Great boat yard, from their expertise to their accommodating ways!No need to go anywhere else.I will always have PYS service and store my antique sloop here.
The people at PYS are all very helpful, patient, courteous and friendly! Especially Justina and VictoriaSo refreshing and wonderful. Thanks!
Absolute Nightmare of an experience!! Not really sure where to begin. I’ve never been treated so rude by a Maine company. I had to bring my boat back 4x before it was finally fixed. Because I voiced my experience and told the VP about how Steve (the service manager, currently in a management class) had treated me, again the “VP” said we should “part ways”, ie, not to return.Charged me for work it didn’t need. Broke steering line, than charged me to replace. I even provided video proving nothing was broken when dropped off. Didn’t matter in the fall fixed lower gear unit. Started in Spring boat wouldn’t go. They were the last to have it. Dropped boat in Sept, told a couple weeks, got it back in December after snow fell. The gear unit they installed in fall, effected prop and of course, this was also my fault somehow. Said I would see fog from them winterizing, no fog. Charged me 3 hours labor for a oil sensor replacement I said I didn’t need and later proved I didn’t need, other mechanics there verified it’s an hour job max….it’s endless, but hopefully you get the idea.If you have an infinite account and can afford to spend triple what’s needed and don’t mind being treated as a bother for choosing them, than this is your place. But if you prefer a minimal level of kindness and have a boat less than 30’ beware!!! No one deserves this. I even had 3 of the employees side bar with me telling me he’s rude to employees and customers. Horrific culture.I’ve never left a review on a business, but people really need to be cautioned about this one! Mind blowing 🤯
Wow, came down for the maine boat builders show, big place hauling 93 foot barges and such, great atmosphere and work ethic, cleanest facilities by far will certainly be back .
Charged me for work not performed, and for charged for an estimate I never recieved, generally are outrageously expensive. I think they cater to rich boaters, and treat others like they really dont want or need your business.
Nice well equipped boat yard
I was Overcharged, Overcharged, Overcharged. Watch your wallet if you work with them. Even ex-employees revealed how they just log hours for the sake of invoicing (w/o the work being done).
Quality work and quality employees.
Terrible service, over priced, and arrogant leadership - stay away from this rip off excuse of a boat yard
Top of the line outboard service, Steve Talbot could not be a nicer human or better mechanic- HUGE travel lift- friendly yard staff- Dave Hoar, the paint and glass repair, is incredibly talented. Plus they’re build more and more indoor storage capacity so they’ll soon be a go to place for even nicer big boats!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! John really went the extra mile to help us resolve our alternator/charging issues. The staff was extremely accommodating and service turnaround was very quick, during the high point of the season.
David @ fiberglass dept.Is a professional at the best.......
The views are wonderful, so many boats and yachts. The dock is clean and stable!
I had mechanical issues with my trolling motor during the BASS Eastern Regional event on Sebago Lake and Portland Yacht services went out of their way and lent me a spare motor to use for the remainder of the event. Highly recommend Jay and his team to take care of any issues you encounter. Thanks again and hope to meet you guys again in the future.
These guys are knowledgeable, friendly, reasonably priced and responsive. Highly recommend for any size job! Thank you.
Very clean facility
Absolutely the worst service center ever. They take forever to fix your boat and they never call. I dropped my boat off for a stalling issue with the motors. It took almost a month to get it back and wasnt even fixed after paying over $1,700. I had to constantly call the service center to get updates on my boat and every time I was blown off by Steve the service guy. Its clear that the little boats dont matter to these guys. Theyre too busy with their big new crane and all the big boats that cost big money. I would highly suggest staying away from this company for anything. I made the mistake of suggesting them before I realized how bad they were and now my buddy is dealing with the same issues. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and avoid this establishment.
