Ive been looking for a place to take the kids after the museum. This wont be it.The only food options they had were expensive little sandwiches and pastries. Judging from the awful taste, Im pretty sure all the pastries we bought were gluten free. They should have been labeled. The hot chocolate didnt have any sugar. If this is a health cafe with only healthy options, they should make that clear before unsuspecting people like me go in.
One of my favorite coffee roasters in PDX. I dropped by in the afternoon after a visit to Portland Art Museum and enjoyed my soy latte and a quick chat with the barista. Beautiful store and friendly service. Unfortunately indoor space including the second floor is closed at the moment but there are a few tables outside on the sidewalk.Kudos to closing late (6pm) so when I feel sleepy in the afternoon I know where to get a good cup of coffee.
Visiting Portland and had to try Coava. (Not a Starbucks fan anyway). Very good espressos pour over and chai. I had honey latte very fine coffee!
New from out of town, felt such a warm welcome and one of the most delicious coffee beverages I’ve had. Service was quick, kind, and she personally crafted my drink for me. One of the best I’ve had! Cute shop. Would recommend.
This cafe came recommended for their quality and care for the beans and coffee making. I got an almond milk latte that is made with 2 expresso shots and a guava turnover. If you are in the area, make a stop!
Outstanding espresso and a very competent friendly staff.
One of my all-time favorite coffee shops in Portland. What really shines here in my opinion is the environment. Downstairs you have a well decorated coffee bar and light seating and upstairs you have the majority of the seating for those staying a bit longer.Something that I wouldnt have thought about before realizing what felt so good here is the acoustics. The space is fairly quiet for having a decent amount of people in it, I assume due to the design of the sound dampening ceiling, and separate floors. Unlike most other coffee shops, you are able to study without noise-cancelling headphones. This is then topped off with a sound system that sounds wonderful playing their very good taste in music; a sort of unique style of lofi hip-hop.The staff is extremely friendly and the coffee is absolutely excellent. If I had a complaint, Id say my latte wasnt super hot, but Id be really nitpicking.
I was really excited to try one of Portland’s best coffee shops. However, I was a little underwhelmed by the latte that I ordered. It was soft, but it was very mild and I couldn’t taste much of the coffee and I paid $6. I’ll try their espresso next time but I’ll keep my expectations low. The atmosphere (music, interior) is very trendy/hip, so I can see why people would frequent this shop, but I wish the coffee was a little stronger and more affordable.
I have been to another Coava many times yet this is the first time here. The quality is the exact same—the coffee is as supreme, velvety and tasting as at the other location, and the whole place is just absolutely gorgeous. The decoration is modern with an urban twist to it with plenty of room for people to enjoy themselves. The top floor is ample and one of the best working spots I have seen at a cafe: brilliant use of the space! There’s an entire wall covered with plants while the broad windows let enough sunlight making the space feel organic. The service was friendly and professional: I am convinced I will be back!
Busy place with good coffee. As of last week I didnt notice any seating there. Try the cremuffin or other yum looking pastries. They look really good
My favorite stop to grab a good cup of coffee.
Kind and talented staff are attentive to make your custom beverages. Go for it.
Coffee is great but one of the baristas mansplained an Americano to me. He ignored me when I asked for the drink to be done a certain way and instead insisted that they ...dont do it that way. I meet with my client here weekly but theyre not getting any of my money.I just wanted the shots pulled over ice. I dont know why it turned into a power struggle.
Good coffee, courteous staff at Portland branch. Nice coffee roasts and specials. Love the honey latte.
Wonderful coffee and staff members. Top notch quality and a nice selection to choose from, if youre traveling then this is a nice place to stop and relax. If I lived here this would be a regular place certainly, theres lots of space and seems ideal to work or study. Try the cortado, one of the best youll try at any shop.
Some of the best espresso in town can be found at Coava. I thoroughly enjoy the rotating bean selection. Trying different roasts from around the world is a treat! The baristas are well trained, the shots are always dialed in well and the bean quality is excellent imo.Customer service has been brilliant too.So yes, Im gushing a bit. But after trying dozens of coffee shops around town, Ive found you really cant go wrong stopping here for a coffee.
Honey latte, better than I expected.
This place is a little expensive but the coffee is top-notch. The barista was excellent and I really like the space with extra seating outside. Definitely a nice place to stop for a really great coffee.
Igor & Sid were so great this morning.Igor was very knowledgable about the various coffee roasts and flavor profiles that Coava offers. He was very excited to introduce my girlfriend and I to this new Coava location too; the menu has everything that each of the other Coava location’s menus have combined, and the shop is beautiful to say the least. For those that are looking for a place to meet downtown, let it be known that there is some SERIOUS sitting room upstairs; I imagine 20-30 people could find a place to sit easily. You must check this place out!
