My friends and I went to the Phoenix art museum on a Saturday. Around noon, it was pretty quite. Parking was easy and available. It’s a large 3 story museum. Fashion collection exhibition was interesting. It was fun to interact with staff who was doing in person survey and asked us which outfit we would choose and why. Staff was very friendly and always there to provide information, history and answer questions. It’s a good way to spend time in Phoenix during hot summer. Spent about 2.5 hours looking through 3 stories. It looked like it could be a nice place for an event venue as well !
Absolutely gorgeous museum, inside and outside. I really loved how spread out this museum is - makes each individual exhibit feel more open and less crammed next to others. The current fashion exhibit about Rudy Gernreich is just spectacular 👌 people were generally pretty quiet, which was nice to be around. Ample parking!
Art for everyone, Free entry 1st Friday of each month! My Wife and I checked this out for 1st Friday which allows free entry. We brought our 3 year old with us and got to see some interesting art.Theres alot of different pieces, from many different eras Im not an art connoisseur, so I wont pretend to be. But I was fascinated that many of the pieces had some lore or back story behind them. If you are into visual story telling, you could easily spend all day here. Having our 3 year old though means we had to move through the pieces rather quickly. While there is a kids section, it was closed when we went, although I dont know if thats excluded from first Fridays, or coincidence yet its something to note. All in all we had a great experience, and with many different art pieces Im sure anyone could get something out of this. Theres a fashion section, civil rights area, and various other themes. Theres 3 floors with connected stairs, and elevators throughout. This was a great experience for the family especially for free. Check this out on First fridays if you are in the area!
Here for work and needed to eat. We were preparing to leave for lunch and it seemed more convenient to stay and eat here. Well, that was a good decision for several reasons. We had an option to eat outside and the tables moved, which allowed us to move more into the shade. The staff were very friendly and the food was So Good!! My salad was just perfect!! Now we may plan a trip here, just for lunch. :-)
I love this museum. If I could Id live in Yayoi Kusamas You Who are Getting Obliterated in the Dancing Swarm of Fireflies and wander out occasionally to just stare at Spring Flowers by Julius Stewart.I have no idea why that painting absolutely captivates me. I go just to see it. Ive tried to buy prints but they dont have the same captivating feel to them.*Some of these photos are of older installations or exhibits that arent out currently
This is one of my favorite museums. So many happy memories of time spent as a family looking at the new art exhibits and talking about how it makes us think/feel/react. The curation is wonderful and it doesnt get any better than pay what you want Wednesday. The galleries are vast and cool and it is so much larger than it looks. Such a great place to go to beat the heat. We visit at least once a month and have been for 10+ years. I love focusing on a specific wing each visit and always find something new to see. Make sure you check out the miniatures as they are amazing. The gift store is also very well stocked and has fantastic small gifts for adults and children.
The Phoenix Art Museum has a diverse selection of art and fantastic temporary exhibits as well as permanent collections. My favorite is Yayoi Kusama’s Firefly Infinity Mirror Room, entitled “You Who Are Getting Obliterated in the Dancing Swarm of Fireflies.” A visit to the museum is a great way to spend a hot Phoenix summer afternoon.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Phoenix Art Museum today. We took advantage of the Pay What You Want special that the Museum has every Wednesday from 3p to 7p. The Phoenix ArtMuseum is the largest art museum in the Southwestern United States. There are exhibits galore on 3 different levels. We spent 3 hours at the Museum, and we were able to see everything. The Museum is well worth the visit, offering a wide variety of art including Contemporary Art, European Art, Asian Art, and my personal favorite, Thorne Miniature Art. Non Flash photography is allowed, and I took quite a few😊. A visit to this Museum will not disappoint!
Great place. Tranquil and art from all over the world.
Exhibits were incredible and museum is pretty big. We spend about 2 hours there. Staff was super friendly stop. They have a scavenger hunt for kids which was a great surprise.
Many enjoyable and impactful exhibits to explore. Was definitely a tranquil way to spend the day alone. I left feeling very relaxed as well as inspired. The facility was clean and spacious. Wendnesdays seem to be a quiet day for a visit. Certainly worth checking out.
Loved this gallery. The Fireflies exhibit and the galleries dedicated to fashion were amazing!
Super fun! Various genres make it very engaging. I particularly like the firefly room, the oriental pottery and the classics.
