This shop is excellent! They have all kinds of parts and service all makes and models.Ive been a mechanic for over 10 years. If I or a friend wants something unorthodox done, they are ALWAYS my first recommendation.A truly classic bike shop, itll have parts for your bike, even if it dates all the way back to the 1800s with wooden rims! They also have excellent collector bikes and commuter bikes available, and a full catalogue where they can order in almost any part.NO ONE ELSE knows bikes like this shop does. They are truly the best bike shop Ive ever been to anywhere in the world, in over 25 years of riding bikes. There is a fair bit of clutter, but Ive never seen anything go missing. You need a bike to get to work? These fellas will make sure you have one and will make sure it lasts forever.
My review echoes all of the positive ones below. Curtis tuned my bike up speedy-fast. Was super kind and went above and beyond to help out an amateur rider new to the city. This place is a local institution for a reason—and I’m happy to call them neighbors.
Great guys, super friendly, and they provide excellent service. I came in to get a tune-up. I havent ridden my bike in like a year...my tires were flat and my chain was all wonky. Curtis did an evaluation on the spot and said it didnt look like it needed a full tune-up but a few tweaks and that it would probably come to around $30. When I came back to pick it up later in the day, he said it needed less than he thought and charged me $20 instead. He could have easily said I needed the works and robbed me blind and I would have just been like, HERES MY WALLET. Must be why theyve been in business so long. It was also nice chit-chatting with him and Brian while I waited. Will definitely be back!
Ive been here 2-3 times, each time for a flat. Having a nearby bike repair shop is important to me because I have absolutely zero interest in learning how to fix a bike myself, even if its a small issue. Id much rather pay somebody else to do it and gain the benefit of a minor social experience in the process. On that note, Curtis is very friendly and seems to be the type of guy who knows everybody in the neighborhood and greets them by name. The bike shop closest to me -- which I wont name for civilitys sake -- is across the street from me. However, the owner is so rude to me I cant fathom going there for anything more than pumping air. Hauling my bike to Via Cycle is negligible in the grand scheme of things if I want a truly positive interaction.Another great thing about this shop is that they will usually attend to your problem on the same day. Before I discovered Via Bicycle I went to another close shop and there was a day turnover when it came to fixing a flat. Of course, this is a huge inconvenience for people like me who use their bikes for everyday commuting. Via Bicycle is typically busy so it might take a couple of hours to get your bike back if you have a flat like I did but certainly not a day.All in all, I really like this place!
Best bike shop in Phila. Dont miss this terrific shop for all your bicycle needs.
I love Via BicycleThey have been there for me many years.I also like the fact that they can deal with the crossover between vintage and new.My choice of a bicycle shop.Steve O
You will never forget the owner of this place, a truly kind and hardworking man. He will not only look after what you need to fix on your bike, he will also check that everything is fine. Best bicycle service I have used in the city
Everything you would want from a bike shop. Curt connects personally with everyone who comes in. He knows bikes and isnt afraid to teach you about yours. Just dont expect to be in and out. That thoroughness, personal attention given to all and the popularity of the place means you may have a worthwhile wait.
Great shop and affordable. Turn around times can vary based on demand but both bikes I had left there for a full tune up there were ready within a few days. There are cash only!
I drive past 7 bike shops to get service @ViA.Curtis is the best.Courteous informative staff.
The man who runs this fine establishment is an absolute genius and one of the finest people I have ever met. Thank you so much for everything that you do for our community.
Best place Ive been to for a used bike. Curtis and team are dedicated to their craft producing quality bicycles from used ones. I was after a training bike for a triathlon and they hooked me up with one that will serve nicely and tuned it up & fitted it out with exactly what I needed.
Relaxing ride on a beautiful night quiet, soothing, and unforgettable.
Best used bike shop in Philly. Thousands of used bikes to choose from. Great service, great repairs.
Best bike shop in the world. I keep coming back for repairs because the attention to detail is never forgotten. If you want someone to handle your bike with care, someone who knows their stuff and someone who is committed to their craft and service then come here.
