This is a whole experience. Imagine a Michelin star restaurants molecular gastronomy prix fixe tasting experience, but for coffee... and catered to your personal liking. Go here if you want all your caffeine fix norms blown away by what you didnt know you were missing. I didnt think Id like the seemingly way too healthy ingredients and unusual flavors and colors (blue mylk for example, which I didnt see on the menu but was requested by a repeat customer. Maybe the menu changes sometimes? I posted the current one.) But Im so glad I put my doubts aside because I now want to try literally everything there. The cocoa knocked my socks off! Its a must try. Not only did Rogelio make me a perfectly balanced, smooth and creamy iced coffee that actually kept me going all through my night shift, he did it with great conversation and care, treating everyone that came through the door like an old friend while making sure we were all happy with our drinks. Cant recommend highly enough.
We were very happy to find this place near our hotel and we visited daily once we did. Ive always been a whole milk guy but enjoyed tasting and learning about some of the plant-based alternatives, and my wife and I both really enjoyed the drinks we ordered. This may not be your best choice if youre in a hurry but if you have time for a chat and are willing to experiment a little, I highly recommend it.
Pájaro is THE BEST coffee in town. Clean, fresh, organic, and thoughtfully crafted. Pure water, handmade mylk, respectfully sourced beans, minimal waste processes.Dont expect Starbucks, this is a mile higher. Somehow its not overpriced in comparison to other coffee. The gentleman who runs the place is a good person as wellSeven stars
Very cute plant-based cafe. I am not normally prefer cow milk, but their milks were fantastic. They had three, hand made options when I visited. When I told the barista its my first visit, they had me try all three before choosing. There was no wait when I visited on a Tuesday afternoon.I had tried a standard latte with their horchata. They asked about my temperature preference, and nailed it. Exactly how I do it at home. Even though the milk is plant based, they foamed perfectly. Shots were also pulled expertly. Latte was $6.50. Pricy, but the drink lives up to the cost. They are doing mason jar for to go cups currently. They require no deposit and ask you bring it back at some point.
The owner (I believe) is a very nice guy but the drinks were not what I expected. I guess the owner changed in the past few years and arent serving the same drinks they used to, which I wasnt aware ofuntil I read the older reviews. The drinks are unique and they only use plant based milk. Expect longer wait than other coffee shops.
Very nice, the ownership changed and this is a different coffee shop than it shows on maps. The owner took his time with each customer and let’s you sample the milks before ordering for free. If you just want a good latte then go somewhere else but if you want something quirky then this is your place
This place is what a coffee shop should be. Everything about the place: the coffee, the alternative mylks, the service & interaction is intentional. Rogelio is walking the talk of sustainability; with a humility and sincerity that makes even the most frenetic of us, calm. The coffee was exemplary but what I will remember most is Rogelio. Go to Pajaro for both!
A wonderful place to go to be by yourself or with a very small group. I came here to meet up with a friend and it did not disappoint. It is well out of the city hussle and it is great. You can take a coffee to go and hangout by the bank of the river. This will quickly turn into my favorite place.I ordered a Mexican Mocha and it was excellent. I love the story of this place and love helping this small company progress.
This guy is a genius. I had no idea that the milk in my latte was plant based. A must try!!
Barista was incredibly rude and condescending when I attempted to bring a friend to this store. They were not wearing a mask and the counter was a mess. After waiting for them to finish with their previous customer for 15 minutes, they failed to explain anything about their beverages or the ordering process at the store, and when we left because they were being rude they called us impatient??? over all terrible experience
Awesome find. We just needed a quick scone and something to sip on this morning, and have found a new favorite place. I LOVE that they don’t offer plastic/paper cups.Rogelio paid so much attention to every part of my order. It is “the slowest coffee in town”, but damn, so worth it. Will be back!
Hands down, the BEST coffee shop in all of Portland. Organic and locally sourced. This place is a gem!
