This place was great. I explained to the waitress that I have extensive dietary restrictions due to allergies, and she helped me pick a meal that would be yummy but not cause me to get hives. She was attentive but not too much. The food is very healthy. I don’t get out much due to anxiety, but this place is the perfect amount of busy to feel social but not overcrowded. Would definitely go again.
A fun place to eat for the whole family. Plenty of nerdy toys and memorabilia for you and your kind to enjoy. They have a handful of games for you and your family to play with. There is also a small play area in the front that kids can play at.Unfortunately they were blaring The Doors the whole time which got old after about 10 min. The play area for the kids is right next to the front door and buried behind tables. This makes keeping an eye on little ones tough and nerve racking.
Fun theme bar in the popular SE Belmont area. The highlights are the location, decor, the toys used to decorate the space and the clever cocktail names and descriptions. The effort and execution of the design and style of the place really allowed me to forgive a number of shortcomings. The cocktails themselves dont live up to their price ($8-12) compared to what you could find at other options in the area. They have a few draught beers but a robust selection of bottles and cans. Free Wi-Fi is great as the place almost screams to be captured and uploaded. We only had starters, and they were fine.I would recommend starting here before heading out to the nearby Wunderland Theater or other geek-centric activities.
Great place for food, fun decor. But not necessarily a great place to hangout and play board games or really read comics exactly - even though there are free ones available. So its not like a nerd cafe but still a good place. Maybe more in the early afternoon it would be a fine place to play games with friends.
The atmosphere and staff were great! Individual menu items were hit or miss on the flavors. The baked Brussels sprouts, the burgers, the garden salad - very tasty. The steak skewer was bland. Lots of board games to choose from and we spent another 45 minutes playing. Recommended!
Food was decent, drinks were okay, but the owner and bartender were always rude. On my last visit with friends, the owner turned the music up full blast while my group and I were playing cards against humanity. They were usually dead (one person might stop by? ) and had very little business every time we visited. Its not like we were disturbing anyone. The point of this place was to have fun and enjoy your visit, right? They had board games for guests to play for crying out loud! Hopefully it is closed and never reopens.
This is the best place to go for a cozy night out. I went by myself and it wasn’t uncomfortable! The staff was very sweet and the food was to die for! I highly recommend the Cali Burger! I have absolutely no bad feelings towards this place! Thanks Mitch and crew for being awesome!
I was geeking out so hard over all the decor and memorabilia as soon as I walked in the door. However, the food options werent so great. It was a very small menu and nothing sounded very appetizing. The drinks sounded amazing (all with different nerdy names) but unfortunately I was driving so I didnt get to try any. I would love to come back just for drinks someday!
My wife and I were looking to get out on a weekend evening and stopped in at the Nerd Out for a bite. Just amazing! Great atmosphere, fun games - We finally got to try Cards against Humanity! I found one of my favorite comics in the free box and took/posted a couple pix. They almost insisted I take it! I left it for everyone else to discover (Man of Steel 1). Thanks Nerd Out!
The food was great, drinks were strong and delicious (and all had great names). The art is really fun, from the walls to the tabletops. There are charging stations for phones, etc. The staff was amazing, too! We met Hannah and Kayla, and they were really helpful and friendly. Fine dining meets sci-fi fantasy. A+. Definitely going again.
A bar which understands! The Nerd Out might not have the most comfortable seats in the world, but it is the most geek-friendly watering hole in town. The owner and staff know their customers. The food is excellent. The drinks are imaginative. The decor is comics and action figures. They even do events to encourage kids to read.
This is one of the most amazing places in Portland. The food reminds me of growing up with an adult twist. The cider float was on point! I cannot recommend this establishment enough if you want some good food and a few games with friends!
We stopped in on a bar crawl while visiting the area. Great atmosphere and a variety of good cocktails. A fun place to stop and grab a drink.
This place is amazing! Delicious food and drinks in an exceptionally cool and unique environment.I loved everything about it. The staff were awesome and they happily worked with our groups vegetarian and gluten-free needs. I highly recommend...you wont be disappointed!
A must for nerds, geeks or just comic book fans this is thier bar. I loved the decorations and the crowd. The parking is not so bad either. I just with it were a larger bar.
Took my friend Neal Adams to The Nerd Out. Excellent food. A place that knows how bring big flavor out just a few ingredients. If your a geek like me...youll probably enjoy this place.