I took my boat out of the water for winter at Portland Yacht Services. I was allowed to work on my boat there. I had a survey done on my boat prior to buying my boat. The insurance company told me to discontinue old unused threw holes so I took out the threw hulls to fiberglass them over. When I went down to check to see if Portland Yacht Services had covered my boat like they were supposed to. My boat was gone, so I went in the office to ask where my boat was. They asked who I was and the name of my boat, so I told them. They said they launched it and towed it to their other facility. When I got down to their other facility, there was my boat, sunk. They did not call me. Their contract says they can only move a boat, without permission, for the boat show or flower show, neither was going on at this time. PYS says they follow ABYC Standards which states all bilges have to be checked for standing water and tight threw hulls... the door on my boat was locked. They did not check anything. They launched my boat to take out the Harvey Gamage. The owner of this boat is Phineas Sprague, the owner of PYS. PYS pickled the engines and dry cleaned the cushions and mattresses. They never changed any wires or rebuilt any starters or alternators they cut the wiring harness on the radar instead of unhooking the wires. Their insurance company totaled the boat and paid just what I paid for the boat. Replacement cost was 1.3 million but because I got a good deal they didn’t have to pay any more than I did. It has taken 80.000 dollars to put my boat back together and 4000 hours. PYS has a lean on my boat for 11,000 dollars. One engine they pickled had a bent push rod which means they tried to start the engine full of water. When the owner of PYS was asked if he was given all the insurance money if he could put the boat back to value that it was when it arrived he said no and he would not even reduce his labor rate... there was water in the fuel when the boat left. It was towed by my lobster boat. I do not think anybody should use Portland Yacht Services. You can’t fight a man with money and lawyers on speed dial. I hope this is seen by the public and next Im going to send it to yelp...
Good people will spend the time with u so job is done right and cost efficient
Portland Yacht Services has been a waterfront staple for decades. Their new location offers a wider selection of services and calmer waterfront location.
The grasshopper is there for 149000 great deal
Good sheltered spot for repairs.
Amazing service by experienced professionals. They treat your boat as if it were there own.
Their facility is very well equipped & set up, with friendly & capable staff
We rented a mooring for our 32 sailboat at this location simply because we were not familiar with the area and did not do much research. The cost of the mooring was a little higher than we expected. There were 3 showers which were really small with no place to put your things other than a small shelf high on the wall with a few hooks. But the thing that was really problematic was the unending rolling in the mooring field. The marina is right at the mouth of the harbor and ferries and tour boats are constantly passing and sending large wakes into the mooring field. We have never experienced such heavy wakes and rolls and it was very difficult to sleep. Our anchor actually jumped off its roller. It was nice however to be able to walk to town and shop in the Old Port.
Great boat yard!Good service, nice folks.
Great service, good staff that know what there doing.
My wife and I were in Portland on vacation and decided renting to look into renting a boat for the day. After calling a few places it appeared that most rentals had been spoken for and our only option was to go through PYS. On the day of our excursion we were told that the boat we were expecting to sail had been having engine issues but today it was running fine. Being that we had already planned our entire day around this sail trip we rolled the dice. After discussing with PYS we wanted to sail and anchor at Jewel Island we were given a map and were on our way. Upon anchoring the boat in a cove of the island we swam ashore for a 45 minute hike. Upon returning to the boat it was apparent the tide had begun to recede at a very rapidly. Within 30 minutes the boat was completely beached. Needless to say my wife and I had not planned to spend the night on the boat but luckily were able to spend a few hours with a couple planning to stay the night on the island. After notifying PYS of the situation and the fact we just needed to wait for the tide to return they decided to send for a tow boat to bring us back to the marina even though we had settled the boat in sand with no pressure to the prop or keel. Once the tide had come in and the boat righted itself they refused to try starting the boat as well as stated neither of the two employees that rented us the boat had ever been to the island or the cove. After they tied up the boat to their tow rig and we made our way in we encountered some wake and the way in which they had secured the lines between the two vessels cause the tow boat to rip off one of the safety rails. As we reached the dock PYS crew informed me that they would need to look over the haul to inspect if any damage had occurred during the beaching but would notify me of their findings if anything happened. One month later I am looking at my cc statement only to find a $1,500 charge from PYS with no notification. Be EXTREMELY careful if you decide to rent from PYS as their staff might know what a boat is but should not be entrusted with renting as they clearly are not working off experience.
The new facility is awesome.these guys do it all
They are great very helpful and knowledgeable.
A vision of excellence!
