In the Navy Exchange, you can buy various items from video game consoles to furnitures. You will need an ID in order to shop there. The price is pretty reasonable, considering that you do not have to pay taxes. I would recommend shopping here, if you can. Overall, I had a good experience, and didnt have any negative experience.
A great place to shop if youre in the military. The benefit is you dont get taxed on items. Still, I would price shop as some of the items, especially clothes, can be bought for cheaper at civilian stores. The staff are polite and professional. They are following Covid guidelines.
Biggest selection 2-story NEX I have seen! A mall in its own right!! They keyword here is BIGGEST.Double check prices before you buy however. Some items are more expensive than Target 🎯 (like video games) and Macy’s (the same *exact* clothing was on sale at Macys.com and cheaper by 25%!)
NEX closes randomly without notice. We just went by today at 17:00. They are closed.
Tis an NEX, has a uniform shop.
I just left this NEX. My cashier was a young man (he really should be referred to as a child with the way he was acting) named Dylan. The entire time, Dylan had an attitude towards me and my two friends. He constantly rolled his eyes and aggressively placed things down. He was rude and made all of our experiences terrible. I hope to never run into him ever again. For a customer service job, he should be able to explain in a polite manner to customers. He should reconsider this job. In addition, he didn’t even greet any of us when two of the three of us greeted him when we got to the counter.Other than that, this location is always fine. This is the only time I’ve ever had a problem. Thanks, Dylan!
Steven at the front desk helped my sister and I buy a pair of ear buds! He was kind and knowledgeable. Will be returning.
Great place for military, TAX FREE
Great 1 stop shopping when combined with neighboring Commissary and Package store.
Huge exchange. Was impressed at the clothing selection
I go to this location a lot since it is the closest. The employees at the Passing I.D office are rude at the front. If you are asking questions, you get an attitude and face expression out of this world. There should be a respectable people person at the desk at all times.! I believe the lines would also go faster if alot of gossip and breaks werent going on!. for the uniform part. There is no one to help you pick out the things you need, just like going to a furniture store, theyre willing to help you with everything. Especially for newbies that are out of boot camp and dont know what they need to upgrade their uniform. People in the front! Needs to Start taking the initiative to help people not the tailors. The tailors are very nice, but they shouldnt have to be the ones to stop what they are doing in the back of the store to help in the front of the store. When there are plenty of employees in the front for that
I love it. You can check my id card anytime, and make sure my mask is right. I believe a lot of Americans dont like to be told what to do. They are too sensitive, and even get offended with no matter what they are told....Keep up the good work!
Visited with a Air Force Guard friend.
Attitudes from the NORFOLK NEX staff members 24/7. There has not been one time I’ve went and had a descent experience . let’s not even get started on the ID CARD Office. I left two pairs of shoes at the front check out accidentally. I came back 2 minutes after closing to pick them up. (I live in NC, a hour away) The lady at the front argued me down and told me to come back tomorrow? Implying “I should have came back sooner” i left the place at 1600 got home at 1700 came back at 1800 .... I won’t be returning, but I will be needing a refund for both pairs of shoes.
Only those in the Military or those who are privileged to work with the Military have the pleasure to experience this wonderful place! Im never disappointed with the cleanliness and organized nature of this establishment. They have lots of stuff you need and is presented in such a way thats pleasing to the eye. Norfolk and Virginia should be proud to have a place this awesome for our hardworking, unselfish American heroes!
I used to love shopping here but after today I don’t think I’ll ever be going back... as soon as I walked in the door the lady at the desk checking ID’s started getting an attitude with me for no reason I was following all the proper procedures with my mask on and sanitized hands and everything. Also when I called up there to ask a question one of the works said they were going to transfer me and then hung up and I called back he did the same thing. Very bad experience
This place has 99% of all your Navy uniform needs. Also has great electronics, jewelry, clothing, houseware, and tool selections as well. Tons of brand names and Navy pride items. Do not forget your Military ID or you will be walking out empty handed. If you lost your ID, they have an extremely efficient ID Lab located in the second level.
Always seem to find what Im looking for.
A well kept, clean, and huge shopping exchange! I walked in and was immediately impressed with the variety and liveliness of the facility. Its just as big, if not bigger than your average shopping mall. Theres a food court at the front with Burger King, Panda Express, and Charleys Subs, among other things. Right across the street theres a Chilis and theater as well. Great place to hang out or spend money as there is no tax. Check this place out!
Great mall for military members.
Always clean and well presented. Sales floor always looks good. Customer service is great, should you need it. Enormous parking lot, although tricky to access. Food court is kept tidy.
