This was a very cute coffee shop. It even has a compost bin next to the trash and recycling bins. The line was long but no one seemed to car about the line and they continued to line up. The coffee syrups are house made, there is NO caramel so dont expect any. The hazelnut was a good alternative. We got the sunrise Sammie and the sweet and spicy sandwhich and a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin. All were very good. The hazelnut latte and the seasonal pumpkin latte they had were tasty as well. There are no trays to carry everything so if you order a lot, prepare to make a few trips. It was crowded though and they have free wifi. All in all it was nice good and coffee was good.
This place is basically my second home during the school year. The staff is so friendly and attentive to the customers. The atmosphere is perfect for catching up with friends or studying. They’re doing the best they can with COVID protocols and making delicious drinks while they’re at it. 10/10 recommend. It’s my favorite.
Beautiful little coffee shop with a great vibe and friendly service. Their breakfast items are fantastic, and the coffee is top notch. Unfortunately, Ive Ive only been there in the morning, but it looks like a small selection of craft brews are on-hand for some evening relaxation. Definitely give them a try. Ill be back!
Roots Coffeehouse is a modern and slightly wood-themed coffee shop. The vibe is very friendly and casual, looks like a good place to study, read a book or hangout with friends. The barista/ cashier was great, very knowledgeable about the menu. I tried their 12oz Cold Brew, it’s okay, it’s light with a few hidden tones. Come check it out.
This is a nice and unique coffee place in the area. I always enjoy looking at the different art that they have on the wall. The pastries and lattes are my go to here. YOU MUST TRY THE ICED MOCHA. I’ve probably been here about 10 times now (don’t live in the area, just when visiting) ..Never disappointed :)
We went here for our first time today and loved it!!! I got cinnamon plum tea it was perfect and I also got a cinnamon sugar crossiant it was amazing. My mom got a honey lavender coffee and its now her favorite coffee and she said their avocado toast was the best shes had. This place is very clean and relaxing and the staff are very nice. Will definitely be back!!!
The wildwood latte makes me feel like Im sitting in a log cabin in the forest watching the sun rise. Excellent espresso and homebrew flavors.
Delicious ☕ coffee and friendly staff, while still recognizing personal liberty and allowing the choice to wear a mask - or not. Thumbs up! 👍
Nice coffee shop. I’ve been coming here multiple times. Coffee is good and environment is nice with multiple windows at the front end of the store, but there’s not a lot of wall outlets to plug in your devices if that’s something you’re looking for. WiFi is good and provided with purchase of a drink. Regular menu drinks and seasonal drinks are good!
I have yet to try their coffee but I seem to always order their matcha latte. It’s so good! The environment is always laid back and comfortable. The baristas are always nice too ☺️
Veggie tart was really good & my friend had the chocolate croissant. Im a dark roast Starbucks girl but it was still a nice cup of coffee. Good mix of people. You can enjoy a private conversation or meet a group of friends. Plenty of seating options. Counter help was friendly & helpful in making breakfast choice. Definitely will return.
Today was our first time in Roots and we’re already big fans! The lady cashiering explained their menu and told us their popular choices, which was super helpful. I got the Honey Vanilla Latte and I’m impressed! The inside of Roots is amazing and calming. I definitely recommend checking them out!
Been coming here since 2015 from TCC college and always a great place to study (of course when its not so busy). Amazing people and environment. 10/10
Nice place very friendly employees good coffee Im from Miami hard to beat theres
This was the first real coffee shop (coffee other than Starbucks) I ever went to! This was back in 2016, and I still go every once in a while (I live an hour away). My boyfriend and I have created a ton of memories at Roots, so I have a special place in my heart for this place. I love everything about this place. I love when they have lavender honey milk lattes (maybe it was lavender vanilla? I can’t remember). That has been my all time favorite seasonal drink, I wish they’d leave it on the menu. I usually get the honey vanilla latte and it’s also very good. Over the years I’ve seen them bring out more vegan options which is great! The only thing that made me sad was that they stopped carrying soy milk and now they only have oat and almond milk A great place to study and get work done. They’re slightly more expensive than Starbucks, but I don’t mind at all. Definitely a really nice atmosphere with great selection of music.
Gotta love Roots. Great place to slow down, have a chat with a friend, and enjoy a beautiful cup of coffee. The staff is always pleasant, and delicious food and drinks are a good value. While I wish wed already reached lavender latte season, the honey vanilla latte is a solid go-to. The quiche florentine was amazing, and the environment is great whether you need some alone time or want to connect with others. Love this place.(And check back in the spring for three lavender latte. Trust me.)
Great coffee and an even better staff. Remember to tip big!!
Great, friendly local style coffee house. Excellent flavor on the cold brew! Was floored how well it was made, and the taste was proof. Was talking to a business owner when they called my name, and the barista was so kind and brought the drink to my table. She was so nice. They are genuinely cool there. My only regret is not getting another cold brew for the road.
I love the customer service, and the staff is so nice 😁 10/10
Great atmosphere, but pricey!
The cashiers were nice and the place has a very nice atmosphere!
