friendly service and atmosphere.Recommend a stop by!Only warning.... For the American palette the meat isnt trimmed like most Americans prefer. The meat is another more authentic cut and preparation. The fat on the meat adds great flavor and texture but again is not a typical American preparation for those not inclined to fattier cuts.Response to reply: please dont take the 4 as anything less than great! Ill go back. For me 5s are for Wows. This, for me, just wasnt a Wow but was well above average. Perhaps the next dish I try will be. 😁 All the best until then! Much success!
I absolutely love this place. I cannot go week without eating their Katsu curry at least once. It’s delicious, I love it and you should try it. The curry is just the right amount of spicy and just leaves you wanting more with every bite. It’s great for takeout also. My business partner lived in Japan and says this is as authentic as it gets.
We had such a great experience here. The owner was probably the kindest person I’ve ever met. Extremely quick and amazing service. Food is awesome too!
Ks Kitchen is a great Japanese restaurant in downtown Provo. I came here as a recommendation from some Japanese who told me this is the best Japanese food around, and they were right. The food is pretty authentic and reminds me of the time Ive spent in Japan. The food is simplistic but tasty, in true Japanese style. Fairly priced. Restaurant was simple, cozy and very clean. The service was excellent, super nice and friendly and love how the owner warmly welcomes everyone who enters and the kind manners they show as every customer leaves.
My absolute favorite Japanese restaurant in Utah! I grew up eating home-style Japanese food and this is the most authentic food I’ve found here. Everything I’ve ordered is fantastic and the family who runs the restaurant is great! Everything is served with miso soup and a small cabbage salad. They just started making melon pan every Tuesday as well! It makes me feel like I’m back in Japan, and it’s in Provo’s historic center so it’s a fun place to be.
This is the food you would eat if you went to a typical Japanese family home. All kinds of bowls with combinations of meat and vegetables. Sides are just as good as the main course. My favorites are the potato salad and gyoza (dumplings). The Chicken, Salt Pork, and Ginger Pork were amazing. We will be back here on a regular basis. They just opened but show great promise with a simple menu and very reasonable pricing!
The food was delicious and the portions were very generous. My husband also loved it. He served his mission to Japan and felt the food was pretty authentic. We will definitely go back!
The food is decent enough, but the service is AWFUL! And when I say awful, I dont just mean slow or forgetful, but outright adversarial. We made a reservation for 14 people, and ended up having 17 people show up. They accommodated the first two extras, but then put up a nearly 30 minute fight, including a call to the owner who asserted, as the manager had, that they had already been accommodating enough and that it was our fault for having a larger party than planned. If this were a Michelin-starred restaurant with a month-plus waiting list and meticulously planned seating, I could understand that. But it wasnt. Its a casual bistro that had more than 50% open tables at the time, including two that were adjacent to our party. Ive done catering for over 15 years, and Ive executed events with planned seating for over 300 guests. Ive never had a single one where seating charts didnt have to be adjusted last minute. And Ive always made it work just fine. Somehow these guys couldnt figure out how to grab a chair from an adjacent table and put it at the end of our table, because the owner says thats very complex and difficult and requires extensive planning. By contrast, I took a group to another local Japanese restaurant the next city over just last Friday, without even making a reservation. I just walked in about 10 minutes ahead of my group and let them know we would have at least 10 people, but possibly as many as 16. Without even consulting a manager or owner, the hostess just looked at the dining area (which is smaller and less open-plan than Ks), figured out how to get us started with 10, and came up with an idea for accommodating more if they showed up. Thats proper service and ingenuity, and she did it on the fly. I dont know if Ks realizes that they are just a block down the street from a convention center. They cant afford to be this incompetent at handling unexpected groups, or theyre guaranteed to draw poor reviews from convention-goers.Ive already seen one review from another person in my group, and the owner doubled down on their inflexible attitude in their response to that one. I imagine theyll do the same here, insisting that its all our fault for underestimating our party size. But as I said, Ive been catering for longer than this place has been in business, and I keep getting jobs because Im good at adapting, which happens almost every single job. Ks needs to learn to adapt, or they simply have no business in the service industry.
