I love this store! It features authentic and good priced Japanese groceries, a clean environment, and always has friendly customer service. They have kitchenware and skincare too! I came here a lot when I was young and Im glad to see its still doing well in this pandemic. Parking is a little tough to get in, unless you have a small car.
Small Japanese market run by Japanese. If you are looking for Japanese food products, I highly suggest you try out this market. Sure you can find some Japanese food products at the other Asian markets, but this shop has a whole lot more. There is a large selection of frozen fish and even sashimi quality fish. I was even amazed to find fresh nameko since I have not yet seen that in the Phoenix metro. I’ll definitely be going back to this market more often.
Having lived in the Phoenix area for 6 years, I have been greatly disappointed with the number of Japanese markets and their limited selections offered.Recently I was near New Tokyo Food Market and decided to finally stop in to see what they had.Well, this was a very pleasant surprise as I found so many items I had been looking for and could not find at other shops.Add to that, New Tokyo is much closer to where I now live than the other shops I usually frequent which makes things even more convenient.I am looking forward to doing more regular shopping at New Tokyo for the duration of my time in AZ before I move to Japan.
When looking for authentic Japanese food items and snacks I find the New Tokyo Food Market to be a great place to be just that. They have a huge inventory of items all reasonably priced with friendly staff and lots of regular customers.
Oh boy, spent 30 minutes just looking at all the different items. The staff were very nice. Great place.
Very good service and you get a lot of amazing snacks and ramen for a very affordable price. I honestly go over there every weekend lol
First time being here and really like the shop! They have all sorts of things here from Japan. I was looking for some Japanese practice material and wasnt sure they would have any since it looked like a smaller shop but they did have some books and beginner material. Will definitely be going back.
Great susi fish selectionCan get full frozen salmon sides/ half a fish and quarter yellowtail loins. Yellowfin tuna and bluefin tuna or big eye.
Had such a great time looking around this shop. Came with no particular intent just to look around and I ended up buying a heaping cart full of items. Excellent selection - snacks, dinners, noodles, and non food items. I found a sauce which led me to google a recipe to use it and the shop keepers helped me to find the ingredients I needed. They were super friendly!! Especially happy about sake / alcohol selection. Got myself some cute headbands and tons of food. When I checked out they sorted my products for me ( grouping the frozen stuff, then refrigerated, shelf stable, and then non food. They even wrapped all my sake bottles and boxed them so they wouldn’t break). I am extremely impressed with this shop. Highly recommend and will be going again.
My kids love to go here to get rice and seaweed snacks. Great spot for this military brat to remember great childhood memories of living in Japan.
Super cute market with some really great Asian food and other household sundries for sale. Its nice having a market like this closer to home rather than having to drive out to Tempe or Mesa for some of these items!
We come here every few weeks to stock up on supplies. Its small, but they have everything we need.
Been coming here since I was a kid, I love this place! They have everything you need, and the family that runs it is so kind and wonderful. Its clean, cute, and has a great variety, even for being small. I hope they stay open forever and the family is doing well. :)
So I decided to go on a sort of adventure to all sorts of Asian markets in the Phoenix area. And this one BY FAR takes the cake. Unbelievably friendly and welcoming to everyone, and a bigger selection of food than any other place Ive ever been to. The woman at the front was very patient checking me out (I had a cart full of stuff) and helpful. Will 100% be back there soon.
The store is cool and gets two stars because it offers the products I remember form the times I went to Tokyo. At checkout I was buying tofu and the cashier stopped speaking English and asked her coworker if it was okay that the tofu had expired. She replied back in Japanese that it was alright. I wasnt interested in embarrassing someone over $2 of tofu but I will let others know how New Tokyo Food Market does business.
3.5 stars really...small Japanese market, I like going there to buy drinks and snacks
Excellent Japanese Market for the area. Extensive frozen and refrigerated foods from Japan.
Used to have to have products sent/brought from family but here has things I couldnt easily get before in this area. Umeboshi, natto, the brand of rice my family uses.... and the staff were very kind and respectful. Will be returning soon to stock up again.
Came here precisely for Japanese snacks and was not let down. I love me some yummy Japanese snacks, and found different Pocky flavors, gummies, and chocolates. They even have they Japan flavor kit kats, ramune (Japanese soda), lots of ramen, and Japanese beer. They seem to have a ton DVDs of some sort. Staff was friendly and helpful. A go to spot for sure now.
Great selection of Japanese food products and such nice staff!! Will definitely be back here.
Small store but carry most popular items. They also carry Japanese beer and sake.
The nicest people and my daughter loves their food
Remember they are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays! ;) Otherwise, have a good time browsing for lots of Japanese stuff. They carry periodicals, secondhand books, and even some free reading materials, so if youre into reading Japanese, this is a great source. It is primarily a grocery and variety store, though, so youll find all kinds of food items, both perishable and non. The freezer section is full of interesting things... Mackarel, miso paste, nattou... Last time I found tofu donuts, which are gluten free, higher in protein, and quite tasty. I even bought seeds for my garden! And of course, you can find soup bases and dashi, and assorted candies. Its fun! The workers speak English, so dont be intimidated.
