Great coffee but the shop vibe is a buzz kill. Standing in the cold on the corner of a busy road repeating yourself to a disembodied voice. I understand safety but not letting anyone through the door is more paranoia than caution; we can read signs to self limit occupancy, make space, wear masks, etc. we’ve been in this together for almost 2 years now; it’s safe to look at each other ;)Thankfully the staff makes up for the strange vibe, the coffee is so good I’ll keep buying your beans for now and fully intended to keep coming back.
Anyone who gives this place a poor review has no soul — the employees here are balancing tons of online orders on top of walk-up orders and still manage to make high quality beverages and amazing food, and they only ever have 2 people working (a pivot they made when covid began). A lot of other coffee shops in town have a specialty that they do really well, but their standard/“traditional” menu items are so-so. This seven virtues location is on point at all times with everything they make, and on the rare occasion they do make a mistake, they’re quick to correct it. The staff is so great. The absolute nicest humans. And somebody needs to give the guy with the cool hats a raise and a beer.
I moved near the Glisan location months ago and was excited to have a coffee shop nearby. When I first arrived to get coffee and a bagel I stood outside the front door awaiting someone to greet me. Sadly they use a baby monitor or some sort of speaker intercom to talk to customers and if it’s your first time there you don’t realize you need to speak to a wall to get acknowledged. When I tried to place a order at the window they told me to do it online. So I got my phone out and started ordering and the whole process took an extra 5-10 minutes. I then proceeded to wait outside for my order while talking with a friend. I waited roughly another 25-35 minutes assuming someone would either bring my order to the window or speak over the intercom to tell me it was ready but they didn’t. When I received my food and drinks they told me they didn’t have the bagel I was charged extra to upgrade to. They substituted it for a plain one without even asking me. I was fairly upset with my first experience so I didn’t return for a while. Since then I have gone back a few times and every time I feel like the service and attitude of employees is so poor. I understand that there a pandemic and people are taking precautions to protect everyone but this place isn’t worth the time or money for such poor service.
I waited 5 minutes to have my order taken by a speaker (drive through style) and the drip coffee I received was watery and without flavor. I understand covid precautions, but overall my experience here experience lacked soul and the coffee was a disappointment.
1st time trying Seven Virtues this morning. The coffee was hot and good. I think they forgot about my sandwich but once I finally got it, I found the wait worth it. There was two baristas working and they were both friendly. I just might have to make this my Saturday morning ritual.
Very good 3rd wave coffee shop. Extremely high quality. Good pastry and food for takeout. Cant wait for the actual interior of the coffee shop to open up again. Its door service for right now. This place makes the neighborhood better.
This was our first time here and we liked the experience. We noticed they had a special latte made with authentic Japanese matcha and decided to give it a go—and yes they are pretty yummy! My only request: to make sure they are about 30% hotter when served. 🍵I like that there is a fair amount of tables and furniture to enjoy your beverage and the kids book section is definitely a big plus! I would only encourage the owner to stock up on books in other languages too. They are super professional and respectful and I felt they wanted us to feel welcomed: many thanks!
Delicious drinks, the best munchies, and everyone that works here is absolutely amazing! Thank you lou and Danny for welcoming me to the neighborhood!! 🖤🖤🖤🤙🏽
Should be called 8 virtues since they don’t open til 8am.
Beautiful, velvety, rich coffee. Some is the best in town, IMO.
Talk about disappointing. Ordered at 9am, food wasnt ready until 9:50am. On top of that, our bagel sandwiches were cold and assembled poorly (literally was missing the top slice of bagel on half of my bagel sandwich, partner had toppings she didnt even order). Really nice people working there, but YIKES.
Of the seven virtues this shop is named after, none of those vitues appear to be speed or quality.Long wait, lattes had only the faintest hint of coffee. I actually looked to see if theyd forgotten to add the shot of espresso! Just tasted like warm milk.It looked so promising. Left with a cup of sadness instead of a cup sunshine, lol.I hope this was just an off day because they were friendly and the place seemed to have promise!
Great coffee, friendly service. Everyone should stop by for a treat-yourself-day and grab an iced latte to beat the heat.
