Wow, they must have thought I grew up in palo alto or had money spilling out since I own a volvo. Asked for labor cost to have timing belt/water pump on my C30 (I have all the parts would just rather pay for it to be done) after an awkward silence was told $720 for 4 hours being $180 per hour! The performance shop I go to to get ready for track days charges $150 an hour and gave me a 20% discount the first time I went. Seems like there was no fixed rate or anything did not feel like I was a valued potential customer at all. I’ll continue going to my preferred shop, was really hoping to find a regular daily driver mechanic with a decent wage but man this guy thinks he’s lightning mcqueens pit crew.

Clearly the best Volvo mechanic west of Sweden. That is what i was told before i ever went to Say Ray, by another European car mechanic in Mountain View. I have never been disappointed. Honesty, fair prices and professionalism always. Im on my third Volvo since i found Say Ray because i dont want to find another mechanic. Its hard to find perfection twice. These guys are the best!

As long as I can remember Say Ray has been the GO TO place for Volvo owners out of warranty. In my last in warranty check up on my 06 S60-R the dealer found about $7500 in wear items that needed immediate service for safety. I got a second opinion from Peter at Say Ray and three years later, most have been taken care of as necessary for about half that. And the car handles like new. Struts on an R are critical. They were still safe but not tight when I finally replaced them.

You cant find a better place on the Peninsula to take your Volvo. Much like you want the best General Practitioner to see your children, we have always preferred sending our Volvo(s) to Say Ray. They are amazing in their work, honest, and up-front. I have never been hassled or let down, and even though we live in Washington State, I am sure that we will be driving through Palo Alto to be sure that our cars have their annuals done by Say Ray. Ive been going to Say Ray since 1990, and tried other mechanics in Palo Alto too. Ive never found more honest and competent mechanics anywhere. They will not do a job without discussing the upsides and downsides first--great at explaining things. I wouldnt go anywhere else for my Volvo or Prius.

Say Ray is one of the best shops in the area, the only thing is they only work on Volvos. So if you have a Volvo, you better take it to say Ray best Volvo mechanics in town!

Ive used Say Ray since 1989 to service my four Volvos. Theyre at least at good as any dealer Ive dealt with - and often better. One of the dealers I occasionally use wasnt able to do a particular test because they didnt have a tool that Say Ray does. The people at Say Ray know me and my Volvos and what my priorities are. They tell me about things to watch for the future and dont automatically assume that every defect needs to be fixed / replaced.

I continue to buy Volvos because Say Ray is a superb shop that specializes in Volvos. I am always pleased with the honesty and professionalism. Peter is very helpful with questions unrelated to cars brought to him. This shop is a gem. I hope they stay in business forever!
