I only visited when they were unfortunately closing for good. Nice folk. I imagine there cheese selection would have been great.
Went here for lunch! I got a Mediterranean Chicken soup and an ESB. The shop was clean, the service fast and friendly, and I especially loved the artwork on the walls. The soup was flavorful, but on the small side, and mine only had one chunk of chicken. The baguette was the kind thats super crunchy.I got a hunk of cheese from the display after. The staff were informed, offered many samples, and the shop had a good selection of classics and interesting varieties. Overall the place was fun and Ill return, but the soup could have been more impressive.
A friend from Salem suggested meeting at this shop. Friendly, helpful staff & a nice selection. They even had some Italian Speck! Yummy
Tonight was our second time partaking of the Cheese Bars winter raclette special on Wednesday nights. Definitely worth checking out.Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Everything else (food, wine, beer, desserts) exists to complement the incredible selection of cheeses. Perfect for a small bite/happy hour up to a full blown, extremely satisfying meal.
Had my first wonderful visit to the Cheese Bar! I would label it as a Cafe. All wines are $9 and it has a beer seleas well. The cheese counter looks excellent with plenty of things I have never seen at Fred Meyer or New Seasons. I had the special buratta cheese board that was amazing! And the buddy and regular cheese boardss. Looking forward to coming back to buy from the counter. Service was great and attentive though, it wasnt busy at 5pm.
Only been here once on lunch, I was dirty and dressed like a construction worker. I expected to be served poorly but the service was amazing and the tomatoe curry soup was probably the best soup Ive ever had from a restaurant. The prices werent bad at all and the ambiance was cozy and friendly. I will going back soon.
The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The selection is amazing!
Man how did I not know about this place!! The cheese selection is out of this world. And they have the most yummy menu for food. The mac and cheese is just the best!!! They have lots of shareable cheese plates as well so great for going with friends. Wonderful beer and wine selection as well to pair nicely with the meat and cheeses. Oh and super yummy dessert!!
Oh man. They have a great selection of cheeses to choose from. Stick around for lunch or dinner too. From cheese boards to hot entrees like high end mac and cheese. They have all the bases covered. My personal advice is to have their great food with a stout or porter. That is a great combination.
Great cheese and accompaniments. Also great sandwiches too. Love having a place like this in the neighborhood.
You might read and say... Bar? Where does that come from? Bar really? No. Its not the bar your thinking of. Its a cheese bar. Cheese is very good here. Of course, it wont compete with Tillamook Cheese factory. But, its good. You wont have to worry about wasting money on stuff that is worthless. There is a lot of worth here. Dont hesitate to buy cheese from here.
These guys are terrific! Definitely go there, eat cheese, drink wine or beer, and hang out. Its really a great place!!
The attention to detail and impeccable quality here is amazing. Can I not give them six stars?
Im just at the beginning of exploring different cheeses and this place was a good option. We ordered a cheese board and a good selection was brought out without having to make the choice for ourselves. The parking was a bit tricky, but worth it. Id bet its a good place for a casual date where you wouldnt need to order a full meal.
Sad to see them go. 🧀♥️
Great place to find quality cheese and meats.
We were excited to try this interesting shop on ‘Raclette Night’ recently .While the food WAS delicious,We were certainly taken aback whenour food was served on tiny saucer- sized plates !!!! I suppose we shouldn’tbe too surprised, since the cost wasonly $7.00. Per plate !! The photo on the website ( which has been taken down)Showed the food : potatoes, ham Raclette and pickles appearing to beon a regular sized plate ~ not a saucer !!We would gladly have paid much morefor a normal sized plate of food, butthere was no indication that this would be the size seen on a ‘tasting menu’Very disappointing !
This is a good, solid place to purchase cheese. Steve is probably the best cheese monger in Portland. He is well connected with his suppliers and has some great prices on many of the selections. Why do I only give him for stars? His preferences are different than mine. Not worse, just different.
A great place for cheese, with a good beer selection the monger always has a great board to taste something new. The sandwiches are amazing. Then there is the cheese case, even if you dont know what to choose just tell them what you like and theyll recommend some great cheeses.
Love this place. So sad it is closing.
Very knowledgeable staff! Sad to see them close.
This is the best cheese bar out there! Steve the owner is worldly famous for being the best cheese monger. The staff is always amazing and the offerings are out of this world! Have a question about a cheese ask the staff they are all very well educated on everything in the shop! Thanks for being such a great Portland staple!
Love cheese bar. Best selection of cheese in Portland. Cozy space usually with good beer and wine selection.
The cheese is fantastic and not over priced in my experience! So yummy! The staff was wonderful and knowledgeable. The macaroni and cheese was perhaps my favorite of all time and they have a wide variety of drinks. I highly recommend stopping by
Great selection of cheese. There actual cheese plates are pretty basic for the price you pay, had to order more sides to make it worth while. They however didnt judge us when we tried copious samples before picking a wedge to eat after our plate.