Always has the best products. Cna get a little pricey, but they are name brand for the most part. Youll need a military ID to pay and like always, there is no tax on whatever you buy which is a plus.
The Norfolk NEX is 1 of our Favorite places to shop! Besides the main NEX there are many smaller shops inside to enjoy, including restaurants!! The sales are GREAT!! The staff is GREAT!!! You can actually go there are stay for hours and have lunch and shop. Make a fun day of it!! JUST ENJOY!!!
Its big, its tax free, its got a fairly good selection of the basics. My one main complaint is that the hardware section is fairly limited. Considering how many service members like to DIY and/or are moving into the area looking to kit out a new household, thats one area that could definitely be improved.
Looking for a couple of small items and asked an employee for location of the items. She not only showed us where to find the items on main floor but said that there was also another selection on the second floor. She then lead us upstairs and showed us where to find them. I am so sorry that I didnt get her name because I was very happy and appreciative of her awesome customer service. Thanks so much
I always enjoy shopping here. When I get some free time, I like to drive down to window shop, and shop clearance. I really appreciate the staff and their attitudes towards customers. Its why I go back so often. I feel valued and welcomed. Not in a retail and sales kind of way, more of as a family feel. Ive been going to this location for about 20 years now, theyve never failed to be excellent
Good customer service. They usually have all the items I need, but this time they didnt. Most things are completively priced. I enjoy my shopping experience because they sell everything Im interested in, in one place.😉
You can get almost anything you want here, at good prices. Surprisingly, they keep the store well stocked. I say surprisingly because one of their commercial competitors always seems to be out of what I want.
1. Loyal Customer here since 1981. Employees are tired of being taken advantage of. I would suggest you and all employees be required to read Adams Equity Theory seriously, google it and go read it and pass it along. Please dont call and try to resolve my interest in this matter, I dont need pacifying. My NEX needs to adopt a new motto and really support those who support the troops and their families.2. Stop selling merchandise from china.3. Full time employees deserve 2 days off in a row.4. Regular pay raises.5. Hiring people as positions need to be filled. There is no reason to call and inquire if I work for the exchange, These changes I suggest come from above you and they seriously dont want change in this establishment or they would have already done it. Or at least #s: 3, 4 & 5.The NEXs captive shoppers military receive annual pay raises and those who support us active duty or retirees should receive equal support financially.
I had the worst haircut I’ve ever had. I was asked if I cared who cut my hair and I said no. I was directed to Amanda. She was slumped down in her chair half asleep. She ignored everything I said and proceeded to buzz all my hair off with no regard for style or anything.
The nex is Great. They are always doing free events. They have great deals. Its always very well maintained. Since they updated the food court its even better now.
Good selection of different products and brands. Great place for gift shopping. It truly has something for everyone. They price match, almost anything. The employees are helpful and very I formative. This is one of the best NEXs there are in the area.
The uniform shop has the worst tailoring workers I have ever encountered in my 17 years of being in the Navy. There is no quality control when sewing on military ranks, service stripes etc. I had 3 different uniforms that had serious and obvious mistakes made on them. The employees are nice but the quality of tailoring is completely awful and it’s a shame that it’s coming from the navy exchange uniform shop. Buy your stuff there but go somewhere else for tailoring. Sad
Great place to go for many needs, they offer great deals, and a good customer service. I cant complain. This is a large place, and they have practically anything you need here. Just ask an employee, theyll lead you right to it. They also offer price matching.
Wish electronics and computers staff were more enthusiastic about helping customers. I milled around for 15 minutes before I identified an employee. (Vendors were busy and somewhat helpful.) I asked for a CARD READER for SD cards in photo dept. The clerk treated me like I was from another planet. Are they called something else now?
It was very nice! I was not expecting to see MISSION BBQ in the food court.... very nice surprise. I will definately be returning for them before they leave!!
Sonya in the custom embroidery kiosk provided excellent customer service. I had a last minute custom order and she was able to help me on the spot while juggling a few other customers all while provide friendly customer service. Embroidery came out great! Thanks and Ill be coming to Sonya for any future embroidery!
Norfolk Naval Base is Huge.. I dont know if you can live your whole life there and still not know certain areas of this place. This place alone has the populations of some of the larger cities and towns in America, that said All you need or could ever want is and can be provided there.. This NEX is as good as any in ALL of the Navy... If your in Norfolk You just have to go there...
Prices are always good but customer service sometimes is questionable. However, today our cashier was Verisis and she was wonderful. She was very helpful and her customer service was on point. Need more like her.