From the moment we walked in, it was easy to tell that a lot of thought and effort had gone into the creation of this adorable bar. Comic book pages cover the walls, tables and bar-top, and many stylized paintings and special collectibles decorate the shelves. The menu is easy to follow, and has fairly typical (and delicious) bar fare. On the drink menu are several special cocktails named after some nerd favorites, including Dr Who, Spider-Man, Star Wars, etc. Our server was quick and attentive, as well as funny and knowledgeable regarding the menu. All in all, The Nerd Out is a well put together bar, and at a glance, operates like a well oiled machine, which is impressive considering that they opened two weeks ago. This place is definitely somewhere we will be returning to with our friends!
Great drinks and food, quirky ambience. They have board games you can play, gets a little out in the evening. Parking was awful.
We love this place!! Matt is awesome, perfect addition to this cool, nerdy spot!! Awesome drinks, great food. The decor is the best, literally you could sit there for hours and not see everything!!
Sadly, this place closed in MAY yet Google Maps is still saying it is temporarily closed. It is PERMANENTLY CLOSED. There are many articles online to back this fact up.
Fun atmosphere. Food is always great! Love the events they put on.
Awesome bar and restaurant establishment! The comic booked theme is cool! Even the Cocktail drink names are funny and witty. Prices are very reasonable and even then drinks were strong. The food was to die for!
We had a really great family lunch here on a nice Sunday. For starters the place is awesome. Im not into comic books or games but I appreciated the theme. Everything seems covered in comic book covers. All sorts of comic book characters throughout. Lots of artwork and posters. Just a fun place the way it was decorated.Food was good. Among the 8 of us we had a mix of burgers, mac and cheese, salads, and chicken skewers. I had the pork belly sandwich and no complaints from me. Everyone else was happy with their food as well.We were there on a Sunday and we were the only ones there. I asked if that was normal and sounds that Sundays are pretty slow for them. If you can go on a Sunday Id suggest that. We had no wait and the place basically to ourselves. There appeared to be a full bar that was well stocked. We didnt drink anything but looked good.Overall Id easily recommend this place to anyone. Perfect for taking the kids and family.
Rad. This place is just cool. The staff have an awesome vibe. The cocktails are on point. Food is legit. Limited options but its a small kitchen so whatever. Very good food. Be prepared to level up after hanging here.
All of the action figures and just everything in this place is awesome!! We loved their novelty drinks and spuds!
Great atmosphere! Lackluster service, weird menu, undercooked hamburger and half raw chicken. Ordered a Black Widow cocktail for 9 bucks, supposed to be; charcoal Vodka and cranberry, tasted like a glass full of gritty defrosted freezer ice. Also had the George Romero drink, which was tasty but not worth the ten bucks.Had to try it once, would not return or reccomend.
Tiny menu, but the food is delicious!!! The deviled eggs are epic, and the beet salad made me get over them not having fries. The decor is epic, nothing to rival them in Portland. Plus they have a comic book lending library to the left of the front door. I found Swamp Thing floating around which brought back good memories. The staff is super helpful, and the bartender goes ALL OUT!! The Romero will knock you off your feet, beware!
So Ive walked past this spot many times in a rush to go somewhere only to realize that this is where I was meant to be all along. Met a buddy here and talked about comics, movies, possible story arcs. I found a new home base bar!
The Nerd Out fills a gaping void in Portland’s night life: in a sea of sports and hipster bars, The Nerd Out is a great place to be a nerd— pop culture toys and artifacts are on display everywhere, the walls and tables are covered in comic book pages and covers, and the music is is perfect. The menu offers relatively simple fare (I recommend the street tacos; they were perfect!) and the drinks menu is brilliant. You’ll find drinks like “Toxic Avenger,” “The Adam West,” and the “Invader Zim” among many others. Come for the drinks, grab some food, and enjoy hanging in the awesome bar we all wish we had in our basement. On a final note, the staff and owner were friendly and attentive.
Been here on 2 occasions from seeing the Facebook events and we really enjoyed our visits. Great food and ambiance, and solid bar selection. Good for a small family meal, and I even got some after going there for a date night, so thumbs up from me. I do think they need to get better lighting, and some space adjustments with seating would be perfect.
This place is amazing. There is so much thought into everything from the light fixtures to the menu options. It was a super friendly atmosphere. I will be recommending this place, and I will be back if Im ever in the neighborhood.
The food was decent, but the drinks were great. Very crowded because of an event happening but didnt wait too long.
I love coming here with friends! This is THE spot to be if youre wanting fandom fun in a laid back atmosphere. Food, drink, and prices are all great!
