How the Nackard Bottling Company Drove Me to Coca-ColaMy campground was purchased by me in 2004, the store had already been a customer of Pepsi Cola Prescott from previous owners possibly as far back as 1971. It is a small operation which had one, now 30 year old outside vending machine, and a True single door cooler. Located in a prime location on either side of the back door entrance to the store. My “account manager” before the troubles started was Lynn, she would call on me every two weeks like clockwork and if she could not make it she would call me on the cell and see if there was anything we needed. She was great!Five years ago, Lynn was transferred and the store was handed off to Paula Walters. She forgets, but we met a few times in the beginning and then she stopped coming because we may have been inconvenient or rather too small to be bothered with. So think about it, 5 years, 1825 days, or 130 missed sales calls, we were now an orphan account. This was verified when it was revealed that all our records of previous sales were purged from Prescott Beverage, we found this out in March of 2017. So, for those orphaned times we made a transitions, we went to Frys, Costco, Safeway and Walmart for product. What are you going to do?When the machinery would break down we would call service and they would respond. We would refer to the repair man as “Charlie Rich” because of his silver hair and we are Charlie Rich fans. But he retired and repairs started going south. My cooler logs show that the cooler at 9 AM every morning could either be 32 degrees or 55 degrees without anyone opening the door (The county health inspector was not happy about this). Calls to repair became archaic, they either went to voice mail or when you did get a human. Two times the service techs came out to fix the unit, one was not trained on the unit and the other was lacking the proper tools to fix the unit. Still today it bounces between 32 and 55 degrees. The only explanation given was from non-repair people, salesmen, and that was “thats the way it is, totally normal.”This past March or April we met our “Account Manager” Paula Walters who walked into the store while I was on the phone with a customer, taking a reservation, with four customers and staff around the counter. She never introduced herself, she just walked to the back of the store came forward and started being irate in an elevated voice in front of my customers, highly unprofessional, so I gave it right back to her in spades in an authoritative voice. How dare you come into my place of business and verbally assault me, pointing fingers, in front of witnesses and not to expect repercussions. The customers were amazed that this was a representative from Pepsi-Cola. This action got a e-mail to Pepsi Corporate, which got me a meeting between myself, her, her two bosses. This was not a scheduled meeting, they cold called me. Promised were made that all my issues would be resolved. This never happened. The vending machine began giving us problems in September, a call to repair once a week, a tech came out without anyone knowing and changed the problem from taking money and not giving a soda, to taking money and only giving Diet-Pepsi. Which started another series of calls, one a week. A son of a friend, who works for Pepsi in Phoenix, relayed that there are only 3 technicians in the Phoenix market currently.Paula has made visits to us three times in the last 6 weeks and cant understand why we cant order product, because the vending machine is down. All we get from her is “but you havent ordered in five years?” What part of “It is your fault” does she not understand. So I am having both the cooler and vending machine pulled as of Tuesday January 23rd. A vintage Coke vending machine is stocked and sitting operational in the campground laundry room. We even have a vendor who will repair it if needed.
