I called and the man I spoke to was very condescending when HE didnt understand the problem. In his 27 years he had never heard of what I was describing. Funny, the young man at Parkrose hardware, that refered me to winks, understood the problem and explained it to me as if I was a homeowner of 20 years who did her own repairs.

The staff was not friendly (especially the front cashiers), the hardware was expensive & it was not what i needed after i explained exactly what i needed, he was also not very friendly and seemed to be put out by my request). i worked it out once i got home but was not impressed with this place. ill probably go back because i like to think that people are just having a bad day sometimes, it looks like an interesting place & i like to support small local biz. i hope that i dont need to ask for help though. but part of the reason that businesses like this go down is poor customer service.

Hands down the best hardware store in Portland and possibly even the whole country. Ive never left there without the exact thing I needed.The customer service counter is amazing. You can tell them you need to attach a live rat to a hockey stick and theyll excitedly bring you through their massive hardware section to find the right part. You can go in with an idea for a project and theyll actually help you figure out how to build it, free of charge. Theyll even recommend stuff they dont have and where to get it if they think its the right thing for the job.They only carry high quality goods including some tools and hardware you would otherwise need to research and order online. If youre used to going to big box chain stores you will be blown away by the selection at winks. Theres really no comparison, you just have to go.

Spend nearly as much time in winks as I do at home and work. Very friendly, helpful staff. Sometimes gets kind of busy and may seem to take forever. Rest assured its mainly because they take the time to make sure everyones needs are met.

They explore ideas with you and have endless recommendations if they can’t solve a problem. They have an unreal collection of unique high quality parts while having many different levels of affordable options. Awesome place.

The girls working the cash register were so rude. Never seen that kind of attitude before. Don’t go here if you have any self respect. I asked to talk to a manager after she refused to help me find a light fixture and she responded “I AM the manager.” I asked for the owner and she refused to let me talk to him. I walked away completely baffled. I went to Home Depot instead. Just wanted to shop local but these girls don’t want to do anything. They literally laughed and insulted me for asking where the electrical aisle was.

I’ve been a customer at Winks for 15 years for three different house remodels. This summer I purchased a bunch of windows and was told I needed to buy my own hardware. So, I headed straight to Winks and plopped down about $600 for a large order. Fast forward two months and the windows were delayed. When they finally came in, the hardware was already on them. I was frustrated as I was way past the return period at Winks and had already disposed of the receipt, but I was hoping that since everything I’d ordered was a common product, nothing was opened, and it was all still in the Winks brown bag with the dollar amount and date of sale indicated, they’d be willing to at least accept a return for store credit. Alas, no dice. If you don’t have their paper receipt, no returns or exchanges. I suppose this was an issue on my end but I really hoped that after 15 years and thousands of dollars of business with a local company they’d be willing to work with a customer on an issue that was at least somewhat out of their control. I explained all of this to them but they were not even willing to discuss it. Guess I’ll do my hardware shopping at Rejuvenation from here on. Bye Winks.

It was my 1st time shopping at Winks, the experience was great. Theyre very friendly and knowledgeable on just about everything and theyre more than likely to have what Home Depot and Lowes does not ! So the hard to find items will be on the shelves at Winks Hardware.

As a non-contractor, this is a great spot for finding unique solutions to home and creative projects, also just fun to look around at the broad array of items in a wide range of sizes. Their staff is always friendly and willing to engage with kids to answer questions about what things are or can be used for. After a kind staff member spent time answering my questions, he moved on to the next customer and immediately switched to Spanish to help him out. Amazing, inclusive service! Thanks Winks!

I have handles that I purchased from Winks stock. Even though they are still in the packaging, they will not let me return them without a receipt. Beware these unfriendly customer service policies.

Awesome Store! I recommend over Lowes and Home Depot any day!! If they dont have it in the isle, it will be in the back behind the counter.After arriving but dont see what you need, you take a ticket, are called to the counter and an extremely knowledgable associate will listen and find everything youre looking for. They will take you in the back (which is large and very organized) and find what you need if its not in the front of the store.

The Get a number, system gets you personalized, skilled, attentive, and real, deeply qualified, help with your project. You will frequently have to wait up to 5+ minutes, maybe more. Be patient. Your patience will be rewarded with personalized service.I am a 25 year + veteran of being a carpenter, maker, fixer, solver of many things, from simple to complex. The people at this store seem to thrive on the depths of your project, as if theyre in your shop, or on the ladder with you. I look forward to reasons to go to this store.

Love this place. After looking everywhere else, we found the hard to find hardware for our remodeled kitchen to match the existing hardware. They have all sorts of things you cannot find elsewhere.

I have found unique home parts here that I could not find anywhere else. A quaint, customer friendly store that is like a step back in time. Employees are extremely knowledgeable and they have catacombs of rare parts for home repair.

This is the only place I go for fasteners anymore. The staff is wonderful, the collection is extensive, and the quality is solid. They also do not hesitate to give recommendations of where to go for what they dont have, and that is incredibly helpful.

They have a lot of hardware and such. Nice people working there. I would go there again even though they didnt have what I wanted, but then again no other store had the specialty item I was looking for

Probably the best all around hardware store in town. A huge selection of fasteners, oddities like springs and other stuff you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else.

The staff here were all so helpful. I forgot my bike lock and they lent me one! Just shows a level of being personable that you dont get a lot.As for their stock - they have some really unique fixtures and the bigger piece being that, they help you find what you need and ask about your project to see if they can suggest a better option.Never going to Home D again - Thanks!

HomeDepot told me to buy a different drain kit. WC Winks sold me a tiny fastener so I wouldnt have to replace something that worked. Very happy to have found this place!

Whenever you cant find a tool or fastener or some other hardware the clerk will say You can try Winks. It will probably be there in a store which seems to be about 40% larger on the inside than the outside.This kind of comprehensive inventory isnt cheap. Prices are a touch on the high side. The buying experience is a bit odd for the 21st century. A clerk totals your purchases and you take a ticket to the register. Its also unusual in that the store keeps strict bankers hours 9-5 Monday-Friday. Thats all minor. If you need it they have it or can get it.

The whole neighborhood is turning into a tourist trap and these folks were already pushed out of formerly industrial NW (now known as The Pearl). If they leave the central east side there is nowhere left for then to go in Portland.

Winks is the ONLY place I could find a particular black lamp cord for a hanging light. Love this place. They have all kinds of cool stuff, excellent service and well worth the price. Yes, I got scolded for examining the wiring myself, having missed the sign that said No Self Service, which I took to mean no cutting without a staff person. Seemed stupid that I couldnt just look. Perhaps a misinterpretation of company policy.

This is a place you got to keep in mind when it comes to finding oddball and tough to find parts for your home. When you absolutely have to have wacky and tough to find parts for cabinetry and home repairs, you absolutely need it today and a big box store doesnt carry it... This is where you go.

Love this place!! I live in Pittsburgh PA now and my house was built in 1853. We do not have a winks alternative here and find ourselves ordering from places online. Thankfully on a quick trip home I had enough time to pick up some hefty skeleton keys. Staff is always so helpful and patient!! I wish winks was everywhere because our yocals here are clueless!! Thank you Winks for staying the same after all these years!!

I love this store, but why dont you have products that can be viewed on line? Its difficult to drive 30 miles one way to your store only to find out you dont offer the hardware Im looking for. Plus the traffic and parking are ridiculous. Your losing customers who want to browse and buy just because they may not be willing to travel not knowing what you have.