Every time I come by they have a kind staff. I just moved to the area again after 18 years and I’m so happy to have this gem of a gluten free bagels and amazing sandwiches. I’m so happy you’re open to pick up by online as well as walk up. During a pandemic no less. I grew up in Laurelhurst and am so happy to have my neigh hood bakery across the street.Thank you.Megan
Good open space, lots of natural light, outlets for computer users, back area for kids to play. Folks behind counter are nice. I got a tea and they steep it for you in iron pots and serve with a small white ceramic cup, which I love. This cost $3.50, so not inexpensive, but you do get 16oz of tea. The shop is situated in a corner so if you enjoy people watching, as I do, then this is a great place for it. I didnt eat anything so I cant comment on the food but it looked pretty good, Id say solid cafe food consisting of bagels, sandwiches, salad.
Great social distancing ordering system, having an excellent medium roast Peruvian drip coffee with a moist and textural macha avocado chocolate chip muffin.
This place does everything right. I have yet to have a problem with the food or drinks. Lunch sandwiches and breakfast bagels are fantastic!!If you order a muffin be ready to have to substitute it with a different type, they go fast.
Cool little organic roaster on the corner of 60th. A busy little intersection provides good car and people watching. Excellent Coffee!! Cool ladies that work especially the Barista with the funky hair. They also serve sando bagels, pasteries and such. Only knock on the place is parking as there is very very little. I recommend parking a block over or down.
One of my top five coffee shops
Ive been here several times now most recently this past week. I got a black coffee with a cinnamon roll. They heated up the roll a little bit so it was really nice and gooey. Its a nice place to have a chat or do some work on your laptop. Check it out!
Want to love it, its in my neighborhood, the employees are nice. But just spent $4.75 on a 12 oz chai that wasnt full or hot. Kind of the last straw after many mediocre visits and lots of long waits due to understaffing and too many people doing pick-up orders:(
The people working here are some of the nicest friendliest I have ever encountered. They are fast efficient and artistic the designs on top of your cup are great and show a little extra effort on their part. The only problem and reason for 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 is I think something is wrong with their roaster. I have had coffee here 5 times now and each time the staff is amazing, but the coffee tastes a bit bitter at the finish of the sip. Like its burnt, usually when I taste that its the roasting process with the beans. Not the brewing or espresso part. At least that is what I have experienced at other coffee locations with that same bitter finish. Starbucks had that for a while to and then they changed their roasting process and I havent tasted it in a while.
I felt skeptical reading best coffee in town reviews, I went today and will say the quality of coffee exceeded my expectations. the folks working there seemed efficient and kind. Ill be back.
I love this coffee shop. Before COVID-19 I was a regular, visiting often to sit in a corner and work on my laptop.Since then I stop by get a mocha or chai latte to go.Their indoor seating is currently closed. They are doing to go orders right from their door. I love that I don’t have to go inside to order. Both the mochas and chai lattes are great, they are consistent and always good.Often when I have friends stop by, we walk up to Seven Virtues to get a coffee and then continue walking around the neighborhoods.I would highly recommend Seven Virtues.
My favorite local coffee shop! The best lavender oat milk lattes. :)
Since COVID started, they typically only have one or two people working, and still manage to balance what I assume is a crazy amount of online orders and a pretty steady volume of walk-up orders. They are the absolute nicest humans, and make the best oat milk lattes I have ever had. Idk what they do to those things, but I’ve never had one better than the lattes they make here. Breakfast food is always on point, and although I haven’t tried it yet, the lunch menu looks incredible. Today, one of the two breakfast sandwiches I ordered took a little longer than expected, so they offered me a free muffin. There’s no way I’m going to take something for free from a local business at a time like this, but they’re out here treating people how they would want to be treated, and I respect the heck out of that. 5 stars, will continue to come here at least once a week like I’ve been doing for almost a year now.
Shouts out nicks bagels in orange county california this place good too I come here whenever I come to Oregon
It seems as though every coffee shop has pretty much nailed the providing good coffee part, but so few look towards other areas of improvement. Seven Virtues is not such an establishment. The download speed of the internet provided, compared to the download speeds of other commercial establishments, is enough to warrant a 5-star rating. The coffee and service is excellent as well.
Seven Virtues is easily my favorite Portland coffee shop. I live around the corner and it’s dangerous to be this close! Honestly, what really keeps my boyfriend and I coming back is the service. They have the kindest staff. They are always trying to create the best customer experience possible. I’ve worked in the service industry and CS my entire life and it can be very difficult and exhausting. But even through covid and having to take orders through a baby monitor (LOL) they treat customers with patience, respect, and kindness. AND the guy always wearing a dope hat is the most rad person!! He always has so much energy and excitement for each customer. Precovid he had the biggest smile, I’m sure that hasn’t changed! Thanks for being the best neighborhood coffee shop!
