Ive been shopping here for about 20 years. The family who owns this shop are very welcoming and down to earth, especially the father and daughter. The items here are beautiful, very good quality, and many things are natural and hand made. They have gorgeous jewelry, great smelling oils, lotions, soaps, clothing, books, ect. I love this shop so much, that to buy my regular items, I travel all the way from Aliquippa, which is about 45 minutes away. I might be able to find similar items from some store closer to me, but theres no place like Jamils! Also, lets support all the local historic small businesses in East Liberty, including Jamils and places like it, who these big companies are trying to push out. Stores like Jamils are part of East Liberty and its history! Dont let big business push out the local/little guy! East Liberty wouldnt be the same without this place!Updated on 3/28/21- I dont get here often, but the last time I came here I asked about Jamil and was told that he had passed, which really saddened me, because he was a good person who had such a welcoming and beautiful spirit!I know his family and the community miss him! He was a good example of how people of different races and religions, can and do, get along with, help, and uplift each other.It looks to me as if his son is doing a very good job of following in his footsteps. This is a family of good people with good hearts, with a store full of gorgeous, unique, and well crafted treasures. Theres no other place around that could compare to its originality and charm! Pictured are 2 of my most recent purchases, which are pieces that were beautifully beaded and hand made in Africa.

It was an easy purchase process. The attendant was experienced, customer-centered and easy to converse with.I was disappointed, the dress I had my eye on was going to be way too long and I would need a seamstress to do alterations so it would fit properly.I did find a beautiful African skirt that had several of my favorite colors: purple, gold and green.

The people that own and run this store have beautiful souls, theyre very helpful, knowledgeable and kind. I highly recommend this place! Some of the stuff seems unreasonably priced but theyre willing to cut it back a few bucks to help you out so thats also very cool!

The concept is nice and it smells good in the store. The layout is terrible. It is cramped and hard to shop and when you do find something that you are interested in, it is incredibly over priced. If youre rich and like hipster stuff, feel free to stop in here.

I shopped at Jamils for years before I moved away from Pittsburgh. He introduced me to some of the natural products that I use today. Attempted to visit on a recent trip but the store was closed, now I know why... Very saddend to hear of his passing. Such a great loss for his family and the community.Sweet Rest Jamil!

I have been shopping at Jamils for a number of years. And this store is a true asset to the black community.We need more stores like Jamils with in communities to Educate and enlightened us on how to take care of ourselves mind, body,and spirit from the inside out. I can remember when I was a small child my grandmother and mother using natural remedies from a plant base source to treat health issues that my brothers, sisters and I would get. Now it is still wise to go to a Doctor to be diagnosed so you can know what health issues that you have so that it can be treated whether you are going to utilizing natural remedies or other wise. If you have not been to Jamils it is worth the trip.

For years I loved Jamils. Jamil was Muslim. His children who were Muslim began running things and it was still great. They had good manners. But today I called to ask if there were boys thoubs and their sister who identified herself as Baptist (which is totally fine) got offended when i asked if her brother and sister were available (because i need something quick that the Muslim kids would know how to get). She literally began arguing with herself. She hung up, i called back to ask how i can get in touch with someone else and she just screamed on the phone saying i was playing on the phone. ZERO idea of what Im calling for because she only screamed over me. Like, it literally was an interaction with a person who has extreme psychiatric issues. To prove what im saying pay attention to this: She never found out what i was calling for but I learned that she is 50 years old, has daughters, she can fight etc etc. Literally what was going on in her head was not the situation AT ALL. She said her daughters were there so i asked to speak to one of them hoping one of them could take control of the situation. She hung up on me again. After all these years Im turned off now. Jamils may have lost a customer because thats a level of crazy that i dont just volunteer for in my daily life.I still rated it 4 stars out of loyalty, but I wrote my review so that the siblings could note how these type of interactions can negatively affect what their father established after all of these years.

I love their natural products but many dont have price tags and I feel awkward to keep asking what prices are.

SOME WHERE ABSOLUTELY GOURAGES AND LASTED A LONF TIME, WELL INTO MY OLD AGE! OTHER ITEMS THAT I PURCHASED DIDNT LAST THAT LONG. BUT I CAN COUNT ON ONE HAND, THE ITEMS THAT I HAD TROUBLE WITH.