Loved it here the fashion exhibit was very cool the staff is friendly and know almost anything I love all the art there is alot of Walking but the art makes up for it the firefly room was closed but you can still peek into it great place to go with family some gory and nude paintings but I mean its art so its not too bad
The Phoenix Art Museum is a wonderful place to spend hours looking at the wonderful exhibits. The exhibits change from time to time and there is always something interesting to see. Enjoy the air conditioning and the wonderful time at the Phoenix Art Museum.
Great place if you enjoy art. They had quite a variety of art from modern art, fashion art, to more traditional renaissance art. It 2as a nice variety and even more awesome is first Friday. If you cant afford the fees you can go on the first Friday 9f the month and get in for free so that everyone has an opportunity to enjoy the art.
Love! Had a great time exploring the museum everything from pottery dating back to 625 B.C to 60s fashion and everything in-between.
Havent been here in years. Found a piece I loved and got a taste of what other people feel when they find the art they like 😁
I enjoyed all of them, but some exhibitions at the Art Museum they called a lot of my attention.-Yayoi Kusamas Infinity mirror room, You Who are Getting Obliterated in the Dancing Swarm of Fireflies.-The American and Western American collections. The collection reflects the influence in naturalism stemming from European artistic traditions. In my own words, I could describe it in the following way:Imagine late 18th century to the mid-20th century European art; see the colors, textures, and strokes. Think of all the beautiful paintings you have seen before. Now replaces the Europeans with Native American people and landscapes.
Loved it. Was not as crowded as I thought it would be. Saw some incredible pieces including a Monet. Stopped by Palette on the way out for lunch and the food was wonderful. Service and staff was amazing.
Amazing art museum in the downtown Phoenix metropolitan area with a diverse collection of art.
A great way to spend a few hours appreciating art.
Had a wonderful time exploring this museum. Every staff member was friendly and accommodating! With 3 floors of art it’s easy to make a day trip out of it.
Great quality and quantity in their collection. Yayoi Kasamas Fireflies drew us there, but there were a bunch of other great exhibits, too, including a captivating James Turrell. The North American Museum reciprocal membership is a fantastic deal, of you have it (or want to invest in it while at the museum). Friendly docents, too.
Got a culture pass from the library, which was nice because your entry is covered. The museum is a must visit, everyone will enjoy no matter your age. Great art work, quite space, and many different activities to keep your visit interesting.
Vivaldi Quartet concert was superb!Beautifully presented and peacefully meditative.
Thank god for this museum keeping art alive during these especially difficult times... I will definitely be a member forever. These pictures are from when my aunt and I first purchased our membership in 2017. Enjoy.
Absolutely beautiful museum! Well worth it. I especially enjoyed the fashion exhibit.
What a great art museum. Changing galleries and special showings keep each visit a fresh experience. Great gift shop and small restaurant.
Coming from a museum buff, this art museum definitely met my expectations. Spent 2.5hrs+ and still had to be hurried out before closing time. Id hate to take away from a new visitors experience by posting too many pictures, but heres a few for context :)
Great exhibits. Free for military and family. Need about 2 1/2 hours to visit all floors. Only a 5 minute drive from downtown.
Went to get some inspiration Great place to beat the heat.P.S. Annual subscription is $8 a month for two adults. ; )
Very well laid out. No spectacular pieces but the collection is worth seeing.
Wonderful art museum of a mixture of contemporary and older art. I especially loved the Rudi Gernreich exhibit to learn more about the history of fashion and the connection of gendered expression through clothing. The Violet Protest exhibit is a must-see! It’s incredible. Tickets are a tad expensive, but it’s worth it for everything you get to see.
The fireflies were stunning. I would not have braved ot without my 5-year-old grandson holding my hand.
Super cool date night with the hubby... honestly I would enjoy it better without mask... I wish things were normal again. Great art... not much of a crowd which was nice... remember no flash when taking pictures of the art. We were warned about that.
My wife surprised me and took me here for a date. It was really nice, I’m a AZ native and have never been here so this was super cool to get to see. The museum is huge! There are exhibits that artist come in and paint and or install from the ceilings, floors and walls in the building. Really crazy pieces, some are so huge. There are tons of pictures and paintings done by all sorts of artists. I highly recommend it, super fun place to explore. Wear comfy shoes this place is huge, lots of walking if you want to see it all. We will come back again and see this again in the future.
