To start, the two people working were welcoming and the atmosphere was warm. However, the coffee and pastries were mediocre. The almond pastry was tasty, but i wasnt offered to have it toasted. The latte had good art, but was extremely foamy. Milk tasted burnt and the espresso flavor didnt come through well (8oz). A good local shop but perhaps better barista QC would be helpful

Great coffee but not the friendliest service Ive had in town. Was a Saturday so maybe they were just busy but Id go elsewhere first before returning. The coffee was great however.

I’ve been coming here for years, the coffee’s good, they have an interesting demographic, and they know my order when I walk in. But currently, without any public Wifi, and in an AT&T black hole, (as is the whole of 30th and Killingsworth) don’t plan on any doom-scrolling on your phone, or quasi-work on a laptop over a coffee…

My favourite roaster in Portland. Their espresso blend is full bodied with silky mouth feel and dark flavour. Very nice as a macchiato. The decor is eclectic and relaxed, and the baristas are very knowledgeable.

Big fan of the Queen of Sheba Chai. Bright space with tons of tables, so you often find people working on their laptops - it’s like adult study hall. Small array of baked goods, cool phone booth in the corner. Great neighborhood spot to spend the afternoon!

Staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable about coffee. Inside has a huge infographic listing tons different types of ways to brew, benefits to each, ratios of coffee to liquid to caffeine content, definitely sets them apart from the million cafes in town. Ian has never let me down with a recommendation. Only downside is that these guys are so good at what they do the line kind can get a little lengthy, something I cant hold against them.

Review №24

Disappointing service and the worst coffee shop in Alberta. Dont get the bagel, youve been warned! As most shops overdo it with the cream cheese, I specifically requested for it on the side. Nope - the bagel was smothered with layers of cream cheese! When I asked for a plate to unload all the extra cream cheese, the server frowned. Like the service, the bagel was tasteless.None of the pastries are made in-house. The Cinnamon Crown was super sticky and doused with sugar while the chocolate croissant was nothing special. The mocha was the best part. With so many wonderful coffee shops in Alberta, save your money and appetite. Head over to Arrow Coffee House or SeaStar Bakery, where all the scrumptious pastries are made fresh in-house and great coffee!

Best Coffee & Espresso drinks of all kinds in Portland in my opinion. I have been going here regularly for 2 years now, and each time they continue to win my business. I take my family here as a special treat when they come to Portland. I enjoy other shops in Portland but this one has clearly taken the award of the Best in the city for me. the staff is also phenomenal and efficient. Very kind and always hustling.

Fast and easy for to go coffee and it is some of the best coffee in the city. However, if you are looking for a place to stay and drink with a friend or two, this place is as loud as a bar on the weekends- it is just very popular. In the summer, the outdoor seating is nice or take a walk to Alberta Park and escape from the trendy delicious coffee shop.

This is one of my regular neighborhood faves. They are quick about getting through the line at busy times but always friendly and swift with the interaction. When there is time they will happily engage and chat. All the folks working here seem to be awesome individuals contributing to the bettering of Portland community. If you live nearby you know this is a local secret as Alberta is just blocks away. The treats are good and the tea list is solid. They roast their own coffee and do so with care and love, the results shine through in the complexity you get in every cup.A great work spot if you can deal with a louder space. But lots of windows at the front, power plugs along the walls and regular 2 to 4 person table surfaces. If youre gonna be all day you may need to venture out for real food but theyve got you covered for the small stuff.

Extracto is one of my favorite neighborhood coffee shops around Killingsworth. The coffee is good, staff is friendly, and they have a fairly large area for seating with plenty of outlets available if youre looking to post up for a bit and get some work done. It can get a little noisy during peak hours if you need to be heads down on something, but overall, a great coffee shop in the area and a go-to spot to get some work or studying done.

Review №35

My friend calls this his favorite coffee shop in the city and while I think that may be a bit extreme, its tough to disagree. Just a short walk from Alberta on Prescott, this tucked-away location offers the same great beans as the others, and has hemp milk (always a bonus). The service is mostly nice, but the espresso quality is really the star here. The indoor seats fill up quickly, but it does have some outdoor seating, that it mostly shares with its neighbors.

Love this place. Theyve been killing it on the coffee buying lately and really dial in their roasts before offering them up for sale. Great drinks, every single time, from their cafe and the staff knows their stuff. With so much great coffee in Portland, I feel a little guilty coming back here time and time again, but theyve earned the business.

Great coffee! I wonder if they roast darker than the rest. Portland is notorious for its medium roast coffees and Im more of a dark roast guy (read: Portland coffee rarely impresses me. Salt Lake City has better coffee IMO). Extracto seems to buck this trend, or maybe its my imagination. My only gripe is that it gets noisy when the place is full. Add some brown carpet or something. :)

Although Ive lived in the neighborhood for years, I recently found Extracto. I think their coffee is better that Stumptowns. It makes for a fabulously complex latte. If you like iced coffee, they dont just brew a pot and stick it in the fridge. They use the toddy method that makes a strong coffee that stands up to melting ice. If theres a line, it will go quickly but if you want a table, you better get there early.

Friendly staff (well, used to be, still mostly nice), tables and chairs (not a sofa place), good coffee and a nice outdoor seating area far enough from the street to be comfortable. Had to drop my rating from 5 to 3 stars because the bad vibe I got on my last two visits has resulted in our switching from having extracto changing from our go to coffee roaster to a joint we’ve not visited for months. We’re looking forward to a new roaster opening up a block towards Alberta on 30th Ave and Emerson that, according to the builders, be very dog friendly.

All I wanted to do was ask a question but no single employee stepped up and asked if I needed help. So they just stared at me until I had to take the initiative to solve my own issue. Ill admit that my conservative appearance and demeanor is probably off putting but I really felt like I was an outsider and I guess I was treated accordingly.

Latte art did not disappoint, and the coffee had an excellent aroma and flavor. I also tried a Queen of Sheba Chai, which was good. The atmosphere, though, was kind of conflicted. Tables felt kind of cramped, and overall it seemed to lack the kind of warmth that I so appreciate with my coffee. This cafe was missing a welcoming and comfortable quality in the environment.

When you walk in, you are greeted by a friendly Hello! that comes from the also friendly barista. You look around for a moment and instantly are attracted not only by the menu and food selections they have, but also by the character of the shop itself and the aroma of delicious coffee.Me and my wife walked up to the barista who was very pleasant to conversate with, and had him make us a drink he would deem worthy of consumption. And let me tell ya, it was awesome. We sat down at a wooden table by the window. The table showed that it had been proudly used well. The light flooded in on it through the window to expose scratches and wear from many years of use. It was almost like an art piece. One that bolstered heavy character. And thats the vibe I gathered from the whole place. The borderline rustic/industrial feel made for a very lovely aesthetic. But it only got better! After sitting down, I put that lovely cup of coffee to my lips and I was almost blown out the window. :P It was a very strong, well presented cappuccino that excited my palate. The barista had done his company proud by creating a cup of coffee for me and my wife that was absolutely, downright awesome.Overall: The good service paired with an excellent, cultured atmosphere and the great products the offer; turned me into a believer. I would recommend this place without hesitation.
