Got a taro ice cream in a waffle cone ($6.75). Ice cream was really good, loved how they executed the taro, not too sweet and tasted very earthy. Expensive tho. Also I really dislike the plastic cone they put the cone in, not only is it environmentally unideal, it makes it very difficult to eat the cone (and the significant amount of ice cream in it!). If you try to push the cone out a bit, it is very susceptible to falling out.
Sundaes and Cones brought next level homemade ice cream arrived well over a decade ago, and the neighborhood has been better for it since…while the “best ice cream in NYC” debate rages on amongst sweet-tooths, there is no denying that Sundaes and Cones serves some of the finest flavors frozen desserts in NYC from classics like vanilla and chocolate to off-the-beaten-path flavors like Black Sesame and Taro. the classic interior of white, black, and polished metal evokes those ice cream joints of decades gone. pre-pandemic, there was indoor dining but now the only seating are the two benches outside. the interior and exterior are well-maintained and super clean.Sundaes and Cone-heads (my term for fans of this place) tout the “different” and “exotic” flavors as being the draw but i’d counter that it is the high bar and consistency of the classic flavors that has brought so much joy and sugar to NYC residents and tourists. recently, i stopped buy and grabbed a scoop of mint chocolate chip cone. that scoop of minty sweet freshness was the perfect answer to a sweltering August afternoon. the coolness of the mint, the smooth creaminess of the ice cream, the balanced sweetness of the sugar, and the ribbons of thin chocolate make for an ice cream experience that one will not get from a supermarket pint or a generic ice cream chain. there’s certain amount of magic in Sundaes and Cone’s fresh ingredients and simple homemade processes that takes classic flavors and makes them memorable. there’s no gimmickry in these delicious calories.Sundaes & Cones also does milkshakes, egg creams, sundaes, whole ice cream cakes and more for those seeking other chill eats.the staff is friendly and upbeat. while they do move fast, they don’t rush you. the lines can build at S&C especially during the early evening to post-dinner hours and the weekends during the Spring and Summer. the ice cream is worth the wait, so don’t despair!
Small ice spot, perfect as a dessert after a dinner. They have a good variety of different flavours. Besides traditional flavours there are also a lot of more unique ones. Definitely worth trying them. I had a mocha chip & chocolate which both were great. My wife had green tea & rose flavour. It was a really unique and great taste.
They’ve got a nice mix of traditional and more unique flavors. I sampled a few, and ended up going with the pistachio almond which was nice (maybe a bit too sweet, which might be weird feedback for ice cream but I would’ve liked a bit more depth). I think the sesame one which I sampled might’ve been a better option. The staff were sweet, albeit very slow. There were more staff than customers, but we still had to wait quite a while to be attended.
Got the taro (left) and matcha green tea (right). Both were incredible although I have to say that the taro was my favorite. It was just so creamy and heavenly tasting. The ice cream quality here is superb and the staff is pretty nice. Only thing is that this is a bit expensive ($7.60 for a two scoop cup) but I suppose you get what you pay for.
Good ice cream and customer service! They also provide free samples - gotta love free samples! I just went here today and got a single scoop of cookie dough ice cream for $5.50. Really nice
Sundaes and Cones is one of my favorite spots for sesame flavor ice cream in Manhattan. The decor is humble and simple but we didn’t like the dark lighting.Their flavors are various and special with Asian-infused elements, like matcha, wasabi and lychee.. etc. However, flavor-tasting and indoor seating are currently not available during the pandemic.
The most beautifully prepared Banana Boat that I’ve ever had. The ice cream was excellent as well. Can’t wait to go back for another.
The ice cream here is delectable and affordable! I had a waffle cone with banana and strawberry scoops and the combo was perfect!
A wide selection of delicious flavors! Staff were super patient and friendly. My favorite was the matcha rose swirl. Super refreshing and delicious! I also tried their lychee, Thai tea, black sesame flavors, all were great!
Excellent ice cream with a wonderful selection of flavors. I loved it.
