Music store with strict rules, can’t play anything without 10 min max rule, and I couldn’t even play through an amp they had on the floor. The associate plug me into some floor monitor to hear what the guitar sounded like. Felt uncomfortable in the store the entire time. Not sure who this store is designed for but surely not me.

In defense of my friend Aidan, most things you are accusing of us arent true. Yes we took a bass and a guitar off without asking. We were not aware of that rule because this was our first time trying out guitars at this store. Your associates did everything with the amps. They are the ones who had the volume up high. Only 3 of the 4 of us played guitars, and only two amps were available. I was cut off in the middle of a solo by your employee so that someone else could use it. Every few minutes we were asked if we would buy the guitar. Im aware as a small business you need people to buy but di you expect a few 17 year olds to drop $500-1000 within 30 min of finding a guitar? We need things like strings and picks and wanted to buy local. After the pressure we recieved, we left without buying anything. So yes, maybe guitar center is better fit for us.

John Lekavich advised me to do business over the phone and outside of Reverb.com so that he could avoid their fees and I would not be charged taxes. The T5 he assured me was brand new has a broken saddle and is not brand new as advertised.I have called all week and sent him several emails with pics of the broken saddle; he has not replied. John has not conducted himself as an adult nor a professional, and I do not recommend doing business with him nor Midlothian Music.

Ive been meaning to write this review for quite some time.I am the type of person to get it into my head that I want to try something and then I cant stop thinking about it until I do. Cue Midlothian Music. I Googled for a bit about different places and nowhere seemed to have what I thought I was looking for.I am a musician but only vocal so this was my fist time looking for an instrument outside of my own voice. I arrived around 4PM and was met by a sales associate (unfortunately I dont remember his name) who was very knowledgeable, kind, and patient with me as I explained that I wasnt even sure what it was exactly that I was in search of but that I knew I wanted a ukulele. The associate was so helpful and gave me enough information to make an educated decision. I drove home with my new instrument in my passenger seat with the biggest smile on my face.I would absolutely come back when Im ready for a new instrument. I love Midlothian Music.

False/Misleading Product Description and no follow-up. I purchased a used Yamaha Student Alto sax that was advertised as being above excellent and completely cleaned (being taken apart, soaked, and cleaned with anything necessary being replaced to play perfectly). Transaction started out 5-Stars. Requested pictures, they sent the next day. Placed order and sent out the same day. When I received the package, the instrument was filthy on the inside and out. The mouthpiece was dirty and covered with scale and did not appear to be cleaned or sanitized. A few pads were completely decayed, several were cracked, some were caked with dirt and crystalized sugar. Food buildup on tone holes made playing extremely difficult. A handful of the rods were corroded. Requested refund a week ago. Emailed and messaged them several times. Silence from seller since.Update: Response from vendor is false and misleading. Instrument was reported as in bad condition and not playing well within an hour of receipt and an RMA was requested 30 minutes later. Almost a week later with no response from the vendor a claim was filed. Instrument was purchased on Reverb and shipped 2,100 miles. If the vendor wont respond, simply bringing it in isnt an option. Reverbs claim agent was unable to get any response from Midlothian either for several days, so they took the instrument back on their own policy.Instrument was misrepresented. It was in an older-generation case, so it was not a newer horn. One of the pictures was from the actual instrument body showing it was in no way super clean. I did remove the keys to clean the pads and the holes to try to be a good customer and avoid an unnecessary return. It was when I did this that I saw how bad the instrument was. Purchased through Reverb, so all communication history (one-way) is well-documented. The seller admitted the instrument was a mess that wouldnt play. The sad thing is the instrument was sent back to them in much better condition than I received it.