Friendly knowledgeable courteous respectful personnel. A plethora of merchandise. An awesome repair team. Highly recommend.
Curtis is an absolute legend. I brought my commuter to him in a panic at 5 PM after someone had inadvertently bent the front chain ring to the point where it was unrideable. As soon as I got there, he calmly walked inside, grabbed a wrench, and beat the ring back straighter than it probably ever has been. Then he grabbed me a shot of scotch to top it off. I had bought some odds and ends before from Via (they have an endless supply of old bike replacement parts), but when it was a matter of whether I’d be able to get to work tomorrow Curtis was available and fixed me up in less than 10 minutes. Support your local bike shops!
The best service my bicycle has ever had! I have an older French bike which requires knowledge and parts not every shop is equipped with. Big praise for the work and care given to my bike and me!
The place just seems under staffed. I called ahead to see if they had time to fix my flat. They said yes. I rocked up a little past opening and there was already a line. Given the pandemic I have stopped taking public transport since a certain part of the population are assholes and wont wear masks. Ive had flats before. Takes not so long to fix. They told me I could have the bike back within the hour unless it got busy, in that case end of day. Nearing 5:00 I called because I hadnt heard anything. The guy on the phone just sounded annoyed and overwhelmed. They had it for me first thing the next day. Its a flat. I had to miss work over a 15 min job.The whole thing cost me just under $20. Which is a fair price. They also tuned up the bike. Making sure it is in good working order. The guy who took my bike has annoying white guy grandpa humor. The work itself is fine. They just need more staff so the work can be done same day. Ive never had to wait to get a flat fixed before. So in short, the service itself is good, just dont expect it to be immediate. Expect your bike back next day and you will need to follow up.Update: I continue to being my bike here because of the proximity to home. The bike always runs much better after coming here for service. I just wish they had more convenient hours. Id you arent off the random days theyre on its hard to get service.
Curtis is the man! Best shopkeep in the city
I have needed a tune up since the Spring but it was something that I put off until I just started running into problem after problem. Some time around mid-Summer, I went to Via Bicycle to see if I could get my problems addressed. They informed me they had a backlog of bikes to work on (because of Covid) and couldnt promise a date when it would be completed. But still, they didnt completely turn me away - they took my bike for a quick ride to see if there were any glaring safety issues and thoroughly oiled it up. Since then, I have been back twice for a puncture repair and finally for that overdue tune up. They did a great job and with fair pricing. But one thing that was noticeable was Curtis, the kind of guy that seems to know all of his patrons by first name. He took great care of the issues with my bike, even when I unknowingly showed up on a day the shop was closed. This is definitely a local business that I am happy to support and hope to for years to come. Thanks so much!
Cool guy fixing bikes for everyday people. Was send here by a competitor in town because the part i needed wasnt in stock. The guy here went to the back and got the part and replaced it in 3 minutes. Very happy with my results. It might be a hike but worth it, i live in montco and i dont see myself going anywhere else. Peace
Let me preface by saying I have over 10 years of experience working sporadically at bike shops (Never this one).I stopped by because I needed a slightly obscure part. They exist, but for several reasons, are sometimes hard to find, and in the pandemic, most bike parts are hard to find. I brought the broken part in, and the mechanic spent a few patient minutes looking for a suitable replacement. When he found a replacement, he told me about the minor differences, what to look out for when installing, and other things to look for as a result of this damage. Usually Im irritated by unsolicited advice, but the care and details were polite, and ultimately helpful. Thanks for helping me get my old bike rolling again.
Great bike shop, especially if you have an older bike that might require some non-standard tools. Totally reasonable rates and exceptional service. Will be taking my bike here again for sure. Definitely recommend.