Oh NEX... Good Ol NEX... PERFECT formula to take our paychecks. Top of the line brands at a fair price and no tax. Clean and well stocked store for all the stuff you dont need but have to have it.Jokes aside, very nice place to shop sine they match Amazons price.
Extremely clean place with excellent deals. virtually everything you can imagine that you can buy all in one place. Downside is that you need proper ID at checkout in order to purchase any items. Restroom and food facilities are open to everyone.
This NEX is amazing.. it reminds be a little of the one in Oahu by JBPH. It has two levels and a wide variety of things to offer. Its clean, the staff is helpful and their garden center is addicting.
I really love this nex! We have buy so much there and have no complains that all with the products. I do think the restrooms close to the food court could be much nicer and cleaner. The front desk person has always a smile for us and is so nice. We have sometimes small talk and hes always friendly! Or she! We love to drive there and just walk around and see some of deals they have and look if we find something! I also wanna say that I love shopping baby and toddler products there!
It was great, easy to find whatever you want. Associates always friendly & helpful. I was in and out very fast. Good job NEX.
A really great exchange. Ive lived in Hawaii, California and Texas and this is definitely the best. I recommend skipping the pay day weekends if you can just for the crowds but the service and product selection are always great
Always tax free shopping you have to accept that the selection isnt always the best but as far as good quality brands they cant be beat. looking at the prices you have to wonder how much profit the civilian stores are taking. Its a great place to shop. And for those who think they shouldnt exist its a privilege well earned by our veterans.
Always have amazing deals and sales. Will be there again tomorrow for the NEX was closing. I just love this place!
Always greeted like family here. I really like shopping here. Pretty good selection too. Not AS great as San Diego, but pretty good.
Super clean. Was crowded of course.. Black Friday. But I had a good time people were polite and employees were friendly. I recommend the store to any family.
Good selection of items. Pretty much everything you would find at target or wal-mart. Food court has a good selection of fast food. Parking can be a bit challenging during rush hours. Best to go after 1900 when everybody has gone home for the day.
Great prices, even better selection. I went there thinking it was like other exchanges I have been to, but if is not at all it is huge. Bigger than I imagined it has everything. I bought all my Christmas gifts for my family here and I did not break the bank LOL. Great great place if you have the ability to go there it is worth the trip.
What more can you ask for? Huge variety of items and great prices on name brands. Everyone has a smile and make you feel as if you are all part of a family. Not to mention the profits go to our armed services. Love it.
I had a very pleasant experience shopping at the navy exchange. The people were very helpful and very friendly. I have been shopping at the navy exchange for a long time and I never had a problem shopping there.. I rarely my shopping experience as 10.
Great as always. Retired military vet. I love to shop there. Prices and food is always good.
Very nice exchange. Food Court has a nice variety. I like that they have an ID card issuing center in the exchange. Would be great if they had a refill pickup pharmacy like I used to frequent in the Pearl Harbor NEX.
Tax free is the way
Have to be military family of to be able to shop here. They sell literally everything. I was in beauty heaven. Best deals on electronics and high end makeup and fragrances. But they also sell drug store beauty at great prices.
First experience was not a good one. Went to get a few groceries with my husband. The lady at the counter asked for ID. My husband showed his ID and I proceeded to pay for the groceries. The lady then said I could not pay for the groceries because I wasn’t the one with the ID. Fine. I gave the card to my husband. Then she made a big deal about us having to use another card because she knew that one was mine! Ridiculous! Also, they have more alcohol than groceries.
So I was about to buy a bunch of stuff, and after everything was scanned the computer apparently “turned off by itself”. So we had to rescan everything. Then after my credit card was charged they said they couldn’t make the purchase. I asked for the manager, and he said that they were closed (even though I’ve been in line before closing time) and he asked me to leave. I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t just take my items since my money already came through. They said they were closed and will hold onto my items for the next time I came. They also offered me 20% off the purchase for the next time I came. Fast forward, and not only did they not have my items, they also changed the 20% to only apply to the school supplies in my purchase and refused to make it for the entire purchase. And they still owe me money.
This is a nice place. It has a lot of items from name brands to something a little less expensive. We were looking for maturity pants for my daughter. The selection was slim.
They operate the coin operated laundromats on base. Well, in name only. Operate would imply that they did anything with them. Change machines in both Ive gone too, broken or not refilled for 2 weeks. If I had the choice of depending on the exchange to do a good job or pull my finger nails out with pliers, Im pulling out my fingernails.
