Went here around 8pm on a weekday. There was line and it moved quickly. The staff were friendly and polite. There is street parking, but on a busy day it might be hard to find parking. The icecream was delicious. We got the 1. Chocolate Gooey Brownie (5/5) its a must if you like chocolate and brownie. 2. Sea salt with caramel ribbon (5/5), its a bit on the salty end, but I liked it a lot. The scoops are big enough.
Perfect place for you sweet tooth cravings. I visited this place around 10 pm and it was lively. They have loads of amazing ice cream flavors to offer. We tried their Honey Lavender and Lassi with raspberries flavor. Lassi with raspberries is my personal favorite. We loved it so much that got a pint for our home as well. Definitely recommend this place!
I love this place 🥰 There is always a long line here so make sure you give yourself extra time. If your on a rush, the best time to go in is right at opening. They usually let you try as many flavors as you want but with Covid procedures they temporarily stopped. Still very good ice cream and the seasonal flavors are always fun!
Salt and Straw has hands down the best customer service. I’ve been to them twice and each time I’ve never felt rushed once I’m up to the counter to try out new flavors. They seem like they’re busy all the time but they make you feel like it’s your own experience once it’s your turn. The fall flavors right now are fun! I ended up getting the Maple & Bacon Streusel and it was SO good. I was surprised - it tasted like a maple bacon doughnut in ice cream form (if you like that sort of thing) - anyway they also seem to offer some gluten free and vegan options. A definite must - worth the wait if there’s a line!
Must try their caramelized turkey and cranberry sauce ice cream! It sounds weird but is amazing!
This place definitely lived up to the hype for me. The honey lavender is sweet and refreshing. It does a great job walking the tightrope between the natural floral and bitterness of lavender to land on a light and wonderful scoop of ice cream with more to it than the sweetness you get in a lot of ice creams. The mushroom muddy buddy walked that line really well too. Mushroom worked much better than I expected in a sweet dish and offered a slight earthy science to the chocolate. It was such a neat flavor! This place does a great job at creating flavors with depth. It would not be the first place I would take kids, but its a no brainer for anyone who can appreciate a unique and well crafted experience.
Delicious ice cream and the waffle cone is top notch. The olive oil has a good vanilla ish flavor but a weird very butter like after taste. The maple bacon had a good flavor but very very sweet. Ended up with the fudge cookie dough and was super good.
Their icecream is some of the best around! They have traditional flavors, but also some really unique pairings that are absolutely delicious. I absolutely recommend it!
Coming from the home of Jenis Fine Ice Cream, a similar upscale hit ice cream parlor, Salt & Straw does it all better. Less pretentious, more generous servings, more robust flavors. I was very impressed with how quickly they were able to move a large line through the store without any sense of chaos. All around excellent experience!
Best ice cream I have ever had. Super long line on a Tuesday night ... but for good reason. Worth the wait. Staff was super friendly and awesome. There was a staff member that hyped uo every flavor. She said she would give her life for the birthday cake flavor rightfully so. Brownie ice cream has chunks. Waffles cones are made there in a waffle making. Very cute little shop.
This place has such unique flavors, but as odd as they sound I’ve never had one I didn’t like. The salted caramel ribbon is my favorite, but it’s pretty safe. We had the strawberry and coconut water sherbet tonight and it was amazing. The coconut flavor packs a punch at the end. It’s pretty impressive. This place is our favorite place to visit when we go to Portland.
Friendly staff, good ice cream, buggitos was good, lavender licorice was awesome.
Surprisingly disappointing. I had high expectations, which maybe set me up for failure. Its berry month, so I ordered the berry slab pie. I couldnt taste any berry flavor. It was basically just really good vanilla ice cream with some pie crust chunks. It was tasty, but I was expecting more, especially for $5.50. I can get really good vanilla ice cream somewhere else for less.
Ordered and scooped in front of me. Fast, easy, taste good. They got vegan options if that more your speed as well. Probably will come back again
The vegan strawberry ice cream has a coconut base, I always taste only coconut. Such a waste of the other flavors. It looks like strawberry. But taste only of coconut. Severe disappointment
Kids and I loved this spot! Very rich ice cream with generous servings. The staff was friendly & very fast. Favorite was the small taster I was given of the pear and blue cheese- fresh tasting and delicious!