The workers theyre are Amazing but the owner...... I watched the owner berate this poor girl who was trying her hardest to make customer happy... I dont who she was but thank and curtis shame on you for treating people like that on these time.... I hope a new bike spot open near my so I never have to witness this again
A rare and special place. Bad reviews may be due to cyclists inexperienced in the vintage bicycle world. This is not a regular bike shop although they serve most of those functions. This is a vintage bicycle shop complete with a wide selection of unique, interesting and rare vintage bicycles for sale and a world class collection of parts reflecting nothing less than the history of bicycling itself. Can you imagine a store that you could walk into and purchase a car or motorcycle from any era? A fifties Ferrari or a 1930’s BMW motorcycle, including all the period parts to correctly maintain it and hop it up? This place is the pedal powered equivalent.I build vintage bicycles and this place is a gold mine. The harried owner should be forgiven transgressions. Scouring the country for loads of antique cycle parts to maintain his amazing stock must be especially trying when confronted with yuppies demanding the generic service of the big box dealers, which generally, Via provides. There aren’t many places like this left in the world. I haven’t visited since the move. Grateful they’re still around.
They always take really good care of my bike. Also very fair with prices for repairs. Cash only but theres an ATM right next door.
Called to see if my bike could get serviced for oil, tire change and checking gears. The mechanic who picked up responded by stating that he doesnt have time to explain how long he would take to fix this. Unfriendly and not so transparent customer service.
Was a customer until I was ignored for other customers. Was given a warranty on parts and labor for a repair and they did not honor it... there are plenty of other bike shops in the city that will give me better service and honor their warranties..!!!
They were kind and they have reasonable prices
Waited in line. Showed him a video of my bike I wanted fix and he just cold left me and went to the next person. Not a good place. Sounded grumpy and passive aggressive. Looking for the next bike shop now. Peace
This is the bike shop to go to if you have a vintage bike. Other bike shops treated me and my bike weird because of the age. I really enjoy/prefer vintage stuff and the owner of Via gets people like me. They saved my favorite bike. My previous bike mechanics failed to mention the big problem that was just fixed but they did try to sell me a whole new modern crank even though the original one is fine and just needs new rings. Curtis told me exactly what I needed to replace and what symptoms to look for for certain repairs. They do great work and really know their stuff! They even lent me a bike to use for work while my bike was being worked on! Awesome business! Also worth a visit if you wanna see some really special vintage/ antique bikes in their collection
As a small, gay woman I usually like my bike shops to be vetted for me before I go. But sometimes youre standing on Walnut and Broad with a flat and a full day of dog walks to get to. this is the only place that was nearby and open.I have to say I was thrilled with the experience. my bike is in really rough shape but despite that and my gender I was treated with the utmost respect and not at any point spoken down to. They got my flat fixed up quickly and at a reasonable price. I will definitely be considering this place when its time to replace my bike.
Very cool guy, helped me to find the right tire for my bike
Got set up with a 1970s Swiss made bike, it rises like a dream. Free air and oil! Their repairs are solid and they dont try to rip you off. Theyre great knowledgeable people, and cant say enough positive about them.
Prompt service and very friendly
Great old school bike repair! The owner (?) Is a delight.
Very helpful, Curtis takes the time to explain stuff to you which I value. Fair prices except sometimes the older bikes feel a lil overpriced.Other folks have commented on being ignored for other customers. From my vantage point, Curtis tried to serve everyone while being respectful of your time. My problem needed a long explanation and in the middle a gentleman came in who needed a patch and a new tube. Curtis took care of him and went straight back to me. I think it’s a fine way to do business and I wouldn’t have wanted the other guy to wait extra long for a simple transaction. Normally when more guys are on the floor it’s not a problem!
They know how to service vintage bicycles, especially bikes made in Holland. I had an emergency during the Philly Tweed Ride in 2017, my guy took the time and made sure I was able to get back on the road. He didnt even charge me, talk about customer service? Good people indeed.
Awesome selection of old bikes and the owner is incredibly nice and helpful.
Very neat shop and something from another Era in a positive way
I’ve been loyal to Via for over 15 years now, I hope they’re around for as long as I’m able to ride a bike. You cannot beat their prices, their inventory of used and vintage bikes, or the friendly-but-direct staff.
Its definitely the best bike shop in the world! The guy in the shop was super nice and set me up with everything i needed for my trip from Philly to NYC for a very good price.
