Im plugging the Natural Grocers store on MLK and NE Alberta for product selection over New Seasons and Whole Paycheck - and I believe its a Black owned business. Crazy large bodycare section, flavors of products you didnt know existed, great produce, not crowded. I went in last night and got wowed. Grassfed organic yogurt in beautiful glass containers? Yes, Im *that* Portlander. π I was excited to see more Weleda products sold than anywhere else. Ancient Grain GF pizza that is my favorite and discontinued elsewhere. Multiple flavors of the dairy free gf cheezecakes. Insanely large supplements section. It takes a bit to navigate a very different store and layout.
Natural grocers is a smaller market or has that feel to it and the employees are super helpful and friendly. NG the employees are super customer service oriented and knowledge about the products in the store. If you want to find a product they will walk with you to show you where it is in the store and find the best product for you.
No bags policy is stupid. The only bag you can buy is $2.5 or carry your food in an ugly box, very inconvenient on a bicycle π€£Are they pretending to care about planet or just found a way to make extra money on bags? Both!Otherwise why to waste a heavy cardboard box instead of a Β’5 paper recyclable bag.
Love coming here! Every time I experience Destini itβs heartwarming and outstanding friendly kindness! Thank you for being a Light!!
Staff are friendly and the store is very clean. Clerks are quick to get items checked out and theres plenty of boxes at checkout.
Staff is supper friendly. I love the fact that they only have reusable bags for sale and if you dont want to purchase one, they have boxes they reuse from shipments. Thats a great idea guys, way to be sustainable.
The staff is friendly and helpful. Got my questions answered quickly.
Excellent store. I buy Catalina Crunch Keto cereal there which I cant find anywhere else as well as Ultima Electrolyte replacement drink mix which is a great way to drink a lot of water. I also find Tangerine Kevita probiotic drink which is hard to find. Only drawback is the lack of wifi. Taycee is very helpful and I took an online keto class there.
This store is somewhat limited in some areas of the store. They have more vitamins and supplements than New Seasons, Whole Foods and the Coops I have been to in town. They have some products that are really hard to find in the above mentioned chains and coops. The best part is that they dont seem to have that much traffic. For the pandemic this has been a huge relief because at this store I dont have to feel like getting groceries is a big risk for my health. I am so glad this store opened up in my area when it did.
Great selection and the prices are low for the product
Do you ever just love going to a certain store and not really know why? This is how Natural Grocers is for me. They just seem to be so genuine in their offerings. I believe they are still family owned which Im sure is part of it. Megaliths like Whole Foods and New Seasons have lost their appeal to me after frequenting them for many years. So corporate. Natural Grocers devotes too much space to vitamins in my opinion, but even that doesnt detract from the overall good vibe of this place. All the produce is organic and not always perfect, just real. I also never have to stand in a line out front waiting for somebody to leave so I can go in. Keep it real Natural Grocers!
Fresh organic food that doesnt cost a whole pay check. Love it!
Great location, nice and clean, friendly staff, well well organized and provisioned, lots of unique items, especially organic options even more than other stores, and, particularly this store seems better provisioned than other Natural Grocers around, happy shopping!
You have to walk outside to get a Wi-Fi signal for an Insta cart shopper you have to walk outside to scan each item they should not have a service here that requires Wi-Fi and then block signals
Delightful natural grocers. Picked up some Bach flower essences and supplements, but they have fresh EVERYTHING!
Absolutely love this place! They have a broad selection, great prices, and friendly staff. Highly recommend!
I love this store. Its five miles from my home in the NW district, but worth a trip once or twice a month! They carry things other grocers dont, and have outstanding quality gproduce.
Natural Grocers is about 13% cheaper than other locals, all organic, eggs are best price and a great veggie and bulk section. Nice folks too-
Come here for great prices on free range eggs. Not cheap for cheese, bulk food prices are ok but its all pre-packaged. Limited beer selection. Produce is cheaper than speciality grocers but doesnt last quite as long in the fridge. The loyalty club is worth signing up for.
Very small, rather expensive, no deli section, barely any selection. Went there once, no interest in going back.
Fast check out
Really clean, fully stocked and plenty of parking.
Small and friendly. Prices better than NS and encourage environmental awareness more.
Great food. Overpriced.
