Brown Street Coffee is exactly what I love about the food scene in Fairmount. They have a great little coffee shop that would probably survive on its own. Then they add Bahn Mi because why not. They open at 7am and I am usually here around then to grab coffee before work.For my own taste, I am not a huge fan of their coffee. I typically get a black drip dark roast and there is just something about that taste that I usually find off. Why do they get 5 Stars you ask? Their Bahn Mi, plain and simple. It is some of the best Bahn Mi I have had in the US and perfectly prepared on the right bread without too many ingredients.At breakfast, you can even get egg sandwiches on their Bahn Mi buns - which is a real treat. They also have a pretty wide assortment of baked goods in the morning. There is something for everyone.Im not sure why I keep pay $5 for coffee I dont really like. Maybe its convenience. Maybe its the atmosphere. Maybe I like supporting a local small business. Its probably a healthy mix of all three. Regardless, Ill keep coming back and you should too!

Omfg that sandwich was divine. Wanted to take off a star because no bathroom, no wifi, no indoor seating (due to covid so i get it). But couldnt because the service, sandwich, and coffee are exceptional. This place rocks.Update: have been back 4 times. Tried 3 different sandwiches and one repeat. I love this place! The cappuccino is great, they always have pastries, and the breakfast sandwiches are delicious! I especially love that they didnt jump on the hipster bandwagon of not offering almond milk anymore. Staff is great and super friendly, too. My favorite coffee/sandwich place in Fairmount!

If you are in the museum area, better find another coffee shop to walk up to. Coffee was ok. But they dont have any usable restroom..Did not try any solid food. I am sure they are amazing as other visitors mentioned..

Ordered ahead and showed up early. Got yelled at and told it would be 30 mins til I could get my coffee. Wouldn’t have minded waiting but getting yelled for showing up early when I placed my order for ASAP? Completely unnecessary. Asked if I could cancel then since they were rude AF and was told “gladly”. Like, got it dude - You hate your job. Happy Sunday; See ya again never.

We have lived in the neighborhood for a year and our BIGGEST mistake has been only getting coffee from this place. We just had two sandwiches today for the first time and 8 hours later were STILL talking about them. So good.

Tasty but disorganized. One time my order was ready for an hour but they didn’t alert me and then another time they missed an item (bagel and cream cheese) in my order and then took 20 mins to make it. Great place to work while you grab a coffee or a tasty lunch. Second time here, bit were great. Went for a chicken banh mi and hot cocoa today. Both were great. Wife lived her food too. Service is also really good. Good ambience.

Friendliest people, and most delicious tofu banh mi! I have been coming to this place for years and the quality has stayed consistently excellent the whole time. So glad to have them in the neighborhood.

Their listed prices on their website as of late May 2022 is still not reflecting their actual prices. We’ve been here twice times and let them know each time. We mostly order the sandwiches which are a dollar or two more than listed. The first time we both got bad stomach aches and those sandwiches were the only culprit..... but we tried again due to proximity to our home and selection limitations (and also bc it did taste ok) and they second time we were fine. So it’s hit or miss. Also sometimes the sandwiches are mild and sometimes they are inedibly spicy. Probably won’t go back.

Good banh mi but they only have three small tables and sometimes its a twenty minute wait for a sandwich.

First let me say this rating is on pretty much one employee. I like the owner and the coffee. So i go there yesterday late around 1pm and realize i dont have my mask. I let him know im vacinated then ask could i grab a coffee? He says no. There was no one in the store. So i ask is there any way he could make it and bring it out to me? His response not really. So i leave wondering had i been the typical kind of person that lives around here would he have went the xtra mile. Not to mention i would have tipped him $10. But i dealt with him before and both times i didnt like his vibe.

Always having the top notch coffee here, love the changing coffee menu. Food is always very nice, although it is on the pricey side. Service can be a bit slow with just 2-3 people.

I live 30 minutes from this place but somehow Ive found myself here 3 times this week i had the pork, chicken and Korean beef vietnamese sandwiches and they were amazing. My last time here i tried the blueberry and apple tarts and they are some sort of little buttery delightful piece of heaven not too sweet it was just right. Already planning my next visit

The banh mi are very tasty and affordable and they also make solid bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches at a reasonable price too. Not like some other coffee shops that charge u extra for cheese and bacon and a bagel and wind up charging you like $9 for a sandwich that should be $6-7...

Really fun little cafe near the Art Museum with vegetarian friendly food and drinks. I always get the tofu bahn-mi and they are on point. They also have tasty pastries and breakfast style sandwiches. I havent delved into their drink menu beyond a soy hot chocolate but they have great smelling coffee. A great place to drop in for a to go sandwich or hang and enjoy the ambience. The staff is also really great, they are all so friendly and helpful.

I used to love this place but they are super cheap with food. This was what I got when I bought a bagel with tomato (which I paid extra for). Want an alternative to milk? That’s possible but only with an upcharge for the substitute which they serve you in a shot glass.

This guy is an idiot and knows nothing about owning a coffee shop in a neighborhood. We just moved into the neighborhood and the bathroom is being renovated so sometimes we have to run to the corner coffee shop. We get coffee there often but his attitude is that we have to buy something every time! There is better coffee just one block up. Not going back.

This morning I decided I will not be supporting this business any longer, after watching the man who I am assuming is the business owner (based off a negative Glassdoor former employee review) verbally attack one of the baristas.This is now the second time Ive witnessed him being extremely rude to his staff and also customers. He creates a very hostile environment and should not be managing a team. There are ways to provide feedback that do not involve embarrassing your baristas in a store full of customers. It is very clear that microwaving eggs is too much for this man to handle along with the idea of treating people with respect.I really hope these employees can find a better work situation for themselves because they all deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.

Worst service in the area. The owner kicked us out at 5:40, saying that they closed at 5:30 but took our order anyway. When I called him out on his hours as posted on Google he said they took last call at 5:30. Well never go back.Edit: The owners response to my review is bizarre and alarmingly stalker-esque, not to mention untrue. I have NO idea what hes talking about with a banana and drinks. Very strange. But I have nothing to do with reviews in my profession. I work in the field of web analytics. But that has NOTHING to do with my review. Its just smoke. And intimidating patrons with replies like this only reflects poorly on the business. We were treated disrespectfully and lied to, and thats why I left the review. When we were told the shop was closed, I asked what time they closed because people were still coming into the coffee shop after we left. And the owner said 5:30 and added we served you anyway - as if he had done us a favor. It was only after checking their Google page that I saw they closed at 6. And the danish was of the quality of a pastry youd buy at a convenience store. It was dry and cakey.