These individuals are always SO friendly. If you want great fast service and one of the better ice cream places in Manhattan, give these folks a try!MAKE SURE you get the homemade waffle cone with your ice cream. It even comes with a little holder so you don’t get all dirty (well....you’re not supposed to at least..). We’ve tried the mocha chip, the pistachio which is absolutely DIVINE, the triple chocolate chip, the mint chip, the orange flavor that’s like lime a creamsicle and chocolate chip. ALL of them are amazing. They also have some innovative flavors that we have yet to venture and taste.PLEASE support this little shop. It ALWAYS SMELLS AMAZING before you even walk in. You won’t be sorry, these individuals are so sweet and deserve all the support especially in such hard times!
I came here last night and really enjoyed my experience. They are taking COVID precautions very seriously and only allow three big groups at a time. The customer service is A1. The guy was so patient with me as it was my first time and he told me the best flavours (or most popular) there. I got taro and jasmine. Jasmine is kind of a hard flavour to describe but it smells like the perfume lol. It’s good though! Very different. I love taro and this one tasted like the taro we all know and love (if you tried it before), just a little less sweeter. Overall, I hope to come back to try the lychee or cherry vanilla flavour.
First time there, I had a cup with two scoops: Thai Tea and Sesame. To die for! It will probably be the last time I have ice cream thats not sugar-free, so I treated myself. Then a lady outside said Lavender was the best. Good thing I dont live nearby.
Unique flavours, not too sweet and great texture to the ice cream. love it
The secret here is blending their one of their unique savory or spicy flavors with a sweet one. Rum raisin + ginger was intense and magical. Huge scoops. Rich and creamy.
Amazing ice cream love this place. Clean neat very friendly.
The sorbets are insanely good - the red orange, passion fruit, and lychee flavors actually taste like the fruits. Other flavors are good as well, but Ill for sure go back for the sorbets
Chinatown Ice Cream factory is much much better in quality.
What a lovely ice cream parlor! This ice cream business is one of my favorites because the staff is always friendly and helpful.
Best ice cream around. Not an overwhelming taste but somehow really really good. Also great selection of flavors.
This is one of the better ice cream shops in the cityThey have a wide variety of flavors and they’re usually unique or differentFor example my favorite is black sesameThey don’t over do the sweetness like some companies doAnd the waffle cones are perfect and crispy and fresh!!!
Best ice-cream in NYC - end of, close the book, fire the editor. This is the end. Sundaes and Cones did it.
Would recommend a combo of lychee and cookie dough
Tastes like store bought Haagen Daaz at best high prices for what it is plus they still require masks
Its expensive, but the hazelnut was extremely bland. I could tell it was fresh had the potential to be amazing, but it was very disappointing that I paid about $11 for a small serving of bland ice cream. Otherwise, the shop is really cute.
Very nice staff and very fast service - line was long but it moved quickly - unlike van Leeuwen which we tried to go to earlier: there were only 2 people scooping and the line wasn’t moving at all. We tried 3 flavors: chocolate peanut butter, hazelnut, and strawberry cheesecake. All were delicious and I want to go back to try the taro, matcha and wasabi 🤗🤗
I came back here after last visiting a few years ago - im glad i did!, this place really should be more popular than it is. It seems like the other ice cream places in the area have more buzz - but this is the right spot. So many flavors! Such a courtesy and polite staff. My only gripe is that they close early. I bet theyd do a ton of business if they had fri, sat hrs past 10pm. Their staff sticks around to clean up for a long time afterwards so i guess when you include that and getting to bed by a decent hour 10pm is the right choice, but we watched at least a dozen people try to get in after hours.
I had my sons 1st birthday custom made here. The baker, Anita was very attentive to my details and answered all my questions. Everything was communicated via email. On day of pick up, she was very accommodating to my situation being that its an ice cream cake. She even thought of ways to make sure the cake wont slide in the car and how to make it easier for me to carry the cake because it was heavy. I am so happy how the cake came out!! The details are impeccable, the figurines, the colors, everything is more than I expected and pictured in my head. My flavors were sesame and cookies and cream. Delicious!!!!!
Friendly staff. Great atmosphere and amazing icecream. We had banana boats and you coukd choose three scoops of any flavour icecream and three toppings of your choice too. Basically build your own banana split. But if you dont like banana dont worry, add a different fruit like my husband. He had cherries on top. Thus would be our regular ice cream parlour if we lived in New York. Definitely check it out.
