Visited The Hobby Smith about 3 weeks ago with my son who Id just driven cross country with, to move him to Portland. Fantastic model train hobby shop! Lots of tools, supplies, etc... Something thats greatly missed in a lot of model train hobby shops you go to today. My son will greatly enjoy having this shop close by!

Great store. Ron is a very helpful fellow train enthusiast. If I lived in the area, I would spend more money there. Sadly, I can only visit the store when I visit my niece.

Really cute little niche store. Wide variety of trains, terrain, tools, and projects. Dirty secret: some really nice pre made buildings and other small model minutiae that are utterly PERFECT for 12mm-32mm wargaming like Malifaux, or ww1 or 2 war games.

I discovered the Hobby Smith a few years ago after some frustrating experiences with other hobby stores in the area. They have everything you need and if they don’t they will order it for you without losing track of your order 🙄. I decided to try out a small z scale train for Christmas and Ron got me hooked up with a local club. You could say I am now a z scale convert and consider the Hobby Smith the only place in town to gear up.Also if you want to get a little train modeling inspiration they have an n scale club layout in the basement!

I love this place! The owner, Ron Maize, is a great guy and he hires great people to help him. Large stock of HO and N, even some O and Z scale materials. The book section has a nice collection of new and used books - he buys collections and will sell on consignment.

Great place for electric trains and electric train accessories, all gauges supported. Friendly and knowledgeable staff on hand to help, or just talk shop. Wide selection of inventory with the ability to order almost anything.

This has been the most helpful model train store I have found in Portland. They have special ordered things for me. They have called me to ask if I wanted a product that they were taking orders on. And they get all the micro trains subscription cars for me monthly.I highly recommend this shop.

This game place is great. Basically the only shop in the area with any selection of Z scale and very knowledgeable and helpful staff

This train and model railroad hobby shop is well organized, well lit, and stocked adequate inventory to be interesting to a first time visitor. I would want to visit again if I returned to Portland.