Kiosko Coffee is a small open air coffee and pastry shop located just off of the riverwalk. The owner Angel roasts their coffee to perfection. He hones his skills competing in brewing competitions. The coffee and service are outstanding. They also offer a nice selection of pastries from The Bake Shop, owned by James Beard award winner and author Kim Boyce. The shop is quaint and friendly and offers both indoor and outdoor seating and is open 7 days a week.
HIGHLY recommend stopping by this lovely coffee shop! We were on a photo shoot location search and came across this lovely place! The owners are so sweet and love to share their knowledge, the coffee is amazing, the location is stunning, oh and did I say the coffee is amazing?!? it is! If you would like a real treat...get the ice cream with espresso!!!
2 star for the effort you put to make our drinks. But I take out 3 stars for 1) not having masks on you and your co worker. 2) not having to go cups during covid 3) the mess of the store situation and dirty counter. No way I would drink how matter how delicious it is. But thanks for the effort.
This is a must visit if you’re looking for an authentic, personalized, and unique coffee experience. Rogelio brings a lot to the table with his craft. Thank you brother! 🤙🏼
The owner is a genuine dude. He really cares about producing a sustainable and eco friendly way to serve coffee. Very kind energy in the shop. Great lattes too!
I had the absolute best café experience at Pájaro. First off, they’re vegan & organic & super low waste. They make their own milks, which the owner will happily provide a sampling of every option, so that youre leaving with precisely the drink you want. He curates a wonderfully attentive coffee experience.A couple notes:— Dont go in a rush: the owner provides 1000% attention to the customer, which means that if someone is in the shop before you, he will be laser-focused on that customer first. I promise it is worth the wait because your time will shortly come to sample & hear the background behind the options.— Bring your own mug / take away cup: he does not offer take-away cups! There also are a couple tables & benches outside the shop if you wanted to sip n sit.— They allow you to buy their homemade milks! Just be sure to give them 24 hours notice for them to make it for ya.
Amazing place! Delectable coffee, mylk and ambiance! The owner Rogelio is a delight to speak to, a luminous soul, and a rare gem in a cold, sometimes cruel world with all of its waste, decay, and blatant disregard for our environment. You will not only be regaled with a description of the mylks you can taste, but, if you desire, the philosophy behind Rogelios little gem.I was searching for a place to just buy a cup of coffee that was not a part of a corporate chain, and I didnt even dare wish for what I really wanted - something absolutely sustainable and low impact. Yet, that is exactly what I found at Pajaros! Just goes to show, wish for what you want and you may just get it. What an enchanting little place. Now it is one of my very favorites in Portland. And it is a stunningly beautiful location, right at the waterfront.
Highly recommend! The owner was attentive with exceptional quality of product. My 5 and 7 year old enjoyed every last drop of their specialty hot chocolate, and they make an amazing mocha. Also I tried to get my daughter to let me know what kind of cookie she had gotten, but was too busy eating it to explain any flavors its good, really good
Beautiful spot run by a kind, attentive soul. Lovely house-made nut mylks, wonderful cold brew, delicious treats, and friendly company. A new favorite.
Beautiful, cute little shop in the waterfront. Gorgeous design as well. I got the True Mexican, which Ive heard is one of the most popular drinks there and I see why now. Truly a very fancy mocha experience. I highly recommend! The barista was also very kind, helpful, and very knowledgeable. Very helpful and patient with helping people figure out what theyd like, I appreciated that very much. Will be going back again!
Cute cafe, comfy atmosphere, and warm customer service make this place a hidden gem. Been coming here for years and appreciate how the personality of the space has evolved. Meticulous care for organic coffee matches the care for the customer experience. Espresso beverages feature house-made plant based milks, and drip coffee is made pour over style. Thanks yall
Barista/owner was so friendly! Gave us a taste of many of his vegan creations. Would definitely recommend! The patio is very nice as well.
Delicious drinks and a great vibe.
