We ordered a motor for our coaches launch. (We a rowing up in the Chanel Islands harbor) They helped us with transportation of our launch. They cleaned our launch and installed the new motor and control box so fast and with so much expertise. I will only buy from Specialty Marine. Such an amazing experience I wish everything in life was like them. Awesome

Have been taking my mercury outboard here for years now. Never have they tried to sell me on anything and have been honest, I wouldn’t usually write a review but seeing the two negative ones below me, I had too. Never got bad vibes from this place, I have recommended friends here and they were always happy with the work done and never had problems. I drive from Simi Valley here and wouldn’t take my motor anywhere else.

Completely Disgusted by this shopIf you don’t have a Honda outboard or generator then I strongly DO NOT recommend using themThey are not certified outside Honda’s outboards or generators and do not know how to diagnose. Not experienced and unprofessional.

Been taking my boats to Specialty Marine for years. Great service for a reasonable price. Recently my kicker was getting hard to start and wouldn’t stay running when it did. Took it in a few days ago and got a perfectly running engine back today. Great service, great price. What more could you ask for!

I have used this shop for over 5 years and have found Eric Peterson, the owner, to be honest, reliable, and very professional. Deal with Eric and you will not be disappointed.5-16-2019: Its been a couple years since I last posted about Specialty Marine and Eric continues to go above and beyond. Recently I launched with my grandson looking forward to a day fishing at the islands. After leaving the dock we realized we had no steering. We buttoned up and intended to leave the boat at Specialty Marine as we have experienced exceptional service from them for years. Eric immediately jumped on the boat and diagnosed the problem. After bleeding some air that had gotten into the hydraulic steering, we were sent on our way. They saved the day and we experienced that precious time together on the water. I would not take my boat to anyone else for service or repairs.

I have bought 4 new Honda 225 Motors from Eric and his crew. I searched the country for the best price on Motors and found Specialty Marine was by far the best value. (And lowest price) The best part is they are close to where I keep my boats. I have been very happy with the service program, which is nothing short of amazing. I am a life long boater and will always be a customer.

Eric took good care of me as a young commercial fisherman. He always fit me in next-day, and even helped me out on a Saturday. He gave me his cell and answered me most every time Ive called. Always very timely and knowledgable, I am thankful for such an outgoing mechanic. I will certainly return to him if my Honda gives me any more problems! Was about the leave the dock for a quick vacation over to the Channel Islands and my Honda was sputtering. I called around 9am and they took me right in and cleaned up the carburator and had me back on the water by noon and saved the day. Really grateful for how professional and quick they were.

I purchased a Honda 5hp outboard motor from the fine folks at Specialty Marine in January of 2018 and I cant thank them enough for the amazing customer service I have received from them. Several times due to bad fuel I have brought the engine in unable to get it started and they have dissembled and reassembled the carburetor right there on the spot and fixed the problem. They stand behind their products %100 and the customer service is exceptional. I highly recommend them to anyone who owns a Honda outboard.

We received professional service. Repair to our engine completed as promised and at the original price quoted. That was 4 years ago. Still runs great.

This is Eric Peterson, owner of Specialty Marine. I would like to address the comment made by Theodoric Dodgeville. My records do not show that he ever even came to our shop (unless the boat was brought in under a different name). I cant address his specific concerns because he doesnt list any, other than to accuse of removing a fuse to his stereo. Come on, Im a very honest guy, we would never do something like that.

The worst experience I have had at a boat shop yet. The 1997 outboard that I have had for over a year had a fuel problem while we were on vacation in Channel Islands. I thought we could have this shop look at it since they are the Suzuki shop listed in the area. The mechanic bad mouthed the work done by my local mechanic who rebuilt the engine 2 years ago. Telling me that fuel pumps were installed backwards and plumbed incorrectly. Since I work on my own engine as well and personally replaced the fuel lines myself I know this not to be true. The problem we worn reed valved in each pump. Had nothing to do with how they were installed or plumbed. To replace two fuel pumps and a thermostat cost $916.00. They charged me 5 hours labor on a job that should have taken 2 or 3 hours. They were never friendly, never apologized for bad mouthing my mechanic, nor were eager to help. The boat stopped running 20 minutes after I put it back in the water after these guys got done with it. Go figure. I dont trust them with their work, the time they charge to do that work, or the results of their work. I will not take my boat back to this place EVER. After my boat failed to run after they got done with it, I took it out of the water, put it on the trailer and brought it right back to my mechanic. All else equal, I would rather be frustrated by a boat motor with a good mechanic on the job rather than have to deal with a boat motor AND a bad mechanic. I do not suggest using Specialty Marine at all unless padded rates and poor service is your cup of tea.

Eric gave us an estimate over the phone for what we thought needed to be done and he did the work finding one small additional item to do and got the boat back to us when promised without any additional unnecessary recommendations. We will definitely go back.

Eric and his team have helped me many many times over the last-minute 10 years on multiple boats. I have bought several motors off of them and Ive always gotten first-rate advice and service. the mechanics there are ver knowledgeable and have helped me through severally problems that stumped other shops . if you need to repower or you need service on your boat this is the only shop in town that I would recommend and Ive been to all of them

Bad experience got work done.flywheel and starter and other services. Lot of maintenance work on boat and plus out service. So starter and fly wheel went out one year later, and all after market parts. Use only couple times and they had no help to get it fixed they wanted ro charge full price. With no real reason why just excuse. Not to fix a problem. Not a good boat seevice shop find a different shop.

Had a very good experience at this location with repairs on a boat. The job was done in a timely manner an was done right the first time.

If you wanna get RIPPED OFF, then this is a great place. Find another shop and save yourself the headache.From not doing the MAIN thing the boat was there for,simple oil change, to just bn blatantly dishonest. They have it covered here.You decide: The next time I take the boat out the stereo has no sound. Hmmm. I take it to a stereo shop and after going through the system,they find an amp with no fuse. No chance it fell out, it must be pryed out.I think they were trying to generate future business. You decide.

I took my little generator for service it was shaking and running rough.When I picked it up it was running exactly the same as when I brought it in.They are Yamaha dealer therefore they should know what the problem is and how to solve it.When I pick it up all they kept on saying wasthats all I can do they said its the carburetor yet they never call me during the 3 days they kept my generator to inform me what the problem was or if it needed to replace any part.Also they make you pay before testing the machine.And if that was not a enough, just to replace the oil and the spark plug they charge more than what youll pay for an oil change on a car..I will NEVER serbice, buy or bring anything from this company its obvious that they dont care about the repairs they performed.

Eric and his team have always provided fair honest service. I have used them for 10 plus years and they have worked on a varienty of motors including my volvo outdrive, honda outboard, and mercury outboard. Also a good resource for honda generators. They are not cheap but know what they are doing.
