Good selection of brands and a knowledgeable staff. This place has been around for a long time and their new location is terrific. 3 listening spaces plus the front and the side corridor. Fair prices. Buy local!
I have a new favorite Hi-Fi shop and its Stereotypes. I bought the Rega Planar 10 (a $7000 turntable) from them over the phone and, boy, did they take care of me. Rich and his crew answered my questions, kept me informed on the status of the turntable and I received it in Seattle the day after they got it. They did a beautiful job setting the turntable up and I could not be happier. These guys rock!! Ill be back.
Very helpful and friendly shop that is LOCAL! They were the only ones in town that had my Ortofon replacement stylus and held it for me so I could make it over there. When I need equipment, Ill be back!
I don’t post many reviews online but I had to leave one for Stereotypes after having such a great experience there. I was helped by Rich and Andrew (I think.... I’m terrible with names!) and they were so amiable and knowledgeable. Rich gave me a complete rundown of the turntable I was buying and answered questions I didn’t even know I had. Highly recommend a visit here!
I was happily able to schedule an appointment due to Rich’s flexibility with my limited available times while in town, and able to audition products not offered in my area. Rich and Andrew gave me great attention!I have been an audiophile for over 30 years and have visited many stores over that time, and this was by far the most enjoyable experience. I had spoken with Rich previously regarding my interests and current system, and he allowed me to audition exactly what my stated interested where with zero pressure, no sales hype and allowed me ample time to audition with out hovering about. This was quite honestly one of the most pleasurable experiences in shopping. I will be giving my business to Rich, and looking forward to working with him.I highly recommend you connect with these fine folks and experience their professional manner and outstanding line of audio products. The store is also very comfortable and has a great old school HiFi vibe. Kudos. A+++!
Stereotypes staff dont seem like theyre going the extra mile for you. Its much more effortless and interactively enjoyable. They seem to give you all the assistance and information you want and make it like good friends conversing. I found them very helpful and their prices competitive. If you find honesty and experience refreshing in these times - youll enjoy dealing with them.
Great store and nice service! Unfortunately, I couldnt try any headphones due to the pandemic but I got an open box Grado sr60e for a great price. Sounds great with my Altmann Tera Player!
I was interested in a new power cable to run from the wall to my power filter. Stereotypes had the Shunyata cable I was interested in. With just a couple of emails I had arranged a home trial. I decided to buy the cable but I needed to special order a cable to fit my power filter. No problem. Within 2 weeks I had my new cable. Everything sounds decidedly better!Stereotypes were always friendly and efficient. And they do have a very nice selection of equipment. Highly recommended.
Fantastic shop full of goodies with friendly staff - whats not to like?
Looks like i have no way to replay it. Then i have to put another.1 Thank you for replaying.2 There are several issues there.3 I dont know whats the definition of prepositional of everyone.A: They dont know the correct warranty year of their products.B: The communication, on the first the price they offer to me as the same as other deals + they require cash. On the second, i use their website to send new request. I dont get response until now.C: Their price like someone else said pricey. Actually its almost 10% higher.D: Based on the communication, for me feeling.i dont really think the young man has the patience to resolve the issue in the future. I remember the lase word he said is The is our final price, if you dont like it you can get out the store.
Great place! Love the people! Love the choice. Happy to do business and I will be back
After calling three other audio specialists in Portland who couldnt help me I gave these guys a ring and they were the best! They gave me some very doable tips on diagnosing my speaker / receiver issues, above & beyond customer service - 10/10.Shout out to Howard for spending almost 30 minutes on the phone with me answering all my stupid questions!
Have not yet set and utilized the equipment I purchased but I can review the service. Rarely these days do you find someone that is committed to providing exceptional service. Well folks the staff at Stereotypes do. I drove 3.5 hours to the store and Andrew had laid out several configurations of speakers and amps for me to experience. He swapped speakers several times until we found the correct system for my ears. No pushing of brands, no salesmanship, no pressure. High quality people to be sure. Stereotypes Audio should be proud. I will be back!
Great group that works here. Very knowledgeable about the equipment and willing to make sure what you bought is right for you. Clearly the best stereo store in Portland. (And I’ve been to them all.)
Superior knowledge and warm, friendly service. They’re down to earth and will take time to explain the technical side of things to the audio novice. If you care about the sound quality of your music and want to invest in it, support this amazing local business! We love our Proac speakers and we love Stereotypes!
When I first moved to the Portland area, it was a struggle finding both an experienced and friendly hifi audio store that truly listened to me, and was interested in helping me solve my stereo upgrade dilemma/questions. They took the time to find out about the system I had, and asked the right questions that could guide me to the best solutions for ME. Helping me to prioritize when and what to upgrade/change and how best that I could build my dream system over time. Balancing the needs of a growing family, along with my desires for a dynamic, real and natural sounding system, isnt always easy.. but thankfully Teri and her team guided me to the right set up for all of us. I couldnt be happier with our audio system from Stereotypes Audio, and now my kids are growing up enjoying music in much the way I do. Thank you.