First time here and I loved it! Amazing artwork and exhibits and adorable pricing! So happy I came here before I moved out of state! 🥰😍💝
Love this place!! So much to look and learn. Perfect for all ages of the family or something to do with friends. I plan on returning with my husband.
Wonderful exhibits, free parking, reasonable admission prices.
They have a lot of great art but Im not sure why this one is on display.
We could have spent hours in here! My personal favorite was the fashion exhibit, though I forgot to take photos in that area.
All of the theater seats had a great view. The sound system was clear/acoustics very good. Looking forward to my next show.
Great museum with a good variety of art!
Nice exhibitions all around.I really enjoyed this cute museum.
Loved it absolutely lovely museum
Nice setting to view beautiful collections of art. Great gift shop
So so fun! Staff were so helpful and nice, we went on a Thursday and it was not crowded at all. Fun time!
Show was great, drinks 🍸 and service great, walk space between rows not so much
We loved European, throne decor and landscapes. The firefly illusion blew our mind. To my surprise both my kids liked and spend time on each exhibition rather rushing out with boredom. Worth the visit.
I learned about them when searching for a sculpture garden (we wanted some outside things to do), so we were disappointed in what we were directed to. If the sculpture garden really was the atrium area... there was 1 sculpture. And if the Dorrance Sculpture Garden was someplace else, then staff should be better informed. That aside, I went because we discovered they have 20 of the Thorne Rooms and I LOVE those beyond belief. The Ansel Adams exhibit was also really enjoyable to see.
Great collections! Youll be amazed to look at so many great pieces of art!
Cool museum & great event!
I went specifically to see the Violet Protest exhibit. My friend Jess and I were 2 of the many contributors. I couldnt believe the creativity of the other contributors. Google Violet Protest to read what the exhibit is about before you go. I also stopped at the Rudy Gernreich exhibit which was amazing.
The Phoenix art museum is simply iconic. The art speaks for itself. The employees are what make the art museum breath life! Everyone is kind and helpful. Everyone from security, ticketing to the docents, they make this place warm and inviting. The art is inticing to come back to but its the employees that make me want to..
Very beautiful museum, with lots of history and spectacular art pieces. Be sure to mark your calendars because the first Friday of every month you will have free entry from 3 - 7 pm! I got to see so much for free!
Phoenix Art Museum always has fantastic art on display. I love coming here when new exhibits are offered. Some of the permanent collections are truly remarkable. I highly recommend for anyone new to the city or just looking for something to do.
Still one of my favorite places.
A lot of art pieces to see. Amazing ideas. Makes you wonder.
Alot of exhibits and many more on different levels
Lovely museum for a special date with that special someone or special friends. My favorite exhibit was the fashion and the fireflies one! Lots of free parking nearby. Galleries was huge which is great for social distancing. Loved my visit and would come again.
Great variety of art. I would have liked to see more art. Some rooms seemed quite empty.
More amazing then I expected and worth every cent.
A diverse collection of art from around the world. If you can only see fireflies, it is totally worth it!
My friend and I came to have lunch at the museum. We didnt visit the exhibits. But parking was free and easy and the museum campus was interesting and nicely laid out with different focus areas. We had lunch outside on the patio of Palette, the restaurant at the Phoenix Art Museum. The food and beverages were wonderful. I had the quesidilla with a side of their beautiful fries and my friend had the grilled cheese. The adult beverages were refreshingly cool and perfectly made; tasty too. We were both very happy with our choices. After we ordered, the food came promptly. Plus each of the different servers we chatted with were super friendly and helpful. Well be back definitely and will bring more friends. Also they had smaller black birds outside (I have no idea what kind). But they didnt bother diners and added to the charm as they hopped on the grass next to the patio. They were super cute. I highly recommend Palette. Sit outside under the umbrellas or in the shade under the building overhang.
It has grown. Love it.
Great museum with exceptional art! My first visit and I was blown away. Most of the staff were courteous. Some could take a class on friendliness. But my overall experience was pleasing! Highly recommended!
Awesome museum. Not many better
One of my favorite places to go to decompose from the world. So much that I became a member and financial supporter of PHX MOMA. Exhibits are great and the art that has been donated are all high quality pieces.