I want to so badly give this place 5 stars because the ice cream was phenomenal. However, the ONLY reason I am giving 4 stars is because of the lack of seating. We went for the first time and it was so cold outside but since there is so little sesting Id say about 10 people were eating outside. The girl helping us made me feel totally welcome and had suggestions for flavors to try. The cones are fresh and absolutely delicious. Every flavor is so refreshing to generic flavors.
Delicious ice cream, as always. They arent doing samples right now (covid) but will put a sample size bit on top of your order so you can still taste another flavor. Theyre non-dairy flavors have a great texture that is hard to find in that kind of frozen treat.
Spectacular ice cream (and cones) that live up to the hype. If you can get here when it’s not busy, this place is pure delight. However, on weekends etc the lines are serious, so check on Google first. Selection of standard and changing special flavors will ensure that you don’t get bored no matter how many times you come back.
Fantastic place to grab some delicious and local ice cream. Plenty of flavors to choose from, our favorite being almond brittle, lavender, olive oil, and coffee along with many more. They also offer a seasonal flavors available only for a month. I suggest coming in the early part of the day if you wish to skip the long lines (especially in the summer, easily 30-60min wait in the summer). You also have an option to grab a pint out of the fridge and go to the front on the check-out line and skip the wait 😋😉
Yummmmm!!! Everything was so good. They are actually doing samples again 😁 Also their scoops are huge!!! 🤩 There was no line at 5 on Friday. Usually its around the corner.
If you are an ice cream lover then this is the place for you. From the regular flavors to unique all of them are great and worth a taste.I personally think this is the best salted caramel ice cream Ive had.
I came here on a weekend night for dessert, and I got a single scoop with half jasmine milk tea & chocolate and chocolate gooey brownie. The flavors were great but the ice cream melted quickly. The milk tea had a clear flavor but it couldve been more flavorful, while the chocolate brownie was very strongly chocolate flavored and there was plenty of brownie bits in it. I really enjoyed the brownie one (and I thankfully got the chocolate brownie scoop on the bottom because otherwise, it wouldve overpowered the milk tea flavor). $5.65 is pretty pricey for a single scoop (added $.15 for split scoop...), but alright every once in a while I guess.
If you havent tried it you will love it. If you love it you will be back. Trust me it is worth it.
Really good ice cream with lots of flavors. Their chocolate cone left something to be desired but the ice cream was tops
I like Salt and Straw. Salt is good on a bunch of foods, and straws are useful if you have braces. This place seems to have neither, which is really weird. But they have ice cream, and in some interesting flavors. They seem to look around the kitchen and say, no one has had that in ice cream before. Lets try it. And so they do. Your spice cabinet is not safe. Nor is your pantry. Meat ice cream? They have that. It is all...interesting.And whats wrong with vanilla, anyway?
Ice cream is good. Carmel was amazing. Very eclectic flavors.
If your looking for fun flavors, great energy & good times Salt & Straw has quickly become one of my favorite places in Portland. With that, I couldnt let another day go by without acknowledging the team working at the Alberta location on 5/11/2020. I was blown away by the level of kindness & professionalism. Thank you for for making my quarentined birthday an unforgettable one!
Love this place! Family comes once a month for the new flavors. #bringcouvethestraw
If you are open to weird ice cream flavours, then this might be the place for you. They have pear & blue cheese flavour and other interesting flavour. However, I personally think the taste is not very good. I tried roasted peach & sage cornbread stuffing, it is way too sweet. Waffle itself is not the best I had before.
Good ice cream as always though BRING BACK THE SNICKER DOODLE 💯 Best ice cream y’all had and super bummed last 2 times Ive went its not available. Im sure others can VOUCH. 🤙🏼
Anytime you visit Portland you gotta check out slay and straw! With all the amazing different flavors, a creamy flavor on most of them with a quality ice cream you won’t forget this place is the place to check out. I bring all my friends and business partners here when I visit. Atmosphere is fun and there is a reason why they are always busy!
