I am recently returning to the Philadelphia area after a lengthy absence. My current residence is a fixer-upper. I am a just-getting-started DIYer. I am familiar with the Box Stores (Home Depot & Lowes). I decided to spend some time riding around the city to take a look & become somewhat familiar with supply stores which specialize in certain building materials. Such as masonry. Which led me to Nolen Building Materials. At first I was taken aback when I arrived. It did not appear as if they even had an office to serve customers. I eventually found their office after wondering around for a time. Like I said, Im a new DIYer. So maybe I dont know simple things such as asking someone where the customer office is.The lady waiting on customers was terrific. As she effortlessly served multiple of us simultaneously. I was honest with her about my lack of experience in planning to build my very first retaining wall. She asked if it will be supporting soil? I said, yes. I added its dimensions (width & height). She rattled off things to keep in mind (such as compacting a gravel foundation) & other code-specific details as she printed out a pallet-ready quote of all the materials I will be needing. Mind you, without me even to think to ask for a quote at all.Whether or not my intened retaining wall becomes a reality or not is uncertain. I may never end up buying anything from Nolen Building Materials. But I do like good service regardless. They deserve my score because of it.
