Love Maine Surfers Union!! I dont even surf (yet hehe), but I love coming in to look at the great products they carry. Ive picked up some awesome items, and am always happy with my purchases! If youre a coffee drinker, you HAVE to try their coffee---truly some of the best coffee Ive had around here, which is saying a lot, considering what Portland has to offer!! Dawn Patrol is a regular staple in our house--you wont be disappointed.

Ive have come in a few times and had a fantastic experience each time. I came in and talked the type of surfboard to get as a fairly new surfer. I was not pushed to get a board there knowing it wouldnt be the best fit for where Im at. Thanks to this Ill be getting a board here when my skill set matches what they have. Ive done three of the Lady Slide surf lessons and those and beyond amazing. I got a Lady Slide t-shirt yesterday and I love it! Thanks for being a place to come and ask surf questions and get great gear.

Charlie & Company are professional business owners/operators who care and who are fair, honesty and fun! Charlie walked my partner & I through purchasing new equipment. He taught us where to surf, what to practice and how to handle our gear. The other staff members took the time to show us how to wax & care for our boards. Assisted us in affixing our transportation of gear and boards. They gave us helpful hints for their own instructors lesson availability as well as how to find other outlets to learn. Super kind! Super generous! Best experience. Best surf shop around and we hadn’t previously shooed and inquired at multiple other locales. MSU is the best!

Most helpful shop around! Ive made a bunch of purchases from MSU and gotten great advice from their staff with tips like how best to dry my new winter booties. All of the products I have bought there are working out great. Also, great to see Charlie and his crew out in the water tirelessly and cheerfully teaching beginners. My go to shop for all things surf!

Absolutely love this place. Super friendly staff with a beautiful choice of boards. Only wished they had an online store to order from, but other than that I stop here everytime Im in Maine.

I purchased a board there this past summer and now realize I never left a review. MSU was extremely helpful and friendly through the entire process and even shared tons of information on spots to surf throughout southern Maine. Plus they share a photo of you with your purchase because they appreciate each of their customers. When it comes time to buy another board this will be the shop I get it from.

Great local surf shop. Took lessons with some friends and had a blast. Knowledgeable and took the time to make sure we all enjoyed the lesson even though we had different skill levels. Returned to find out they have some of my favorite brands. Ill be back!!

Boards in the shop are beautifully crafted in the U.S. built to last, along with all the accessories you may need plus great apparel. Every summer I drop in to MSU to restock on board shorts and tee shirts. Every summer I get compliments newly restocked trunks, since MSU carries items that most stores around New England don’t carry. Staff here are helpful, laid back and seem to be genuinely great people. I love to support this small business and wish there were more like them!

Ive been a loyal customer of MSU since they first opened on Market Street. The new spot on Free Street is awesome! The staff is great! Helpful, knowledgeable, and happy to answer any questions - even the most technical. The store is very well organized and laid out. Tons of awesome brands and products. I cant say enough good things about Charlie, Christina, and the rest of the crew. One of my favorite shops in/near the Old Port. I love to pop in and see what new threads theyre offering, but also to check out new and old surf videos from across the world. Staff has always been friendly and motivated to help. You guys are rad!

My wife and I were in the shop a few years back and they were incredibly nice and very welcoming. We didn’t even buy anything and they were still super nice and excited to talk to us about the new products they had!

We stop here every time we visit Maine. Always friendly staff and lots of goods to choose from - clothes, gifts, hats, candles, home goods, coffee, BEER, etc. They sell surf brands as well as their own brand. Will be back again and again.

I have a custom wetsuit and two surfboards from MSU among other schwag and a tourquoise ring one of their employees makes. My wetsuit leaves me steamy when it’s 20 degrees out and Charlie is always helpful and nice to chat with. Shop dog Spin for the 6th star.

Awesome shop in downtown Portland. They carry a lot of high quality hard to find boards from world renowned shapers. Great longboards especially. They make some really cool boards themselves also, and know what shapes work in Maine waves. Definitely worth a visit.

Store is cool but they charge $60 to rent a surf board for 24hrs when you can rent one for the same amount of time for $25 at Black Point in Scarborough.

MSU is my favorite shop in Portland. Everyone is always super friendly and the shop has a great vibe. I always make sure to stop in every-time im in town.

Ive known Charlie for several years and stop in to visit MSU whenever Im passing through Portland. You will find a knowledgeable staff and wide selection of handcrafted boards from great shapers not typically seen in the Northeast. Maine Surfers Union is worth the trip.

I bought a used board from them. There was a little mix up when they moved their location and I didnt get my board as fast as I should have but they made it right and did a little extra ding repair than I paid for and even threw in some wax.