Bravo!! Phenominal selection of art.... from sculptures, paintings, photography, neon & light, to influential clothing designs. My kids always really enjoy the overall experience and gain a greater appreciation for art and individual artists..... thank you Phoenix Art Museum!
My favorite part was walking through the tiny homes. Getting to see creative ideas of making a bedroom, living room and dining room. This place is big so wear something comfortable to walk around in. Tickets were $25 per person which isnt bad at all. Overall it was Fun!
I had a wonderful experience at this museum this weekend. Staff were nice and welcoming. I loved their collection of race cars at one of their temporary exhibitions. I also loved their collection of miniature rooms. I highly recommend visiting this museum.
1st time here EVER and I have lives in Phoenix for almost 30 years. Loved it so much that I upgraded our admission to a annual membership.
Ask about the treasure hunt for kids. We had a blast!!! The art is amazing. Helpful guides at every turn. When in Phoenix CHECK IT OUT. Wednesdays after 3 is donation day, pay as you can.
Impressive displays.👍🏽Outrageous talents by some artists.👍🏽 Some displays left me wondering, how the hell did they/him/she manage that?👍🏽 I felt lack of diversity with the museum.👎🏽I was expecting to see especially Native American art because well its Arizona.🤔 Also missing was a section display for African and African American art.🙁
I absolutely love the Phx Art Museum. They have diverse and wonderful exhibits and frequently spotlight local artists as well. The museum is spacious and beautifully designed.
The photography exhibits are always so beautiful and thought provoking. The exhibit there now is no exception. Marion Palfi has done an amazing work.
For the 5th largest city in the US you’d expect more but it’s not bad either. There is no Native collection, being such a historic state with rich indigenous cultures it was missed.
Some of their exhibits were closed until July 2021. They have an issue with their sprinklers. There was a fashion exhibit that was really cool, you got to see styles from all generations. The staff was friendly and they all wore masks. Hand sanitizer was located throughout the museum and it wasnt overly crowded. I love this museum and the new exhibits they have. The only bummer was the closure they couldnt avoid. Highly recommend for a fun educational outing!
Not for me. Asian art section was good. Fashion and activist exhibits seems out of place in a museum. In and out in less than an hour. Took me longer to travel. 2 stars for free parking and admission.
I became a member. Favorite exhibit of the day. Angela Ellsworth. @landlineangela on IG.
Really nice museum. A great place to go especially in the heat of the Az summers. Extremely gay friendly. A great place to grab a Really nice meal. I wouldnt take young children here.
I enjoyed the peace and quiet most of the time but someone was being loud. I believe security took care of them. But I do enjoy the art. I liked the pieces and how they redecorated and I would recommend.
Mostly modern and contemporary art. If thats your thing you will probably give this 5/5
Toured the museum today with friends to take advantage of two current exhibits - Legends of Speed, and renowned photographer Ansel Adams. This museum is easy to do - meaning large, bright, comfortable, well-laid out, and very importantly, an attentive watchful staff and security personnel who are not overbearing or in your face as can happen (and has happened to us) at other large city museums. The rules are clearly stated and as long as you follow them, you will be left to yourself to experience all that the museum has to offer. Our drive was one hour, and after walking for a couple of hours once there, we soon worked up an appetite and dined (with reservations - I recommend you do this) at the on-site high-end Palette Restaurant - another satisfying experience by the way. The Legends of Speed exhibit was superbly set up and worth the trip alone for us. The Ansel Adams exhibit, while small, offered an unexpected perspective of the famous photographers work - multiple renditions of the same image but with different darkroom techniques applied to draw the eye to different objects within the photo, in effect, showing us how Adams not only mastered his subjects at the time he captured the image, but also how he masterfully manipulated the images technically to achieve a slightly different outcome, at a time when photography was very basic. Entrance fees are quite affordable and they even host days during the week where those with small budgets for this type of experience can pay what they can afford to get in. Phoenix has no shortage of great venues, and the Art Museum stands out, at least to me, as one of the top 10 venues to visit.
Amazing to say the least
Great museum with exhibits changing often. I go at least once a month. Before covid there were lots of activities throughout the month to go, still waiting on things to come back.
A nice selection and a lovely space. Highly recommended. An excellent place to spend time during the day.
Nice museum. You can soend at least a few hours here. We went on a free Wednesday!
