Great place to come for used books. You run into a book now and then a bit beat up but for the most part they are in good shape. Any time we are in the area we stop here until I can pry my wife away. The staff here has always been friendly and the store is well kept.

I was discriminated against and asked to leave this beautiful store. The employee made sure to single me out and asked me to leave.As a member of this community, she made me feel unwelcome and unsafe. I thought bookstores were a safe place to shop she made it very clear I was not welcome in her store.Today at 1145 on 04June2021, I was singled out and discriminated against based on her political beliefs. I said nothing and simply left based on her contempt for me.Overall I shop at half price books on a very regular basis until this employee took it upon herself to insure I left the store.

I go here a lot because they usually have the book I want or will get it transferred here for me from another one of their stores. Good prices for good used books.

If I don’t have a book, record, CD, or video in stock half price books is the first place I recommend to all of my customers. They have a well trained and courteous staff and always have (or will work to get) whatever I need in stock at the lowest price and highest quality in town.

We were so sad when the Lawrence store closed but the one in Olathe is very helpful. If you can’t find a book they will transfer it in from another store. It arrives within a week.There is always something for everyone. I picked up a book of Emily Dickinson‘s poetry and there were three different versions depending on what price point I wanted.They have the latest releases, the classics, a clearance section, and vinyls. They have a large variety like Barnes and Nobles but half the price and better parking. Great place.

Not a bad place take my whole family. We always find something for everyone. The staff are kinda quirky but generally very helpful and will see if they have a book you may be interested in especially if its a sequel. They have a good variety of topics like investing, religion, yoga, sci-fi, some kids books and more.

Incredibly cheerful and welcoming staff every time I come in here. Out of all the HPB’s in the KC area, this one has always given me the best offers for my books that I was selling. Really cool store, with tons of random stuff that would please anyone. Prices are reasonable. I very much enjoy this location.

I really like the Half Price Bookstore we dont have anything quite that big here in Lawrence anymore. The big box stores left so when I was in Kansas City I decided to go there Lawrence used to have a Half Price Store but we didnt give it enough business to keep it here oh yes in fact I do like the half price bookstore and I wish we had one in Lawrence

I found this. I also found a novelization of some obscure episode of The Bionic Woman. So I think its safe to say these people have everything.

Half price books never disappoints. So many titles you can find for unbeatable prices and a new selection every time. I will never not adore going here.

Mandatory Mask requirement. I wish I didnt have to do this but. It is awful how fear mongering is happening. We are not in a mask mandate county. I will only return when half-price books gives the freedom of choice to the customer to wear a mask or not.HALF PRICE BOOKS can be so much better. I love finding the odds and ends when I go in. But it is all on chance or accidental. Finding those books and magazines would be easier if everything was logged in and could be found online. I know I would buy more if that option was more precise and easly accessible.

I went into the store, wearing the only mask I am able to wear, and the same mask I wear into every other store I shop. One of the female cashiers stopped me, told me they don’t believe my mask is good enough to shop in their store. (The store was nearly empty... they were a solid ten feet away from me) Half Price Books, you lost a customer today.

A very uncomfortable experience that has ruined this store for me. While browsing with my daughter I became aware of a worker walking pass the aisle multiple times and looking at us. After a while I heard jingling close by and saw him just inches away behind a shelf pretending to fix the books while watching us. I finally had to text my husband who was in another part of the store and when he reached us the guy finally took off. Stalking shoppers as if theyre criminals is just terrible especially when you are there with your kids.

I bought about $300 worth of books for only $29!! I love half priced book locations. I come from Iowa so the one in Des Moines is one of my favorite places to visit. I walked in and went directly to the Computer discount section and was able to find really nice quality books for more than 90% off from the MSRP! This place beats Amazon and Ebay by miles. Loved the kindness of the people working here and not to mention the cleanliness.

Great selection, even it is all second hand. The employees are respectful and nice - helpful when you need them but they arent overbearing or pushy.I also found the crown jewel of my collection her for $9, so theyre a winner in my book.

