Ice cream was decent (we got butter pecan) but $9 for a double scoop?!? Talk about a tourist trap. Definitely not worth it. The Chinese takeout containers they put the ice cream in are cute, but they cause a HUGE mess. Within minutes the ice cream starts melting out the sides of the containers and all over your hands. So we ended up tossing 75% of our $9 in the trash and calling it a loss. Its not worth the complications of trying to eat it quickly enough or the price for decent ice cream.
MUST SEE 🍦 Best ice-cream and ambience in Philly! This old city gem, just off the corner of 2nd and Market is easily accessible by subway and well-worth the wait (there will most always be a line) the vanilla bean in a root beer float is my fave go-to but you can’t go wrong on any flavor, in any format! Their to-go cups come in unique takeout containers matching the quirky, unique vibe of the shop.Enjoy your stay? Stop next door at their sister store Shane Confectionery. 🍬 It won’t disappoint. This location is ideal for families, first dates, or for friends from out of town.
Amazing ice cream. Huge lines. Worth the wait. Also give generous portions. Definitely a local gem.
Saturday July 10. My fiancee ordered a small ice cream and I ordered small vanilla soft serve, both in a waffle cone. Our total came to $20.75. The guy who took our order also made it. He made the soft serve with a cake cone. I remind him I ordered a waffle cone and he says it was his mistake, throws out the cake cone and gets ready to fix it. Black girl working there who had nothing to do with our order decides to look up my order and says I was not rung up for a waffle cone, so theyd have to charge our card another $3.50. Uh, what?! Long story short, she insisted we pay, we refused, and the guy ended up just remaking another soft serve in a cake cone. We were never given a receipt and was told they couldnt print one out. Awful customer service. Ice cream was good, but not worth the money.
The ice cream is so good. The compotes taste as though they didn’t add any gelatin or extra thickener, delicious. The portions are very large. Waffle cones have just a hint of maple and are sturdy enough to support the heaps of ice cream. Boxes make is easy to walk around and eat. Long line, but worth it. Only down side, is that the prices are a bit high.
This place is so delicious that we went to days in a row! The nice thing is that if you go back within 24 hour time period, you will get 10% off your next purchase! They have both dairy and nondairy options, and the nondairy options are coconut milk-based, so you don’t have to worry if you don’t do soy.
I ordered a small vegan strawberry ice cream in a cup and it was a considerable amount of ice cream. It was very creamy with real chunks of strawberries. I wish the vegan menu had more options (today it was only strawberry and hydrox) but I will definitely stop by again in the future.
Pricy, but a fun stop to make your own ice cream bar with the variety of toppings. I would definitely come back.
Visited here after dinner two nights ago. We’d never gone before but heard a lot of good things and always saw a line outside. I ordered a Sundae and my partner ordered a milkshake. We were both underwhelmed. The ice cream was good, but not great. Definitely not worth the $30 we paid for two ice creams.Wouldn’t go here again.
Franklin Ice Cream Bar is not only my favorite in Philadelphia but my favorite ever. When I cost moved here in May, my boyfriend quickly regretted introducing me to Franklin’s. I added extra walks in, just so I could have my ice cream but fit in my bathing suit too! Highly recommend & I will surely miss this place when I move!Check them out!My favorite is Chocolate & Caramelized banana on a waffle cone...omg I want it now!!!🤪👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Icecream was delicious, expensive, and the place was crowded everytime we visit. The Nostalgic decor was lost with the crowd. Would have had 5 stars if it wasnt so crowded.
The coconut and rum raisin ice cream was delicious. I could have been given a little more for the price.
Great ice cream+fudge+brownie towards end of visiting the pier. The guy in the is pure gold, charged my dying phone while I enjoyed the ice cream. Highly recommended experience!
Ice cream tasted amazing. A lot of flavors to choose. It just tastes better there.
Good ice cream and floats. Area gets a plus also.
One of the best ice cream I had
I love that ice cream
Very good place for desert.
Great location to chill, eat some good food. Really nothing but great experiences here, so I will be back. This place has an awesome atmosphere. Food and atmosphere reminds me of Atlanta.
This is a cool little grab and go place in between Shanes Confectionary and the Franklin Fountain. The non-boxed menu is limited, but this helps keep the line short. Its billed as the place to go if you dont have the time to wait at the Fountain. Its the place to go if you know what you want and can grab it from the cooler or are short on time. Otherwise, head to the corner for the full experience.
Waited for milkshake for 25 minutes after already paying just to be told they didn’t have flavor. Don’t understand your system.
We had the pistachio ice cream and the price for it was about $10 I think, I was expected just normal ice cream and nothing special. But I was proven wrong by the size of it, I wasnt expect such a big portion that is shareable for 2 people, your not finishing it alone, unless you want that heart busting feel. The ice cream itself tastes amazing! The flavor and sugar content was just right and I would definitely come here again and get another scoop, I support it.There is not many choices of ice cream, but that is never a bad thing, just the best flavors and choices. If your in the area, stop by and get some, also noting that there is parking on the bridge nearby and super cheap and safe.
I love this place. quick and friendly service. prices were average for the menu.
This place is awesome! With a cool vintage vibe. The girls working there were very nice and sweet to us. I wanted some water ice and their machine didnt work, but they tried to make me as happy as I could be without the ice. Even gave us a little discount because we wanted it and couldnt get it. Recomend! The ice cream is delicious and the waffle cones are so good!
Do yourself a favor and try this place. Service is consistently above par. It has a nice feel to it.