Knowledgeable no nonsense shop with great service
My bike wasnt shifting correctly and the gears just werent working as efficiently as they could causing me to work harder. My brakes werent as tight as I wanted them either making down hill riding a little precarious in wet weather.I brought it in and told Curtis the issues and within 2 hours he was finished the work and my bike runs super smooth. Makes my commuting to work and getting around the city much easier now. Will be back in the future no question.
Hope VIA To Soon Accept Various Payment Methods For Product and Service Purchases
Bought an old Araya, and got a quote from a bicycle shop for $140 for repairs! Via did it for $123 which INCLUDED new tires and other features the other shops price did not cover. Curtis was super friendly and very knowledgeable, and Im more than happy to recommend this shop.
Owner was rude, insulting, and extremely unprofessional, does not care about customers. He only wants to see you something g that you do not want to up sale an item to make a profit. Make sure you are the only customer when shopping because the owner will leave and help someone else with out warning.
You must go here for all of your used bike and even new bike needs. the owner will be up front and honest, some people may not like this, but they have taken care of me for years. i will be coming back.
Do your research before allowing them to fix up a bike for you. I had an old Astra from the 70s. I first took it to Community Bikes and Boards and they told me right away that its not worth fixing. I wanted a second opinion so I took it to Via. I should have been more aware of the motives here but they cheerfully said they could fix it up, and knowing nothing about bikes, I happily took the news. The total cost was ~$200. Long story short I went back to Via twice within 6 months and the second time the repair costs came out to $200 again! This time they decided to tell me about the old parts on my bike, how they arent made anymore and how I should probably updgrade to a more modern bike. I wish they wouldve told me that in the first place. And I wish Id listened to Community in the first place. I feel swindled.
Amazing people truly there to help you.
Walked into Via Bicycle shop with my bike without calling or making an appointment. In 1.5 hours my bike was dropped off, my breaks were fixed, and received a call saying my bike was done. Outstanding service and very friendly. Would recommend Via Bicycle to everyone!
Good people i love the old style bike shop look
Besides the fact that Curtis is a complete a****** to his employees (which any former employee could attest to), my recent experience here has me vowing to never go back. Went in to get my rear tire and tube changed, and knew immediately after looking at the new tire that if you blew on it the wrong way it would crumble (It was literally half the width of my front tire). Sure enough, after barely 20 minutes riding it, it received a clean puncture right through both the tire and tube (something I have never had happen to my bike in the 4 years owning it).Went in the next day to receive a replacement of a proper tire for my bike, which to his credit, the mechanic was very understanding of. However, Curtis would not hear it and was insulted that I suggested I receive it free of charge due to both the fragility of the tire and not receiving the proper one in the first place. Presented my receipt and demanded a refund, which he would not hear.So essentially, instead of this shop eating $14 in the short run and reinforcing my lifetime respect and loyalty to the shop that I originally bought my bike at, theyll have to eat that loss and any other potential time that I would have spent my hard earned money there. Will never go back. 0/5
The owner was really helpful and very kind, make you feel like home:)Even gave the customers some watermelon wile we wait for him to fix the bicycle.
Have an older bike that needs work? Need a part for your vintage bike? Via is the place to go.
Nice store with a cool selection. Employees very helpful.
They take care of their customers and sell solid used bikes.
This is a wonderful bike shop!
Owner and employees were all very helpful even when they were crazy busy. Got my peugeot at a great price
Super speedy and knowledgeable
Very nice. Very knowledgeable. Highly recommend!!!
Ive been going to Via Bicycle for 20 years, and they know me by name. They always take good care of me and my bike.
More used bikes, than you can imagine. NOW ON SOUTH BROAD STREET.
They are very rude and expensive. Went in with a flat tired in the back and they called me that there was a cut on my front tire... there was not cut when I brought my bike in. Ill use someone else services from now on!
First bike stop last bike stop. Curtis is awesome.
Place to fix, repair all kind of bikes and shop for used vintage bikes also...friendly
Good people, good place
It was alright

I love this place
Seemed Pricey, Aces on the free air and oil!!!