Fantastic selection, good service, and honest recommendations. I will certainly go back again for more high quality audio equipment
Very knowledgeable and professional. The best sound systems Ive heard as a dedicated 60 year audiophile.
I now do all my audio shopping here, and I wouldn’t think of going anywhere else. They’re knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely interested in helping you on the slow and deliberate journey of getting to the sound that you like.
They really helped find the right complex solution. Great people
Staff Is friendly and very easy to work with. I had to return a Blu-ray player and the process went smoothly. I will be back to shop again.
My go-to spot for all things audio. Great products and great service. I recommend this business.
Bought an Oppo Digital Blu-Ray player here. Great knowledgeable staff. Like that you can listen to any of the speakers they sell in store, very accomodating. The only issue is they dont have in house installation teams. As long as Im not trying to walk mount something or install an in wall or in ceiling speaker I would gladly buy from this place again.
Great shopping experience. Love my new sounds.
Best audio buying experience ever! No attitude great advice, easy no pressure.
The guys there know audio but not DSD as much...But they were the place to check out Focal speakers and Nola.....But great place to stop and check out cool stuff.
They are very good at turntable setup - your patience will be rewarded
With the experience for myself. i dont really think they are a good dealer
Independent audio stores are not in abundance these days. Thankfully, Portland has a few, and Stereotypes has a lot on board of what I believe to be a place worth visiting for such things. The most refreshing aspect of Stereotypes for me are the brands on offer. There are lots of different options for amplifier and speaker matching to get the sound I want in my home. Naim amplifiers driving PMC speakers is a wonderful thing, as is Sim Audio gear driving ProAc speakers, as well as Rega amplifiers partnering Spendor speakers. Lovely stuff.Terri and crew have lots of different sources to pick from. Nicely built turntables, wireless audio devices, and lots of versions there of.The folks at Stereotypes will happily show the right way to buy audio gear, and they make sensible recommendations to compliment whatever floats your boat.Forgive me for waving Stereotypes flag so much, but I have found it is a really good store to find sonic nirvana for your taste in music.I will be shopping here again, and I look forward to my next visit.
Rich & Howard are great guys and know their stuff.
Hard to review a place with so much Hi-Fi equipment that anyone with ears would be insanely jealous. Im going to try anyway. As a customer in search of some new cans to replace my old Audio Technica a700s (a great set btw) I came across Stereotypes through a friend referral. I cant really rate all the equipment, for one a TON of it is out of my price range. At the same time they have gear for every level of enthusiast.Upgrading from my ATs I was looking to spend $3-5 on a set of closed back headphones. I need something that wont disturb the wifey. Weve shifted to opposite schedules, so I tip toe in, turn on my cans and play video games, watch Hulu and listen to music in the dead of night. Sometimes I watch her sleep. Okay, little creepy, sorry back to the audio. ;)I had been looking all over at the top brands in my range, Sennheiser, Grado, AKG, and the newer PSB. Luckily, people in Portland still support shops like this. I always consider it worth it to give an independent store like this a little premium up to a point. I dont like price gouging, but I will definitely be more willing to spend full retail. So please, let them hook up your ears, and dont just pop in to audition and then hop on the web.Okay, off the soap box.Service 10. I called ahead, they informed me they had a peg board of all their cans to listen too. Hooked up to some quality gear I might add. You could swap at will and plug everything in through a pre amp. The man at the counter remembered my name and showed me around the store and then left me to listen.Selection has to be up there. Pretty impossible to carry absolutely everything for every one, but they had a great selection. There wasnt any AKG on the wall, but I had already ruled it out due to being to tinny or bright sounding for my tastes.Within minutes of juggling different cans, I found my upgrade: The closed back PSB M4u1... cranked the volume up and down, changed tracks, changed cans and back again. It definitely sounded like a worthy upgrade to the a700s I was searching for. I wont review the headphones here but if youre in need of a decent pair for almost any application, you could do far worse, and people certainly spend more on junk than I did on quality. The kicker of this 5 star review, is not only did they have the cans, not only was service excellent and pleasant, not only did I get to listen to everything I wanted, but they were BELOW the internet msrp by a good margin. This was NOT something I could get for cheaper on Amazon. My ears have been in the things for hours this afternoon, and I am completely satisfied with my purchase. If I need anything else, or just have audio questions, or maybe I want to hang out somewhere cool I might head to Morrison and kick it with the Stereotypes.fantastic
Awesome service, great group of guys and awesome headphones to try!
A bit pricey but if you believe what they are saying. Pay for that.
Super knowledgeable staff.
Great service, quality stuff!
All around excellence