One member of our party had to stand the entire time because he would have been a “fire hazard” if he pulled up a chair. Not worth the money or time- unhappy with the power trip by the manager tonight. Still here, we won’t be back, sadly.
The food here is delicious!!! Dine-in or takeout, it’s the best(though it’s better fresh)! The prices are very reasonable and the customer service is high caliber. They go out of their way to serve you and make you feel the most comfortable possible. Ex: We picked up a takeout order and he goes out of his way to open the door for us.
Guys. You gotta go here. The best service in Provo. And their food so fresh and flavourful. Really amazing experience. Very satisfied!! You gotta try Gyozas and mashed potatoes balls (forgot the name) were fun to eat!! Its hard to keep 5 star rating on Yelp, but I get why they got it!!
Amazing!!! Service was quick and helpful and the food was out of this world good. We were a group of 6 and all got different items on the menu and we all loved our choices so much! Would definitely recommend the katsudon!Btw: katsudon is the dish they always make in anime’s and it looks so amazing. K’s kitchen version outshined all the animes combined!! So yummy! Still thinking about it weeks later. The serving sizes are great too, a regular could have fed me twice or more if I had actually ate based on fullness vs taste.
This place is so good! First off, the food is authentic and the flavors are well done in each menu item. Second, you won’t find a restaurant with better customer service. They go above and beyond and the service is quick. I’m definitely making this a regular for when I go out to eat!
This place is AWESOME!!! The owner is very friendly and welcoming, he recommended us to try the salted pork with rice and it was just amazing. Its very flavorful and I wasnt expecting that considering how ordinary it looked. Price is really good with such good quality of food and services. Would definitely visit again soon.
This place is awesome! Great food and great service. Well be back soon.
Phenomenal service! Staff and owner were attentive and friendly. I had the gyudon. The meal was refreshing and had very mild and tasty flavors. The restaurant was busy, but it didnt feel crowded. Great experience overall!
Some of the best Katsu I’ve had. Great service. Even though the restaurant was packed they never let my drink empty. Loved it.
When I eat Japanese food I expect to eat food that tastes Japanese. No brainer right? Fortunately K’s kitchen nails it unlike so many other Japanese restaurants in Provo.I’ve had several of their dishes and they are all excellent. The tonkatsu in particular is perfection.I believe the owner of the restaurant is usually the one serving you as well. So he puts his heart and soul into food service and does a great job.The only potential drawback is if you want something really fancy, that’s not what K’s will give you. It truly is pure, standard, Japanese food. (but done really well.)
My husband and I loved this restaurant! The wait on a Friday night was about 15 minutes, which is amazing. They were busy, though! We sat down and were immediately approached by the owner (I believe it is owned by a man and his wife (who is the cook!). He said they were very busy, but to get his attention when we were ready to order. We were ready within a few minutes and he came over very quickly. We ordered and our food was brought out to us within ten minutes. Such amazingly fast service! On top of that, the food was absolutely delicious. We both loved it and felt nice and full. It is such a great price for the amount of food you get. We will definitely come here again. We loved everything about it!
Fresh, fast, healthy, and more than anything else flavorful. Good portions, even better service. A fine option when near downtown Provo.
Scrumptious, palatable, and authentic, K’s Kitchen in downtown Provo will fulfill your every last Japanese cuisine dream. From gyoza to donburi, every dish has its own style and deliciousness. No need to travel to Japan. Just go to K’s. They’ll hook it up real nice. To everyone at K’s Kitchen, ありがとうございます!
I loved it. I personally think its the best and most authentic Japanese food I had in Provo. We ordered 4 different combos and loved every one of them. The owner is super nice as well. Highly recommend it.
This place is amazing! I went for the first time recently with a group and was more than surprised. Cheap prices and the best service you could ask for. I will be returning soon.
The food is ridiculously good. Some of the best Japanese food I’ve had in the US. It’s a real gem. Better than the food is the OUTSTANDING customer service. We had a reservation and when we got there the table was set, water cups filled up, and when my children began having a meltdown, the owner came over and gave them toys to play with. One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. I will be back for more and more and more.
The food here is amazing - all four of our partys dishes and appetizers were absolutely delicious. A friend described it as Japanese comfort food. And the service was great. The owner was out working and was incredibly kind and friendly, as was everyone else. Well definitely be back.