This is a nice coffee shop. It has a very modern looking and atmosphere. I personally like more homey environments. This place is not very homey. The second floor has a nice light in afternoon. it feels good to chill out a weekend afternoon here. The coffee quality is good. They dont have chai and I was a bit disappointed. The coffee and tea menu is very short and you wont have many options. The bathrooms are located in back side of the building and I dont consider it an easy access but it is okay. It is a good place to sit and work. They have a few outlets and thats another thing that has room for improvement.
I got a mocha with almond milk. The quality of chocolate was the best Ive had at the many different coffee shops Ive been, not too sweet but just sweet enough. I tried some of a friends drip coffee and the flavor was unique and brewed very well, full of great flavor that was still unique yet not too acidic. The atmosphere was pretty good, very much focused toward providing quality work and meeting space with their upstairs tables, less so toward comfortable lounging. Street parking available with small fee out front.
Amazing coffee with a kind and knowledgeable staff. Prices are fair or maybe even a bit under market value considering the quality of the product.
I really love their Ethiopia, well balanced between sour and bitter, chocolate feel when in latte.
Great coffee and great atmosphere!
The nicest baristas & the honey latte is the right balance of sweetness and creamy-ness
Lovely coffee experience!
Had the best cappuccino 🙏
This Coava location is great for getting work done. Theres plenty of seating upstairs with some tables for larger groups (~6 people). The plant wall is a nice touch! If youre looking for a more casual, social hangout spot, their location on Grand Ave. is perfect for that and has a nice vibe to it. If you want a location to cozy up and read a book, their Hawthorne location has a fireplace and some couches.
Their coffee is ridiculously good! But pricey.
Great coffee, no doubt. But gives off a vibe you are an inconvenience for ordering.
Nice staff great coffee
Always a pleasant staff. Quality coffee and speedy service.
The best coffee shop in town.
One of the best espressos you can have in Portland. Their beans are great too (even with the weird flavors). It is the salt and straw of coffee in Porltand, maybe?
Nothing to complain about. i will be back with my coworkers. the bill was good for what you get. mood here is similar to fresnos scene.
Great coffee House
I will go out of my way to get their honey latte here. Perfection.
My sister lives in walking distance to this place, so when we were out to visit here my husband and I decided to try it out. The staff is really sweet and the coffee is top notch. We went every to this place every day for our entire 14 day visit. I was never disappointed. Just a nice normal coffee shop with some great coffee. They are that good!
Coava is pretty special. They make great speciality coffee, however, I think their pour overs are the best. They make them all in a Chemex, and the flavors expressed are so fine and pure. I met a barista there and talked with her about photography for about ten minutes; their service was quick and kind, their atmosphere is cool and clean, and I would most definitely go here again.
Such nice service always. And great coffee too.
One of my favorite coffee shops in town. This one has a very cool mural and upstairs seating perfect for doing work or meeting a friend and the downstairs is more of a grab and go vibe!
I didnt get anything fancy but my coffee tasted good. The staff was very friendly and I liked the upstairs seating area. This area is large and accommodate a lot of patrons. It has a social feel but still not too loud. The furniture is very basic. It is not the most comfy seating but its not especially uncomfortable either.
They make their own oat milk, honey and everything else! Nothing processed. Amazing coffee and bean selection l, and probably the best oat milk I have had so far!
Wow, this place has everything! Its local, the coffee tastes great, the baristas were incredibly friendly and educated about the coffee. Paige helped me pick out some beans and I got the natural processed coffee. Im really excited to try it. The atmosphere was really nice and the plants, especially upstairs are a beautiful touch. Ill be back!
Really nice, clean place. Good amount of seating, and my mocha was.good. nothing spectacular, but normal good. It did cost 5.50, which was more than anywhere else Ive been. My friend didnt enjoy her iced mocha at all 🤷 Im not a usual coffee drinker, so Ill take her word for that. Everyone else in the party said it was okay, which probably means its a good place. Lots of room upstairs for sitting with lots of tables.clean bathrooms, you need a code from one of the workers to use it. Good service!
One of my favorite coffee shops in Portland. The service is always good. The coffee tastes great. The space itself is really nice. I really like the wall of plants on the second floor. Theres always a lot of seating available, unlike other coffee shops Ive been to. The free wifi is very convenient.
Staff members were very friendly and the taste of the coffee was also great.
Very pleasant visit. I found the chocolate & praline croissant delicious. The pour over coffee was good but the roast I had was a touch acidic for my taste.Everyone working was very pleasant and present in their interactions.Overall, Id come again, especially whenever I need to go to the Amazon location (which is on the same block).
Really cool, open spot. I love the big windows upstairs to let in natural light but it’s a bit noisy if u want to have a call or something like that. Otherwise, u can pop your ear pods in and do your thing!
Good coffee. Decent ambiance. Lots of tables for communal work place upstairs, but no outlets for keeping devices charged.