They have good sandwiches and good coffee. and Covid conscious
Delicious coffee and friendly baristas.
Perfect cappuccino! Excellent coffee. Sorry guys....bathroom and blue sofa need some cleaning... Overall, very good
First time here and I was very impressed. Just had a latte and sat back and took in the vibe. Very good vibe!
I like these local coffee shops: good coffee, good atmosphere, good bakery, but they are civil, not really friendly. That was my experience at this coffee shop today. Not welcome, not unwelcome. Maybe I ask too much; I dont know. Ill always go back to Starbucks or Jim & Pattys-where at least Im greeted with a smile, some kind small talk and I feel welcome there.
Stopped in for breakfast on the way home to Seattle. Nice atmosphere and music. Lox bagel sandwich was delicious. Coffee was exceptional and lacked any hint of bitterness. We ended up buying a tin of their Guatemala blend since it was so good. Staff was very friendly and were able to answer my questions about their coffee. Would definitely stop in again.
For the last four years, this has been my favorite cafe. Id stop by all the time to enjoy a sandwich, drink some coffee, and enjoy the atmosphere. I moved out of town two years ago, but I always stop by whenever I visit Portland. Unfortunately, it seems that their quality of service has really gone down, lately. The person serving me seemed burdened that I would have the audacity to order anything. Sorry for bothering you with my sandwich and a cup of coffee order. I was always willing to pay higher prices because the people who worked there were super cool, had great attitudes, and made the experience worth the price. The drip coffee and sandwiches were always fantastic. I really hope that they turn this place around and bring it back to the quality it was before. I wish them the best, but they certainly dont deserve a five star rating anymore - especially at the prices theyre charging for the services provided. Their coffee is still great, its too bad the rest of the show hasnt held strong.
Seven Virtues? More like 4 and a half. Im only kidding. Great sandwiches. Everytime I have one I question why I dont do it more often.
I stopped in Seven Virtues just minutes after driving into Portland for the very first time. I needed some time to reconnoiter and get my bearings and make a plan for my first day in a new city. I was also hungry and thirsty, but just needed a snack. Seven Virtues had delicious coffee which I supplemented with a tasty raspberry muffin. That coupled with their fast and reliable wifi gave me the jump-start I needed on my visit to Portland. Thumbs up owners and polite/efficient staff!
Other than the music being way too loud (Why do coffee shops insist on constant music?) So talking with your friends is difficult. Other wise its super good food and coffee!
I visited for the first time today, and impressed with their single origin roasts and their espresso-- which was on point! The staff was helpful, and the space was clean with lots of natural light on a cloudy day.I cant give 5 stars because I havent tried anything besides the coffee on the menu, but the bagels in the case were very tempting!
Good atmosphere, and the staff is prompt, professional, and downright friendly. (If the chairs were cushioned it would be perfect in every way!)
Great coffee and bagel sandwiches. Henry Higgins boiled bagels which are some of the best in Portland. Only downside is Ive usually had to wait a good long time for my order to be finished. Would recommend as a place to hang out, there is a couch and Internet and usually really friendly staff. Youll usually see the owner around, though less since their new location opened up, and hes always willing to talk about where they get their beans and make there blends.
Best cold brew. Gluten free bagels from New Cascadia. I have never had a bad drink or meal here and the service is friendly and helpful. They reserve their sincerest kindness for their clients that need it most, but are straightforward and respectful with everyone. Its a smart business and I can only recommend Mt. Tabor Roasters as highly.
One of the rudest people I have ever experienced in a customer service setting. When asked why the shots were so watery and tasteless, “yeah, our grinder sucks.” When asked why they are serving coffee from a grinder that doesn’t work. “I can’t afford a new grinder and I’m not the owner.” I’m a frequent customer here, but the last two drinks I’ve received have been watery. I asked them what was going on, but she didn’t care. All I really want is a decaf drip coffee, but they don’t offer that so I order an Americano, but the grinder is broken, so at that point just don’t even offer decaf. Clearly this person believes decaf coffee should taste like piss. Clearly this person doesn’t care about her company, job or her patrons. Sad to see and terrible to experience. Never going back. I spend at least $30 a week here normally. I will never go back again. I wonder how many other customers she has turned away with her lack of respect.
Great drinks and food too! Lots of power outlets and a good people watching corner on the other side of nice big windows.
Good pastry. Decent drip. Wifi. What more does one require?
