My best friends and I made a girls trip out of Portland. One of my girls was craving oysters, Dan & Louis was 2 of 2 oyster bars that were great choices. We also got extremely lucky with our reservations because it was happy hour! We ended up with 4 dozen ray oysters on a half shell. Great options they gave us 2 of each oyster from the card they gave us that told us where each oyster was from. Very tasty and creamy and it absolutely makes you want more. We were definitely oysterd out by the end of our meal. We also got the shrimp cocktail which wasnt really shrimp cocktail, my friend referred to them as maggots horrible way to describe them but in her defense thats really what they looked like. Still worth the visit especially during happy hour!
My friend Rich and I enjoyed this venue recently in the afternoon. We had a sample oyster plate and a salad with some salmon. They also made us an awesome dessert plate ( chocolate cake, scoop of vanilla ice-cream and a raspberry sauce on the side. It was all decadent and delicious, but what put the experience over the top was our visit with one of the owners ( who was serving) and a visit to the big room which looks like the inside of a ship. Really amazing and needs to be seen!! BTW our favorite oysters hands down were the Totten ones at the bottom of the list! 😄
Great happy hour especially for oysters on Monday - 6 for 12. Delicious calamari, seafood all around truly. I loved the oyster soup (huge oysters, slurpable broth) and the fish tacos were tender and light. I definitely want to return and slurp dozens more oysters. A great, slightly casual, but still classically delicious dining experience. Love the decor too!
Great seafood! We ordered a traditional fry, a chicken sandwich and a bowl of traditional clam chowder. They were all amazing! Interaction with staff was limited because we ordered take-out.The traditional fry came with cod and oysters. The cod was light and crisp. The oyster were also light and crisp but not my personal favorite. The fries were crispy. The clam chowder was thick and rich! Very milky with big chunks of clam and perfect bite size pieces of potato. The star of the three was the chicken sandwich. Chicken breast pulverized into a quarter inch thick slice of lightly fried heaven topped with thick cut bacon on a fresh, light hoagie bun. May not come here every time were in Portland but will definitely stop here again at some point.
Prepared poorly, some items were missing, no utensils, ugly food presentation, no cups for the sauce so it all got messed up. From all the food I tried only that terrible soup. NEXT day I got SICK!!! All manager could offer is 30 percent off the order, really? Like it’s going to fix anything… All meals went to trash. Terrible place would never order again.
Great food in the heart of everything. Oysters were SO fresh. Also had the salmon chowder, which was excellent, along with the Happy Hour fish tacos. Full bar.
Hey, its an oyster house...no surprise there... We enjoyed some oyster flight, which were very tasty. My sandwich was very good too. Friendly server. Worth the experience.
We had the queen for our server. She was dynamite! Everyone loved their chowder. Thank you!
The clam chowder was perfect! Not too many potatoes, well rinsed clams, creamy but not overly rich, and affordable. Great service with a smile. Ill be back to try more.
This place is fabulous! Oysters and prawn cocktail were so good and cocktails were perfect! Cameron was the BEST waiter! Super knowledgeable and friendly. Couldn’t have had better service. Thank you Cameron! We will be back.
Great oyster selection and very fresh serving. A++ for carrying good non alcoholic beer.Service was fast but wait for table was longer than usual. If the weather is good, highly recommend sitting outside.
The staff was very friendly which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. I think we got forgotten about, however. It took forever for anyone to aknowledge after we were seated and we were never offered water (granted, we didnt ask for water and it was during happy hour). The food was kind of gross and tasted like it had been frozen too long. I wont be going back.
Absolutely the freshest oysters Ive had in years! Definitely a go-to place every single time we are in Portland. Also, some of the best clam chowder weve had, and the prices are very reasonable.
Love Dan and Louis new happy hour 4-6. Excellent prices, great service, such good fish tacos, delicious house wine. 🍷
The atmosphere was nice and the waitstaff was friendly, but for an oyster bar those were the smallest most expensive oysters I’ve ever had. The chowder was just milk with some seafood in it. The thing that I can really rave about is the captains platter. The fried calamari was delicious. So delicious that we decided to order a 2nd plate of it. Sadly the 2nd plate was not cooked as well.
Great family run restaurant with yummy fresh oysters! Get them on the half shell for a real treat, but the ‘oysters Rockefeller’ are equally delicious. The fried calamari was light and crispy and the steamed muscles and clams came in a scrumptious broth that made me happy they gave me bread (and a soup spoon) to sop up! A definite vibe and great find in the heart of downtown Portland!!!
All the seafood options... We got a dozen regional oysters and some delicious fish and chips. Great area of town too!
Great Clam chowder and fish tacos! I love this Portland staple and the people who work there! Its a classic
Excellent chowders. The salmon could be better. But otherwise a great place. The staff is very friendly, the place is a Portland classic.
My mother went every Saturday when she was a child. My parents brought me there every Saturday through the early 60s. I came back in the mid 90s while working as a boat captain in Alaska. Now I brought my girlfriend and her daughter from North Carolina. The oyster stew hasnt changed. I recommend this place for authentic seafood dishes.
Best Seafood on the West Coast... Family owned since 1905.... Everyone should eat here....Smoked Salmon chowder... enough said!!!!!
There was nothing on the menu that was not absolutely delicious. From the clam chowder to the pomegranate margaritas, there was a touch of excellence.
Love this restaurant! Fresh seafood and great service! Highly recommend the sourdough bread with half clams and mussels!
Classic oyster bar. Dont bother if youre picky. Please. Leave us the good chill oysters and beer. And cider and excellent bar.
