We attempted to have some brakes shoes re-lined to fit the manufactures specifications at City Brake & Clutch. The lining that was installed was too thick and we could not install the drums. We contacted City Brake and Clutch to see if something could be done - they told us that they could grind the linings to fit the drums. When we dropped them off they determined that we needed to grind the excess off of the drums. We told them that we wanted a total of 1/4 inch off of the linings and it would work on the equipment because it matched the manufacturers thickness. The shoes were ground and returned. When we put them on we noticed that the lining material was soft (rubbery) and the glue was loose in places. This situation would not work for brakes as they were applied while traveling. We contacted City Brake & Clutch they told us we were at fault and they would not warranty the work. This was because we decided that the linings should be ground (not the drums) - even though they would be the same thickness as the manufacture required. They would charge us again to reline with thinner linings (Why was this not suggested initially). The work was very unsatisfactory, so we will seek other options.
It took them 2 weeks to start working in my clutch. No problem there. They finally worked on it and did it wrong, took it back and left there, took them 3 days to finally hear back from them. They said that my clutch was really destroyed. Sent my guy to pick up, they didn’t have it. They shipped to someone else. One of the worst experience I ever had. Their customer service is brutal. If you have an option go somewhere else or online.
Price Gouged....New pressure plate, clutch, clutch fork, new through-out bearring... She said Less than $300.00... great... I said lets do it...She said Clutch fork would not be more than $50.00 then charged me $70.00.My clutch kit was supposed to be less than $300, they charged me nearly $600.00.I called Phoenix Friction, the company that manufactured and shipped the clutch kit... City Brake was given free shipping yet..... they charged me $60.00 for shipping...When I reminded City Brake of their estimate, she gave me a $50.00 discount... I was desperate and had to pay...I believe I was price gouged due to them knowing, (as I made a down payment with my Social Security debit card)... That I most and likely would be receiving the $1400.00 Covid-19 check and they wanted a larger piece of it.They were very friendly and at first blush, fair. However, If cheaters and liars could swim... City Brake would be an ocean.
They are always great to work with and reasonably priced!
