I cant believe this place still exists the way it does. Its like walking back into Tower Records in 1995. Great selection of vinyl and other media. Knowledgeable, friendly staff and completely charming, privately-owned vibe with a great sense of humor. Love this place!

Legit record store experience. Great selection of records and even cds. The $5 bin had some great titles. Neat head shop space and cool weird stuff. Only things missing were more band merch like t shirts, stickers,, etc.. and a listening station would be cool. Must visit if youre in the Poughkeepsie/Newburgh/Beacon area.

A throwback to old school record stores and thats a good thing. Classical section is a bit thin but they have almost every kind of music. The store is huge when considering the small shops you find in small, suburban or rural areas. The staff are exceptional and helped me find exactly what I was looking for. I will return more often as I didnt spend nearly enough time there. They participate in Record Store Day drops and it was nice to find what I wanted.

A lot more new records then used ones I saw unless they have used in the back some where or you have to ask 🤷🏻‍♀️. Also they all seem kind of expensive for an outdated medium of new presses that are now digitized music and not actually analog pressings. But Id come back here to get things if there werent used sales going on or I knew they had something used I wanted or I know they have record accessories I need Ill buy here instead of Amazon.

This store might make you wish you lived in Poughkeepsie. Oh but the thought of having to spell Poughkeepsie all the time, maybe not. Truly one of the best record stores in New York State. Well done guys!

Recently received a record player as a gift so I love coming to Dark-side to build my collection of vinyls! They have a large selection in store and are also very helpful in ordering or finding what your looking for if not in store.

As good as any record shop you will ever find. Very good selection of virtually every genre. I wish they had more Japanese pop music and downtempo, but I always wish these things about every record store. The staff is great. You can buy vintage JBL speakers, some Metallica cassette tapes, and a bong all at the same place- whats not to love?!

Awesome store. Great vinyl selection and also a really great CD collection. They also sell other media like cassettes, VHS, DVDs, and even video games. Great staff and overall really cool store. The only downside is I always spend too much money every time I go here

Amazing place, nice people and awesome selection of records.

Ill come back when I have time to look but my visit this time was pleasant, easy and successful. The young lady (with the blue hair 🙂) was able to answer all of my questions, help me figure out a gift, without making me feel clueless.I had called the day before to check Christmas Eve hours and the same young lady had offered to do some research before I arrived so I could figure out what to buy my son. She did her homework, had a few suggestions and I ended up with something I think is perfect.They appear to have a huge selection. The atmosphere is professional without being uppity. The humorous signs on the door are awesome! I think they have a new life long pair of customers. (PS: Parking and entrance are in the back!)

I really really love the vibe of this place. The staff is always friendly. Im a vinyl novice but they are always ready to help. Their movie wall is the closest you can to get to a video rental store without a time machine. Made two special orders easily. Will definitely be back again soon

Bit of Hollywood im Poughkeepsie.

I cant visit regularly anymore, but anytime I can afford the 250 mile drive I make it a priority to come here. Im one of those hopeless mutants that loves physical media and this store is a haven for similarly minded people. They have a WIDE selection of CDs to choose from and used CDs are rarely more than $5. As such, I rarely walked out after spending less than $20. They also have selections of movies, novelties, and music in other classic formats. They have rewards program that gives me discounts regularly enough to mention. They even helped me by ordering obscure albums that have to be imported from Finland. The staff have personality and know their stuff, having introduced me to new bands Id never heard of (State Champs) but now seek out after other similar groups disbanded (Yellowcard). Long story short, Id love coming to this place just to browse but dont think I ever left empty handed. I just wish there was one near my new home.

When you go to Darkside Records the staff is always helpful and very pleasant to talk to! They definitely love music, have the knowledge of the products in the store and their suggestions are always helpful when you have a question. If they dont have a product that you want, they do their best to try and help you find something similar or better! I definitely reccomend going to Darkside for vinyl, CDs, vintage shirts among other great products sold there!

Average prices, and quality stuff. They have a BIG selection of records, DVDs for sale, novelty items, pop figures, and just a bunch of cool stuff. Its definitely worth checking out. Theres even a cool gimmick where you get a mystery bag of 7 albums for $3. The staff is really chill too, very helpful.

They have a great array of records and now they have a selection of not only 331/3 LPs but they also have 45s now. They also have equipment such as turntables, stereos and VHS players. I like to buy the used DVDs and Blu-rays.

It was amazing. They have everything you need in that store vinyls, cds, dvds, and vhs movies. I really wish they are hiring right now, but they are not hired at the moment.

Big open store, used and new vinyl, focus seems to be rock but youll find all the genres you would expect at a store of this size. My favorite parts of Darkside are the many events they hold like in-store performances and flea markets, as well as the kind and funny staff who have built a community around his store. There is also a great gift section where youll find nice candles and funny greeting cards!

Place is fire, always have the records, always have great service, always a sweet vibe and most of all always so gold.

Wow, I was totally blown away. Some reviews said this place was pricey but most of the records I got were $5 and a couple were $20. The selection had lots of new and used. They even have 8-tracks! The staff was great. They looked up a ton of things for me super fast and knew exactly where to find them. I got a rewards card with some great discounts associated. I will definitely be back often, totally worth the 1+ hour drive. Next time Ill be sure to look at more than just vinyl hahahahaha

The local community is lucky to have a place (& people) like Darkside Records. Large space & selection (with new, re-issiue & used) to peruse. Staff is helpful & knowledgeable. In store concerts & flea markets.

Really nice record store with lots of vintage records 33s and 45s for sale. Also CDs, DVDs, movies and TV shows, books etc. Lots of cool stuff. Really nice staff too. They buy and sell all types of music from different genres. Love being able to flip through rows of neatly displayed albums. They also sell audio equipment, turn tables, amps and speakers.

Great selection of cds. Im not into vinyl anymore, but the floor space in the store is about 80% vinyl. The staff, however, leaves a bit to be desired. They are a bunch of too cool for school 20 somethings who seem less than interested in ringing me out when I bring my purchases to the counter.

Good selection of vinyl, and classic record store vibe (except the employees dont think theyre cooler than you, which was always the case in good record stores pre-1990). They usually have some good turntables and other used (vintage) stereo components.

A great throwback to the record stores of old. They have the latest releases in all formats and a huge selection of both new and used classics in CD, vinyl and cassette (thats an audio tape). The staff is also helpful and friendly. Buying or just browsing, either way its a good time.

They were having a special event and the parking was a nightmare. There was no clearly marked entrance nor exit lane, so once an idiot decided to park in the only drivable lane, everyone was stuck with no definable exit. There were no staff to direct people. In the end after some careful maneuvering, we were able to get out by driving up the lane made for pedestrians and then going out another businesss driveway. Truly maddening...!!! I managed to muster 3 stars (reluctantly) because of the great live music and the great CD selection in the store.