Two kind words folks....STAY AWAY!!!If I could give it less than a one star rating I most definitely would!Take your hard earned money somewhere else people.RUDE sales personel and theres no such thing as sale prices. They arent sale prices AT ALL, they are the FULL PRICES.No discounted sales... STAY AWAY!!!Find yourselves A REAL mom and pop shop. All that glitters isnt gold. Salt and sugar both LOOK the same at first glance.I remember looking at a bass guitar they had on display there. Seriously looking to buy this particular one.I remember gently taking it off of the stand to see how it felt. IMMEDIATELY, and I mean in a matter of what seemed like 3 nano seconds one of the sales person working there ran over to me and literally snatched the instrument out of my hands and looked at me as if I was trying to steal the bloody thing, and I am NOT exaggerating. Honestly. I was like, WOAH!!!They was no explanation of any kind just a stern look as he put the bass back on the stand. Its not that the instrument was aone of a kind either. I simply sat there flabbergasted and wondered, exactly HOW do they make ANY money in this store? I quietly stood up, left the store and have NEVER RETURNED. Now to be fair maybe the person was having a very rotten day OR was intoxicated in some way, OR BOTH!But still....Im sure that there (((EVOLUTION))) are other stores in the (((MUSIC))) area.Actually I am CERTAIN that there is!

The owner of the shop spoke to me very rudely and insisted that I was trying to sell my instrument at “retail” price, even though I obviously researched beforehand... why would I try to sell a used instrument at retail price? He refused to give me his best offer or even look at my instrument. Wouldn’t recommend this place at all. Save your time

I have taken vocal, cello, bass guitar, and guitar lessons through Midlothian Music. They are fairly priced, but I all depends on your own chemistry between you and your teacher. I think they do a great job helping you find a match with someone that works well with you. They owner and his son are super kind and also very helpful with lesson book recommendations, repairing guitars, etc. Would not recommend bringing band and orchestra instruments in here for repairs, they seem to be better with guitar and bass guitar repairs. That aside, they are a nice little business!

I always wanted to learn to play the guitar. I finally decided to go out and buy my first acoustic guitar. After checking out various music stores my search for the right guitar was over. The moment I stepped into Midlothian Music I was treated like I have been a long time customer of theirs. I had so many questions and being the first time buying a guitar John was such a huge help. He helped me find the right guitar for me. I totally recommend going here! From the experience I had, this will be the only place I will go! My experience with Midlothian Music has been quite positive. My 10 year old daughter, 8 year old son, and husband are fortunate to have Dave as their piano teacher. They have made a great deal of progress and we owe it all to him. He has high expectations for his students and his passion for music is contagious. My children actually practice at home without being asked because they want to make their teacher proud. And if youre lucky, you may even get a chance to hear him play. He is amazing!

Short Version: Came in to try out guitars just like any normal, decent person would but ended up being treated like a careless kidEvery time Ive visited Midlothian Music Ive had wonderful experiences, but my last visit left me disappointed.I came in to see how a few of their guitars compare to my guitar that I already own (which I brought in with me.) The associate I approached was very kind and asked a few questions to make sure he was grabbing exactly what I was looking for from the back. He brought a guitar out and tuned it for me.I thanked him and asked him if I could have a guitar stand to place next the amp so that I could swap between my own and the one he brought me.He told me he could just hold onto mine while I played the new one. I thought of that as being a strange solution, but I havent been to a lot of music shops and figured it was normal or something. I appreciated it.I was a little bit uncomfortable with how he stood there the whole time watching me as I played (I was playing for a decent amount of time) but I just took it as him doing me a kindness, standing by in case I needed help. But then I realized he was watching me to make sure I didnt scratch or damage the guitar.I have a bag that I wear across my shoulder that sits at my waist, and he asked me if I could make sure that the zipper doesnt scratch it. Which is understandable, I understand how guitar shops are about zippers. I look over at my hip and see that its a good distance away, nod and tell him I gotcha. afterwards I could still tell he was uneasy with how I was handling the guitar which I feel was very normally and with respect. He then asks me oh, could you make sure you dont pick too hard? which is a question Ive never been asked in any guitar store Ive visited. I didnt really know what to say so I just looked at him and then he asked me to watch out for my zipper again. At this point my thoughts of Oh, hes standing by to help me turned to thoughts of Oh, he was watching me this whole time to make sure I dont tear anything upAt that point I (regretfully) respond sarcastically and ask Would you like to just move my bag for me? Would you also like to pick the guitar for me as well?We begin to explain to each other where we were both coming from with our statements. In trying to get my point across that Ive never been watched so closely or felt like I was made out to be such an untrustworthy individual nor watched the whole time in any other music shop Ive visited, I became very frustrated and the tone of my voice took a similar turn.A manager comes over and asks whats going on. I apologize for my tone and as I attempt to explain what happened and how I felt I was treated, he interrupts me and explains to me the reason behind the employees actions. He then asks what he can do for me and how the guitar played. As I tried to continue my explanation two more times, I was interrupted two more times and was told by the manager that the employee was just trying to stand by and give me good business which is rare these days and that he didnt mean it that way.Dont get me wrong, I dont believe the employee had any malicious intent directed towards me at all, he apologized to me multiple times. Its just that the following things left a bad taste in my mouth:- He apologized to me which I really appreciate, but immediately afterwards he would go on to tell me why he treated me the way that he did, which was to ensure the guitar stays in good condition- I understood that aspect of what he was saying, keeping the merchandise in perfect condition. I was just unhappy with the way he went about it- When I tried to explain this to the manager, I felt like he wasnt willing to see my side, especially with how I was interrupted midway twice while trying to explain my issue to both of them.

