I love this place! The quality of the herbs and spices is top notch. The blends are fantastic. JP is such a nice guy, super knowledgeable and always happy to help. It is really sad what all the BS has done to these downtown businesses! I was there today and his nice window was boarded up courtesy of a thrown brick. Ridiculous! I hope downtown survives. Come here and blow your flavor fuse!

I havent tried all of my teas yet but the toasted biscotti is delicious and soothing. A treasure of a shop, a sensory delight. How could anything critical be written about a place that has carefully selected teas, a variety of herbs and spice mixes that cover an entire wall, and individual herbs and spices available by the ounce? Very helpful and genuine people who work there. Conveniently located two blocks from the Pioneer Square MAX stop, and they also take online orders. The Iron Goddess of Mercy tea from there is amazing.

If you think there can be too much of a good thing, then this place is not for you!Seriously, the assortment here is bonkers, and I love it!The staff is always friendly and ready to not just assist, but to make recommendations to help ease the overwhelmed shopper. I love that they put together seasoning kits that you can pick up and it’s everything you need for a recipe besides the actual groceries. It allows me to try new things without having to buy a supply of spices before I know whether I want to permanently add a recipe to my rotation. My advice? Don’t go in hungry!

The proprietor, JP, greeted us as we walked in and gave us the most amazing experience exploring teas, sugars, spices, rubs, and more. It was a celestial olfactory experience. Shopping online for teas, etc., is like watching a video of Disneyland instead of attending in person. Highly recommended. Highly.

Do you need rare or hard to find spices? How about flavored sugars and salt? Or delicious teas? This place does them all, and does it all well. They have some things you just cant get elsewhere, and the staff is all super friendly and helpful. Recently they opened a tea bar, serving any tea they have either hot or iced, which can be complemented with any of their flavored sugar. And if you dont know what spices you need, they have a wide variety of spice blends that work perfectly for any recipe you need.

We recently strolled into this charming little shop wandering around downtown Portland while visiting from out of state. The owner was very helpful and informative. We walked out with a sample of teas, plus a beautiful teapot, two small infusers for individual cups of tea (one an adorable little ducky), and a larger infuser. I could hardly wait until we got home to sample the teas and my new toys. We also picked up some delicious spice mixes. The store has quite a wide variety of teas, spices, and spice mixes to choose from.

Lovely little spice and tea room in downtown. Place is full of great smelling teas, spice mixtures, salts and a few select spices (you can smell/try 4 different kinds of cinnamon!). Items are sold in 1oz packages for a little sampler, or in larger quantities out of the jars with loose spices/teas in them. The gentleman running the shop was a delight to talk with and super helpful without being pushy. My only request would be for them to carry more spices and less spice blends. While some of them smelled quite good, it would be fun to have more options in the high-end spice world.Definitely worth stopping by!

This store seems to be more of a gift shop than a spice store. They have a good selection of spices and teas, but the prices are high and unless you need to bundle your purchase with other spice equipment such as grinders, pestle and morter, or salt blocks, going to any of the near by grocery stores will have a similar selection at a much better price. I enjoy stores like this, but I just cant see the benefit of shopping here unless Im in dire need of a gift for a foodie. Also, it closes relatively early, so dont expect to seeing by at the last minute for a forgotten spice for a dish.

Upfront, I will say this review is based predominantly on one negative customer service experience. I always take these types of review with a grain of salt... maybe this was just a fluke, but its one that will prevent me from returning to this shop.I work a few doors down from the Spice & Tea Exchange and have always been interested to stop in. When looking for a specific product (a tea infuser/tumbler), I knew that a nearby chain store had a great selection but I try to always give my dollar to local businesses.Explaining to the man working what I was looking for, he suggested an infuser that is placed on top of a tea cup (rather than the tumbler concept I preferred). I mentioned, again, that Id prefer a tumbler and said Im looking for something that would would keep a tight seal if I wanted to shake it.His reaction was a very rude and ... disgusted?... You wouldnt shake tea! Why would you shake tea? Whoa, buddy... Thats a great way to keep business. Maybe shaking tea is some huge faux pas, but let me decide what I want to do with my tea. Chill out. Im all for constructive criticism and giving me useful information, but his delivery was downright rude. I thanked him for his time and walked out, which seemed to frustrate him even more.Maybe he was simply having a bad day. It happens. But I also work in customer service... and try to be friendly to people regardless of the kind of day I might have had.One positive note: the tea and spice selection in this store looks stellar. If youre looking for selection and not personality, this would be a great place to go.
