The donuts were so fresh and warm.. we got the strawberry lavender, cinnamon, and cookies and cream.. next time I will try the fried chicken!

We live a block down from the 2nd street location so we visit often. This day I ordered for my two sons who moved back from Colorado. They did not disappoint. Chili Garlic chicken was great. Ordered the specialty donuts. Banana, blueberry lemon they were great. Highly recommend

Wed heard great things about this chain, and on our first (real) trip to Philly, I knew we had to check them out.Had a couple locations in convenient distance from our hotel, so we chose one and headed over. This one is located in a little residential area, so while parking was free, so it looks like its definitely a get in where you fit in situation, but we found parking swiftly, and walked over.At this shop, you walk up to a window and place your order, and basically leave (youre outside; no indoor seating or ordering, though there is a bench outside).The guy who took our order was excellent. Very helpful in describing the various menu items (especially the donuts), and making recommendations. You MUST try at least one of the hot & fresh varieties (we decided to buy and sample one of each. I liked the strawberry lavender the best).Also tried some of the twice fried wings (kind of Korean style). The zaatar dry rub was subtle, but good, and the buttermilk ranch rub, while much more dominant of a flavor, was also very good.Well definitely be back again on our next trip to Philly.

Donuts here are freshly made. Definitely try their chicken and donut combo it is to die for. Order the traditional flavors but the specials are great as well as you can mix and match. The donut mix is just right as the textures are soft on the inside and a lil hard on the out. Dont expect a long wait here. Just order and to. My friends and I loved our donuts and will definitely be back!

They have a few locations, and we picked the one that is in more of a residential area than a busy center of the city. There was no line when we arrived shortly after 11am. But, it was still busy, it can get crowded very quickly with a very small interior. They have five counter seats, and that is about it. While we were there, most of them were there to purchase the food to go, so the seats were not in high demand.Even though this is mainly a donut shop, they also offer enticing fried chicken. We ordered their very popular Fried Chicken Sandwich, available from 11am. It was smaller than I thought it would be, but I always take quality over quantity. It was juicy, tasty, with a nice little kick to it. We really enjoyed it!We couldn’t just order chicken from a donuts shop, so we got a couple of donuts from their Hot Donuts selections. We chose Cookies & Cream and Strawberry Lavender. We both liked the strawberry one better, since it had better, stronger flavor. Cookies & Cream was good but didnt have much flavor.Definitely a place to visit if you are visiting Philly!

This was my first time enjoying Federal Donuts (besides the one at Citizens Bank Park). I ordered 1/2 dozen hot & fresh. They were perfect. I ordered 2 of each flavor. The only one I didnt get to try was the cinnamon sugar. The cookies and cream was great. The strawberry lavender was to die for. On top of that, the coffee was even good. I will certainly be going back to try some more flavors and Id love to try the chicken one day. This place is a MUST for any foodie in the area.

I heard place from a TV show and thought Id check it out. Small place not a lot of room in it. Donuts are made to order so they are fresh. My girlfriend and I discussed which specialty donut we wanted for a few minutes and then went to order and the cashier said they were out of that donut so I tried to order a different specialty donut and she said they were all out of specialty donuts. She had to hear us debate on which one we wanted to try and could have told us they were sold out. Lets talk about the regular donuts. They had cinnamon sugar, strawberry lavender, and cookies and cream. They were pretty good. Not amazing and a must have but good. Id the service was better Id give another half star.

I just had to find out what all the Hype was about, the doughnut was good, but the chicken sandwich was an Epic fail. Why do they fry the chicken breast so Hard..they kill all flavor. At first, I thought it was a mistake. I called, they instructed me to get another..I returned to get a fresh one & low & behold it was prepared the same way..OVERCOOKED 👎😡

Federal Donuts requires some traveling to get to, and for plenty is a great spot to grab either lunch with its desirable toppings for the delectable, perfectly cooked fried chicken 🍗. I was awarded the three piece buttery ranch flavor that I paid $10.00 to try. Noone told me about this spot, but the fact is I couldnt wait for it to open once I had seen the coming soon sign. Ive tried the cinnamon & sugar dusted, and the original donut and after the first bite I was mesmerized at the flesh of the donut after biting into it. Wonderful eatery stationed cleverly next door to another great establishment.