Love the cozy atmosphere here. The staffs are customer oriented and do great work every time I go here. I only drink their tea or tea latte, so I can only speak for that portion but I can tell you that their tea leaves are excellent quality. They use whole tea leaves which taste far better compared to any store bought ones. This is a popular local spot so it gets packed quickly on weekends. This is a must go coffee shop if youre in the area.
I absolutely enjoy new flavors in my coffee and this place has it. Bourbon coffee, cider chai, etc. they have a standard menu and seasonal. They have different cups depending on the drink (glassware is important), and cute decor and seating.Im not a fan of the “tip” question when establishments swipe the card, especially when its counter service and the cup sizes for water are crazy small, but thats maybe bc they ran out of bigger cups? Its still a place you must check out...wish more coffee shops opened up around the berry and 8th intersection, but for now, Roots and Crude are my faves for the south side area. Way to go root.
Very good, made exactly the way I ordered it
Really nice place! The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the other customers that come in are so nice! Its a very welcoming environment, perfect to draw or study in!
Great coffee and very good food. Great first date or study spot!
Love this place. So cozy and great coffee. Much better than a chain coffee shop!
Delicious tea latte and really nice atmosphere. Took a but of time for our drinks but its because theyre so popular! I would suggest to plan ahead and order online if you are in a hurry. Definitely will be back!
Great spot to come and relax with a coffee, they have beer too! A selection of snacks and pastries are available for a reasonable price also and the ambiance of the place is peaceful also.
Went at closing time they were super nice served us. And even let us stay while they were cleaning up for the night.
Roots is always a great experience. It has a home town feel while delivering exceptional service and serving the kind of delicious coffee and tea you would expect to find in an authentic coffee house. Roots features coffee, pastries, wine, beer and more from local artisans. Their focus on quality coffee, local vendors and knowledgeable, friendly baristas make it the perfect spot to read, visit with friends or just enjoy a cup of coffee! Every neighborhood should have their own Roots.
Comfortable little shop with good drip and cold brew coffee, as well as Kombucha on tap and a great tea selection. I love that they support many local suppliers with their selections. Great dairy alternatives and many gluten free snack options. Four stars from me because their espresso beverages are always too watery, which is a bummer!
Roots Coffeehouse as quickly becoming a regular stop in for me. I enjoy sitting in the shops inviting atmosphere while I work. The culture it brings is friendly, and vibrant.I always get the cortado as it is my favorite cortado and DFW.
The place is clean and has a chill vibe. The staff was very friendly and the service was fast and on point.
Wonderful place to have a coffee or a drink and relax!
Wonderful community coffeeshop.Tasty drinks, great atmosphere, and kind service. All you could ask for from a community shop!
Excellent coffee, friendly service. On this day with power outages and extreme cold, most welcome and appreciated they were even open. Thanks folks.
It was a great coffeehouse but it has become too pretentious. Want some normal. You cant get it. Want a black tea. Cant get. How about calling it Royal tea to fit with everything else. Most times I go to Starbucks. I prefer to support local but they are making it difficult.
Nice ambience.
If I can write a review with zero stars, I willI went there a couple days ago, and tried there latte because this is how I can tell the coffee quality, however, it was testing like SOAP !! then I asked and they told me they dont roast the beans, witch make the quality cheaper.I am in the coffee industry for very long and could judge there coffee easy since I roast the beans for a roastryHope you will get better one day
Nice-ish atmosphere but the food and coffee is not that good
It is unfortunate when an employee decides what a company can and can’t do. I had been going to this location for over a year and always order the same drink with a single shot of espresso due to health constraints on caffeine intake. (I always pay for the double shot on the online ordering menu and ask for a single shot in the notes and have never had caffeine intake issues since doing this) This morning I was told by an already behind on my drinks barista (ordered to go on my way in at 7 showed up at 730 and was not done yet) that Roots does not do single shots and continued to be argumentative about the situation when I asked why and when this started. Proceeded to let the situation go as an off chance encounter. When I went to pick up my drinks at the counter ten minutes later (740 now) she proceeded to let me know since I got two drinks doing half and half was fine. After that I decided I’ll find somewhere who will do single shots or go back to making espresso drinks on my own machine at home. Will miss the Dirty Chais as they were fully five stars.
Ive been going to Roots for a while with my friends, it has always been a great environment with great coffee. I have never had a bad encounter with staff. At the NRH location I knocked my coffee all over the floor (classic) but a staff member made me stand aside while he mopped it up and then a little while later brought me a new coffee for no charge. Really nice people, great environment, and great coffee!
Lots of space for studying but the espresso is very middle of the road. I wish they would do some more inventive or exciting roasts on espresso. I understand its difficult to dial in two beans a day though so I dont fault them too much for it
Below average coffee and service. Small amount of comfy furniture.the rest leaves you feeling like youre in a hipster cafeteria.
First thing male barista with ponytail said to me was, Do you have a mask? I had to be the one to initiate the nicety of asking how his day was going. Bluebird sandwich was a sloppy mess, slapped together with laziness and little care. Another coffeehouse that leaves you wanting more.
I was looking for better coffee than Starbucks, Google this and taste one of the best coffee which refreshed me with first sip.