If I lived in Portland, Id be a weekly customer! The lunch we ordered was tasty. But really its the help we got picking out some Spanish cheeses and meats that really wowed us! Also the whole team working was friendly, attentive and knew what they were selling! Will return, will reccomend!
Such a cute little shop! Perfect for both buying cheese to take home and grabbing a bite. They have a HUGE selection of the best cheeses and the staff knows their stuff.Their fondue is the most authentic tasting fondue Ive had in the States although its not served in the traditional fondue-pot style youd expect. Everything Ive ever had has been excellent and they have a small, but quality beer selection.
Great selection of cheeses, wine. Very knowledgeable staff. Nice atmosphere.
I ordered a BLT. Excellent sandwich. Kens artisan bread didnt hurt it any. My table mates ordered the fondue and a grilled cheese sandwich. The porter I had with it was yummy, as was the pot dcreme. And this review from someone who avoids cheese now (health reasons!) Go there. Buy cheese. Order some lunch. I dont think there is anything you will regret having.
Great selection of cheeses and pre-built boards to delight. Excellent selection of wine and beer.
Amazing, it was all a 10. Food, Staff, Ambience. It wasnt just great food it was an experience.
So excited to find this hidden gem! The mushroom soup was incredible, not to mention their beer and wine selection. Comfortable atmosphere. I can’t wait to explore their cheese selection!
Super cute and great selections of cheeses and the table service was really nice.
Nice place in every way. Not fancy, large beer list, good wine list. I had a cheese board and all was good, the Vermont row cows cheese excellent. If you are very hungry one cheese board wont cut it but you can guess that at some $9.40 or so.
They have a really cool east coast deli feel here. Really cozy environment. When you walk in you get blasted by the best smells in the history of mankind! A little spending but you get what you pay for! Cheese bar is a heavyweight.
Amazing selection of cheeses and some great wines. They do tastings pretty regularly, which was great when I lived in the area. Also, they sometimes have this french butter that changed my world. I never thought Id say that...
Always a wonderful experience. The proprietor takes great care to bring the best beers and cheeses to the customers. The cured meats are wonderful and you can purchase almost all to take to your own pantry.
The cheese bar has such good food! They also have a great selection of imported cheeses and meats to buy. If you need good food come here!
Great food/cheese plates! We had the mac n cheese and two different cheese plates because we couldnt get enough. Rosé was good too.
A tiny shop, but has a table out side for nice weather days. A yummy selection of cheese and small plates of snacks, and some good drinks to choose from.
Need some unusual and interesting cheese? This is the place! Small and friendly, try the Croatian goat cheese, yummy!
World class cheese case right near my house! Excellent place for late night date or tasty lunch or to pick up some special cheese/charcuterie/bread/wine/beer for picnic, party or just yourself!
Great spot. Nice, fun staff thats well versed in cheese, wine and beer. Moderately priced and delicious light food.
Went to one of their raclette nights ($6/plate). It was delicious but we were still hungry so a friend and I also split a cheese plate. I also ordered a glass of red wine which was good as well.
Had a delightful duck confit pot pie and assorted cheese plate here one night. The wine selection and food menu are top notch. Go here!
Great place to come for charcuterie. Im not much of a wine or beer person but they seem to have a nice selection of that as well. Very pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. Its only a ten minute walk from my house which is a dangerous notion. xD
My favorite cheeses are here!
A great neighborhood place that is worth traveling to. Excellent and unique sandwich combos. Had the best burrata there I have ever tried. Nice staff and a low key place.
Good selection of cheeses and cheese related items. Service staff is knowledgeable and helpful. We always leave with some good cheese or have a seasonal board.
This is my own personal version of heaven! I am a cheese connoisseur and the staff behind the counter was superb! I knew for the most part what I wanted, and when I asked for a recommendation, oh man, did she deliver! Yeehaw! I love cheese!
Despite good food and wine, staff is horribly unfriendly, agressive, and rude. Thought it was a unique instance but unfortunately have experienced this several times. Too many great places in Portland to waste your money and time here. Try Bar Norman!!
What an incredible experience. Mind browingly good cheeses curated to perfection. Very affordable and the beer selection was great too. We will be back for another date night. 🧀🧀🧀
Best place in town to buy cheese. Expertly curated with a staff that really knows the product. Great beer selection too
I just love cheese. They have a lot of cheese there.
This place was exactly what I was looking for at the time. I had a very pleasant mini-meal. It was quick and tasty.
It’s a nice looking place but they gave me and my friend dirty glasses and soaped water and were rude even though we purchased food they kicked us off their benches. Didn’t appreciate their small effort to show appreciation for their customers. And they sale spendy sandwiches that barely have any meat in them
Was recommended by family member and sandwich was pretty good
The Cheese Bar is a great neighborhood restaurant! The menu is short and sweet with just a few very tasty items. The staff are very friendly and they have wonderful cheeses!