Funky, unique coffee beverages. Unlike any other coffee shops in town!
Horchata was soo good and loved the owner - quite the character but interesting talk. The chai was good too!
I wish I could have this coffee every day ( too bad we are just visiting) Delicious, quality drinks, and very attentive, kind host! Thank you!
The owners are lovely and made me a delicious coffee. Hadnt had a cup in 10 years and this place was worth the wait. Thanks again.
My moms wife went inside this morning to ask if they were open. She explained were 5 hours from out of town and forgot our jackets at home. She asked if there was dine-in by chance for cups of coffee. The gentleman working replied very rudely Theres no dine-in til Friday and thats all Ive got to say about that! She came back to the car terribly upset about his attitude. Frankly, Im glad we didnt get coffee from this place!
Wonderful owner with a passion for creating 100% plant based espresso style coffee drinks. Stylish open air spot close to nice clean benches along the waterfront to enjoy on a sunny day. Recommended.
Holy. Moses. This is truly incredible coffee. My father and I stopped here on a whim and I’m glad we did. Delightful barista, magnificent mylks, and a real experience. Come here when you are in need of a break from the hustle.Note: there is no sugar on site, but that wasn’t a problem. I like my coffee with sugar and cream but this espresso was so sweet it didn’t need it.
Hands down one of the most thoughtful, heartwarming, delicious coffee shops in all of Portland. (I said it.😉) With eco consciousness at its core, Pájaro is bravely creating a new coffee going experience. When you visit be sure to slow down! If you’re in a rush you’re going to miss what makes this place special. Take the time to taste the amazing vegan mylks offered, maybe even enjoy a conversation with a stranger while your coffee is thoughtfully prepared, and then find a beautiful bench to sip your coffee in the park OR do your part and bring your own mug so you can take one to go. Long story short this place has GREAT COFFEE. GREAT SERVICE. AND IS ACTUALLY MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.
Im super stoked about making this my lazy Saturday relaxation spot
Love this spot, everything I have tried has been magic and Rogelio is a true gem.
What did i put in my body just now
One of the most unique coffee shops in portland and the coffee is very good!
The newish (98 days today) owners have transformed the typical coffee shop experience into something that is spectacular and tasty. They dont just serve coffee, they serve a sustainable cup of tasty goodness. They have yummy locally pressed nut and grain milks (insider tip: try the hazelnut and oat blend) and have innovative coffee alternatives like medicinal mushroom and roasted dandelion blends. Everything is amazing!
Having been here a few times before new ownership and loving it, and most recently meeting the new owner this week, I have to say I still love it. Yes, this is a concept that is bold and some might say aggressive... but that’s what we need right now. I visited while on vacation the same day the most recent review was posted. I have to say although I wasn’t expecting the products to be all plant based and service-ware sustainable, it was a super pleasant experience. Yes, there was only a locally produced plant milk available, and yes it made us take an extra 5 minutes to sit in the park and enjoy. But in a world moving too fast, too disposable... I sit at home and reflect now, and I really appreciate the time we spent and coffee we enjoyed. It might be easy for me to buy in as a barista myself, because I see just how much waste we produce, and understand how big of a difference just one small shop can make. I felt the topic was approached with humility, and explanation without a wagging finger. As this concept is so new and a drastic change, I would suggest introducing it earlier in conversation, though. Best of luck, we will see you next time we are in Portland :)
This place is a national treasure. I hope Nicholas Cage doesnt steal it.
Cute little coffee shop with excellent coffee! They run an almost completely reusable shop, have a variety of plant based milk alternatives (roasted hazelnut was my favorite). Their pour over was really good too! Would definitely visit again, the guy was really cool!
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” A lovely sign posted above the door that offers a little word of encouragement on your way out of the tiny coffee outpost. I asked all kinds of questions about the methods of brewing like copper flower, chemex, or Japanese pour over, and our barista was patient and helpful. I ended up with an iced matcha latte (excellent) and hoping that we’ll (portland) be able to move away from plastic to-go cups and straws and lids soon!
