This is a wonderful place. Known the owner for years. He is not black, though, so why did this business show up in this search that google put out? Either way, the chocolate is good. I buy chocolate hearts at least twice per year. My parents before me bought chocolate from John also.

Bought some chocolate covered strawberries and the strawberries were covered in 3 thick layers of chocolate!Mind you, they are charged by the weight. At this point, I feel like they overpriced their product. Small businesses, sell the same for a cheaper price, better ratio, and tasty chocolate.If I wanted milk chocolate, I would’ve bought a bar of milk chocolate for a cheaper price.Very disappointed.

Made an order for a pound of chocolates when I got home open box tasted chocolates not the ones that I ordered.found a better chocolate shop in new paltz NY Krause’s chocolates all handmade number one chocolate shop in the HudsonValley New York .And a much bigger selection and much better service.

I have been going here my whole life. It is a very special place. This is homemade and very good. Dont mistake this product for regular stuff. Its not. Its world class chocolate and delicious candy. It is a bit pricy but thats why its so special to get for holidays. I cherish every bit of this chocolate. My favorite is dark chocolate covered orange peels and the dark chocolate ski boot they made me about 20 yrs ago. Yup I remember it..it was that good.

It seems a little out of place in its location, but inside you wouldnt be surprised if someone told you that it was 5th Ave in Manhattan. As far as the chocolate goes, the chocolate covered strawberries were amazing for Valentines Day 💓. You can get chocolates with any filling, milk or dark, pretty much however you like it. If you have a chocolate lover in your family, there is something for them here, no exceptions!

Commodore FabulousThis is a wonderful, family-owned shop. The owners greet you with a smile and truly appreciate your business. We just brought a family friend who was visiting from out of town and is a chocolate fanatic. The chocolate is absolutely delicious! You can choose from a huge assortment of filled chocolates, truffles, chocolate covered nuts, or just plain chocolate. Theres also excellent toffee and brittle. A definite must for visitors and a great gift for any occasion. Everything is nicely packaged too.

Food this place by accident and was impressed by it. The store has been open for a few months think it ran by father and son chocolate is homemade he said. The interior is amazing has the old English look.? Recommend stopping in to get some chocolate.

God I cant believe Ive been living in Newburgh 16 years and this is the first time Ive gone to this amazing store its been there since 1935. To gentleman that work there Gustin John Family Guys very nice very professional clean atmosphere. I was going there to pick up some chocolate for my client I ended up spending $50 on chocolate for my husband and I and I got a large variety of awesome unique trumpets its a great gift idea Id highly recommend going to the store I cant wait to go back its going to take me awhile to eat $50 worth of chocolate but Im definitely going back when Im done

Attended a candy cane making demonstration with the grands. Owner and son were knowledge, patient, fun and gracious. The store sells delicious treats at reasonable prices.

Great place for a sweet tooth.All the best in store made chocolates both milk and dark. They are a brand to be recon with. Lucky to have in the neighborhood. You pay for high quality. Definitely great to treat on holidays Valentines, Easter, Halloween Hanukkah, Christmas, New Years and Birthdays. I drop in occasionally to get the dark chocolate covered strawberries and crackers or truffles. Better than any others Ive tried. What a pick me up!

This has been a family run business for decades. The owner and his staff are friendly . What you go there for is of course the chocolates. The dark, milk and white chocolates are so rich and creamy. People from miles around go there especially around Christmas, Valentines, Easter,and Mothers Day. They use the best chocolates and nuts for there candies. The most famous item is their chocolate dipped strawberries. They use the freshest ripe large strawberries and the chocolate covering is thick. During the busy season they will have them ready for you, but even then if you want them, you have to stand in line while they make the next batch. They makes some great cream filled chocolates, candy bark, and truffles. A unique one is the candied ginger with dark chocolate on the bottom. Also, their mint patties are creamy with a nice mint flavor that is not overpowering. For Valentines day, they make a solid chocolate heart box filled with their candies, plus heart shaped chocolate lollipops, and assortment gift boxes. Also for Easter, a solid chocolate Easter basket filled with jelly Bean and chocolates, plus many other candy molds of solid chocolates (rabbits, eggs, cellphone, crosses, computers, etc.).Only word of warning if you come to buy their candy on hot days, dont leave them in a car. They will melt. Bring a cooler to put them in. They dont put a lot of food wax which is why their candy is great. You cant keep it in your hand too long for youll have chocolate covered fingers. You want to take small bites to savor the sweets, but then the fun part is to lick the chocolate off😀

A diamond in the rough! This place has amazing options. I wish one of each was a simple answer. We purchased about 15 pieces (its easy to mix and match) for just over $15. So, they are tiny for $1/each, but they are delicious. These are meant to be truly savored, not for binge eating. Buy a lot of variety and share. You will not be disappointed. I will be back.

Purchased some goods for Mothers Day for staff members at work, as well as family. Staff was courteous and polite. The inside is gorgeous. Lots of gleaming polished wood fixtures and surfaces. Takes you back to another era. Wide selection of various different Confections.

This shop has been in business forever. There is a reason for that. They have the very finest of chocolate treats hand-dipped. The chocolate could not be better, the owner there could not be nicer. These chocolates never fail to be awesome.

The Commodore has been my favorite place to buy chocolate for probably 30 years! I have loved it since the first day I walked in - back then(before the fire) it was like a trip back in time. Now its beautifully restored and still has the best chocolate.Even though I now live in North Carolina, whenever I go back to NY I look forward to a trip to the Commodore to stock up on the best stuff on earth - real chocolate!

One the best chocolatier in the Hudson valley. Easy to get to on Broadway in Newburgh, NY. The owner has been making delicious confectionery treats since before I was a little child and loved going in making candy canes years ago. Always worth a stop when youre in the neighborhood. Oh whos kidding? Ive made special trips there for family and myself as well for holidays year round.

Definitely a reason to drive to Newburgh. The staff is helpful and they even provide change for your parking meter. The chocolates are so good; the this and that is my favorite. My only dislike is that they were not open when their website and facebook pages said they were open and I had a car full of disappointed children.

I gave 2 stars only because of the woman behind the counter. She probably should be sent to edict school. Was in there this weekend with my daughter I have never in my life had a employee of a business be so nasty to my child and myself. Her inappropriate and rude comments were not needed or appreciated. As for the rest of our experience that was amazing other person behind the counter was amazing he helped me with all the things I needed to pick up and was able to help me with any questions I had. The items we bought were absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend the products from here as long as you don’t have to be helped by the woman.Had I not need the specific things that I needed would have left my quite expensive order on the counter and walked out explaining to her why I was leaving in the same rude way she was treating us..

I just drove 1200 miles to get some of these fine chocolats and you might say thats crazy but... next closest place to get this quility chocolate is all the way in Europe. For true chocolote lovers this place is paradise. For peopel that would like to experience world class chocolat with unbelievable viriety, no distance is too great. If you the kind of peorson that is happy with a Hershies bar ( not sure if I spelled the name right nor do I care to give the brand even that credit), this place is probably not for you. As for me, i will gladly cross this wonderfull contry to come get me some chicolote from Commodore. And for the owners of this business, you guys are my heros. You are making history (and some fine chocolate) and the contribution to the local economy and culture is immessurable. From service to product this place is world class!!!
