This was my first whiskey tasting and it was phenomenal, not only did Bull Run help me celebrate my second anniversary in style, they showed the true friendly atmosphere you so desire in these times, if you truly want to experience a friendly environment without any pressures of life outside their doors then Bull Run is your next stop, THANK YOU BULL RUN FOR MY BEST ANNIVERSARY YET!
What a great selection of locally-made whiskeys! They also make aquavit, Arak, Rye and a lot of other spirits. The tasting room is a bit tucked away, but it is absolutely worth seeking out. The room is cozy and the staff is exceptionally knowledgeable about the spirits they sell. They were very generous with their time and knowledge.Right now, they cant have more than a few people in at a time and you should be wearing a mask when youre not tasting. Im okay with that. This was a really great experience and it will be after the pandemic is over, too.
Small but quaint. Very friendly staff. I would go back again.
Thank you so much!
Justin was a gracious, personable and fabulous host when we popped in the other day. He was so informed and was very passionate about the work they do with whiskey. The choices of Vodka, Bourbon and single malts were wonderful. Great stuff theyre doing in Portland. Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the area. We were simply walking around 23rd, had some ice cream at Salt+Straw and found this wonderful place.
We had a great experience last summer when we visited Bull Run. Located in the constantly evolving Northwest District, Bull Run fits in perfectly with the other amazing businesses that have moved to the neighborhood. The tasting room is just the right size. It isnt so small as to be cramped but isnt so big that it loses some intimacy. The tasting room host was friendly and helpful. And then there was the main reason we visited: the beverages. All of the choices were very good. Especially great is the Portland Dry Gin. I had never had gin before so trying theirs was quite a revelation. I have rarely tasted something so good. I loved it. It was so good I had no choice but to purchase a bottle. I brought it to a friends house and a few of us drank it in one night. Fortunately, there is one liquor store in Brooklyn that carries it. I made sure to go there to pick up a bottle. I just checked our cabinet...it is still there but is almost gone. Ill have to buy another one soon. I am mostly a beer and bourbon guy but the Portland Dry Gin is amazing enough to convert me.
After having Jennifer at Bull Run Distillery give me some tastings and cocktail ideas, I contracted her to create drinks for an event. She did an excellent job! The cocktail drinks were delicious and she pre-made alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions which were all a hit at the party. I highly recommend Bull Run Distillerys products and creativity for making your event a success!
Lovely tasting room and staff! Very patient in giving us details of each bottle. Their vodka is soooooo smooth, its thick but smooth. The barreled vodka is a decent surprise. Their whisky is super nice, I can definitely tasted the vanilla and cherry. We ended up getting a bottle of the all times favorite, Straight Bourbon Whisky. Love it!
Beautiful tasting room, great tour, and even better whiskey. They have a fun line of products and the tastings are very reasonably priced. Its a tiny tasting room and no seating so dont expect to spend your whole evening there - just taste, buy, and head out.
Good whiskey and vodka, but the lady who helped us with the tasting seemed like she was way too cool for us. She poured us our booze, rushed through her spiel, smiled condescendingly, and generally seemed like she wished we weren’t there. I’d rather spend my money somewhere else.
Was my friends 50th birthday, took a 45 minute limo drive to get there and what a disappointment! There was 12 of us total and the woman behind the counter was very rude, wasn’t another customer in the place and she had an attitude, said any party’s of 8 or higher needed to make reservations. No customers behind us either. When we were picking what our tasters she said it really doesn’t matter what you pick because you only get a drop anyway. Wow! We planned on buying a couple drinks each but after 5 minutes with her not one of us wanted to stay. If I was owner of this place I would replace her with an employee who cares instead of her with an attitude and look on her face that says” I wish I was anywhere but here!” Missed out on $200 in an hour and probably $40 in tips. Will never go here again and would not recommend. I really like there whiskey and vodka but will never purchase again. Thanks for nothing!
Stopped here for a tasting, and found they had a good selection to sample. All were good to very good for the price. However, like many of the craft spirit places in PDX which call themselves a Distillery, they dont actually distill anything. They purchase bulk spirit from large industrial distilleries (Primarily MGP in Indiana) and further barrel age it or just bottle it as their own product.
Excellent whiskey. Highly recommend!
All I can say is WOW! Just wow! (Ok, I’ll actually say more...you’re welcome.) I was never really a whiskey kind of girl, until I met Bull Run. From the moment you walk in the door of the tasting room, there is absolutely no doubt that this will be an experience you’ll never forget. The immediate smell of their amazing product welcomes you as you step over the threshold, and the cool vibe lets you know you’re in for a treat!! The staff at the tasting room is so very nice, welcoming, patient, and educated on their product! They make Whiskey 101 easy...even for the less informed! Their whiskey is the star of the show...especially since they have SO MANY options, and everyone is better than the last...but here’s the thing...the silent star is their Medoyeff Vodka. This vodka is the kind of vodka you can just sit on your porch and sip while the sun sets (or rises...it’s up to you, I’m not gonna judge). It’s a top-shelf quality vodka with a bottom shelf, friendly price! I look for them everywhere I go, either their vodka, Starka, whiskey, bourbon, or rye...as long as you’re ordering Bull Run, you can’t go wrong!!! Make no mistake, this place is a tasting room, so if you’re planning to get wasted...it’s not going to happen here, which is so nice (it’s not super fun to wade through a group of wasted people to try to learn about this product)!! It’s a great thing to get a good idea of what their product is, so you know for a fact that you are buying an extremely amazing, quality product! I recommend that you, and all of your visitors (be sure to make reservations if your group is big...it’s a small space, and they like to give their visitors undivided attention), visit their tasting room! It’s an experience you won’t forget, and your tastebuds will thank you for!!
The spirits were all top quality, though the attitude was surprisingly a bit snotty. I politely inquired about the origin of the Bourbon, because I apparently had some confusion about it being a regional term like Champagne or Tequila - and apparently it touched a nerve. Oh well. Still some good swillin
Informative, Fun, and Tasty!Be sure to arrange for a tour.Lee gave us a very good tour and covered a lot of things that we didnt know about distilling. He really knows his stuff.Jennifer then led us to the tasting room where we sampled a lot more spirits than we expected. Several were good and several more were exceptional - so we had to take some home!Be sure to ask her for the Pinor Noir cocktail recipie.
The tasters were very good and the hostess was very friendly and knowledgeable
Schedule an event or tour with them! Great people and product!
We stopped by for a tasting; it was an ok experience, but no seats and pretty rushed. The spirits were average for their price.
Great local distillery
They lied to me! I purchased this after they told me it was distilled here in Oregon. I get home and discover that it is actually distilled in Tennessee in a giant factory!