Very nice coffee and clean score! Internet is fast and reliable! Staff is friendly and courteous!
Awesome staff. Fast service. Really good vegan bagel. Coffee was perfect. No acidic. There is no kitchen smell there, great place to lounge on a laptop or with a good book.
They really get the details right. Great coffee, yummy bagel sandwiches (gluten free options!), and a good family space with toys and childrens books. Awesome hang out to relax in or to get a little work done.
Ive been coming here to for a cup of black coffee, a bagel and use my laptop.Coffee is delicious. Food is good too.Seating is great, with big tables. Theres nice art on the wall.WiFi is a bit spotty. Some apps work, some apps dont.
Im giving this place a 5 star for its atmosphere. Lots of seating with outlets added everywhere for convenience. Live plants scatter the room, and oddly, they play music I actually liked (rare for me).The staff was very nice, and the bagels, delicious. I would highly recommend this place for hanging out.The coffee however was more of a 3/5 though. The taste was very smooth, but mild. No really strong flavors in there of note. Ill try more and see if they gets any better, but if youre coming here solely for coffee, I think you can find better.
Great independent shop. Housemade coconut milk, syrups and sauces, plus they have my beloved Oatly. They have a good selection of gluten free food options as well as vegan cream cheese.Nice place to come and visit or work away from home for a little while.
Excellent, covid safety service....
Staff was really nice. This morning was my first time there. Idk if they were having an off day or what but I got a 20 oz iced americano and it was awful. I couldnt even drink it, it was that bad. :/
Pretty good coffee, good bagels, ok space, above average prices. But it has The Portland Attitude [yall know what I mean]. So if you like that kind of thing this is a place for you, but if it turns you off as much as I, you may not feel comfortable / welcome here.
Coffee was good, but the real winner was the atmosphere; it just feels nice being there. I needed a break from the chaos of the day, and after I found parking (little bit of a pain), I had a nice afternoon. Thanks!
The chai was the worst weve ever had, WAY too heavy on the anise, and that shouldnt even be in chai. Service was decent, but the coffee was undrinkable.
Love their coffee. Love their baked goods. Love their service! The staff are always friendly, they work urgently, and they seem to deal really well with their busy hours. The small café feel is my favorite feature, maintaining a personal experience and saving the mass-produced cookie-cutter coffee shops for the carbon copied sheeple and their dead eyes. No thank you! Ill keep to places just like this. =)
I find myself ending up here on about 50% of my workdays. Its a good place to get an hour or so of work done. I always go for the pour-over coffee. The pour-over is expensive ($4.50), but you get about two cups worth of coffee and theres just something about it that really gets me focused without any jitters or afternoon crash. The quality of the coffee is top notch in my amateur opinion, but the prices are a bit on the high side I think.
Amazing coffee, tasty breakfast sandwiches and bagels and house made jam like no other. Also the coffee is amazing. Only thing I might consider a negative is the slightly high price
Service here was just fabulous. They forgot part of our order and to make up for it they gave my son a cookie and a chocolate milk! This type of friendliness goes a long way.
This is a bright open feeling space. There staff is very friendly and they make great drinks and food. There are tables, couch, and counter seating available.I really enjoy the matcha latte with almond milk. There vegan bagel is also very good.
Love the tables! The Seven Virtues are written on each table. Coffee wasnt too bad! I believe their roast is a bit darker than I usually enjoy, but I was happy nonetheless!
Simple and magnificent. I had a ball drinking their delicious coffee in the sunlight flooding in through the large store windows. Subtle music filled the air. It was a creative paradise.
Lovely corner spot out of the inner circle. Its an awesome thing to have a charming coffee shop out here and Im glad they fill this niche in the neighborhood as there is nothing else super close. The coffee seems on point, the tea selection is a bit lacking. The service is perfectly acceptable but not overly warm or helpful. They are a solid A-OK coffee shop with all the normal things but nothing in particular that sets it out form the herd.I like that they have a lot of windows and seating, clean and accessible bathrooms and good wifi. The space is a little hard and loud though so bring headphones if you need that kind of distraction.
These guts suck a**. The coffee comes directly from Jiffy Lubes waste oil tank. The staff is moronic and Ill tempered. I would expect better service from a pack of baboons.
Staff was super friendly! I had three mugs of coffee and got my homework done in peace! They had plenty of seating, coffee wasnt expensive, and had great vibes. Ill be back for sure!