I was visiting New York and Philadelphia for a few days and heard about this donut shop. I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon hoping to get a half dozen donuts. It turned out that they did not have any speciality donuts and there was only 3 kinds to choose from. I ended up ordering 1 of each. The donuts were ok, not great. Definitely better donut shops around. Staff wasnt welcoming and it was very small inside.

These donuts stay soft and fresh longer then dunkin donuts. They have good flavors, but not a ton of flavors to choose from. But they dont disappoint either.

Fresh doughnuts and coffee to start your day. I love the fresh hot doughnuts. This is one of the best doughnut shops in the area. A must try if youre not from around town.

Great donuts, but lacks variety. Sure, they have a rotating selection of very flavorful (but very heavily iced) fancy donuts. And sure the hot, fresh donuts are available in 3 different sugar dusted flavors (or even without sugar, which is quite nice and actually my favorite donut at the shop)... But, the base donut is always the same master donut (with some slight variations). Dont get me wrong, its a great donut and 99 times out of 100 I want a donut like this over a classic glazed yeast donut, but this will never be the only donut shop you need without the basic yeast donuts.

A+ fancy donuts. They always have a rotating menu introducing new and exciting things. Theyre never stale. Pun intended. The fried Chicken is always super crispy, juicy, and exquisite. My advice is to try as many flavors as you can by going back often because theyre all awesome. Iced and hot coffee is top notch too.

Its mainly a grab and go place, with little seating in or outside its storefront (typical for many doughnut shops.)I liked the varieties that they come up with and the different combinations of ingredients that they put together (Tres Leches, Indian Cinnamon, etc.) - unique and savory captured in a doughnut! I ended up ordering half a dozen for some co-workers, and wished I ordered another half a dozen more for myself haha! Each doughnut can definitely feed two (though why would you want to share?!), and taste definitely matches the size.This place also has a small lunch/chicken menu (explaining their logo) but I didnt really go in for that so not sure how they deliver on that front.There are a few spots peppered throughout the city of this brand and they do have an online presence with pre ordering options (for quantities for a dozen or more) which is always a plus! I would recommend to aim to get there earlier since they only have a certain number of doughnuts that they produce per flavor before they stop selling for the day (bummer!)Lastly, shout out to the girl working the counter when I walked in! She was pleasant and very knowledgeable about the menu and the business (she clued me in on the online website.)Will need to make a repeat trip to see what new flavors they come up with!

I tell everyone going to Philly that they can’t leave without trying Fednuts. Everyone has thanked me afterwards for the recommendation. They’re just so good. Fried chicken comes with a honey donut. We got the zatar flavor and were happy. Cookies and cream donut is also excellent.

The donuts are served fresh and warm. My favorite is strawberry lavender. I haven’t tried any specialty donuts yet. My reason for going to Federal is for the delicious chicken. I absolutely love the chicken sandwich. The best I’ve had! The two piece chicken is also delicious! If I lived in center city I would be there at least a few times a week!

My favorite Philly donuts. Both fancy, cake style and hot, fried type need to be tried. The cake ones are better for takeaway, the hot for immediate consumption. I only wish the coffee was as good. Trek over to Old City Coffee for your beverage.

The best donut selling place. I had this donut and I was so whelmed with these. The place in itself gives such a happy vibe. Everybody at this place is so cheerful and lively. I absolutely love this happy vibe place. 10/10 recommend going to this place on your way to work in the mornings!

The donuts are so good! They make the hot fresh ones on the spot, right after you order! They come out nice and warm! The fancy donut are very good too! I like how they rotate the flavors of the donuts every few months, keeps things interesting. The only thing Im not a huge fan of, was their chicken, I feel like its too dry, hard and lacking in flavor.

You should definitely try this place. It has the best donuts and fried chicken in Philadelphia. It is a little bit on the pricey side but definitely worth checking out once or twice and then you can decide for yourself.

First of all I do not eat donuts very often, mostly because I dont like the flavor of most donuts. I stopped in to surprise a customer with a dozen. At first I thought the prices were high but it was for a good reason. Ordered a dozen hot and fresh. WOW!! Excellent taste, texture, smell....you name it. I was pleasantly surprised. Also need to comment on the cleanliness of the store and the friendly staff. I just might have a new addiction to Federal Donuts!