So much fun and so many cheeses to taste!
Very product knowledgeable
Not from around here. Had a friend recommend the shop and requested I pick him up some Finocchiona. I also got excellent recommendations on a Bleu and a raspberry Bellavitano. Both Cheeses were amazing! Thank you!
Nice rubin with Kim chee en lieu of sour kraut. Very tasty sandwich albeit a bit on the small side for a rubin. Atmosphere was nice. Going to try a cheese board next.
Unique! Nostalgic! Mt Tabor! 😁
Disclaimer: I love finger food and beer. Cheese Bar sits in the heart of one of my favorite neighborhoods in Portland (60th and Belmont). It has an cute atmosphere and some nice outdoor seating. Grabbed a couple IPAs and one of their many cheese trays with some local meats, cheeses, and bread. Cant wait to go back!
Super place, chill atmosphere, excellent selection of cheeses! Staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Raclette night once a week and wine tastings are not to be missed. Can get loud but not a big deal.
Steve is great. His staff is super friendly and will answer any questions. The best cheese and meat pairings anywhere.
The guy with the mustache who works the counter has to be the most knowledgeable, charismatic, AND handsome cheese monger in town. Great beers on tap, good specials, and the best selection of delicious cheese.
Love this place, food is delicious. Excellent beer, wine and cheese selections!
Like the food. Like the people. Love the cheese varieties
Seriously amazing food and super friendly staff. We had the fondue (which is incredible), and the asparagus salad (ditto), and their wine selection is lovely.
A place like this succeeds by getting the basics right: taste, feel, selection, ambiance, and service. All are remarkable. Its the kind of place in which you lean into the staffs expertise and the results are worth the culinary trustfall. The cheesemonger knows his stuff.
Want a special cheese for your next shindig? This is the place. Amazing selection of unique cheeses, raclette cheese in Wednesdays and free wine tastings on Thursday evenings! Their food menu is full of cheesey goodness.
Great meat and cheese selection. Which you would expect from a place called Cheese Bar. It is a bit on the pricey side. But good wine, cheese and meat - sometimes you get what you pay for.
The Cheese, that Cheese and oh my precious God, the delicious Cheese!
Great place to buy cheese. The secret of this place is that the food they serve is terrific.
Cheese! Oh mah god, cheese! I love cheese and I love this place. The staff is super friendly and will break you off a slice if you ask nicely. If you like things like cheese and life and charcuterie and being nice to yourself, go to Cheese Bar and eat some cheese. Do it!!
This place is a gem. Their Mac and cheese is amazing and their fondue the best Ive ever had.
Great selection of cheeses and charcuterie, really nice place for some food and drinks.
Im not a cheese connoisseur so maybe this place would be better for someone who is. I like yellow cheese but there was none except one cheddar that was $48 for a small block. They do have really good root beer.
Awesome experience if you like cheese. Everything we had was exceptional.
There were six of us eating together so qe wanted to put the tables together. They would only allow us 2 tables, even though there were many tables available. The tables were only about 2 feet square so we were huddled together very closely. We came in together and ordered together, but the staff couldnt handle serving us together, so by the time I received my sandwich, many of my friends had already finished eating.
Good grilled cheese. Good selection of soft cheeses. Next to a recovery center where people were yelling, and a open lot where there was a dead, decapitated rat.
The cheese selection youve always wanted at a bar with CIDER! Such a great pairing.
Exceptional cheeses! We were sampled a variety of cheeses and took some home for a great night of wine and cheese.
So good I dont want to tell anyone about it, for fear it will be overrun by adoring patrons. A little expensive, but well worth it.
Love that they have Portuguese cheeses!
Cheese was great, but would of lived loved to see some calafornia red wines.
We went for Raclette night. The woman who seated us and the gentleman who was helping us initially were welcoming. Raclette isnt on the menu so there is no description about the dish but I have had it with friend in Switzerland so I was excited to be nostalgic. The gentlemen took our order, then brought out two plates whole ham potatoes and pickles to have covered in cheese. I saw the meat and being vegetarian quickly asked them to remove it before cheese is added, mostly because I do not want to be wasteful. The woman behind the bar made some snarky comment about deciding my new year,s resolution was not to eat meat and we looked like newbies. I am all for a vegetarian joke but she just seemed rude. Cheese wasnt that melted and was kind of cold. Ended up paying 12 dollars for a small potatoes covered in cheese. We also got the tomato soup which wasnt anything special.
Our friends suggested this place. We had a cheese board with a half a baguette on the side. More than enough for two adults. Let the staff pick your cheese. It can be a bit overwhelming.
Although not up to the standards of a good European fromagerie, the cheeses we sampled were quite good. The atmosphere is pleasant, the staff is good. The wine selection was lacking, which is why it doesn´t warrant 5 stars.