Mocha had a nice bitterness to it, not too sweet. Cozy little space with great view of a busy street. Fun to people watch!
One of the better almond milk lattes Ive had. Its a decent, local coffee shop. Theres nothing particularly remarkable, but theyre generally nice and not a bad spot to pop in for a cup or to hang out for a while.
On one hand I just paid $7 for a coffee (ouch) but it was delicious and the food options are great!
Great coffee, great service.
I went here for the first time yesterday and the cold brew was such a great choice. I actually left my debit card there and the staff kept it in the drawer for me. Just bought myself another and Ill definitely be back for more.
Delicious bagel sandwich ($5.50 - not expensive...)and great coffee. Nice atmosphere and professional, friendly staff. Recommended.
A perfect little shop with music low enough in the background for easy conversations with your friend. High end drinks and fresh food and comfortable seating. Besides a strong wi-fi, what more can one want from a corner cup o Joe? Not much!
Portland has so many good coffee places, this is one of them. On the way to our church so its convenient. But parking is difficult.
Best Customer service ever, nice staff.Good BagelsI got the egg ham and cheese Bagel,And it was great.
Great coffee and even better people. The staff is fantastic. Its a nice place to chill or work
Checked out the new Seven Virtues at The Zipper on NE 28th and Sandy. Interesting space with large windows and lots of light. Theres also a nice outdoor seating area. The coffee was great and there is a small menu of food items, mostly bagels and some pastries.
Lived down the street from there. We loved starting the weekend bringing home coffee and scones.
The coffee beans here are thoughtfully sourced, but the roasting led to a slightly smoky taste for both of the coffees we tried. Oddly enough, the drip coffee tasted better than the pour over. The coffee is only ok, but the pastries are good, and the atmosphere is cozy.
Great lattes, friendly chill staff, hip clientele, and good music at a good volume- not too loud but not too quiet. I only wish they had more chairs with the back to the wall.
Great coffee, wonderful staff, very cool atmosphere.
Great coffee, great food, great staff. So lucky to have this place in the neighborhood! There are other coffee places closer to my house, but this is my go-to place.
Great neighborhood coffee shop... fabulous selection of coffee ( beans from different regions) every day.a sparce but refined selection of bake goods ...they have bagel including my favorite, a salt bagel....fair pricing for a Portland independent coffee shop.
This place is amazing!!! The coffee and food is really good.
For background see below. Since my meh...review below I confess that each cup of coffee purchased has been solidly good. Adding star for now.Solid local coffee shop. Id give 5 stars but the brewed coffee is meh about every other cup. It used to be great most of the time, but seems to be slipping. At $3.50 per cup in Portland 90% of the time it should be great.
Comfortable, large open area to get work etc. done. Pastries were dang good and the chai I had was great. Quick wifi too!
Coffee is good, food ok but in the end it’s all about the attitude :( 3 out of 4 times a had been here I had an issue with attitude from a server. Too bad there is not another coffee shop around the area.
Prices are high for mediocre food and drinks. Employees are friendly, but become grumpy when I ask for a sandwich. Its not a bad place, but certainly not my first choice. I only go here because it is the only coffee place on my way to work.
Decent coffee shop. Food options, but not ones I liked. Couch seating is better than tables in my opinion.
Not sure if I came on an off day but this was the worst coffee Ive ever had. Tasted like sour water, and the iced mocha was mostly water. Im not one to write bad reviews but my total should have been 2 bucks not 10. Ive had better gas station coffee...
When I was visiting my friend in Portland, I found this place a block down the street from where I was staying, and Im glad that I found it! This place has awesome coffee, a great vibe, and good food. Since it was an unusually hot week during the time I was in town, Id bring my laptop over to Seven Virtues and camp out there for a few hours, while enjoying their delicious coffee, free WiFi, and air conditioning!
Service is slow right now. Quality and customer service have dipped. They do step up to make it right, though.
Great coffee! I went in and got a bagel and coffee for under $4. It was wonderful! The staff working was super friendly and had the best selection of coffee around!
Good coffee, good sandwiches and a nice space. I wish there was more parking because its not really walking distance from my house--but its a solid choice for a light lunch or coffee break.
Worst Vanilla Latte I have ever had. Tasted both burnt and sour. I wonder whether they used sour milk. Didnt even taste like vanilla either. Was lukewarm when served to me. Service was marginal. Will never go back here. Stopped at the place across the street 2 doors down (since I still needed some caffeine) which was much better.