My wife and I went to check out the newest neighborhood pub. The decor was interesting and we liked the theme. The menu though was lacking. In fact, there wasnt anything we found appealing and we left, thanking the server but explaining why we were leaving. I dont think well go back unless theres an update to the menu offerings.
Absolutely love this place. The food is fantastic! Would highly recommend their street tacos. And the staff is super friendly.
If you like comics this is the place for you. They have complimentary comics to read. As well as cheap beers. I love the atmosphere with the pages of comics wallpapered on the wall. Did not eat here but will try it out next time!!
Great decor but unsavory food and way overpriced for the portions. Plenty of sitting room on a peak hour on Saturday night....mmmh? Its a shame that they have put so much work into the places theme and have overlooked the most important element of a restaurant... FOOD! $15 for (literally and not exaggerating) a cup of minestrone they call Vegetable Stew I try to send it back and the owner generously added another scoop to the preexisting cup of soup and reminded me not to expect for this to happen the next time. That is their portion. Period. My friends burger was dry overcooked grizzle. I really wanted it to be good. It wasnt. Will not go back and if you want to really really try it dont order the above mentioned including the few small pieces of grilled cauliflower for $9, you will leave hungry, and more poor. Sorry Nerd Out, you are not a good dining experience.
I Love this place. Drinks are strong and service is friendly and fast. The visuals and artwork are fun and reminds me of all things good in my teenage years.
Very nice employees, a fun unique place to go. The food was delicious and they had a wide variety of alcohol. They have a small play area with a collection of action figures and comic books. And Unicorn Kisses Seltzer, so you really cant go wrong.
Great atmosphere, loved all the action figures everywhere. Reminded me of times when I was a kid. Brought back fond memories.Had the spinach dip. I liked the garlic bread served with it with the French bowl and the California burger, was delicious!
A quirky little bar and restaurant fool of comics all over the walls. The staff is super friendly and I highly recommend their Cali burger. They make their pickles homemade. My only complaint is that it gets warm in there.
Kind of a cool place if youre really into star ward action figures. The potatoes are very good.
I randomly discovered this place with some friends. We each got something to eat and one if their fun cocktails. Everything tasted high quality and the service was amazing.
This place is a serious meh. Theyre trying really hard for the pop culture thing. But the vibe isnt so cozy, and the lighting is weird. The themed menu is kind of fun. I walked into a Big Lebowski watch one night, that was pretty cool, but then also just bizarrely quiet because almost everyone there were just sitting by themselves and watching. I would love to see more engaging/more engaged watch nights. Nice to see theyve changed the menu and now have one vegan option; though not a single item on the kids menu is vegan. My kids would enjoy going here, but theres nothing for them to eat. Id like to give this place the benefit of the doubt as they work out the kinks. Well see.
Theming is fun but they dont really commit and its sort of all over the place between comics, star wars and random stuff. List of nerd named drinks but the food is just what it is. No interesting names or even really interesting food. Standard fare thats good but nothing special. Went for industry night hoping for some type of networking event but just a standard night really. Tough to do much else in the small space they have but there could be something.
Loved the ambiance! Staff was helpful and ooening, food was decent. Would definitely go back with a group of friends to eat and hang out
A great place to relax and let your geek flag fly! Could spend hours just looking at all the cool collectibles
Was there for the Squak Rawk release party. Owner and tenders were great. The place is an homage to everything Ive loved growing up. Brilliant!
Great & friendly staff. And a fun, easy atmosphere with enticing food and plenty of things to look at. I will definitely come again!
This place rocks! Visit if you havent. They do love night Wednesdays, they have a box of comics up front. All kinds of nerdy cool.
Love this place! The food, the atmosphere and service are all so good, the drinks innovative and fun. Can’t recommend it enough!
The food was great and the staff was even better! We lived the comics and the attention to detail! Great place all around!
Great selection of drinks at good prices and their snacks are tasty. That being said, if youre even the slightest bit nerdy, youll find something to love here on top of what youd expect from any good bar. 🤓Ill be back!
Mitch is awesome. Great place, good food and affordable. Definitely a place to check out when youre in town.
Star Trek, Star Wars, all the comic books, Stranger Things, and more. Bar is covered with fun stuff! Oh, and the beer/food is good too!
Friendly staff, the food was good, the drinks were good. And youre surrounded by nerd paraphernalia. Whats not to love?!
