Great place to get scuba certified! Everyone we interacted with was knowledgeable with equipment and friendly, and made scuba safe and approachable. I would highly recommend NW scuba as a place to get your initial or advanced scuba certification!

NW scuba is an awesome shop with a genuine, helpful staff to assist you with any scuba needs! I got my open water certification through them and Jesse took great time and care in helping me with choosing my first gear set up. Their knowledge and passion for scuba are obvious, and the quality of their customer care is outstanding. I highly recommend NW Scuba to anyone, at any stage in your diving career!

I did not have a chance to use their services but I got great advice from AJ on scuba certification. His opinions were very honest and kept my interest at higher priority than money or business. I really appreciated this and I believe this place has good honest practices.

My daughter and I came to buy snorkeling masks and some other equipment before visiting Hawaii for the first time. Jesse was extremely knowledgeable about the masks, fins, and reef shoes that would work well for us, and he was friendly and patient as we tried things on. We are not very confident swimmers, and Jesse was very generous in answering questions we had about snorkeling and beach safety. He also happens to know a lot about Oahu. We live close by and were happy to discover this place!

I forgot to pick up my dive computer/reg until packing the night before my trip. Jesse came from home to open the shop after hours. most people wouldnt have answered the phone. He wouldnt accept a tip or gas money. I dont know how you could find better.

Josh and Jesse of NW Scuba are fantastic. Theyre very professional and take a personal approach in their instruction. During my sons open water training, Josh and the support instructors went the extra mile to make sure he was successful. Thank you very much!John Beadle

I am recently new to Portland and needed my diving fix. Jesse was so friendly and helped me get set up with a boat dive in the Puget Sound. Jonesy and his group were fantastic to dive with and I plan on joining them again in the near future. I have found my new dive shop, Folks!

Super late on this review, and sorry it is so long but I want to be thorough…I really wanted to like NW Scuba. The guys in the shop could not have been nicer. However, we dont always get what we want, as I found out after taking my Apeks flight reg to be serviced by them last fall.I had done quite a bit of research on getting my reg serviced and had considered doing it myself (very cheap- about $40 -70 for kits on ebay, depending on what you need to service) but ultimately decided I would rather have “professionals” do it. These regs are easy to get serviced in the UK (about $100 for a full service, excluding shipping) but I was moving around a bit and didn’t want to try to figure out where to have it sent when it was all finished, so I contacted NW Scuba, and they said they could service my reg. Yay!Turns out they outsourced my reg service. I would much rather have just gone direct but, whatever- figured all would be well. HA!At the time, the only thing “wrong” with the reg was a periodic tendency toward (very) minor free-flow on my primary. Like, not enough to be dangerous or even affect my consumption- just enough to be annoying. Probably a piece of sand stuck in the diaphragm, or something equally minor. I explained this and said that my octo was fine and didn’t need anything. They told me they would call or message me to let me know when the reg was ready. Two weeks later I hadn’t heard anything but luckily when I called the reg was ready so… poor communication but… no biggie. Get to the shop and find out that the bill is $250! As in, about half of what I originally paid for the reg! And the shop they outsourced to had done a full octo service, even though I had said it was fine. *sigh* ok it was my fault for not having asked about the cost to begin with, so I sucked it up and forked over the dough.I will review the “service job” done on my reg (through Thunder Reef Divers in Vancouver, WA) more in depth on their site but briefly… There was a piece of the first stage that they “couldn’t fix/replace”, which was in perfect working order when I dropped it off. Then the reg failed after only 18 dives! It was just a blown o-ring but still! I had done hundreds of dives on the reg prior to that and then I blow an O-ring only 18 dives after a $250 service!? On top of all of that, my depth gauge (which was totally accurate prior to servicing) was reading 10 bar low.Contacted NW Scuba to see about a partial refund and initially felt reassured because I received a very speedy response from Josh, one of the owners. He told me to bring the reg in and they would get it repaired, because “customer service is very important to us and we will get this handled”. When I explained that I was in the Philippines and would be there for months (hence would have to get the reg serviced there) I was told that “there will be no refunds as your reg was working and performing within spec when it left the shop”. Not sure if that message was from Josh or one of the other workers but in either case, I am out $250, plus the additional money to service the reg again in the Philippines (haha which cost me $36 bucks for a complete overhaul!- wish I had just gone there in the first place!).Later... Not sure if they will leave their reply up in light of this but they replied to the review saying that I had not requested the depth guage to be serviced. This is an outright lie, as the photo below will attest to (see note from shop regarding leak from computer).I ask people... Do you want to do business with a shop that will lie to you? All I asked for was a partial refund, since I ended up having to get my reg serviced again within what I felt to be an unacceptably small amount of time following a VERY expensive service. If the shop had refunded a portion of my money I would have been satisfied and would not have left a negative review. But I dont like doing business with cheats and liars so I hope sharing my experience saves someone else the hassle.

We rented two wet suit setups from Nw scuba on Saturday feb 3rd. The owner was not in town, and his brother was running the shop during his absentance. The rental fees where higher than we had previously paid at a competitors (so call around). At that time the brother gave us a deal, so we paid the extra amount vrs driving across the river. At the time of the return the owner was back and had to instruct the employee that was helping the brother while he was gone, on what and where to check for tears in the suit. Not to my wife’s surprise they found the suit was had multiple tears in it, that my wife noticed at the time of trying them on. Each tear had a cost of repair added to it. My complaint is not the cost but that at the time of the rental no one went over what would be inspected and where to look for the damage they would inspect for. The owner says it is like renting a car. I agree it should be only when you rent a car they walk through the inspection with you prior to you driving off or in this case walking out the door, this was not done. At the time of the rental no one walked through the return process or what to look for. Has this taken place at that time the tears would have been noticed and could have been addressed or noted with a professional manner. The owner was nice enough to point out and not charge us for a previously repair that had failed. There where 6 tears in all. My wife and I are not inexperienced divers nor discrespective type people if we rent equipment we make sure to take care of that equipment like it was our own. This maybe the only bad review on NW scuba, I did not read them, but I have to say at 44 years old I found it shady enough to write my first ever review good or bad. INSPECT THE EQUIPMENT PRIOR TO TRYING THEM ON.I hope this helps save someone some hard earned money, and help NW scub improve there customer relations.

I just had my regulators serviced, a safe second added to my bc and my sons tanks hydroed. I also bought some other supplies. Jonsey and Jessy were very helpful. The service was completed in a timely manner and they explained what they did and gave me all the parts that they took out to replace. I also enjoy talking with them. They let me take up their time to talk about diving.