Always the best!!
*Not a review of the ice cream, a disclaimer to anyone thinking they can pickup ice cream from here and bring it back to your home more than 5 minutes away.* We ordered online for pickup, thinking they would come in, you know, to-go containers since we were ‘picking up’. Spoiler: they don’t. They only have the (admittedly cute) paper Chinese takeout boxes. We made an honest attempt of getting the four ice creams for our family the 8 minute drive back, since it would be a shame for $40 of ice cream to go to waste. We called after a few blocks to see if they had more suitable containers, willing to repurchase - the employee was super nice, but could only offer a cup of some kind that they could sit in, I’m assuming to catch the mess. I should have known better and thrown them out then, rather than make a sticky mess all over the car. I’m sure the ice cream is great - the soupy spoonful I tried before throwing the mess out was yummy! Mental note for next time that ‘pickup’ here doesn’t mean true takeout, it’s ‘order ahead and eat it here.’
This ice cream parlor is a treat of an experience. Perfectly fits into the nostalgia of the area. The ice cream is made on site and they have a great selection of flavors. The Medium Cup which I think was two scoops was more than plenty. I dont think I finished the whole thing. Great place for the family and kids. It can get popular real quick, so be patient if you see a line out the door.
Love the vesuvius sundae. Definitely split it with someone, its huge!
You are able to pay with your card here versus at the Franklin fountain which is cash only. Only down side is you dont have as many choices. But still very good !!!! Same owners and they have soft serve!!
So good! Might be the best ice cream sundae ever!
Unique, genuine interpretation on ice cream flavors and more than generous portions. Fun to be served in Chinese food cardboard boxes. Also, if for some reason you cant eat all of the ice cream, there are homeless people nearby who are happy to have the leftovers donated to them. 🌍🍦💜
Very happy that they opened the shop right next door. You can pop in a grab a nice treat and be on your way. Love that you can add whatever toppings to the ice cream bar or grab a pint from the freezer and walk the city.
Lots of flavors and all are taste great. Service is quick considering crowd size. Parking is what it is in Philly, nothing owner can do about that. Its worth the walk to the shop.
I really enjoy the Franklin Fountain. Their ice cream is little overpriced but you get a lot for the deal and it is by far some of the best ice cream Ive ever eaten. The ice cream bar is a totally different story.Ill give them the credit and say that I went in one of their first weeks open, and they perhaps had not worked out all the kinks. My girlfriend wanted milk chocolate shell but they were having problems getting their chocolate to set. Fair, first weekend or whatever. But put simply, it was not worth it. We both thought it was wasted money.Half the toppings just fall off. Theres no easy way to eat the thing. Sure, the ingredients are good, but it is damn near ten dollars for one of those bars. It felt like something I would make at a kids birthday party if the parents had somewhat refined taste, but it still not gourmet. Nor is it particularly creative: the topping choices are very limited compared to the usual offerings at these kinda places (dont expect a froyo-level assortment). For eight dollars I would much rather go to the Fountain. Sorry guys, I know Old City joints are pricey, but this is just too much of a ripoff for me to ever go again.
Very tasty ice cream. Got the Mint Chip. Check out the confectionery store if you get a chance. Very tasty stuff.
Fell in love with this place from the 1st taste. Really nothing but good experiences here. The bill was good for how much you get. Kinda of like a place in Houston that I enjoyed.
Best place in Philly to get an icecream cone. Theres a great chocolate shop next door too with the same kind of style / vibe.
I was so stuffed. The service was sociable and attentive. Similar to a cafe in Las Vegas I liked.
Some of the best ice cream Ive had...also youre able to pay w/ your debit/credit card A+
Folks. I beg you: PLEASE move to a numbered ticket system and give customers their ticket number. The staff are working hard, but no one can hear them calling the orders over the noise from the fridges, the fans, the music, or other machines. Between that and people not paying attention or not remembering what they ordered, this was such a disaster and orders were just being handed to the wrong people. Please fix this.
Creamy ice cream! Loved loved loved rocky road flavor but rum raisins tasted bland. It opens till midnight! They gotta update the Google info.
Some of the best ice cream Ive ever had -- and Ive had a lot. I really need to move betomd the chocolate chip, and I pray for the strength to do that. But no luck so far.
Love love love. So quaint. So cute. So perfect
The ice cream here is good and they have a nice variety of flavors but the prices are a bit rich for ice cream that could use a little more richness. You are overpaying for store location here in Olde City. Nonetheless great place to take an out of towner or some of your boojier friends. At least try an unusual flavor like green tea or teaberry..
OMG! The best ice cream in the world. My husband and I try to go down there every Sunday. Even when were not in the area. There located in center city. Its just that good! They have tables in front of the place where you can sit. And I love the old ice cream parlor dacor. Great place to take the family.
Delicious vegan ice cream !I had vanilla & it did not disappoint.Love the cute little retro theme they have going on and I’m so happy they accept cards unlike their sister store the Franklin fountain which only accepts cash. (Still love the franklin fountain also ! Just, only when I have cash on hand lol)
Great ice cream but a bit pricey
Best ice cream ever you wont be disappointed
Delicious ice cream 🍧🎂🍨
Ice cream was very average and they really skimped on the hot fudge in a hot fudge sundae. Was here as a tourist for the first time and wouldnt go back if I return to Philadelphia.
That butter pecan was something special 😋
Top Notch Quality Taste Refreshing Ice Cream From Yours Truly Carol Carlton
This ice cream was soooo good! Butter Pecan
