Nice coffee shop in downtown Portland, with good coffee and friendly service. The decor has an industrial vibe, echoing the two lovely murals inside, one of Hawthorne bridge (with its body lifted!) and one of Union Station. Very nice touch.

Phenomenal vanilla latte and morning bun. They did such a great job with the coffee and how they made the latte, simply perfect. The morning bun was not too sweet and had a great crispy and flakey outside. My only complaint is that it smeels odd when you walk in. Not a pleasant smell of most coffee shops.

Normally the coffee is pretty good so thats why Im giving 2 stars instead of 1, but this morning my bf and I ordered oat milk since we have dairy allergies and we definitely both got whole dairy milk instead. I clearly said oat milk twice when I ordered...I had to dump mine out. :(

The interior of this place is one of my personal favorites. They knew what look they wanted and did not alter that in anyway. It all works and is a very beautiful space. The coffees are good and they have the coolest pour over system I have ever seen. I had the cardamom latte which is pretty yummy! Space, service, coffee what else would you look for here? They truly have it all. Solid choice for your morning cup of wake the **** up :)

Service was genuinely friendly and accommodating at this cool little spot. Mocha was nice and chocolately, hot and served in a ceramic mug, but had a sour edge to it – either the decaf espresso had gone off or I just don’t like Stumptown espresso, not sure which. Not wanting to waste the drink, I didn’t mention it to the barista, as I felt sure he’d insist on making another. I’ll give 40LBS another shot next time I’m in town. I genuinely enjoyed passing a few minutes in their stylishly hip space watching the busy world glide by.

Because of my work, I travel a lot and find myself in many Coffee Shops. This is a great little spot with even better coffee. The vibe is sort of a that of a swiss chalet rather than a hipster Portland Coffee bar. If you are looking for a great cup of coffee and a place to relax for a bit I highly recommend 40LBS.

The coffee and service here is always great. Ive been here many times because its a very convenient location in proximity to my work. It does get busy during peak coffee drinking times but the line moves quickly.I usually order a latte or a decaf latte when visiting here and both are well made. Ive never had a bad experience with my order. They also have bagels and yummy pastries and chocolate bars. They have many seating options, including a very large table in the back. Ive attended mid-afternoon meetings here without any trouble finding space for 3 people to sit at a table.Anyway if you like good coffee for Portland standards and havent tried this place, you should check it out. If your experience is anything like mine you will not be disappointed.

Comfy spot with skilled, friendly staff and pretty good coffee. Would be 5 stars in most cities. They pull Stumptown beans and theyd probably have been 5 stars back when Stumptown beans were awesome (before they needed to crank their volumes up to support their growth strategy). Most people will be very happy here I think.

Review №52

I want to give this place a better review. The staff is friendly, prices are reasonable, its comfortable to hang out in and the things to eat are pretty good. I cant give it higher ratings because its brewed coffee is regularly meh. I think another three-star reviewer said the coffee was thin, that sounds accurate. Some of the world likes good coffee and couldnt care less about espresso drinks. If a coffee place sells coffee made from freshly roasted high-end beans and sells brewed coffee for $3+ per cup--this place does that--and yet cant make good brewed coffee then they are letting something go. All places have some off days, and sometimes its the beans, but Ive given this place many, many chances and its too hit or miss to patronize in a city like Portland where one can walk three blocks and get a stellar cup of coffee. Maybe use a little more per batch or check temperature on the brewer.

Ive been consistently impressed by the perfect execution of every latté Ive enjoyed from this stylish little café. The aesthetics, from the excellent lighting to the McIntosh receiver proudly displayed above the bar, speak to unpretentious refinement. Its not a quaint, cozy neighborhood coffee shop, so those seeking such things may not enjoy it so much. 40 LBS is for those of us who like things done at a higher level.Update-dropping down to 3 stars because the service is slow. Great coffee bar that also offers nitro cold brew and nitro chai tea! The coffee is from Stumptown Roasters, so you know its amazing. And they have plenty of pastries, including gluten free options. The cafe itself is laptop and study friendly with plenty of tables and spots to sit. If you love pour over coffee, then definitely give this place a look because there are several coffees to choose from.