With libraries not accepting book donations, I was happy to have a place for boxes of our books to find another home. A lot of people had the same idea, but most were selling theirs. I considered that, but didnt want to wait, so I donated ours. Check the store hours for the specific days/times for selling your books. Helpful, pleasant staff. A great selection of books, including audible options, videos, games and more.

Decent selection of new and used books(most in fairly good shape), both hardback & paperback. If you plan to sell any books, plan on waiting 20min to 2 hrs...and the cash back is lower than other book resellers.

Prices are good if your buying but if you are selling, its a joke. Brought in paperbacks I know they resell for a minimum of $5 and I got 15 cents a piece and the same amount for books I know sell for much more. A 3% payout is pretty chintzy. Didnt even make enough to cover gas money. Save yourself the trip and donate.

I got myself so used to the Half Price Books in mid Overland Park that I often still come into this one and THINK I know where everything is but Im always slightly wrong. That said, everything is so well organized and, even if they dont always have what I need, they always have something it turns out I want.

I didnt find a specific book on red footed tortoise but I found a couple basic books on turtle/tortoises which Ive airway learned a lot 👍

Come in as a autistic adult with a box of books, video games, a old Kinnect, nearly everything in very well condition, offers 16.50 for part of my childhood and adulthood and just walk away sad with tears in my eyes, Im glad Im never going here again.

I brought in 55 books and was offered $5.50 for all of them, that is 10 cents a book! Disgusting practices, if they want people to donate to them, then the should just ask. Stay away from these crooks!!! They should have zero stars and be shut down.

I love Half Price Books! Ive been coming here since before I can remember and every time I come in, the employees make it feel like a second home. They have a wide variety of things for sale from vinyls, to games, to knickknacks and calendars and of course books. They have great prices and all employees are cautious and following Covid-19 guidelines. If you make a visit here, you will not be disappointed!

This location more open spaced than Metcalf store. Not as many options for audiobooks as in the past. I stopped selling to them because very little reimbursement on audiobooks that I originally bought there. Much less of an offer than in the past. Example: they offered $10 dollars or less on books (8 count or more) that I had originally paid at least $8-12 each. Need to check the library out. 😏

The model of selling used books with the feel of a Barnes and Nobel really works. Its fun to come across a series you read years ago that you couldnt find outside of Amazon. Large sections, very organized, very cheap! Can easily spend a few hours in here.

Great place to find games, books, movies, and music. One of my favorite stores to shop at. Prices could be a bit cheaper though, doesnt quite live up the name of half price. Got a simpsons dvd today for 7.99. Savers had them for 4.99. Besides that, 90% of the things Ive bought were in great condition.

I used to buy a lot of retro video games here out of their gaming area.They used to be on the higher end of pricing, but I didnt mind as it was convenient. Went by today and their games are for the most part 2x over retail and about 25% above eBay sold listings. We asked an associate about it and we were told well they still sell for us so we price them high. Good to go. Best of luck until others catch on. Profit is a beautiful thing, but 2x over value is pretty insane.

Always find a book I havent read, by an author I admire. Finding a hardback book with the original paper cover for $2.00 is great. There are several of us that share & trade authors. Thank you Half Price Books. Holding a book in your hand & being able to return to a favorite passage is wonderful! You can visit any country, state, era & not spend a ton of $$$$$!

Love love love this store! I love all kinds of different books and they have them all! As well as puzzles with amazing imagery that I can never find anywhere else. They have calendars of almost anything you could be looking for. All at a reasonable price too! This is a must go to store!

I like half price books. Your one downfall.... You have only certain times you will buy things. In my opinion, youre either open for business or you arent. That discourages customers from going to your store if you only do certain business at specified times. Not everybody can be available at those times because of schedules.