As it is not uncommon for me to find different ways of doing something everyone else has done, I managed to break my tuner peg on my bass in a way most players have never before encountered. While initially worried about labor costs, I took my instrument to Midlothian Music and it turned out an upgrade on all of the pegs would be in my best investment, especially in the pocket-book. Turn-around time was perfect for my needs and the cost came in less than what I had initially set aside to get 4 strings back on my bass. This wasnt my first time turning to Midlothian Music in the past 15+ years and love having two stores to choose from!

Disgusted with this place. Both my daugther & grandson came home from their lesson in tears because the piano instructor insulted them & was very mean to my grandson who is only in Kindergarten, all because he couldnt play a song he had just started learning in perfect rhythm. Zero patience & absolutely no method of teaching other than pressuring a poor child & yelling at him to not take his hands off the piano until he tells him to. They were not refunded their money nor were they able to switch piano teachers. DO NOT TAKE LESSONS FROM DAVE! DO NOT GO HERE PERIOD!

I have been doing business with Mithalodian music for years. I have purchased instruments from them in the past with success and maintenance support. UNFORTUNATELY, my last purchase of an acoustic guitar was extremely disappointing. The guitar after only being played a few times and stored in my daughters bedroom became miss-shaped and needed repair. I took it back to Mithalodian we’re their manager accepted the guitar for rehydration after he Insinuated that I did not buy the GUI from them. After three weeks of rehydration I was informed that the brand new guitar’s strings were rusted (after the rehydration process) so now in order to play the NEW guitar I must replace the strings that were rusted by their repair shop. Service and customer service is extremely poor and they no longer sell quality instruments that they stand behind.

I would give no stars. I bought a clarinet for my grandson, and a banjo another time for my husband. The son of the owner took care of my husband and me. I went in at Christmas time to buy reeds and the store did not carry what my grandson needed. A 3 1/2 plus Van Doren reed. The man said they dont make those. So, I bought a 3 1/2. I had to return the box of reeds, as there IS a 3 1/2 plus reed made. I had my 16 year old grandson with me. This man proceeded to berate us as the group Chicago doesnt use those and if what they use are good enough for them, we should tell the teacher this is not needed. We were verbally lashed IN FRONT OF OTHER CUSTOMERS. I didnt have the receipt, but remember the discount. This sarcastic man was so intimidating, we felt lousy. I should have been rude, but, as a 16 years old, accomplished clarinetist was with me, I did not, nor am I confrontational. We left, and went to QUINLAN AND FABISH in Burr Ridge, which I strongly recommend to anyone, it is worth the ride. They had, ON A RACK, the EXACT reeds my grandson needed. So, stay away from Midlothian Music.