This is my new favorite restaurant in Provo! I got the poke bowl which tasted absolutely amazing, and the service was fast and very kind. I cant recommend Ks Kitchen enough!
Food was incredible! I had the katsudon and it was fantastic. According to my siblings who lived in Japan this is the best Japanese food place in the states that they have ever been to. While I may not have their experience, I really loved the food and definitely recommend it to everyone who wants yummy food and a fun experience!
That place is so good and the server are so nice. Can’t wait for the second visit
I LOVE Ks Kitchen. Im Japanese American and stopped going to Japanese restaurants out here when I found that I could cook better than anything I could buy, but at some fervent recommendations I came. Its Japanese-run and all authentic, down to the food service with miso soup and tsukemono (sooo happy). I dream about their gyuudon now, and everything is really reasonably priced. Big portions, quick service. Ive only been once and intend to go for the rest of my Utah life.
The food was amazing (Ive been looking for legit karaage and korokke forever and this place has it)!! The menu has a lot of options, but not too many to overwhelm you (especially if youre a little new to Japanese cuisine). The owner is super nice and even gave me a free side for coming there to celebrate my graduation! Ive also never had so much GREAT Japanese food at such a decent price. I was expecting to pay much more and had waited till my pay day to go in preparation, but it was a wonderful surprise! Definitely coming back :)
The only place in Utah County where you can have an authentic Japanese food experience. The staff is super friendly, the owner (Phil) is a sweet host, and the food is consistently on point.Tonight I had the Sukiyaki. Incredible. If you’re not sure what to get, you can never go wrong with the katsu curry. Incredible. We get it almost every time. Today I was just feeling a little adventurous.
Food was delicious and prompt. My husband lived in Japan for 2 years and he says this is the most authentic Japanese food he has had in the USA. I dont think he could give a higher compliment than that. They had all his favorites here.
Great food! The owner Phil was our server, he is very delightful which added to an enjoyable evening with friends
Japanese home cooking - very different from American Japanese or a sushi place. I was hesitant to try it just based off the pictures of the food, but our friends recommended it and i am so glad we gave it a try! Loved the katsu curry. The pork was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Delicious miso soup and pickled lettuce were included with the entrees.Other reasons this is a 5-star restaurant: very fast service, clean, kid-friendly, and the owner was attentive and kind.
Very clean, amazing food, very responsive service. Only wish the ratio of meat to rice was a bit higher. Not a lot of meat in the meat I got.
Authentic delicious Japanese food!! Amazing service! Food came really fast after placing the order. Highly recommended!
We love K’s Kitchen! The friendliest people you’d ever meet and the best food! Super authentic. My husbands grandma moved from from Japan in her 30’s and he was so excited when we found K’s Kitchen because his grandma and mom make many of the same recipes!
My wife and I took our four kids and it was a success! The kids all loved their food which was a big deal since we have a couple picky eaters. The staff was friendly and the food was awesome! I’m already making plans to come back. We would highly recommend this to anyone. If I could describe it to someone, I’d say it’s authentic Japanese comfort food. Just got home and I’m already missing it.
This restaurant is basically a hidden gem. For appetizers, We ordered the dumplings, edamame, and spring rolls as the snack option and each one was seriously so good. Then the entrees came and they somehow outshined the appetizers. Everything we tried was delicious and the service was superb. Not too expensive either. Seriously, Provo is super fortunate to have this new delicious restaurant on center street now. I would recommend to anyone. Two thumbs up!
Delcious food. And they have the best waiters and service Ive seen anywhere. If I could give ten stars I would.
After dining in dozens of Michelin-starred restaurants, Ks Kitchen ranks high in terms of quality of service and food. Extremely attentive and caring service, with quick sit-down, ordering, food delivery, and check times. Their sukiyaki was amazing and reminded me of the version my papa made me growing up. Ks Kitchens care and quality cant be beat in all of Utah, trust me.
We LOVE K’s Kitchen! Such delicious food and the friendliest staff out there.
Super good food. Wait was about 40 mins but the food was worth the wait!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Im giving this restaurant 6 stars. It honestly deserves a million stars. They have the best Japanese food in the USA. Its pretty much as holy, if not holier, than Chick-Fl-A and thats saying something because that place is holy. Its super clean, cozy, and like I said, the food is to die for!!!!The service is excellent and the Owner is bald and funny.Dont skip over this place!!! It is a must try!!!