I love this place. Books upon book upon books to choose from. Its like a library but instead you get to keep it at least until you trade it in for the next.This location specifically is staffed with some hard working, awesome employees. They dont bother you while you browse, always polite, easily approachable, and knowledgeable of their job.Bathroom is always clean and well lit. Paper towel quality is a little lacking but hardly able to hold it against them.Store wise this isnt their largest location. OP location is larger with larger selection. That said this location really stocks the shelves with at least a few titles of most authors I search for.Lastly somewhere in the north east corner of a store might be a book where Ive stashed a treasure map. Whats the treasure? Oh just something valuable. Which book? It has eight vowels in the title and written by a man from Massachusetts. Page 418 starts the journey. Happy travels!

This place is for people that are book nerds like myself. I love going into this place for hours on in selecting one book or two or even their wide variety of selections they have in the store. This is even better than that silly old vintage stock.

Excellent place to shop for paper books and toys. Great place to do Christmas shopping for kids. Very helpful staff and we never have to wait long to check out and pay. I highly recommend going in and at least browsing the store.

Ive never even stepped foot in this business (its 1,200 miles away from my residence) but I can tell you, their service is absolutely phenomenal! I found a lead on the internet that the store had a complete set of the Animorphs book series (90s kids rejoice!) for a barebones price. So I made a call to the store, after hours on accident, and still received a very welcoming helping hand from Carolyn (sorry if I spelled your name wrong!). She found the set, put it aside and had me call back the next day to order. I had the pleasure of speaking with Jenny, who sold and shipped me the books, all the while being a delight to talk to. I could go on and on about this experience, but to sum it up: Im incredibly overjoyed and excited for such a rare purchase, all because of a couple of terrific and warm employees. Jenny and Carolyn deserve the upmost recognition! Thanks both!

A good place to find new and used books in varying condition. A wide selection of a wide variety of books throughout the store. Neatly organized by subject of material, though if you are looking for a specific book or specialized subject they probably do not have the book on site. You can however check their webpage which you can order from. They do also carry a selection of old and rare books which is quite interesting from time to time but the stock is unique to each store. They have competitive prices and also buy books, though I have not used that service as of yet.

It is a service to the public, not so much a business. Find past top selling novelists and informational books at a reduced price. Many patrons re-sell their purchases when they return. They have music albums, music and assorted games and puzzles for sale. These stores are a necessity to our society.especiallyfor the children of today.

Hands down the best place to get your books. The prices are, well, you guessed it, half price compared to the big name book stores. I also love the knick knacks at the front of the store near the registers, as well as the video games.

If you love books this is the place to go! They have every kind you want. Even some out of print books, and they are very reasonably priced! Most books are under $10! I love this place. They will also buy your used books. I always find a treasure every time I go.

This Half Price Books always has an amazing selection of books to purchase. The staff is friendly and the store is usually very tidy and well organized. My only problem is when selling, I always feel like Ive been robbed. I sold two tote bags stuffed with newer YA fiction, and they only gave me $7. If you were just planning on purchasing from here, Id say its an amazing store to find a good read.

Great place to explore. I like looking through the rare funds and signed books up front. Their rewards club is good, many coupons, and if you dont see what you want in the store, most times, they have it at another store, which they will transfer to your store. Very helpful!

My friend likes going to Half Price Books and looking for board games. While I was looking at board games with her I noticed they also had video games and accessories. Upon further searching I found they had old consoles as well. I was in the market for an original Xbox and the price they were selling them for was reasonable. The console works perfectly though it was a bit dirty. I was planning on taking it apart for a modification so I went ahead and cleaned it up. Looks and works like new now! We also got some great board games. It looks like they have a decent selection of music as well, in addition to the obvious main focus of the store, books.

I Would like to give 5 stars but Im a little disappointed in the buy back amount I received. I brought in 20-25 books, all in very good condition. All I got was $8, thats only around 32 - 40 cents a book. There was well over $125 in books. I know that they base it on resale but I thought $8 was very low. I was expecting closer to $20, I dont think thats too much to ask. I will say that they are always friendly and very helpful when trying to locate books. So, I will continue to shop there, but I wish they would give a little more on resale.