Food was ok. Drinks were good. Lots to look at. Worth going to once
Ok food, slow service, awesome atmosphere
If you have ever enjoyed comics, read a comic book, if you know how to spell comic book, you need to be here. Not just once, but frequently! This place has the most awesome atmosphere! The decorations, the walls, the furniture, even the light fixtures! The Nerd Out isnt just a bar, it isnt just a hang out, it is a total experience...even the bathroom will have you saying whoah! The drinks have fun names, the menu is filled with originality, not your average bar food, but oh so good! There is often something going on here, from trivia to costume contests, movie nights, all sorts of events.Ive gushed about this place and havent even gotten to the outstanding service. The staff are all friendly and fun and just overall stellar people.Seriously, if you havent been here yet, why not? Stop reading this and go....now.....like, right now. I mean it, stop reading and go.(Youre still reading, just go already)
Several months ago we visited and it was awesome. Good food, good atmosphere, cosplay, and movies. We went again tonight and found a menu that was lackluster, overpriced and bland. The drinks were awesome still but who pays 2 dollars for a sprinkle of bacon? Shame.
The moment you appeal to nerds, you get a dedicated fanbase. The NerdOut is no different. The walls and counters are covered with comics. Staff seem to have a good grasp of nerd trivia and are very friendly.I think they really need to have some nerd trivia nights or other such events.
A sanctuary for nerds. You are surrounded by comics, acceptance, and action figures. Great place. Great people.
The drinks are amazing and the staff even more so!
Good food, fun place. A little dark inside.
GREAT place to nerd out!!! Brings me back to my child hood. Frendly staff prompt service. All around AWESOME PLACE!!!
Super cool decor. Attentive staff. Prices are pretty steep though.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff. They even looked like they were enjoying themselves despite the a/c not working on a 93 degree day.
Service and food were great! Super cute place.
Perfect spot nerding out with a drink and some eats.
What I loved: The atmosphere. Comic book pages splayed on the walls. Nerdy art galore. What I liked: The food was generally pretty good, though the brussel sprout dish was a little greasy. What was okay: The drinks were alright, though the cold brew-based drink was pretty weak. What I didnt like: The prices. For what was paid, I didnt feel like we got the value out of it. The service was nice, and nothing was particularly wrong, it just didnt wow for the buck. Ill prolly give the place another chance though, and I like the idea.
Was at May the 4th, and a lot of fun. Also really amazing appetizers!
Honestly I feel like people only come here for the ability to say they do. Wait staff kind of sucks, drinks are insanely overpriced and poorly made, food has been terrible every time and very pricey. Glasses on the tables are usually dirty. I liked the decor. Thats it.
The drinks were good. Go for the drinks. If you must eat something then get the potatoes. Everything else was overpriced or tiny portions.
Amazing people who are nice and friendly who will talk about anything with you. Get drinks and food options. One of my favorite bars.
Great atmosphere, family friendly and cosplay encouraged.
What a fun place to visit. I could spend hours just reading the walls!
Great decor, good food, decent drink list. Good service too. Wouldnt mind a couple more games in house to play.
If Comic-Con ever opened a bar/restaurant, it would be this place. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and fun customers. Plus they have a movie and have cosplay night (which is great to test out your new cosplay before con). Non nerds are welcome as well.
Awesome spot for nerds of all types to hang out. Amazing art on the walls.
Great atmosphere, with comics panels lining the walls; great drinks and food, too! Nice offbeat place to meet up
This is THE spot to be if youre wanting fandom fun in a laid back atmosphere. Food, drink, and prices are all grea
Incredibly friendly and welcome staff. Great drinks and fun atmosphere.
Excellent customer service, fun staff. Atmosphere was cool, the table tops are plastered with comic book cut outs and action figures and other nerdy items all over.
Cool place, fun drinks. Nerdy crowd!
Awesome atmosphere and great food
I absolutely LOVE the Nerd Out. Such a wonderful place to enjoy quality drinks and be surrounded by nerdy goodness. Super inclusive and the staff is super awesome.
Amazing staff, and great food! Fun place to hang out in this neighborhood and take in the nerdity.
A super cool nerdy place to get food or a drink. They also do alot of fun events like trivia or cosplay nights. Ive gone twice now and everytime they are friendly. The last time I went there were super busy and it took a super long time to get drinks and food. So they gave us some dessert as an apology!
The food was soooo good and my kids loved playing worth the action figures. Decor and vibe is fun ! Come check it out
Terrible food choices and overpriced drinks. Love the restaurant itself not the choices of food or drinks they had