Super friendly, coffee curated to your liking with samples.
I am a soo amazed of the vibe of this place and how they go far an beyond to give you the best experience! Thank you for helping my sister with her craving selling the best plant based alfajores desert! I am soo excited to try the orchata too thank you! will visit soon!
I rushed in before an interview one morning and they were so kind!! Really made my day with their positive attitude, and managed to take care of me and another customer there at the same time, both of us left feeling noticed and happy. The latte I had was so smooth I was sad to drink it on the go. It was back when the previous owner was here, and I cant wait to come back when school starts!
I love this place! It is my favorite place to study. I have had the tea and scones, the coffee, and different lunch items, all were quite yummy. In addition, I have had very good service by the people who work here. All in all, a lovely experience. It can be a bit crowded, however, so I try to pick my time wisely.
Amazing coffee. I had the Mexican cordondito(?) and it tasted so good. Smooth and creamy with great flavoring from house made syrup. The location is in a lush area of gardens at river place, just steps from the marina. And shout out to the man working on the Aug 2. So charming and knowledgeable about everything in the Cafe. He was also able to juggle about 10 customers, who had lots of questions, with ease. I have recommended this coffee shop to friends and plan to return.
Adorable little sustainable coffee shop! It was delicious and my favorite part is they don’t offer to go cups. So bring your own!
My husband and I stopped here for coffee and it was a wonderful experience! The Chai tea was the best Ive ever had, and the owner was a joy to talk with. To top the whole thing off they do an amazing job of being a completely trash free establishment! We cannot recommend this coffee shop enough.
We had a lovely experience at Kiosko. All the plant milks were spectacular! The chai is very pleasant and I love that it is sweetened with coconut sugar. The location is peaceful and time spent there felt centering and energizing. Love the low impact ethos!
Amazing atmosphere and everything tasted great. They have all milks locally delivered and it is in an amazing location in the wonderful city. I HIGHLY recommend this small but great coffee shop.
Quaint coffee shop with tasty drinks. It is small and no tables inside. Theres a small window counter to sit at and some outside seating for nice days. The people are nice an the drink selections have a great Latin flare though you can still get a drip coffee or latte if desired. There is usually a small selection f pastries as well which I havent tried but look tasty.
Its a small roadside coffee house managed by a young family, in downtown Portland OR. They are extremely friendly and makes wonderful coffee.Rohgelio runs the place and he has a fantastic attitudes and very friendly. Wish them all the best.
Super tasty coffee & pastry! Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. This has become one of my go-to spots when I’m in town!
Tiny place that offers a unique vegan experience. The Horchata con Hongo is unique amazing and worth trying. Bring your own coffee mug. Seriously, or you will walk out with a mason jar.
Amazing coffee! I really like this place and the couple that owns it are so friendly. They have a latte featuring a candied yam. They also offer a variety of coffee beans that are exceptional. I cant wait to go back for a visit and a delicious cup.
Kiosko has given me a new perspective on coffee. All of the employees are extremely knowledgeable and passionate. I really enjoy getting into the details of the flavor and different brewing methods. Cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for quick coffee on the go or to hang out on a lazy weekend.
Visiting Portland for the week and staying nearby. This zero waste coffee shop is 👍. Had the Mexican Mocha and it was different than anything Ive ever had. So good.
I stumbled onto Kiosko on Friday morning while riding down to the waterfront for a meeting. I was so impressed by Angel and teams amazing coffee, attention to detail and playful attitude. I am definitely going back. Kiosko is a cute as a button coffee shop tucked into the edge of a park near Portlands Waterfront.
Yummy hand crafted beverages. Have time to wait for the excellent service.
I would absolutely move to Portland simply for this coffee shop. The Cortaditos are spot-on and the coffee is such high quality. Ownership is simply amazing. Will always be back. Took home sound ground coffee as well back to the East Coast. Love the energy and vibe.
