The service was good, with a friendly staff. The portion sizes were huge, they feed you at the Penrose. I got the baked meatloaf and thought it was pretty good. My wife got the chicken croquettes and they were less desirable, I think it was because they had a curry taste. They were not your traditional chicken croquettes by no means. My wife also got a crock of onion soup. I strongly suggest that you do not order onion soup. She took a bit and said it was terrible, so of course I needed to try it. I said it taste like tap water and she said, that was exactly what she was thinking, the onions werent even caramelized and the typical beef broth taste wasnt there. This was the first and only place I had horrible onion soup. Altogether, I would recommend the Penrose, but maybe stay away from onion soup, far away.

Penrose Diner has some delicious tasty food with fast and friendly service. The food has flavor and the service is top notch. Cant be beat. Anything on the menu is worth trying and always fresh.

2nd LAYER NO GO. So this is one of my sister and her husbands FAVORITE spots to eat and they told me the deserts were pretty good too. So I decide to get a pecan sticky bun that was 😋 and on POINT and a carrot cake. Now I know everyone cant make a good carrot cake like Night Kitchen, but ...the icing was good, top layer was decent, the bottom layer was wet and soggy like it wasnt cooked all the way if at all...disappointed, but on to the next. I would go back to try an entree and for the pecan sticky bun. Sorry I ate half..🤭

Classic diner experience and the best buffalo chicken Philly cheese steak sandwich Ive ever eaten. Fries were just right. When checking out at the counter, grab the cheesecake. You wont regret it.

August 2021 still got to wear a mask to get inside. Once you wait since there is always a crowd your seated with social distancing rules. The menu is pricey for a diner and your order is delivered in record speed but nothing extra ordinary about the food. Nice place to visit when in Philly but no way becoming a regular

Waitress service was excellent. Very attentive and the food was great. They definitely practice CDC safety. Overall atmosphere, ambiance and service was 100 percent great. I eat there often. Always a pleasure to dine in. All customers are very polite and friendly with each other.

Stopped there for breakfast on a sunday morning and the BEST bar non service we experienced that weekend. The wait staff were friendly and on point. The food was tasty, well cooked and brought still piping hot and quick.

I liked the french fries but not the $14.57 ‘it comes with french fries’ price. Over 3,000 google map reviews, the place was full and am pretty sure no one went specifically for the cheesesteak. The mushrooms spent time on the grill. The rest of the cheesesteak was standard.

I was absolutely amazed at the quality of the meal, its was one of the best breakfast meals I have ever had at any diner. The food was delicious, cooked with love felt like home. I had the Tuscan omelet, the eggs were fluffy and melted in my mouth every bite. The home fries were cooked with the crispness I like, at request, impressed they got it just right. Even the coffee was flavorful, hot and freshly brewed and I had just about given up on diner coffee. Our server named Ylka was polite and got everything just right. She didnt hover interrupting our meal but was close and attentive so when we needed refills and more napkins she was right there. Excellent service and clean covid compliant in every way. Felt safe to eat there properly spaced away from others and disposable menu mats. I was feeling a little down so being that I really needed the outing it was truly a gift to experience such a wonderful diner. I review often sure to give my honest opinion and this is the longest and best review I have ever had the pleasure of writing. Hope you are able to get there and experience the same. My family is born and bred South Philadelphians and were delighted to experience sharing a meal last Sunday. Some of us ordered breakfast, some lunch while the remainder ordered dinner. There were six of us. I had the waffle with turkey sausage links. The sausages were delicious but the waffle was a little on the tough side and the coffee was truly lacking, I didnt order my second cup. All is forgiven for we always come to Penrose when have the chance.

We were there after church on Fathers Day. The were very busy, but they got us seated and served in no time. It’s been a while and today I wanted some breakfast to help keep the day brightened. Ordered pancakes, veggie omelette and scrapple. Home fries came with...they could have kept them.Pancakes are thick. I prefer them light and fluffy but they still fill you up. The omelette was delicious, I passed on the mushrooms. Scrapple - I have had bad scrapple but this was good. The home fries, I guess it is hard to find the blend between well done and crisp. I’ll also never understand why the onions are placed on too and not cooked within but such is life.I have been here before and I’m sure I’ll come again. Writing this review to help me track what I like here and what I would probably pass on in the future.I did enjoy my cup of tea 🍵 with a side of water.

Fantastic Philly diner. I got the Eggs Benedict and some pancakes. I was very happy and it fueled a bike tour of Philly. Fast service, and pretty good pricing considering how much food I got.Highly recommend. Also great parking if youre like me and road tripping. Or if you get a rental car. Other diners in Philly have more limited space. This one has its own lot and street parking in front too.

At first the waiter was rude, I said something to my wife about maybe her judging us of our age thinking we wouldn’t tip which I’m old-school gen-x. 20% is subpar for service industry anything less is only because service sucked. Well she must have heard me cause her attitude changed right around. Food was great, establishment was clean. Food came out quicker then I’ve ever had before. Awesome servers, delicious soups, and tasty sandwiches! Their bloody Marys were nothing fancy, no garnishes just tomato juice and vodka. Not pictured was their cream of turkey soup which was a hit at the table! lots of variety on the menu so go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and youll find something good to try! service was fast and friendly. everyone was dressed for church service or the Eagles game but really though whats the difference 😜

Been to Penrose a couple of times and each time was excellent! Very solid and classic diner food in a nicer restaurant setting. Staff is very friendly and the service is quick. Parking lot is a bit odd but street parking is free

The Penrose is one of the best diner in and around Philadelphia. The food is great, served fresh and hot. They also have a pretty good bakery. My favorite is the all day breakfast. However, the meatloaf and mashed potatoes are out of this world.

