I have mixed feelings about this AAMCO. It took me 3 visits (spread over nearly 6 months) to get my brakes fixed properly.Initially, I visited this AAMCO in July 2020 because my brakes were making a weird sound. They quoted me something like $1000. I thanked them, said I was going to take it to the dealer for another quote check out the competition. The AAMCO owner and asked if we could make a deal, since they needed the business. We negotiated on $800 cash and I left the car with them. They had the car for 3-4 days. Finally, they said it was fixed. The paperwork indicated that theyd worked on the rear brakes, as well as replaced a master cylinder and worked on the rear rotors.Im glad they also a warranty, because it wasnt fixed. Over the next few months, the brake noise persisted. By then, Id moved to a new town an hour away, so it wasnt easy to get back down to this location in Pasadena. But in January, after the brakes were getting noisier and squealing, I brought my car back to this AAMCO to get it right this time. But after this viit, the brakes were STILL not better. In fact, it seemed worse. The car was now making a high pitch squeal, ceasing only when I applied the brakes.A few weeks later, I called AAMCO again to complain that the work STILL wasnt done right. The owner pledged to get it right, that it definitely could be fixed. I agreed that it COULD be fixed, but expressed doubt that THEY were the ones to do it, and asked if they could arrange for another shop to do it and honor their warranty. The owner asked me for another chance, so I brought the car back down. Finally, on the 3rdvisit, an AAMCO corporate guy happened to be there, and promised to get it right. I left my car with the guy, arranged yet another rental car so I wouldnt be stranded if this ended up being another multiple-day stay for my car. I was prepared to leave it there as long as it took, and refuse to accept it until the noise was gone for good.By the end of the day, my car was ready and the noise was FINALLY gone. When I asked what they had done on this visit, the answer was pretty surprising:Apparently, on the July visit, the original work wasnt ACTUALLY done on the rear brakes. Even though the papers said they worked on the rear brakes, the AAMCO corporate guy claimed that theyd actually worked on the front brakes INSTEAD, and improperly documented that on my paperwork. So he finally got the rear brakes done, which had been overlooked since July, and which is apparently where the problem was all along.I was pretty upset to hear this, and dont understand how this shop messed up on fixing the original problem- in fact, fixing the wrong areas of the car- yet charging me a pretty penny for it.Not only did they get it wrong the first time, they failed again on the second visit to catch their initial error, and released the car to me without having made any noticeable improvements on it.Im glad that the work was finally done, but I would rather have had it done correctly six months ago by somebody who was more careful and diligent about their work. The experience was sort of like going in for surgery and having the doctor operate on the wrong side of the body, and then realizing the error and operating on the correct side, and then saying that its all good, because the original problem was fixed! But they ignore the costs of the lousy work that preceded all this: the several days worth of visit, the rental car expenses, etc.The lesson Ive learned: go to a dealer next time. It might cost a little more but it would probably have been a one-day repair.