The donuts are amazing - the fancy, the hot... It doesnt matter. The chicken sandwich is so amazing! Ive only had the ranch dry seasoning so I cant speak for the rest of the flavors in their fried chicken but even leftover (who on the world would have leftover chicken?!?!) the ranch is very good. One of my favorite stops in South Philly.

Middle of the day and staff greeted with a smile. They knew I was a first timer. Chicken breast sandwich so Good! So were the donuts. I couldnt make up my mind, so they gave me samples. I ended up with three delicious donuts. Definitely a place to return to.

Federal donuts is on my wow spots for taking visitors unaquainted with the deliciousness that is a strawberry lavender melt in your mouth freshly made donut. I would have felt like this was a 5 star but recently I have felt like some of their fancy donuts are phoning it in a bit and have not been quite as decadent or inventive.

For A little spot, they do serve a large feasting of people! Get there around 11am and snag yourself the best combo, fried chicken and donuts (well, thats all they sell). I was a fan of the coconut curry dry seasoned chicken. The way the chicken was fried reminded me of some of the local spots in the south I would go to eat, solid. I could have gone with a little more breading but thats just me. The glazed ginger were lightly gazed as well, instead of a fuller wet coat. My personal preference is for the lighter so I appreciated the restraint... Though I could have had a little more concentration in the glaze. The donuts are the champ pairing, a hot one paired with every order. Chomping back and forth on such a tasty treat is well worth the price. The donuts come in two types, hot and fancy. You wont find a large selection but they do make a nice variety. I enjoyed my watermelon cucumber lime donut, but when I got to my strawberry ginger I didnt feel there was any ginger and the strawberry didnt taste that much different than the watermelon. Still, they were tasty and the base cake has a nice creamy flavor and is nice and soft.I really enjoyed this place, I would definitely recommend it.

Ive never had a bad experience from any of their locations. Great donuts (and I usually dont like donuts) the seasonal lavender lemonade is an absolute fave. Great staff and simple and beautiful aesthetic.

Delicious fried chicken of various styles: Korean soy-garlic and Korean spicy are my favorites. They stay crunchy even with a sauce on them. Also check out the chicken sandwich, its really a perfect lunch.

Im sad that I dont live near enough to be a regular. I want to try everything on their menu. I got a half dozen of the hot and fresh; cannot pick a favorite. I also got the buttermilk ranch fried chicken. Everything was outstanding! The service exemplary! The location was quaint even though there is no parking. Next time Ill get a hotel close by and take public transportation or walk. I guess that makes it a destination eatery.

I have tried three Federal Donuts locations in the city, and this one is the smallest, but most homely. The fresh baked donuts are still very good, and the coffee is pretty good. This location has about 4 seats at the bar, so I recommend this place for grab-n-go.

Then, by all means, like a true American wash it down with a donut 😁. They got some really unique and delicious flavors, my fav might be the cinnamon churro donut. But if you havent tried their hot fresh donuts that they make to order, youre missing out. A little on the property side for donuts, but... delicious.

Thats right, this place not only serves expertly crafted and artisan flavored donuts but they fry up some of the best fried chicken Ive ever had in my life. Flavors like strawberry watermelon and banana cream pie mixed with mouth watering fried chicken. Definitely go for the chili-garlic wing combo.Bottom line: Chicken n Donuts, nuff said.

Fried chicken, coffee, and donuts... Not a huge fan of the coffee, but the chicken and fresh hot made to order donuts are legit. A hot cinnamon donut is hard to find in this country, and this place does it right.

What happened?When Federal Donuts first got started what made them special was the hot freshly fried donuts tossed in unusual spices. The taste of Asian inspired spices on a donut was why we came back over and over. I suppose that was too much for others and the flavors that they have now are rather tame. It is as if the edge is gone replaced by safe choices. That is unfortunate.I also noticed that things are hit or miss. Sometimes the donut is fried correctly and fully done on the inside.. sometimes it isnt and you get inedible dough. Hopefully it returns to the old glory.
