Came in to spend upwards of $1000 on a Thule roof and SUP rack. Waited 20 minutes for someone to help me. Finally someone comes over, but then pushes me out of the small and cramped area with the roof racks to help someone else and offered no help; I would have expected “I see you’ve been waiting, I will help you in a moment” or anything like that. Doesn’t seem to have many options anyway. Went to Kittery Trading Post and they had way more options, found and bought exactly what I needed, and customer service was super fast and helpful. Will never come here again. Would not recommend.

We worked with two sales associates (Angela and Shawn) who provided excellent attention and advice. Add to that the sale prices on several items and coupons and it adds up to an outstanding experience.

We needed lightweight rain gear and micro spikes. The rain gear was on clearance so added bonus. The staff was friendly but was not confident answering our questions about weather the pants we were looking at were waterproof. Some tags called it out some did not. They have a great selection of products at the Portsmouth location.

Decent selection of outdoor gear and clothing. But it is relatively small and missing some popular highend brands such as Arctyrex, OR, Zamberlan, etc.

This store is an impressive store for all things outdoors. While I was only here for climbing shoes we walked past lots of gear for other outdoor activities and sports as well. In climbing gear alone they had an impressive selection of gear and equipment, as well as chalk and other necessities. Upon arrival to our climbing area we were greeted by an employee asking if we could use any help with our search in shoes. Soon after we got shoe suggestions from the first guy we were introduced to an employee who was a climber himself and he proceeded to help pick the right shoes and let me test them out on their climbing wall. First time in the store and I got 10/10 customer service and a good price!

The merchandise is here, the quality is here, prices are reasonable, all except the young yuppie kids that work here, arrogant,an closed minded young men,it appears they came from a shelter life where the working class was not a part of.everyone in the store that worked there looks down on anyone or just me for physical labor an looking as if I work for a living.i did find a good quality pair of boots that I used to hike the Appalachian trail in part with,an some mosquito wipes that worked great on the trail.i still use the boots daily an love the fit an quality.but even though this place has great gear I will shop elsewhere, don’t need to feel as staff is waiting for me to steal when I am spending my money with this place.

Came in last week to look at backpacking packs. A guy named Bob helped me out! Told him I was just researching so he took me around the shop and taught me about the different types of gear that I would need in the future for backpacking. HUGE HELP! I was very grateful! Thank you Bob! Going in tomorrow to buy a pack:))

Sad to say that product was misleadingly labeld, and that the associates made no attempt at making the situation better. I worked at a sporting goods store for a while. I know how these stores operate to some degree. Came in looking for a pair of shorts in the 30-40$ range. Found a few pairs clearly marked SALE saying reg 35$ sale 31.99$...tried on a pair, liked them and walked up to the register. Had $40 cash on me figured that would be fine....wrong. The associate rang me up for 45.99$. I explained that I thought they were cheaper, pointing to the rack 3ft from the register with the big sign saying 35, now 31.99$. Was told that was for members only. I argued saying that the sign didn’t say anything about that! We both stared at the sign and the employee told me there was nothing he could do. The customer behind me took my side...but still EMS would not resolve the issue. Frustrated, confused, and embarrassed I put my cash back in my wallet...didn’t have enough to make up the difference, and walked out of the store. Pretty bummed about the experience....I really liked the shorts...but I won’t be shopping here in the future...

Great prices. Very cluttered and no defined difference between mens and wens clothes. They may have been reorganizing, but I could not walk between the racks. Also no one was ready to help, they were to busy tasking. I found the boots 8bwanted but could not find the mens jackets I was looking for. Left with out purchasing anything.

Pushy sales clerks. I dont want to give you my phone number. I dont want to give you my email address to make a quick simple purchase. Didnt give me the online sale price. I had to tell the sales clerk it was on sale on the website, and she had to check it. Why wouldnt the sale price come up in the local store? Deceptive business practices.

We went to the store on Monday to buy a kayak. We were greeted by Alan and directed to the kayak section at the back of the store. The kayak was for my wife, who just recently soloed, and she wasnt sure what she wanted. Alan took the time to ask insightful questions and then take down 2 kayaks for my wife to sit in. The kayak was $759 and Alan suggested we rent a similar kayak for a day to make sure this met our needs. We indicated that we would probably buy their red kayak. On Wednesday we rented a similar kayak and it fit our needs. When we returned it that afternoon, the red kayak had been sold. Alan was not working that day and the store manager worked with us to identify that the kayak we wanted was in stock at a nearby store. We explained that we had intended to buy the kayak that Wednesday because we had quests coming that weekend. Our understanding was that this store would arrange to have the kayak on Friday for us to purchase. We called Friday afternoon before heading to EMS (we thought theyd have called us) to find that no arrangements had been made. Alan was working this day and remembered the conversation from the beginning of the week and understood our disappointment. He took our phone number and said hed call us back shortly.Alan called back to say that he had arranged to have the kayak brought to his store for the next morning (he actually met the courier halfway and brought the kayak back that evening after he got off work). We went to the store on Saturday to find the kayak by the door, waiting for us. At this time Alan helped us find other equipment. We were totally blown away by the service given and time taken to help make sure our needs were met and that we were knowledgeable with our purchase. We will shop at this location in the future.

This store has horrible customer service and I will never spend my money here again. The website messed up twice placing an order. Went through the third time. The I got charged three times for one order. Customer service wouldnt do anything, said I should call my bank. In the store your lucky to get helped if you need it. Limited availability on decent products.

I went in with my wife the other week to look for a couple of warm jackets for the upcoming winter. When I walked through the door I felt immediately welcomed as an associate (I think his name was Andy) greeted me and asked if I needed any assistance. I said we would just browse for now and he kindly said to find him if we had any questions...Well, long story short, my wife and I arent very hip with all the new outerwear these days, so we sought out Andys assistance soon after. He was extremely knowledgeable regarding all of the new outerwear and taught us about gore-tex, windstopper etc. A few other associates even came over to offer their opinions as well! The product knowledge the employees have at this store is remarkable! During checkout, Andy explained to us the benefits of their rewards program and signed us up...I just received my first 10 dollar reward for the jackets we bought! I cannot say enough good things about this store and its extremely friendly, personable, and knowledgeable staff! I will certainly be back towards Christmas to do some shopping at the best store in Portsmouth!!!!

My experience was quite opposite to the other reviewers. I was asked if I wanted help right at the front door, and as I explored the hiking boot selection I was approached multiple times by employees offering assistance and advice. They took their time with me, and I left the store confident about what I had bought.

Went shopping for a new mountain bike and the hipster mechanic told me that in his 10 years of being a mechanic, hed never heard of 27.5 plus bikes. Ironically, he had just built one, a Marin, that was right next to him leaning on the mechanics bench! Not particularly knowledgeable about there own products...