The market had a great selection of various items. Very clean and well stocked! Customer service was exceptional! Will certainly return to purchase hard to find Japanese items.
Bad odor, staff not very friendly
Amazing selection of many different types of foods and great customer service as always.
Great Memories Come Back About Japan as I shop here and listen to the conversations. Just met a Marine that not only spent three years there, he met his wife in Japan and in two days. . . 33 years of Marriage! Then to eat the food and remember a moment in that Island over 40 years ago, it is just nice to take some time and go back! The people in this place are Amazingly Beautiful people and THAT is what I remember the most about Japan. . .the wonderful and resectful people!!!
I love how this store carries all the goods from Japan. I found some new favorites. I found what I want. This is the best foreign stores to visit. I suggest you take your time and take a look around because you will find something that will catch your interest. Make this one of your best places for shopping.
Love this shop, carries sushi grade salmon and masago!
We were looking for sushi grade squid and was able to find the item here. Great service, clean, friendly and the place for Japanese food items. Check it out. Be well vacationsensei.
I love to swing by here for plum wine and frozen treats. The store is very cute and the people there are very humble.
Amazing customer service. I called to let them know I would be arriving at closing time and they agreed to stay open for me!
My daughter and I love this store! It has all her favorite snacks! Since our first visit she is always asking to go here!! We are very glad to have found New Tokyo food market.
Welcoming, polite, well stocked and primarily I always find what I need.
Everything you could imagine Tokyo related. Some great sticky rice, Ramen, Saki and Japanese beer. The associates working there are very nice as well.
Its like a Japanese convenience store
Best Japanese market we have in the valley. All the other markets are Asian but dont have traditional Japanese foods. This is the most authentic Japanese one and only one on the West Valley.
Run by very friendly Japanese and American couple, it has decent selection of Japanese foods that you can get pretty much any ingredients for cooking Japanese food. It has old school Japanese market vibe that you would not find in NYC any more. It is kind a nostalgic if you are an immigrant from Japan I guess...
The best place for Japanese items ! Staff are so nice !!!!
I always love going here! They are sooooo polite. Its a cozy little store stocked with top quality Japanese products at reasonable prices. I can always find Yama Moto Yama brand nori and very good miso paste. The bigger stores seem to have cheaper low quality products and there is a big difference in taste. This is a lovely store to shop at. I highly recommend it as would my Japanese mother...
They had everything I knew I needed and lots more I didnt know I needed. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was transporting for me. I was surprised by the prices, too. Much more affordable than I expected from a small specialty shop. I will definitely be back!
This is the best Japanese store in Phoenix. Being a Japanese, whom cooks mainly Japanese dishes, everything I need I can get here. Owners are wonderful people as are the staff. They have special ordered items and all great prices. We come here a lot! : )) Location is perfect!
Visiting the New Tokyo Food Market is always an enjoyable experience. Though it may be a little hard to spot from Northern Avenue since it is tucked away in a small strip mall next to a pawn shop, it is worth the visit. My children always begs me to take them there at least once every other week since they change their stock out frequently. Their selection of packaged Japanese food, drinks, treats, specialty items, publications, and other fare is excellent. The staff is extremely friendly. Just be aware if you plan a visit that the shop is closed every Tuesday and Wednesday.
This place is awesome, my new favorite place to shop. It would be amazing if they sold cooked food here, but still awesome. 👍🏻👍🏻
Very clean store and products and very friendly people
No intrest
I absolutely love this place. They have everything from food, clothing, DVDs, books, tea pots, to toothbrushes. The owners are so kind they walked me around the store and gave explanations whenever I needed it, being new to Japanese culture cuisine I needed a lot of help!Would recommend to a friend. 10 out of 10. Great find!
Great little store with kind staff, careful as the parking lot is small. Been going here for years and enjoyed finding the stuff i wouldnt really find elsewhere outside Japan for food!
Items are a bit overpriced compared to other retail stores like Walmart or Target
Love this place. Everyone is super helpful and nice. Premium selection of Japanese items. Frozen foods, noodles, curry, drinks and alchohol. Everything is reasonably priced and clearly marked. I always look forward to my restock shipping trip here. Parking lot is awkward but manageable, just watch yourself. Worth the drive if you are not close by.
This place is so cute and have a ton of different foods, snacks and novelties! We will definitely be coming back soon!
Number one reason and as Ive always put in my other reviews is this lady is so kind and so polite she greets you when you come in thanks you for coming in and thanks you for buying with them I always leave that store happy and with a smile after a long day
Always helpful and really friendly. Great place!!
I get all my stuff for sushi here. Hidden gem is their fake crab. Texture and taste is as close to real as it gets. Great selection of dry goods as well, and some prices are incredible. Staff is wonderful. I go there monthly.
The people are so nice and the shop is small and cute. Its organized pretty well so once you visit enough you know where to go exactly.
I love this shop very interesting when you want to make real japanese food
The two women that work there were very friendly, helpful and peaceful. I will definitely return.