Here you will find a family-run local business with a strong lean toward sustainability and environmental footprint awareness, while keeping it true to the birthplace of coffee. The barista is a well-read intelligent young man who is passionate about low-impact service and plant-based products. They strive to have all of their ingredients locally sourced, organic, animal-free, gum-free, oil-free, and gmo-free.The shop is tidy, clean and sanitary; the sweet aroma of honeysuckle from outside mixing in with the rich and robust scent of steaming brew produce an atmosphere that is both cozy and refreshing. An excellent beginning to any properly beautiful day!
Doesnt get any better than this! Service with a happy smile (rare in coffee places) and owners who truly know their stuff. Inspired toppings of cacao and raspberries makes the mocha to die for.
Prepare your tastebuds to be transported to Japan. Superb beverages prepared before your eyes :)
This place is amazing! They are SO friendly and their coffee is absolutely fantastic. Thank you for making my first proper flat white since New Zealand, we love you guys!
Everyone in our small group ordered a different coffee drink. Each was nicely prepared, presented, and tasty. The True Mexican Mocha is quite a treat.
Great coffee, great service. Popped in this morning for a true Mexican and had a lovely chat about authentic Mexican food in the Pacific Northwest. Very down to earth spot.
This little coffee shop is amazing. Their True Mexican with sprinkled dried raspberry is awesome and they make some really good mochas too. If the owners are in, theyre also very helpful! Recommended if youre in the area.
Loved coming here! My wife and I did a coffee experience and enjoyed every bit of it. Totally blown away by their knowledge of coffee and the great hosting they did. Please come and check it out!
New ownership has eliminated pretty much everything that made this a great coffee shop. If youre vegan, you may have more options than other shops. Beware if you ask for half and half, cream, or any other dairy product. Not only will you not get it, but youll get a healthy dose of shaming for even asking for it. If you do order a drip coffee, youll probably only receive a half pour of lukewarm coffee before they run out. In a town of excellent coffee shops, Kiosko is no longer worth the trip.
Zero waste coffee shop, really legit. This is more of what the world needs. And the coffee is great.
The best plant based coffee shop around. Great new owners!
Really good espresso on the waterfront. Try the soda and coffee mix. Carbonated water and espresso. Super unique.
Came here the other day trying to explore the best coffee that Portland had to offer, and was extremely pleasantly surprised to find not only a decent cup of joe but also some amazing mylk options.Super amazing establishment full of character, a great story, and delicious coffees. We had a few different non-dairy options that I dont quite remember at the moment, but he also mixed and matched a few of them and was quick to offer us samples of how itd taste with the chai tea/coffee/etc.Stop by on a run/walk or on your way to handle errands, just dont expect to stay for too long since its a super tiny joint. There is a small bar to sit at and we saw a few people get mugs to-go that would come back and return them later, so thats also an option.I dont even remember what drinks we ended up with, but loved the experience and it was a very Portland coffee shop if there ever was one.
Awesome coffee. I will be coming here every time I am at the waterfront now. They had a cup of excellence Mexican roast that was incredible.
Excellent coffee! Lots of interesting styles. Cute atmosphere, right by the park and downtown. The friendly and knowledgeable owners are what really make the place!
The staff is amazing and thats just the beginning. The best place Ive had coffee since Ive been in Portland. Ask about their cup of excellence!
This is real coffee! Truly high end, sophisticated coffee absent of the coffee snob atmosphere. Cortaditos are plainly and unabashedly on the menu. Good stuff and perfect for snatching a cup to go to accompany you on a walk along the riverfront.
Owner/barista has an attitude. Coffee is ok
Im obsessed with this place
My favorite coffee shop. great atmosphere, Great vibes and a cozy spot with a super friendly owner. I reccomend it to everyone.
Wonderful coffee, non-dairy “mylks” and service.