Coffee was decent. Place was way too loud (music and loud talking) for a coffee shop IMO but maybe thats how its done in Portland or maybe the employees didnt manage this well on this day. Music selection was terrible - dub step/hip hop mix? I would recommend this place for group work and/or meetings or just hanging out with friends. Dont come here if youre trying to work and cant block out loud noise.
The vibe was chill. The coffee was good. The baristas were cheerful and helpful. Seating was plentiful and I loved the upstairs community area. Ill come back!
Fast and friendly service, and great coffee!
Inexpensive and yummy coffee 😋
Im from out of town, and I was recommended this place by my local friend. Absolutely one of the best coffee shops Ive been to in a while, and Ive made multiple trips back over the long weekend I was in Portland. Im a huge iced coffee/cold brew fan, and their nitro iced coffee was incredible. Highly recommend.
Mocha is bitter than I thought, but I like it.
This is my local coffee place... so am I a little biased? ...yes... BUT they have amazing coffee and more importantly they have an amazing team providing 5 star service. I also am a fan of the cream-cheese brioche... but Im really there for the coffee.Environment is great - plenty of seating upstairs and always playing great music!
If you’re looking for a proper espresso then come here. Unquestionably, the pour overs and lattes are delicious as well but for me what really shines is the consistent quality of their espresso. Logically, you can expect that their coffee beans are of the finest quality. Hubby and I tried Coava beans from Brazil, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Ethiopia, Kenya (I’m probably missing others) and always delighted by the different flavor profiles and meaty (full and complex mouth feel) espresso shots that we pull at home. For sure there are comparable roasters in the area but we just really enjoy Coava’s beans. Oh! Last and certainly not least: the staff is delightful! Knowledgeable, fun and talented baristas!
One of my favorite coffee shops in Portland. The service is always good. The coffee tastes great. The space itself is really nice.
Im one of the few people that thinks Coava coffee has a sour after taste. This space is nice but their seating is limited on the ground floor and the upstairs is inaccessible if you cant climb stairs.
Very cute shop with a large upstairs space to study. The internet isn’t the fastest but the coffee makes up for it! Lol
From an excellent selection of beans roasted for the use labeled to properly tempered milk well poured the drinks are perfect. The space is beautiful and comfortable, if youre looking for authentic grittyness try somewhere else. Seriously, you have to get the beans.
My girlfriend and I decided to try out a new coffee shop today. This place looked really cute, and based on the prices, we thought it would be top quality coffee. We ordered our coffee then sat down to talk and wait for our order. After about twenty minutes we started to wonder what was going on. Looking at the coffee bar it was clear that the barista had barely made 2 coffees in the time we had been waiting. Finally, the other barista started helping her get through the growing number of orders but it still took another 10 minutes before ours were finally made. They only sell 10 ounce coffees. We paid about $6 for each coffee and waited for 30 minutes to get them. We were irritated at this point but still expected the coffee to be good. We couldn’t have been more disappointed. The coffee was bad, the chocolate they used for the mocha was bad, the “house oatmilk” was bad. The whole thing ended up tasting like overly sweet dishwater coffee. I honestly could not recommend this place less based on the coffee alone, but the service is an entirely good reason not to come here too.
My favorite coffee shop. Always scrumptious. Great vibes and a cozy upstairs. I reccomend the vanilla latte and one of their danishes.
Cool coffee shop with really good coffee (according to my boyfriend) I dont drink coffee. But the place is comfortable and not too crowded.
So on my way through downtown Portland I stumbled upon this coffee shop. It was 5:52 but I thought I’d try my luck to see if they’d make me a quick double shot of espresso. The baristas were genuinely happy to serve me the espresso even as a customer coming in momesnts before they closed. We talked about the blend and they couldn’t have been friendlier. If you’re searching for an expertly crafted shot look not further. I’ll definitely be back.
When I walked in the staff was friendly and nice when I asked about seating space upstairs, since it was my first time there.I enjoyed writing while drinking a cup of mocha in the upstairs seating area next to the windows. It has a relaxed feel to it.
This is a beautiful new location of Coava! The upstairs is a great place to work, with dozens of outlets, large tables, and a beautiful back wall of pothos plants. The only bummer is since they do pour overs/espresso drinks only theres no coffee refills... but that one pour over is SO good its always worth it still. :)
They would not steep tea any longer than their perfected time of 1.5 minutes. I always “overstep” my tea and have never found a place to be so ‘snooty’ they won’t give me my preferred steep time. I’m still just annoyed and disgusted. The guy at the counter acted shocked when I walked out, declining to purchase their over priced perfectly steeped tea 🙄
A tipical northwest coffee ship. Decent coffee but nothing about the Cafe or the coffee stood out. However, if you need a place to work on a group project, the upstairs has large tables.
