This is late in posting, but we have only great things to say about Chances for Dessert! Not only are their cupcakes delicious, but we were able to coordinate a chance for our aspiring 9 year-old baker to work directly with Autumn as a special event for her birthday. She really enjoyed learning techniques and using them to make an amazing unicorn cake that looked great and tasted even better! Thanks you so much Chances for Dessert for making our kids birthday during this challenging time a memorable one that she is still talking about months later!
I was told by another community member when this shop first opened that it is called “chances“ as a type of “fun concept“ because the hours change and you “take a chance” whether they’re open or not. Things may have changed to a more definite but still very limited schedule. I’ve been in several times, trying a hand pie early on, and a few different cupcakes. I found the cake mostly dry and the icings unpleasant with the exception of one- I LOVE a good icing so I really wanted to like it. I do not like most of the desserts at the local markets. The hand pie was also a bit dry with very little filling. At one visit someone wanted a large order of fresh cupcakes for a Sunday party baked that morning, and the shop would not accommodate other than a Saturday pick up. Unlike other reviewers I did not feel the friendly vibe expected in a bakery. They have their reasons for their business model, and apparently it’s working for them as they are still open, esp during the pandemic when even busy places struggle, so I am very glad the reviews show so many people are happy with their products. Although my taste experience wasn’t good, I also prefer a business that I can drive by all different times on all different days and see an “open” sign more than “closed.” It doesn’t work for me to try so hard to find out their hours or remember when they’re open. Sometime ago some days they were supposed to be open and weren’t, so it’s just too confusing for me. I’m over 60, and perhaps this is a trendy concept for moms with little kids? This is my own experience, and I realize no business is ever going to satisfy every customer. if any. Still searching for a bakery that lives up to the desserts from my youth. (The famous muffins at The Store in Anacortes are in their own category!)
Just had the most delicious chocolate cupcake. Incredibly moist and full of the chocolatey flavor. The vanilla buttercream frosting equally complimented the chocolate cake. I could taste both flavors—neither one over powered the other. The frosting was smooth and silky and not overly sweet. I practically inhaled the cupcake and forgot to get a picture of it.
Incredible cupcakes, cheesecakes, and other fabulous treats! Check their Facebook page for their hours & plan your next visit. OR-- call ahead and place a custom order for pick up. Either way, when you step foot inside of Chances for Dessert you FEEL like you walked into grandmas house. Its warm, inviting, friendly, and always smells incredible!!!
Must be called Chances for Dessert because the chances they are open are slim to none. Everytime Ive driven by (various times of day) they have a closed sign.
Pecan bourbon salted caramel cheesecake was amazing. We had it last year for Thanksgiving and our family requested it again for Christmas. It was even better than we remembered and hope to have it again next year!
Had a rum cupcakeSo soft and moist. Gimme more!!
Not only is every thing we have tried so fresh & delicious, but the price is OUTSTANDING! At other bakers here I cringe when we get rung up with even 3 small items. Not here! Always top quality met with welcoming smiles & kind words. It would be lovely if they had a few more tables for a bit more group meet ups, but thats ok. We love the decor too. Highly recommended. Cant wait till the grand opening!
I’m not sure who asked them to bake so amazingly, but I’m glad they do! I’ll let my diabetic grandma consume a whole cake! So moist, so rich, so amazing. The chocolate buttercream (I believe) cupcakes we got were SOOOO amazing. It reminded me an Oreo cakster. But 1000x better. The cheesecake is amazing too. I will never get Safeway’s cheesecake. As a food advocate that specializes in dessert, I highly recommend! Only issue that you will be back, maybe even more than once that day.
The owners are kind and welcoming, and their desserts are amazing! Cupcakes are light with great flavor, and their frostings are phenomenal! They come up with creative flavors, and always have old favorites as well. Highly recommend!!
Very good cheesecake. The cupcake frosting could improve, but the cheesecake is to die for. The hours are stressful, I never know from one day to the next I’d they will be open. Very good overall
My daughter has bought me a slice of cheese cake. Really good. Their cupcakes are very Moist. Would recommendon any on trying
Was that the best cheesecake Ive ever had? It might have been. The staff (owner? I think) was super friendly. I suggest stopping here after some wine from across the street.
Definitely a hidden jewel of downtown Oak Harbor. Homey surroundings, very friendly owners, and fantastic dessert!
The lemon poppyseed cupcake I tried was delicious! I would come back for this unique, fresh taste.
Lots of cheesecakes and cupcakes. They also do custom orders. Definitely worth checking out.
Awesome dessert experience! Rotational menu items will surprise and delight you everytime you visit. I follow them on Facebook and IG in order to be in the know when knew items debut!
I dont know why anyone would go to any of the grocery stores/bakeries in town when they could come here.1. Its beautiful. It has a pretty, farmhouse chic aesthetic- the rustic wood furniture, soft colors, natural lighting, and Pinterest worthy decorating are all insta worthy. This is seriously one of the cutest little shops on Pioneer.2. The prices are amazing. She makes the most beautifully detailed cakes and sells them for half the price of the decorative ones at Haggen. She even made me a custom cake and cupcakes with REAL buttercream frosting, tiny handmade woodland fondant creatures, fresh fruit, and real flowers for my baby shower. (I actually had my baby shower at her bakery.) If you go in here with just some pocket change you can choose from multiple flavors of cupcakes every day, cheesecake, brownies, rice crispies treats, cake bites, cookies, and even chocolate covered strawberries.3. She makes the best frosting I have ever had in my life. And the cake she makes is light and moist. Everything that is made in this bakery is to die for. Im not even going to try and explain, you just need to go try them yourself.I love this little shop so much, I love going here, I love the food, and the family that owns it is super nice. I suggest anyone who hasnt at least checked this place out while walking on pioneer is missing out. Its kind of across the street from Rustica, tucked away in the corner of that black top area. I definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting treats/desserts!
Amazing owners and their baked goods are to die for!
Literally never open.
Amazing, a must for everyone.
