I advised my friend to go to PGS Gold & Coin in Palatine after she said the thought of going anywhere in Chicago to sell a 92 year old’s silver trays felt too dangerous. Ive driven past the huge gold urn outside their business and PGS’ website was well laid out, and informative. A woman came to the door and when she said they were closing, I groaned, prompting a man from PGS to ask where we’d come from. When they heard we came from Chicago, they agreed to see us. You can imagine our gratitude after enduring expressway traffic and a short storm! Thanks to the unknown man for asking!Judith at PGS was a breath of fresh air and kind enough to look at my friend’s plated silver, something many places won’t do. As she weighed the trays and bowls, Judith explained that it’s difficult for smelters to extract the thin layer of silver from them. This affects the price per pound, since you get paid for a fraction of the total weight of the items. My friend was very happy to get a fair price and we were delighted to be treated with respect since these weren’t gold coins! Out of three precious metal/coin shops Ive been to, this is the best by far. If you’ve had bad service at other places—don’t give up! Judith at PGS is a jewel!

We were looking to sell flatware at a good shop without feeling like we were being taking advantage of. Based on the current reviews and other things we saw on Google, we decided to try this place out. We did not know the ins and outs of what we were trying to sell but did some basic research before coming here. Once we arrived, we were greeted with kindness right away. Aaron saw how many things we had with us and explained from the beginning what he was going to do and why. He also explained and showed to us about knives in the flatware not being fully sterling. After going through all our items he gave us what we believed to be a fair amount for our items. He explained the breakdown of it and what they do with the items once they pay for them. Overall, Aaron was very straightforward and explained the process in full detail to us. We would definitely go back here if needed.

Couldn’t have had a better experience. They paid me top dollar for my gold bullion and it was fast/painless. Don’t waste your time elsewhere, my own Jeweler wasted my time with lies and nonsense and gave me $650 less for the same amount of bullion.

Not ImpressedI went to the Wheaton store and expected more than a pawn shop. I realize one will never get the full value of any coins. However, to be told what I had was worth nothing more than bullion, after spending considerable time looking every coin up (knowing a little something about coins) was insulting.

Unprofessional precious metals business at its finest!The only reason that I came to PGS in Palatine July 2019 was due to a price match of silver American Eagles by another coin shop. Verbal acknowledgement of $18 per coin price, over the phone, with Teresa falsely insured me of a fair transaction. Upon entry into the shop the price was changed to 18.67 for the purchase. Aaron, the manager, allowed for an extremely unfriendly and dishonest excuse for changing the price on site. Not only that, the spot price reached 16.55 on July 24th of which was known, yet jacked up because of pure unadulterated entitled greed! I provided receipts of purchase for American Eagles @ 18 and silver rounds @ 17 as promised when speaking with Teresa prior to my visit. Mr. Aaron and Mrs. Teresa did not stand by their word, upsold their inferior product and provided a hostile exchange maintaining a position of greed the entire time. PGS locations consistently over charged premiums on products every...single...time. When calling other coin shops in comparison, PGS locations were consistently $1-$2 more than competitors. The American Eagles purchased in this unique business deal were mainly culls, heavily circulated and oxidized. Some coins were in decent condition but otherwise not worth the headache that was caused by mistrust and bad business practices of Teresa and Aaron. Suggest all customers buying or selling precious metal products to go elsewhere. You will pay more, get less and get worked over by these so called precious metals dealers. Unusual experience. My Aunt and I went to PGS Gold & Coin as first-time gold/silver buyers, and not really knowing what to expect. We were a bit surprised to find a ratty hallway that looked like a great place to catch something awful, leading to a shop that had, seemingly, no gold or silver or anything in any of the display cases.Not really having anything specific in mind on what we wanted to buy, my Aunt and I asked if they had any sort of item list, or any items we could see. We were told that because of covid, customers cant handle any of the gold. We were then asked in a very rude voice by the possibly spastic woman behind the counter why would I let you see my inventory list?, as though asking a store about what items they have for sale is the worst thing one could do.Overall, one star experience, which was pretty much expected given that it looks like a one star dirtbag of a building off Quentin.

I called over to the Palatine location today to get a price on selling American silver eagles since spot price is high and physical demand is low. The lady on the phone told me that they are selling at $37.50 each. And they are buying $1.50 back from spot which was about $27.07 at the time. That is over a $10.00 spread in price difference! What a ripoff. She should be ashamed for trying yo take advantage of people that way. Truly ridiculous!

I had a lovely experience with Laura (pretty sure her name is Laura). She was so nice and pleasant to work with. I told her Im a nurse and she thanked me for what I do! As nurses we dont hear thank you as much as we should. I brought in a few pieces of jewelry and she explained the whole process to me. It was actually quite interesting. I walked away with 213$ bucks and felt very good about getting rid of what I had. If in the future I decide to sell more Ill definitely be coming here.

Spot silver was over $28 today and I contacted Fox Valley Coin in Warrenville where I bought my Maple Leafs. They said they would pay $14 and change for each. I then called PGS in Wheaton and they paid me $26.89 each. PGS store manager, Susan, treated me like gold and was a joy to do business with. Fox Valley Coin will NOT be getting anymore of my metals business. I found PGS to be forthright and enjoyable to do business with.

This was the first time I sold scrap gold and silver, lots of odds and ends after clearing out old jewelry and silverware. Aaron waited on us and was professional and efficient. I checked pricing prior to going in and thought I was given a fair price.

When I called them to sell my gold, they offered $150 below the spot price. Most of gold dealers will offer you spot price or very close to it. They trying to take an advantage of the crisis we are at.

Sold them some silver coins. Terresa was very helpful and made it easy. Fair prices paid.

I called yesterday and spoke with Teresa on the phone. She was very nice and informative but the bottom line is the prices were way too low. I had silver eagles I needed to sell to get cash for along with some gold scrap jewelry I dont wear no more. I went elsewhere and got a big difference in price she gave me.

Very fair deal. I was going to get a valuable coin graded and put it up on the internet for sale. That would have required a cost and time. I went to PGS just to get an idea of what I might be able to get for the coin at a local dealer. I expected to be low balled and they gave me a VERY fair price. I accepted it and felt very satisfied and surprised. I fully expected to get a rip off offer and just walk out. Believe the other good ratings this company gets. Bottom line is they will give you a fair price.

I have used this place twice, the first time i was so pleased i brought my parents to it the second time. We basically sold silver on both occasions and the price they paid us was very fair. Actually, given that the competition and other stores didnt even understand this type of silver, they didnt want to deal with us. The other stores only buy Sterling silver because they have some idiot behind a desk looking at a book. At PGS, the owner is VERY knowledgeable not just about silver and gold but also antiques and market demand. He tests the object whether it is stamped or not. He looks up the meaning of the stamp regardless of country of manufacture. He also is willing to take in interesting pieces in some cases.Finally, in both gold and silver, he offered me the highest rate in town. Dont be fooled by We buy Gold signs...go to PGS and talk to Aaron...he will take care of you. I will be back here soon with more stuff.