Sometimes you can catch good sales but just because the taxes arent added good deals are hard to come by. When good sales are going most of the employees have already staked claim between themselves and family. Dont attempt to walk in at the ID lab here. The line is always a mile long, make an appointment even though it stays booked for over 2 to 3 months out.
Lots of variety in items they sell. Good section of military pride apparel. Huge uniform shop upstairs with in house alterations. Good customer service. Clean and organized well. Several smaller shops inside the nex (flower shops, auntie Annes, food court, things remembered)
Can get pretty much everything you need here, it has a small grocery section, protein powder/pre-work out section, camping/outdoors, uniform items, health and beauty, clothes for babies to adults, dog food, and probably a lot more Im forgetting. Hosts a lot of events for holidays to parenting fairs and more. Theres no tax here but it isnt always necessary cheaper than Walmart or other retail stores, always really clean
I’ve come here twice to get my uniforms done. Both times I’ve been given a time and date to expect my uniforms to be ready for pick up and both times they haven’t been ready. I didn’t receive a call either time to extend the pick up time. Customer service lacks and ultimately wastes time I don’t have to be wasted.
Its as good as it gets for NEXS. Much improved from before. Premium quality brands across all items every single day. Wish they could figure out a way for more veterans to participate with our own purchasing power.
Another One of Other Favorite Places to go any day of the week. You got to check this one out also. Have Fun.
If you are a service member are retired that. I recommend going your local NEX and PX. Even traveling back from overseas. Its my first stop lunch, haircut, update my cell phone service all in one location really caters the service member lifestyle
It was very pleasant. Unfortunately I could not buy anything because I am not connected with the military! Have always been curious about what the Exchanges were like. Was just driving a friend to get her card.
Great prices & service. The price match promise is as advertised. I bought an item there for the regular price, and when a local store came out with a sale at with same item for $ 200.00, less, they refunded me the difference after the purchase.
Good for food and thats almost it. Haircuts are meh but also $11. But the only good thing was being able to take my family, at least until recently, had my family drive 10 hrs to see me so I went there to do shopping but now family isnt even ALLOWED there!? So I had grabbed a bunch of stuff for them and left without buying ANY of it.
Great place to shop. Lots of convenient things to do all under one roof ! Plus you can go to their food court with lots of selections ! Then go grocery shopping ! Check it out !
The entrance was filthy. Took me 30 minutes to find someone in electronics to help me, albeit, he was extremely knowledgeable. They have great styles in the mens clothing department if you wear small or medium... I wasnt real happy.
Great place to shop if your an authorized patron. Commissary, NEX and food court are all at the same location. Family friendly shopping experience with reasonable prices. There is also a movie theater within walking distance.
Its an exchange. Not sure what anyone expects from here. Good selection of items but not as good as specialty stores such as Best buy or home Depot. Overall, its worth a look.
I was overwhelmed at this NEX! Size, selection, and service. The number of associates was particularly impressive. The supervisor in the shoe department was extremely nice and helpful. I would highly recommend this store to any authorized patron.
I love coming here. The staff is helpful and nice. Their prices are a bit expensive for some items/merchandise.
Very big, and well organized. This place has just about everything you need or want. We visit here every time we make a trip to Virginia Beach.
Havent been here since before they remodeled. Impressively large store with everything you need in one place. Certainly the best NEX Ive ever been in.
Every trip here is a pleasant and pleasing experience. A place where you get plenty of bang for your buck.
This is one of the best exchanges I have been to.. Good selection of pretty much everything.. The commisary is much better at Langley
This is my mall! I rarely will buy anything without checking the NEX first. They have great prices and will price match. The staff is very friendly and the store is always clean and neat.
Mike is sales from the electronic section needs to reevaluate his attitude. I’ve gone several times & Mike seems to have the same lackluster attitude. If mike has been serving military and their families for ten years with that attitude, I feel sorry for anyone that has to deal with him. Everything else is great, Mike is just a douche.
A really great shopping experience. The NEX bills itself as the largest Exchange in the world and I believe it... The pre-Christmas shoppers really made for long lines. Being smart enough to serve my 30+ years in the Air Force, l looked around and noticed that various departments also had cashiers working. I went right up to to cashier in the Electronics Dept and had no waiting, not like my sister-service members who were in 20+ customer lines at the main checkout. Suggest you do the same...
Prices aside, they have a lot of interesting things and are usually packed. Lots of things to pick from but again, prices aside. Good walking distance from the base (might want to get a scooter or bike) but if you dont have anything else, they will probably have it. ..prices aside.
Great prices.. Love seeing our brave men and women in uniform.. Nice atmosphere..
