I’m not exaggerating when I say this is my favourite bookstore of any I’ve ever been to. Before I moved to Philadelphia, I absolutely was the kind of person who wanted a local bookstore within walking distance, where you become friends with the owner and buy more books than you need, and that’s exactly what I got. The owner has never steered me wrong with a recommendation, the events are a joy to attend (even on Zoom!) the selection feels like it was meant for my tastes, and the decor (and resident cat) create the best ambiance. When the first wave of COVID hit, the shop started doing a booth at the local farmer’s market, which turned into a wonderful Saturday habit. They also offer local delivery, which I love, and their site is super updated and easy to use so that you can continue to order while staying indoors. Could not recommend this shop enough!

Amazing little gem in Manayunk!!! Please go support or shop online until they reopen! They have many amazing books, even some obscure treasure finds, and even have a spiritual section with gemstones, florida water, incense, herbs, homemade soaps and so much more! And the shop cat is so cute and friendly ♡♡♡

I love this store. The employees are all super helpful and accommodating, as is Queen Calliope herself. It doesnt have a Barnes & Nobles-sized inventory, obviously, but they do have nice curated reading selections by their employees. The occult/witchcraft nook is a fun and appreciated touch as well. If youre into supporting local businesses, this would be a great place to start.

Great place with a solid selection. Whatever you cannot find the staff is willing to help. I went to an event there tonight and it was a great time. Manager went out of her way to welcome and accommodate everyone. For sure will be attending again .

This is a bookstore with a heart and a brain. I LOVE this shop and all that it offers. New books, treasured old and used books, comfortable chairs to review all of the books that I need, Poetry readings from local artists, so many varied supportive events . I just cant speak highly enough of my favorite, caring book store deserving of a rating much higher than a 5. Ann, the owner consistently thinks outside of the box to keep this a shop that we must visit. She cares about literacy and the importance of a good book. This is not your grandmothers bookstore.

I cant say enough good things about The Spiral Bookcase. They have a great selection of books, plus the ambiance in the place is pleasant- quirky yet friendly. I particularly enjoyed browsing the staff selections. Also, the store cat is adorable. I cant wait to bring friends and family here when they visit Philly!

I popped in here a couple of weeks before the holidays, looking for Christmas gifts for the bibliophiles in my life. I found a number of very gently-used/new possibilities that were all under $15 each. I also spent a good twenty minutes exploring the jewelry and sundries table in the center of the store before settling on a couple of really cute, handmade necklaces ($25)--the kind where the pendant is an old piece of a dictionary page highlighting a cool word. Cant wait to come back and spend more--on myself this time!

Amazing little place for book lovers and book likers. This little shop is full of surprises. You can find second hand popular fiction as well as the heavy weight classics of literature. They host events featuring local authors, poets, and artists. They even have a sweet little cat, Amelia. If you cant find a specific book or author that you are seeking, just ask Keenan for recommendations. If you are clearing out your bookshelves you can donate your old books or trade them in fir store credit.

Cute little book store! They had a pretty good collection and could ask the desk person to search their program to see if they had a specific book. Quaint and nice, prices are on the top right corner of one of the first few pages for reference!

In these chained up times, this REAL bookstore is so great to find. Strong on foreign fiction, strong on experimental, HUGE on art books, I try not to buy fantasy and occult, but thats impossible here. The Spiral staff are also the kind of people who read read read and can hand-sell you a book for someone based on your description of them. Then, when you finally step outside with too many books, youre in Manayunk with lots of places to end up with a coffee or a beer to start flipping those pages. Ideal way to get here: train or bike.

Really cool, hidden gem sort of place. They have a super chill cat that hangs out (and is even featured in a book about bookstore cats.)Its a bit on the small and cramped side, but that adds to the charm of a bookstore.