Honestly it was very bad service. All our food was COLD. It took forever for everything. Flies in our drink. The lemonade was water tasting. I really was so unhappy but still tipped. Til this moment I never seen my receipt. They don’t train properly at all. If the restaurant is reading this I’d like my money back.
Absolutely awesome food, service, and atmosphere. I will definitely be back again, and not just with my out of town visitors. Great beer selection and the cocktails are on point. Very highly recommended!
Great drinks and oysters! Great selection of 6 different kind kinds of oyster. Drinks were really good and so was the bartender.
Oysters were pretty good. I really enjoyed the clam chowder. The calamari was a little disappointing.
Awesome clam chowder. Definitely a must get if thats what your craving :)
Excellent oysters, gumbo, and fish and chicken sandwich! Great service too :)
Tried all 6 types of oysters, so tasty. Ambiance is cozy
Great oyster bar with happy hour specials and friendly staff ❤️✌🏾
I feel we were on a hidden camera, practical joke show with this experience.Six of us walked in to a restaurant that was 95% empty and asked to be seated. The man who greeted us, left to find a table only to come back about three minutes later and seated us.We sat, sat, sat with zero employee interaction. There were a few other employees that paid zero attention to us as one of the few people in the venue. After about 10 minutes, I got up to hunt someone down. The gentleman who seated us was talking on his cell phone around the corner. He briefly looked, graciously stopped his conversation and then stated the lady will be with us momentarily. Not sure who the lady was, as never saw anyone who even looked like a server. After a few more minutes waiting, we left. This place had such potential with all the oysters in the window just staring at me and a good selection of beers too. But whats the point when there is no one to service the paying guest? We were a hungry and thirsty group of travelers that spent over $300 at our next stop. Easy to see why the place was empty...not sure how it is even open.Good luck.
Spent 5 days in Portland and on the last day decided we wanted oysters and seafood. We chose this place based on reviews but should have paid attention to the years they were posted. This was LITERALLY the WORST food and lack of customer service we had on vacation!! We arrived before 8pm and we’re seated back in the kitchen area at a table that was full of water and left over crumbs. The waitress came with menus and was trying to put them down when I had to ask her if she could clean our table. We started with Parmesan fries and 1/2 dozen oysters for appetizers. We got cold fries and oysters so tiny I barely recognized them. One was literally the size of a dime and cost $18.00. For the entrees we ordered fried prawn platter; fried Cod platter; fish tacos; seafood sautée platter and my son asked for a tillamook cheeseburger with meat, cheese and thousand island dressing only. We heard the cooks complain about receiving food orders right before closing time (9pm) and their personal conversations the whole time we were there. The food was unimpressive and my son received his burger fully loaded with lettuce and tomato’s and begged me not to complain as he pulled everything off his bun. The waiter never came and refilled my kids soda the entire time we sat there. If I’m ever in Portland again, you can best believe we will not eat here. Definitely NOT WORTH the $140.00 tab. Never Again! Not impressed.
Keone and Michelle were extremely accommodating and did everything in their power to make sure our group had a great time and very enjoyable dinner. Cannot recommend this place enough for the service, plus the oysters and chowder were amazing!
Terrible service! It wasnt very busy, 3 inside tables and maybe six outside tables on a Saturday around 6:30 and the servers were running around in a panic like it was busy. We were sitting in the bar side and every table had the wrong food brought to it ( we had this happen three times before we even got our appetizers) and I had to get up and go to the bar just to get refills on our draft! We told our server we were splitting the entrée and not only did we have to ask for plates, but also silverware and napkins! The food was only Meh. . . Go to Jakes, much better food and the service is always impeccable.
Sad. Really sorry but we walked in, caught a whiff and almost walked out. We skipped the food, had a cocktail and even that was subpar. It looks like it depends on the tourist traffic, but I suspect even that wont keep this plane afloat. All this being said, very friendly and gracious staff, no pretentions which I appreciate and elevated this from 1 star.
Great food, awesome staff! The best family run place in town. Glad they survived the shutdowns!!!!!
Prices were reasonable. Food was OK. Staff was great.
Amazing food and great service, best looking bar in Portland
Excellent cocktails, fresh oysters and some good fish tacos
Always a good variety of fresh oysters
Great clam chowder and fish tacos!
Delicious happy hour! Yummy oysters!!!
Good oyster stew and fish tacos.
Great oysters and service, unbelievable salmon chowder.
Wonderful food, attentive service, good prices. Fresh Kumamoto oysters too! Good wine and beer selection. Sourdough bread the best I’ve had in a long time. Went there for lunch, and may very well return for dinner. We had the oysters on the half shell and clam chowder made just right... lots of clams and not overloaded with potatoes. Don’t miss this Gem!
I was here 3 years ago and long to go back as soon as possible! The best soups I’ve ever eaten, the clam chowder is hands down the best ever and to die for. We had the best 4 days there and I visited everyday and had your soup ... can’t wait to visit again. Thanks for the hospitality & amazing food and service, I will be back as I often dream of your amazing clam chowder and would love to find a recipe that can even come close...Gjetta frim Springfield Mo❤️
We stopped in here for a late lunch. The server was very helpful with helping us make the right choices on the freashest seafood. They had an item in the menu for a beer and a shot, which started our trip in Portland off right. I recommend stopping in even if just for a beer and a shot and some oysters.
This place makes me miss Portland ready!
One of the very best restaurants in Portland. Outstanding food and outstanding service. It’s my first stop whenever I get to Portland The owners are great people! I wish them all well. Can’t wait to get out to Portland again to go dine there!!