Adorbs, they got what I need and the staff is good people! I appreciate this place
Lovely produce, great price. lovely large pink lady apples, broccoli and a huge fennel bulb. i made the broccoli salad tonight. apple, celery, fennel salad next!
Location, selection, health orientated, great staff and resources.
Great prices on a lot of items that are marked up other places and the cashiers are super friendly! Give them all raises β₯οΈ
Great location for Natural Grocers. Wish theyd also put one at NE 122nd and Sandy
Good prices on all organic produce and eggs; good service too
Fantastic store to get organic produce, gluten and dairy free products, and pretty much any vitamin or supplement youve ever heard of. I find that their prices are generally lower than other health food stores. Also, their bulk section is amazing! Herbs, spices, nuts, seeds, pretty much every kind of flour, dried beans, grains, natural sugars..the list goes on.
No cell service and public wifi is not provided in store.
The employees are awesome, its the no cellphone service thats the issue
Friendly service, good quality food, better prices than most health food stores.
This place reminds me of my worth as a human being. Im so happy it exists
Like the environment and cool products lots of wines.. delicious food and ice cream is a hit
Doing InstaCart here, Zero cell service inside.
There are but a few who still see the monumental value in customer service, especially when most businesses make the shopping experience feel like its a thing of the past. Thank you for all who worked this evening.
Ok place
Update: this grocery store is great! They have all kinds of bread and food regular grocery stores have plus food that people with allergies can eat like me. They also have all kinds of products like shampoo, soap, etc. that are free of perfume and chemicals that I can use. I am allergic to perfume and chemicals. The prices for these products cost less than other stores and online. Im thrilled to be able to buy shampoo, soap, etc that I can use and afford. My sister loves the store also. The food she buys here costs about the same as other grocery stores or less. We have received great customer service also. All around great store.
When whole foods quality meets Trader Jos price. My new favorite grocery store!!
It is so amazing to have Natural Grocers nearby. I count myself lucky to be able to go look at things in person, not just on a computer screen :-)
Check this place out. Natural Grocers offers high quality produce, nutrition education, dietary vitamins and supplements, and body care products. For more than 50 years, Natural Grocers has committed itself to offering the best products at affordable prices as your dedicated community store. Fresh, natural groceries youβll love.
This is truly one of the best Stores in all of the Natural Grocers I fould in Oregon. I wish they had this store in Salinas, Calif. They were having an Anniversary Party. Anniversary Celebration with free Ice Cream and Drawings. The Staff and Employees were all friendly. Dressed for the Part of Being Happy To Be There. Thanks for the fun experience!
Love that they have a all organic produce and groceries. I also like that they dont have shopping bags, which reduces waste. If you are looking for a quiet place to grocery shop, this is it. The prices are mostly reasonable, though it depends on what you buy. Wish they had a wider variety of things branded/made by them (so as to be cheaper), so I could do all my shopping here.
Great observance of social distancing and supply of hand sanitizer to use at the entrance. I do appreciate Natural Grocers selection of organic natural products.
A good place to buy healthier food.
I love this place!
For what they have, they are great. Its amazing that some of the prices can be so much lower than new seasons, and I think thats what people who knock this story need to understand, they do a few things really well, but they cant do everything, especially with the cost of running a store in Portland. You can get your hot food and salad bar elsewhere. Often prices in supplements are better than Amazon. Great addition
Limited selection and all for a price thats difficult to excuse aside from maintaining a nice market. Just went there for a simple thermometer and in a section with thousands of nutrients and health options there were no thermometers. Three different food thermometers but not one for people. You would think theyd clear out a shelf in that section and stock it with everything youd need to both test for and survive having Covid-19, Considering how much they practice social distancing.
So, I love Natural Grocers prices, their produce is great (above Trader Joes but below New Seasons), their selection of vegan and gluten-free foods is pretty amazing, not to mention their extensive supplement section.But. (Theres always a but.) Their bulk items come in individually wrapped plastic bags, which defeats the entire purpose of bulk. They commit to no bags available at the check out, but then drop the ball in the bulk section? If youre trying to reduce waste in your life, especially single-use plastic, skip this store and go to the Albina co-op instead. Theyre pricier for some staples, but their bulk section makes it actually possible to reduce your waste.