Very nice helpful clean and friendly people..... very welcoming. I would recommend, we are from out of town. My kids loved the selection of origami paper, snacks and ramuné soda. 😁👍
I come to this Market when making noodles.. the market is small and very clean.. and well organized.. staff are friendly and courteous and helfull.. they have produced and many items you would find in a store in Tokyo.. always a pleasant experience.. now the parking area is small.. but well worth the visit.. pricing is $-$$..
Love this little grocery store. Clean and stocked with basic Japanese food.
Lots of Japanese foodstuffs and miscellaneous other things and the people are nice. I really enjoy visiting and shopping here.
A must stop for me before heading back up north. Like the 99 Cent Only store and Cutie! I always bring back a grocery haul. I recommend trying the melon buns by the register. Delicious! Anyway, an awesome but descent selection of knick-knacks, tea, ramen, and sport drinks at this location. Now if the city of Phoenix can open a Daiso Japan that would be awesome.
Cute Japanese market in the avenues! Staff here are friendly and helpful. They tend to carry a few items that I dont normally find in other Asian markets in the area, which is a positive draw for me to return again.
Just left New Tokyo Foods Market and I had an amazing experience. I told them I was making sushi for the first time and they walked me through everything, and even demonstrated how to use a sushi mat on the counter with paper towels and newspaper.Definitely going 6acc. 10/10
Love this place! The store is always clean, food items are always fresh and other items are always good quality. The clerks are friendly and helpful. If you are looking for Japanese items and groceries, this is the place to go!
Great place to grab a snack and some cute bento boxes/accessories. Very small, more like a convenience store than a market. Employees are very helpful and kind!Sad to see this store looks like itdoesnt get a lot of business.Help them out!!
A cute store that is way bigger on the inside than it appears from outside. Setup more like a grocer than a konbini. Wide selection of dry and frozen goods. Enjoyed my visit and will be going regularly.
Great customer service goes A VERY LONG way for me and I received just that here. Lots of selection including Japanese beers. We will definitely be returning to this store!
Wonderful people. I was running late to visit the store so I called ahead they waited for me I even had help finding what I needed. this please is the best store I have been to so far for Japanese food supplys I have been to so many others lee lees and house of rice but this place is the best. it really is.
Staff is very friendly and sociable. They have a good selection of the real Asian foods I cant find North where we live. Pricing is fair and not overly high like many smaller Asian stores I have visited.
I enjoy going to New Tokyo Food Market since they always have the items I need. Most of all, the employees are so pleasant and helpful and always with a smile.
Great place to shop for Japanese food. Very nice and clean store. If you need help owner is always helpful to answer questions! I wish New Tokyo success!
Authentic Japanese grocery store. Inside, not only do they have a wide variety of groceries, but all sorts of books, magazines, dvds, cooking books, imported Asian alcohols, apparel, and kitchenware as well. Of course all of them being Japanese or Japanese themed. The staff there speak Japanese as well so good to go there for if you possibly are learning and want speaking (asking if they have x or y) or listening practice. The books also range in difficulty levels, like childrens picture books to elementary/middle school level books to whats expected of a fluent reader.Instead of calling it just a food market, it offers a very real slice of Japanese culture inside. Very nice to not just get your Japanese cuisine on, but also to get a slight taste of our overseas eastern neighbors!
My second home. Love this place for all the Japanese foods and more.
Superb place to get your Japanese goods. You can even rent Japanese movies and books. Everyone is so bubbly and helpful.
They have a very specific shampoo my wife likes. Great stuff!
Its okay
Cute little shop with lots to offer. I love getting new things from here and the people who run the place are super nice. :)
Very good items, unique, and friendly. pricier than the bigger markets, but worth it. Theyre still open, still friendly, and have just the best stuff as of June 2018
My little lady loves coming here for things that she can only get back home in Japan. Very friendly staff love coming here.
Great new little market specializing in Japanese food, household and clothing items. Though it is closed on 2 weekdays.
Very nice. 👍
I really like this spot. Theyre always friendly and helpful as well as clean as can be! I always spend more time here than I expect because theres always something new to explore. Some of the best things is that they carry Kewpie Mayo, green tea kit kats, multiple miso options, dry goods, and pantry staples. You must make this spot a regular stop on your weekly shopping trips
I just love it here!! especially the dishes in the small back room. u can find some really cute awesome sh´t. great...GREAT SHOP :D
Its nice to have a place to get some of the uniquely Japanese things I cant find elsewhere. The staff is always friendly and helpful.
It was excellent, we drive from Tucson to shop at this store.
Excellent selection of Japanese foods and kitchen utensils.
Great selection of Japanese products. They stock my favorite dressing Angelo Pietro! The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful.
A small grocery store that carries a suprising amount of basic Japanese food essentials. The staff is totally bilingual in Japanese and English language. They have a small area in back with clothing and bowls, cups and teapots, and most importantly a community bulliten board.
One of the only places in the valley to find all exclusive Japanese goods. This store has a great selection and is nicely stocked.
Love that I can get authentic Asian food to prepare unique recipes. I love coming here when I come down to Phoenix. Only downside, parking lot is terrible.