Great food! My only complaint was no specialty Japanese drinks (ramune, melon soda, etc)
I went to Ks for the first time yesterday strictly because we wanted something new and they had the best ratings. I absolutely loved the food, supper fresh, lots of spices and flavoring. I will definitely be going back again. We had great service and the manager made sure we were taken care of.
Whenever I miss some of the simple and tasty flavors of Japan I always drop by.
We went to Ks on recommendation of a friend and WOW I was not disappointed. Clean, neat environment, and a home cooked feel. The food lived up the all of the hype and everything was delicious. I had the Katsu Curry and a side of Karaage and recommend it to anyone. If youre looking for some great Japanese food you will he happy you stopped by.
Every single time Ive gone here, its been amazing. The food is authentic, the owner personally waits on you, and they do everything in their power to make sure that you are happy. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a great meal for a great price
This place is delicious! Try the koroke and Katsura don you’ll love it
Classy, good atmosphere and GREAT food. Just a little expensive because it only comes with meat and rice and a small soup, but definitely a great choice for a tasty meal
Really awesome Donburi. The Katsudon is some of the best Ive ever had and you need to try the Miso soup!
Amazing service, delicious food. They ran out of Katsu Chicken and felt so bad that they comped our Gyoza. Definite focus on service and high quality fresh food. The owners recently moved from Tokyo after living there for 35 years.Menu contains mostly dishes favoring meat. We enjoyed the salted pork as well as the (off-menu) vegetable bowl.
Anyone who has lived in Japan will appreciate the athentic and simple dishes served here. There is no where else in Utah County that I am aware of that can serve a good quality katsudon like these guys can. Beautiful restaurant and friendly husband and wife duo that are running the show. The price is on point and very affordable.
K’s kitchen is awesome! The nicest people and amazing food! Super flavorful, and at a great price. Very lucky to have this place in Provo.
Delicious food! My wife and I both loved it. Prices arent bad, service was pretty good, and the wait to get in was only around 15-20 minutes.
Hello my new favorite Japanese place. Its been a long while since I ate Japanese food made by someone from Japan. Loved it. I had the katsu curry. It was fantastic, they use a good curry. My wife had the katsu donburi she really liked hers too. The gyoza was wonderful also. Looking forward to eating here many more times.
Very very good Japanese Donburi. But I was super excited about the potato salad and croquettes. We ate so much of these in Japan and these were just as good.
My experience at K’s Kitchen was the happiest I have ever been. The service? immaculate. The atmosphere? immaculate. The food? immaculate. This is my favorite place to eat, highly recommend.
I absolutely love this place. I eat here at least twice a week for lunch. The Katsu Curry is unbelievable. The spring rolls are delightful. Phil the owner and his wife are amazing they treat us like royalty every time we come in. This would be my number one restaurant in Provo.
This is the most authentic Japanese food in the valley. My absolute favorite. If you like any kind of rice bowl, this is the place. I love that the price you see is exactly what you pay - taxes are included. It truly sounds and feels like a similar shop in Japan!
Arrived at dinner hour, place was busy yet we were promptly greeted and seated. Tables are spaced for covid protocol. Food was served quickly and was delicious. I had a custom bowl of Teriyaki chicken and vegetables. My partner had Katsudon. Someone earlier recommended the Karaage and it was amazing. Definitely worth the drive from SLC.
The store owner was our waiter. He is such a nice guy and super friendly. This place was delicious and the employees/owner are awesome. Will be back.
Love this place! Brought some friends with us this time around and was still impressed! Best and most authentic karaage in Utah. Super friendly staff who will speak Japanese to you if you like haha! Ive gotten the katsudon and oyakodon and both have been delicious. The atmospere is inviting and the decor is like a chic minimalistic style.
The food was good. The service was ok
If you want to know what Japanese comfort food tastes like, eat at K’s. I just order a bunch of their sides with a bowl of rice. Karaage, korroke, harumaki are our favorite sides.
Incredible service and even better Katsu Curry. I will be coming back frequently!