Pricey, pricey. But they do have some good sales prices on rotating items. Great deal on organic eggs if you join their club. ONLIEST (!) place I can find my Newmans Own pomegranate licorice. YumImeanYum!
Great selection of items
Friendly people and a very clean store!
Bring a bag!
A pretty weird store that Ive never seen very many people in. For a natural food store the produce selection is really small, though affordable for organic and quite high quality. They always seem to not have fairly normal things Im looking for, last time was that English muffins are only available frozen and not fresh.
Im writing to voice concern over the managers behavior. This store is located in what was once a thriving Black community, that has now been gentrified. This morning a fellow community member noticed a noose hanging in the rear view of the managers car. When asked to remove it, they replied with its not a big deal. However it is a big deal, a very big deal. Im hoping youll do whats necessary to change the thought process of someone employed to represent the values of your company. Unless racism is one of your companies values....
This is my favorite grocery store! They sell only organic produce at a fraction of the cost of Whole Foods or New Seasons, all super fresh! Huge selection of everything you need and all quality products - organic produce, large bulk section, dairy, non-dairy, vegan options, ethically raised eggs and meat, kombucha, large natural skin care products, tons of tinctures and supplements. And again, far less expensive than the other big natural food stores! Plus you can become a member for free and get all sorts of deals. I used to think this was only a supplement store when it was called Vitamin Cottage, but it is so far from that. Plus free nutrition counseling and health courses. I hope this place thrives, as it makes eating well easy and affordable!
Friendly employees, prices often far cheaper than New Seasons ($2/lb for organic mushrooms vs $5 at NS!), all organic produce at a good price, great deals on items I buy regularly(eggs, almond butter, all sorts of bulk goodies), not stuck-up.I keep telling friends how much I love this store, so I decided to tell the world wide web as well. if you havent given them a shot yet, you should!I think its great that theyre bagless. If you forget a bag, they have free boxes.Very good quality, healthy foods at a more affordable price. I dont see anything to complain about there.
Better choices and prices then New Seasons for me anyway
No deli or hot food section. However, it was not crowded, produce looked good, huge selection of supplements and bulk items, and a great variety of frozen meats. Prices are comparable to New Seasons, but if youre looking to avoid a crowd and just need basic organic and healthy food options this is a great alternative.
Expensive if ya dont have their membership card. If ya do they have a few good deals. Convenient location but they have a strange parking lot and ya cant turn east onto Alberta with thr double yellow line and traffic.
Nothing stood out. Pretty decent store.
Kinda strange place. Bulk isle is full of packaged items but they did the packaging. A lot of the store is devoted to vitamins and nutrition stuff because they are part of the Vitamin Cottage Empire. I have a strong dislike it the dual price structure they have chosen with their npower BS. Are you in or are you out. Way to create division. If it were a co-op that might explain something but they are not. I will stop here in a real pinch but otherwise will shop elsewhere.
What a great addition to NE Portland . Such a charming diverse store! Great staff and great prices. They are a cross between Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Wonderful selection of Vitamins and food.
Unique items not available everywhere. Very nicely laid out. Very clean and bright. Fun shopping experience.
They continue to sell a lot of my go-to items. Friendly. Clean.
Didnt catch his name but the vitamin guy knows his stuff! I would def go back to this location again
Great organic produce. Too expensive for staples.
Really do love this store. Selection is getting better.
There are just a few affordable options. However, still out of the price range for many neighbors. I do like the dried fruit/bean selection. 1.99 organic eggs. Safeway is not an affordable option either. Too bad we have to drive so far out of the area to feed our families. Gentrification is alive and well. Priced out.
No bags, crummy attitude, ok for quick stop, appear to be struggling.Cashier wanted to know if I had been Im the before I said yesHe seemed to be hinting at I hadnt bought enough stuff, bought some coffee and Mayo. He gave me a bag I took it as a snyde remark to buy more. I think I will keep shopping at Chucks in Vancouver.
Large selection for the health conscious buyer.
Prices are ok compared to others but they have literally everything you could be looking for when it comes to natural remedies and vitamins
FaVoRiTe grocery spot in Portland
Veggies were very fresh!
