They have many original pieces here ! Even if the prices are a bit high remember we are supporting a community based business! Uhuru was great! I got a very nice dresser and was able to have it delivered the very next day into my bedroom at a low cost. Ali was very helpful and everyone at the store was kind to us.

Great items, terrible organization skills. I messaged and left a voicemail to purchase an item and somehow someone else managed to call over 12 hours after me and bought the item. You should not provide the option of messaging and voicemail if no one is checking the inbox or sending misinformation to buyers. My claim came first but I still managed to lose out. The woman I spoke to called me by three incorrect names and even admitted herself their process is flawed. I just won’t bother to purchase again.

Wanted to donate 3 items contacted them on Tuesday 9/15 they got back to me the same day. We scheduled for a Saturday pick up (9/19). I received a call when they was close to my home, even when something happened with the truck at the top of my block they called me, they let know what was going on with the truck. When the 3 people from Uhuru came to my home they was professional, on time, courteous, respectful, and we even had a nice conversation while they was removing my donation items out of my home. If I need to donate things again I will be contacting them again.

I absolutely love this store! I love that their mission is about empowering the black community and I like knowing that my money is going somewhere that will make a difference in the community. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they have the best prices on great quality items and unique collectible items & other cool stuff that you wont find anywhere else. They also make beautiful painted furniture with African designs! I definitely recommend anyone looking for affordable, good quality furniture to shop here and support this store.

The application and screening process just to be able to donate furniture suggests that they are really not interested in getting your furniture. Call the Philadelphia Furniture Bank. They are much more appreciative and the service is great! They are only interested in getting a check and nothing else.

This review is about their moving services. Terrible! I moved with Uhuru twice. The first time was great: quick and easy into a studio apartment. The second time I hired them to move me move out of that same studio. The movers came late, high, and not ready to work. My friend and I moved most of the stuff by ourselves while the movers sat around breaking down all my furniture which I specifically asked them not to do. One of the movers ignored that request which made the move take around 4 or 5 hours in total. All my furniture is broken, because the movers had no idea what they were doing. When I talked to the store manger and assistant manager, they were both incredibly rude and condescending. Those two have zero customer service skills.They remedied the situation by giving me a $120 free couch, but their movers ruined about $400 worth of furniture. I honestly love supporting Uhuru but would never recommend their moving services and would avoid having to interact with the store managers, who are honestly just two rude and entitled women clearly trying to get over some white guilt, while they help run this otherwise nice shop.

Unfortunately, I can not recommend this organization at all. I reached out to them two weeks before I needed to move out of my apartment for them to pick up a dining table as a donation. I received a response within a few days and they expressed that they could pick it up the following week. I didn’t hear from them again, so I followed up and asked if they were still interested in picking the table up because I needed it gone by that Friday.They agreed to pick it up Friday evening between 5-6pm. Day comes and I wait the hour and I hear nothing from them, so I call because I thought maybe they didn’t have my number. A man answering the phone confirms that the drivers do in fact have my number and that the team is running behind but they will call when they are on their way.I wait another hour and still nothing. So I call back, and a woman answers the phone saying that she was “just about to call me”. She explained that I unfortunately the team will not be coming to pick up the table because they got backed up due to the rain and they hit traffic in Center City and are now over time. Mind you, my apartment was about a block and half north of the store I was donating the table to...She asked me if there was another time the following week that they could come and pick up the table, I explained that I need the table to go that night (Friday) because I was moving that weekend. I told her I had limited availability the next day because I had to work and because I was moving out of my apt that Sunday. She said that she would have some one call me before 10:30 when they open to see if they could fit something in on Saturday or early on Sunday.Next day comes I don’t get a call until 10:45am, remember I was told I’d receive a call before 10:30am, and the person offers up a 10am time slot the day I’m supposed to move. I told her that I could have someone else to take care of it because I didn’t want to be put in a position, where I was stuck with it because they were having another issue or they decided that they didn’t feel like taking it.I don’t know if this is how they normally behave, this is my first time utilizing them and it will be my last. The complete and utter disregard for people’s time and money is ridiculous. My recommendation: proceed with caution.

Uhuru had a fantastic selection of furniture. They carry everything from sofas to dressers to rugs, along with a great selection of art. The folks there were incredibly friendly and accommodating, and they deliver. Not just delivery though—they carried my brand new (to me, and absolutely beautiful) dresser up two flights of stairs. As a recent transplant to Philly, I’m incredibly excited to have learned about them. They support a great cause, and their customer service is next level. I couldn’t have been happier with my purchase, and I’m already planning to go back for future purchases. I wish I could give them 10/5!

I used to love this place. I celebrated this organization because they use to have great prices that were unique, quality driven, and affordable. They did all of this for what I thought to help a community of people. I never questioned their integrity until I went to the new location.I can’t say that they are not a nonprofit, but I question how much of the money is attributed to the people they say they are helping! The prices are now crazy!!! Marshals, Ross, and at times even Macy’s have better pricing, quality for NEW pieces. It is of my belief that they either have changed executive directors or have just lost their way. I do not believe that the majority of the dollars spent is going to helping people. I believe most money on every dollar contributed must be going towards ownership of real estate, salaries, and operational cost.In essence, it is of my opinion that these people could be avoiding paying taxes via the use of this entity. I believe (this in my opinion) that Uhuru could be a way that helps lower cost on other initiatives. It is my sincere belief that these people are now exploiting the people they say they are helping!

The store overall is a gem. You can find a lot of reasonable prices on very high end stuff. They are a non-profit so a lot of the stuff is donated but you really cant tell because the quality is very good. Ameer helped me he is good with his customer service skills. If you have questions hes somebody in there to ask everybody is good but hes really good. Hes very down to earth very calming energy from this man.

Uhuru sells quality used furniture. They have a variety of styles from modern to Victorian, depending on what donations come in. My friend bought two dressers, a bookcase and an end table, all in good shape, for about $500.

Awesome service friendly staff. I went in on a Friday and purchased a few things. On Saturday I came back and saw something else I wanted. I asked if what I already paid for be applied to the other I wanted instead and there was no problem. Awesome place.

Trying to find cheap furniture is difficult. Buying new is very expensive, especially for couches. Quality and price are two things you normally cannot get together when looking for couches at least. However, this place seems to be perfect. There is a large selection of donated furniture, mostly difference sized couches, dressers, side-tables and tv stands.I bought a couch that usually would cost $600+ usually at a normal store for only $160 total with same day delivery. I would definitely come here again if I ever need another couch.

They propably have good buys but you cant see an ything. Too much stuff piled in a little store. I was looking at a sofa but I couldnt really get to it because it was stocked with another couch on top of it. The legs from the other couch was digging into it.

African music welcomed us and a gentleman greeted us warmly.. Eclectic pieces of furniture made me think of all DIYs I see on social media and procrastinate about. Most pieces are beautiful as is but lots can be repurposed if youre crafty . Friendly staff,didnt hover but available for questions.

Fair warning to anyone considering about giving these people your business. They attempted to sell me a couch that was totally soaked through during a rain storm. I know this, because the couch was outside getting rained on while I was in the store. Then, they sold me a different couch, and later refused to take it back (as a free donation) because of upholstery stains that were there when they sold it to me.Avoid at all costs.