Dont shut away from traditional flavors you dont recognize together. The pear and blue cheese is magnificent, honey lavender fantastic, and anything with caramel is amazing. The quality of the ice cream is really good. For some this will be a two lactaid pill night.
Absolutely love this place! The atmosphere is always so friendly and upbeat. Im a classic vanilla guy, but I like trying the new flavors too. Shoutout to Amanda and Natalie who are the most amazing and friendly.
One of my favorite places in Portland! Staff is always cheerful and have a great love for ice cream! Flavors are always on point, samples are handled out generously and such a quant little shop with that great PNW vibe. There are local products and company merchandise for sale. They do sale I believe was pints of ice cream or maybe quarts of ice cream in the freezer section.. Either way ice cream to go!! Street parking only. Thanks for being such a sustainable company and thanks staff for being part of our ice cream experience handing out warm smiles as well!!
Just plain amazing. Highly recommend. The flavors are very original and taste amazing. They have flavors that I would never have thought would be in ice cream, but they are delicious. Try sampling. They welcome it and it will help you figure out what is your bat choice. And try things that you otherwise would not have tried. Again, this has got to be one of the best ice cream shops I’ve ever tried.
Coconut water strawberry sherbet aint noting better . No dairys and I dont feel bad if I eat the whole pint.
All I have to say is YUMMY and well worth going. Very unique and flavorfull ice creams
I reviewed another salt and straw nearby in Portland and both of them were the exact same thing in terms of being really really good. Theres nothing really worth noting in the review other than they have wacky flavors good portions and friendly service.
My daughter introduced me to Salt & Straw. It is delicious ice cream (skip the VooDoo doughnuts and go here instead). It is expensive ice cream but plentiful helpings and the taste make it worth going. Every time I am up in that area taking people to the airport or something else, I try to go.
Lavender in a waffle cone please!!!Great ice cream place! The smell of heaven when you first walking in!!! Trust me!
No one has a more impressive or creative selection of unique flavors than Salt and Straw!
Line was a bit long but worth the wait. I got the split scoop which was more than enough. It wasnt exactly split 50/50 (the first half fills the waffle cone more) so I kind of wish I got to pick which flavor goes in first. Not a big deal though as both flavors I got were good (coffee and pancake/bacon).
Excellent ice cream! Fast friendly service, unique flavors, worth the stop if you are in the area! :)
I dont know if Ive done a review about this one before but I will do it again although I dont think it needs it. Salt & Straw is amazing nothing more. A lot of delicious flavors and seasonal ones that are to die for. Always packed, always great attention and always leaving with a smile. Bit high priced tho but no hard feelings.
The dairy free/vegan strawberry coconut water sherbet is amazing!
Literally the best mint chocolate chip ice cream ever had and it’s VEGAN! I’m so impressed with this place, the waffle cones are so fresh too, and the service was great!! The goosebump ice cream tasted like a mango Indian kulfi and it was very unique! Definitely branch out and try something new here it’s amazing.
$14 for two single scoops of ice cream!? They were okay ice creams, but for that price, Im not running back. Also, fruit flavors are only available in pints? Lots of hype, but not very imaginative.
Maybe its because ice cream makes everyone happy but the staff here is excellent and the ice cream superb. Worth waiting in the quick moving line.
One of my favorite ice cream shops in the US! This ice cream doesn’t just rank up against the best in Oregon. It’s hard to pick one as my most favorite but this shop is easily in the category of elite ice cream. Obscure flavors like olive oil, praline cold brew, bleu cheese pear as well as countless other seasonal exclusives will absolutely blow you away. Best dessert, friendliest staff and one of the most innovative culinary experiences to hit one of the best foodie scenes. Enjoy and take home a pint for later!
Yummy pear and blue cheese flavor.
Delicious as always, wasn’t too busy but they had the line moving at a good pace, I only wish I could try a few flavors to see if I wanted anything else. Hopefully that’ll change back to normal again soon!
Excellent ice cream with unique flavors. Super friendly & quick service.
The flavors are rly rly strong but their combinations are definitely strange lol
I scream... you scream... it gets awkward so try their ice cream and enjoy it. We did.