I dont tolerate racism especially such blatant hate being spread by someone trusted to manage other people and trusted- no, expected to be a leader in your establishment. People should know whats being done as a result of that noose flaunting manager of yours getting caught. How disgustingly evil to do that and zero intelligence to expect to continue without consequences! This isnt the white utopian society a few jerks tried to create, that failed miserably. It never will be. Get over it!
Produce looks best in this stroe
Easy to get around and shop in store, Super friendly employees, all produce is organic that is sold here. One of my fav. grocery stores in the portland, positive place to shop.
Went in for the first time and it was so nice and clean in there there were several free samples around the store and they offer health and wellness classes and nutrition information on all types of things
Great to have this in the neighborhood. The selection is good. There are no where near enough cashiers. Wait time in line was 13 mins. There was just once cashier on Saturday evening around 8PM.
Give them a chance. I actually love going there shopping and their prices are good
Iβm surprised to see the comments about βgreat prices.β This was definitely not my experience in looking for pretty much everything except eggs. When I asked where the meat was, I got a long ideological answer about the meat industry and why they have very limited meat options. The tiny meat section they did have only offered items for 2X more than any other store. When I needed a bag to check out, I was informed that it was a βbag-less storeβ? They only offered to sell me reusable bags (since I didnβt know any better ha). Luckily, the clerk took pity on a brother and comp-ed me the bag since it was my first time in the store.I went in wanting to like the store because of the good things Iβve heard about it in the news, but the experience was inhospitable and prescribed. I felt like I was not part of the club of βsaving the world by paying lots for groceriesβ and knowing the rules of having to bring a bag and why we shouldnβt eat meat. They may be meeting the needs of a niche market, but it was too much for me.
This place has great prices, a wonderful produce and grocery selection, and its well laid out.Other reviewers trashing it for weird political reasons, out-of-touch pricing objections, not being able to discern the difference between a freezer and a refrigerator or because they couldnt find the bread or the produce section - these are just the local crazies and should be ignored. What is up with the complaints about the fact that they sell supplements? In the dead of winter, try their liquid vitamin D or maybe some shitake mushrooms and see if that doesnt help your outlook.
Love, love, love the great produce and other food selection. Not really into their whole βremedyβ section which is extremely large and just a theft of peopleβs money who donβt take the time to objectively look at the science of the supposed benefits.
I like Natural Grocers, as their prices for most things are cheaper than a lot of places around town. I usually go to the Beaverton branch, but in summer at least, this branch is a nice bike ride away, and its a bit nicer than the Beaverton branch.
No diversity
Staff are amazing, and so is the selection
They need more. Not sure what but its too quiet in here. Nice new facility and has my support.
Super helpful staff, good prices and tons of local options. Love it!
It feels like some kind of cult business front. Weird bible references. Product selection is weird, and the bulk department is all pre-packaged....which means its not really bulk now is it? Produce section is pathetic. This business blew smoke up the neighborhoods behind with PDC (now Prosper Portland) towing their trailer full of lies. Hideous development, business faces the parking lot rather than the street (thanks Majestic!). Would have preferred it to stay the grass lot until someone with some sense could have done something with the parcel.
This review is specifically aimed at the Wellness/Supplements department. I had been suffering for months from GI issues and weight loss, and my gastroenterologist had proven worse than useless, giving me advice that made my symptoms exponentially worse and subjecting me to extremely expensive and invasive tests.I had finally had enough, and was lucky enough to walk in on a day Augustine was working supplements. She was extraordinarily helpful, and spent time looking over the homeopathic medicine book with me, discussing various strategies and what worked best for her. With her help I managed to put together a regimen and improve my symptoms almost overnight for under $100! I am so glad this store is in my neighborhood!
Very nice
Great store, friendly staff and good vibes :)
I am so excited for this store to open, its even closer to me, and has excellent local products. They keep nuts and raw chocolate in the fridge, so thank you!
Weve enjoyed shopping here, but found out the hard way about their questionable practices of selling expired meat. We bought frozen Buffalo in the clearance area and when we thawed it out, noticed that the sell by date was a month past. On opening it, it was clearly bad and they wouldnt take it back until they realized they werent going to get away with it. They still wouldnt take back the other two pounds, so were stuck with bad meat. Whats worse is the ODAgriculture, allows this, even though you cant verify when they froze the meat. We contacted Corporate and they declined to respond, so you can be sure there are thousands of you buying bad meat across the USA!!