I went there with a friend because we were craving for a steak.The meat came a the right temperature but not with the right sides. The waitress was kind but her service not that good. Just ok, nothing exciting about this place

Great service, great menu and really good food, with a really good selection of nearly anything you could want for a common lunch, dinner or breakfast, with the latter being available at any time of the day. The servers have all been very professional during each of my two visits. Yes I will be returning to enjoy more of their menu. You cant go wrong here. My family and I dropped into this diner for a late lunch close to the airport. We all had Panninis, which were really good. Mine was a Tuscan Chicken and fries. The fries were banging! Dont know why, but they stood out. Would visit again because they were nice, friendly, and fast.

I was born and raised in Philly. This place is the heart and soul. So delicious. The food is ALWAYS on point. Service is fantastic. Cheesesteaks are so good, but the desserts are to die for. Bad service ordered a cheesesteak, the server then came out with a chicken cheese steak. Said the kitchen messed up my cheese steak so she brought the mistake any way. Then waited 15 minutes for to go boxes. That we never received. The only time server was attentive was when she dropped the check. Very disappointed with dinner last night. Our waitress, Dana, couldnt remember coffee refills, water, meal came out cold, and when we were finally able to get a different server to take it back to reheat, then the Porkchop was dried out. She brought the check & desert, but never even removed our dinner plates.

This place is big, dont let a full parking lot scare you away. The foot rests at the bar are a smidge high for my liking but doable. People on the shorter side will appreciate them. I had the ham and cheese omelette that was large and tasty. Good value for the money.

I have been a longtime Patron there at Penrose Diner I recently moved out of the city of Philadelphia and moved to New Jersey I was so happy to be back at my old favorite go to restaurant.The service was still great. I was quite fond of the memories that arose in my heart for the restaurant. I must say that the food was not the same. Im not sure if they had new cooks or the old cooks have moved on. I couldnt tell but there was something different about the food. because I always ordered the crab cakes macaroni and cheese which youre used to can only get on Friday and a blueberry lemonade it was very good but something was quite different with that food. Now of days Im learning to move with the times but something should continue down through the years the crab cakes were always my favorite but they were filled with lots of breading and less crab meat the macaroni and cheese had always been so creamy but it was more sharped this time I ordered a double portion it was tasty but not the same memory that I had store up for my hearts memories but the soup was excellent as it has always been and to Peak off my meal with my all-time favorite which always was the rice pudding that Still Remains the best Earth to me I have never like rice pudding but at primrose it was always sure to be pleasing to my appetite I will continue to support and revisit the restaurant time to time but in my advice to the owner and management their is something about preserving the old recipes that I fell in love with the first time I was Introduced to this place it captured my heart. Old is reassuring that we will always love this community restaurant and will go back to it and embrace it in there beautiful new facility and I will continue to brag about it to all of my friends and neighbors and in my new home of New Jersey so my experience this time I can truly can say whats different not bad but not as good Ill be back because I will always support what Ive always loved which is Primrose Diner but go back and have the cooks that made that restaurant iconic and go back to the Natural vegetables and ingredients that I stole truly miss so better luck on the next time for me I will be awaiting and looking out for the changes thank you so much for sticking around and making me and my family feel special every time we visit.

Classic all American diner in south Philly. Menu is expansive. Decor is recently updated and well maintained. Large number of booths. Food is good, not great. Service is satisfactory. Could use more attention to keeping our coffee filled. Has good options for kids.

45 minute drive from home in Delaware and worth every bit of it. You cant go wrong here they have it all, and the employees here are awesome, Lindsey was our server and we absolutely enjoyed ourselves. Nice fast service good food not a lone wait kind waiter

I was walking across the state of Pennsylvania and stopped into the Penrose Diner to get a scrapple, egg, and cheese and the wait staff was very nice. I must say the scrapple, egg, and cheese on a long roll was to die for. I hadnt had that sandwich in 8 years and they did not let down. Thank you to everyone at the Penrose for a wonderful experience.

The staff are quick and friendly. The food was really good. Breakfast potatoes were my favorite. They are more like mashed potatoes and then fried on a flat top. I believe theyre pricey. Short stack of pancakes is 7.99. Thats 4 dollars for each pancake. On what planet does flour, baking soda and whatever else in it cost that much? Even with the facilities upcharge thats alot. The corned beef was a nice flavor, not fatty or too salty. I also dont like the wait in line...it can get hairy since theres two entrances. And when you exit you have to say excuse me a thousand times cause people dont get you gotta leave for them to get in.

The place was packed, line outside but moving swiftly. Dottie, smile even with the mask on was so bright. She was Fantasticccccc. Her positive attitude, warm and inviting spirit is amazing. All of the employees my sister and I encountered were genuinely friendly and helpful I have a physical disability and I use a cane they were very courteous and the food was delicious and served in a very healthy portion the prices were not bad either.

I had a cheeseburger with french fries I gave the place for stars. If it had a better roll. I would have gave it five stars