I am a pretty faithful regular of a different coffee shop and came in because its its walking distance from my new apartment. It was good though! I also saw two other regulars from the other coffee shop. what a small, coffee community, good coffee has no borders or owners!
The drinks are excellent! Tried their seasonal hot chocolate.
A friend wanted to meet in person for coffee. I was hesitant because of the pandemic, but even though it was pretty busy on a Friday afternoon and we had to sit inside, I never felt unsafe or at risk. Aside from that, our cappuccino and cortado were delicious!
The coffee isn’t the best in the area, but it’s still top-tier. The ambiance and environment of the cafe is superb and one of the best in the area. Friendly staff and great place to read, study, drink, or go on a casual date.
Great place to meet up with friends. everyone’s really nice and the atmosphere is good 👍
As I’m new to the area, I’ve been looking for an intimate setting to study. Roots provides that, along with EXCELLENT customer service AND GREAT TASTING COFFEE AND TEAS! I’ve found my new favorite spot!
Really nice place! Great, comfortable atmosphere and coffee that tastes amazing. I had a 2% decaf latte and it tasted amazing (most decafs including the kind from the big store tastes pretty rough, but this was sooth and had a great flavor). Definitely coming back again.
Great place - clean and quiet to do work.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! Great atmoshpere & drink selections!
Love their coffee!
The place is a whole vibe
I love this place! So chill with good food and coffee. Service is always good and not excessively perky. Depending on the person or the amount of customers they have, sometimes theyll bring my order out to me. Otherwise its wait to pick it up at the end of the bar, which is fine either way, but a nice thing that staff does. They have plenty of cozy seating and a variety of booths and bistro tables. Their bathrooms are clean.
Very quick service! I only got a drink, but it was good. It was on the sweet side but it was good. This is a nice little place to hang out. It is frequently busy, but they get the drinks out in a reasonable time. Not a lot of chair groupings more than 4 people, so its good for little catch-up meetings, not really for a big group. Lighting is perfect.
I love this coffee shop. Its a cozy spot, and they have some of the best coffee around. Only downside is most of the good seating is always taken so it can be difficult to meet up with people, and there are not a ton of electrical outlets in convenient spots. If youre fortunate enough to get there when its not crowded, its a gem.
UPDATE*****It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been back here. BUT I decided to give them another chance and let me tell you. It’s a different environment! They have some new, SWEET staff and I’ve been back a handful times since and always treated with such kindness and they’re coffee is SO good! I’m changing my rating because they obviously are very interested in customer satisfaction. So I will continue to support this little gem! Thank you Roots!.I want to love this place so bad. It’s totally my taste, the music, the moody vibes. But unfortunately I usually leave disappointed. The coffee is always bitter and unsweetened, and I have tried different variations of the same drink multiple times here and it’s always the same, flavorless and bitter. Which makes me so sad!But the thing that really gets me is this certain barista who is very passive and unfriendly. One time my husband and I came in and ordered our drinks and were waiting patiently. The people who were behind us ordered their drinks and I guess they were friends of hers and chatted the whole time (which is fine) but they ended up getting their stuff ahead of us. When we asked where ours was she looked at us like we were a bother and murmured almost finished. I just didn’t understand why it was a problem to ask when we had been very patient and not rude in the slightest. Our stuff was finally ready and it was handed to us and no thank you, no apology just a look and that’s it.I’ve been in since and she glares at me and gives me the same passive aggressive attitude. I thanked her for my drinks as she handed them to me without saying a word and I walked out to find my drink and food was not what I ordered.I hate making a fuss when I go to places and being in the service industry I know it’s impossible to please everyone, but all I ask is to be kind to your customers. People mess up all the time and that okay! But be kind! That goes a long way with people and the mess ups usually tend to be overlooked most of the time!
Great place, tasty coffee, and friendly staff.
All the workers are super friendly and quirky. Never had bad drinks or food here. I deeply enjoy the fact they have a side where you can smoke a cigar (or cigarettes). Since it’s hard to find smoke friendly coffeehouses. They also have cool merch and local honey!
Excellent coffee, very friendly staff.
Trendy, upscale coffee shop that offers a wide variety of coffee styles, cakes, croissant 🥐, other carb type items. They offer gluten free items which were really good. They also offer ciche, and fresh to order frittatas. The frittatas, unfortunately, turned out somewhat too salty. We enjoyed trying something new. Staff were friendly and pleasant.
I love the jalapeño sausage wrap with the honey latte. Service was great
Love their coffee, kombucha, teas, and hot chocolate. Their pastries are delicious too! The atmosphere is inviting and welcoming as well. Prices are fantastically reasonably. The staff have been there a long time too and are very personable and friendly. So happy that theyre in the neighborhood!
Love Roots! Great coffee, friendly staff, comfortable, etc.
The coffee isn’t the best in the area, but it’s still top-tier. The ambiance and environment of the cafe is superb and one of the best in the area. Friendly staff and great place to read, study, drink, or go on a casual date.
Great environment to sit and relax in with some excellent vanilla lattes. Highly recommend visiting when given the chance.
Cute, good coffee.
Amazing atmosphere. Great tea
