Excellent selection and prices. Picked up 2007 Viader that was well priced! Cold storage on-site. I will definitely come back!
Wine cellar is the best!! Larry is super knowledgeable and has wine for the regular guy or the sophisticated wine connoisseur. Tell him what you like and a price range and he will find something great for you!! he definitely avoids carrying wines that are available in big box stores which means he has some great unknowns.
Nice and knowledgeable staff. Larry is always making great suggestions. His weekly email special is always a great price. A little hard to find...tucked away in the corner but what a great wine shop
I read some of the less-than-positive reviews and they deterred me from stopping here. Shame on me. There is an incredible wine and spirits selection here in two large rooms- more than the photos let on. The owner is knowledgeable and helpful. I’d much rather shop here than Garfield’s since the wine prices and selection are better. I bought a couple bottles of mid priced champagne that were very good. This is my local now!
Impeccable customer service. My first time in and the store owner helped me track down one of the two bottles I was looking for. When he didnt carry the last bottle, he searched its local distributor, found out where they have it in stock, turned out to be one of his competitors, and wrote down directions for me to get there. Great customer comes first mentality. Will definitely be back.
Great selection of wines, new and older. Prices are a little high but not unreasonable.
First of all, Dennis B.s review cannot be of Palatines Wine Cellar. I have to assume he meant to post regarding the Wine Cellar Outlet in Schaumburg which sells obscure wines at several tiers of low pricing. While that retail store was interesting to browse my first visit, it wasnt for me.The Wine Cellar in Palatine has an extensive selection of wine and more. (Craft beer, etc.) Customers can find reasonably priced bottles to enjoy as well as more expensive, rare wines from around the world. On Thursdays, the bar (yes, there is an adjoining bar and space for private parties), offers themed wine tastings. It is also open on Friday evenings. Its a friendly, cheers-type atmosphere where you can relax, enjoy some wine by the glass, and of course, friendly conversation. I highly recommend stopping by!
Larry was condescending when asking about their selection of bourbons. He lied and told me that other stores would not have what I was looking for and to not even waste my time searching... not true I just bought a bottle 3 days earlier... I confronted him with this fact and listened while he stumbled over his words... This guy likes to be mister know it all. A week later he has the bourbon in stock. If anyone is interested it was George t Stagg. .. The price was over three times that of retail. The bottle retails for $65. He currently has it for sale at $159...check it out on his website.... Beware of price gouging
Larry has all the good stuff!
The wine sold are wines that we have never heard of. Although we are not sommeliers, we do know a little about wine. The prices are dirt cheap which instantly raised the hair on the back of my neck. We bought four bottles. We dumped four bottles down the drain into the septic tank. All the bottles tasted like vinegar. When I asked how they can sell their wine so inexpensively, the answer was that they buy a lot at a less expensive price and sell it economically. I add this correction, it tasted like they bought damaged, destressed, or discontinued wine cheap because nobody wanted it and then sold it. There is no tasting bar...I was confused about this but now I know the reason why. Once you taste bad wine, you wont buy it. While we understand that sometimes you get a bad bottle, it happens at every winery, but all 4 bottles were bad? All four?My wife cooked with a Chardonnay and the chicken had a sour after taste.Bottom line, this is a place which thought they could pass off crap wine to dummies and get the sucker to pay for it. They got me but wont again. But dont listen to my advice, go yourself and purchase bad wine at cheap prices and either try to drink it and have cramps or pawn it off on your friends and when you see the faces they make, try to act all uppity and say that they dont know good wine when they drink it.Sorry about being so blunt but this pissed me off! 4 bottles and all bad? They wont stay in business long and they should not be unless they change their selection. Go to Jewel, their prices are great and when you buy 6, you get 10% off your total. Name brands and stock is always fresh.
Great selection and expert advice.