Unique flavors you would never think existed as ice cream flavors like pear and blue cheese... but oh so good. You can sample as many flavors as you like before purchasing. I love all their flavors but my favorite is honey lavender always get one scoop of this and another scoop of a flavor I have not tried.
Best ice-cream in town hands down. My favorites are Double Fold Vanilla and Honey Lavender.Wish they sold container bigger than a pint. Lol
A great place to stop by for the ice cream! salt & straw is really popular and is always crowded so plan ahead to come get those cones & cups. Id recommend coming here rather than the outlet in downtown just because there are fewer people. They have some Halloween specials going on right now which are definitely worth a try!
Unreal. Who would give this less than 5 stars?
They are good, with EXCELLENT service, but wish they would have more than just a couple flavors.
Great flavor combinations and even better customer service
Must try seasonal flavors and waffle cone! Dont be discouraged by the line, it moves quickly
Delicious Mango Habanero Sorbet!
They let us taste a bunch of different flavors. Very fun and inventive tastes. Everything i tried was very creamy and good. I settled on a snickerdoodle milkshake. Overall a cool spot, they make all their ice cream in small batches. Prices were moderate and the store was very nice and clean with some cool local gift type stuff.
The best thing is they have pints and you can buy waffle cones to go so then you can eat them at home.
Interesting flavorsMask crazy, made you go outside to sample a flavorHigh prices
Great unique ice cream locally made and served by friendly and helpful scoopers. Vegan options made with coconut milk are even better than the real stuff.About $4 for one giant scoop, $6 for two, and $9 for flight of four. $1 for extras like waffle cone, whipped cream, etc. Various sundaes also available, but the flavors are where its at!
Truly the best ice cream Ive had.
The creepy crawly critters was really good! The chocolate and toffee complimented and paired well with the savory flavor and satisfying crunch of crickets and mealworms, and the matcha base was mild and sweet.Limited time Halloween ice cream treat went really well and I recommend it before it leaves on Friday the 25th (Im told it returns yearly however!)
Such an excellent place to grab a frozen dessert! Uniquely creamy with quite a few unique flavors to try out, and theyre generous with samples. Their olive oil ice cream is one of the best things Ive ever tasted, and I cant get anything comparable anywhere else. I also love their cookie dough flavor, as it has a great salty twist to it, making it less sweet than the regular. Theyre worth all the hype they get and theyre definitely something to try out if you havent before.
Delicious! Parking can be a nightmare and so can the line. But when we went (at 5pm on a Saturday) we were able to get in fairly quickly and the line wasnt out the door yet (but it definitely was when we left). The brownie ice cream is delicious as is the snickerdoodle! I didnt like the salted caramel (way too salty) but their waffle comes are amazing too!
Delicious gourmet ice-cream. And conveniently stays open late :)
The service was amazing and for my first time there I got the Sea Salt Carmel and it was too good
COVID protocols are being enforced as far as masks and social distancing. There are NO samples right now and Im honestly surprised that anyone would think there was.I love that there is a Vegandulgence menu with so many vegan options right now. There are usually a couple flavors that are vegan but this menu is exciting! I tried the Hazelnut Chocolate Cookies and Cream and its definitely indulgent. For my taste, it was FAR too sweet. But my husband, who doesnt like chocolate (I know so incredibly bizarre!!!) LOVED this flavor. I also got a scoop of the Bourbon Honeycomb. This. Rocked. My world. Im extremely particular about texture in my food and I LOVE the crispy crunch that the honeycomb brings to the ice cream. I will absolutely go back for this flavor and Ill cry when its gone for good.Cant say much about service as the staff is pretty quick and just trying to move people in and out quickly while observing social distancing and proper food handling. They did their job well. I may be back soon for more Bourbon Honeycomb. It was delicious!
This place can be busy, but dont fret, the line moves quick. The employees were all very friendly and rather than waiting for you to be the next at the counter, they will come out to you and offer samples. They encourage you to sample everything. I just wish I could have had a cone of every flavor. We enjoyed the Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache and a one of the special flavors for July - Meyer Lemon Buttermilk with Blueberries. An incredible flavor combo.