Underlooked... Really delicious and interesting flavors.
Excellent ice cream, cant go wrong coming here its fresh and tastes great!
Salted Carmel, was good not great
Popped in for an ice cream to go (thanks COVID) and loved their selection of flavors which included sesame, lychee, and guava along with many others. We chose orange cream (which tasted exactly like an orange cream push up pop) and chocolate peanut butter. The shop also sells ice cream cakes. They had benches out front so you can enjoy your ice cream on the spot.
Great ice cream with quite a few selections. Covid friendly. I have tried quite a few flavors here but Tiramisu ice cream is my favorite. Hurry, they run out of those pretty fast!!
They have lots of favor to choose from with sample tasting so you can decision what you want!
Good value for money, the ice cream was delicious and there were some great gluten free options to choose from. What more can you wish for with an ice-cream shop.
I was so happy to hear they had Rocky Road, which I’ve been looking for everywhere. It’s one of my childhood favorites, and for some reason high-quality Rocky Road is hard to find. I don’t eat Baskin-Robbins anymore. I’ve asked all over, and many people tell me that it’s too hard to freeze marshmallows in ice cream. That sounds so ridiculous & lazy to me - Rocky Road is a classic flavor. So I was SO excited that Sundaes & Cones had it - but then after I left & got past the sprinkles, I realized they had used peanuts instead of almonds. I guess there technically can be different nuts in Rocky Road, but if you are not using the standard -almonds!! - you should let the customer know. More importantly, no marshmallows!I even called them afterwards to ask what was in it & they said there was marshmallow sauce, but I didn’t detect any, and for Rocky Road you need nuggets of marshmallows. That is what makes it Rocky! Hello! And there were very few nuts, so it was basically a boring chocolate ice cream. Maybe if you are into Asian-inspired flavors you’d like this place - the quality of the ice cream & cone was high - but if you are going to do classic American flavors, do them right!!
Tried this place out for date night for the first time . There’s a lot of ice cream places in the area but this is by far my favorite . I love their cookie dough ice cream and their friendly service . So many flavors to choose from .
Updated Review: Ordered several pints on my last visit to Manhattan and there seems to be a significant drop in the quality of the ice cream. Flavoring was still fine. The cream, however, was icy (maybe air was getting into the ice cream machines) and seemed to have a lower butter fat content and less bite. Overall, it was no longer on par with the quality ice cream shops I frequent in CT. Maybe they changed cream vendors or there was a malfunctioning machine. Ill be back and update this review with my next visit.Old 5 Star Review: Easily the best quality ice cream Ive tried in the city so far. Flavoring is on point and the cream seems to have a pretty high butter fat content.
Amazing, quick service and amazing ice cream for a good price. Highly recommend! (Note: there is a $5 minimum to use card but youll probably spend $5+ anyway)
Only place in NYC/ NJ that sells Corn flavored Ice-cream. If you havent had any, you do not know what you are missing!!!!!!!!!!
Great and unusual flavors. Black sesame is the best!
Delicious ice cream!
Three words. Thai. Tea. Flavor. Its delicious! I like the variety of classic flavors and more experimental, unique flavor options. It has a little bit of something for everyone, whether or not youre looking to play it safe or put yourself a little out there and try something new. I also enjoy the black sesame, taro, etc. But the thai tea here will always hold a special place in my ice cream heart. :)
Great spot for an appetite of any size. The service was very welcoming and sociable. The bill was reasonable I would say.
Amazing. I’ve been craving the black sesame ice cream for so long and finally found a perfect spot for it! So creamy and delicious. Also love the green tea and other flavors! I think bf and I are seriously addicted. 🥰
Still giving samples ! Even during Nyc lockdown with masks and social distancing ! You just have to pull your mask down to eat the sample but then put your mask back up . I got pineapple ice cream, absolutely delicious and highly recommended .I also sampled their famous black sesame flavor. Its very bold and not too sweet but i prefer the pineapple . Great quality.
Got a scoop of pistachio ice cream, and it was so so creamy! They thankfully let an indecisive person like me try out samples, hehe, which I appreciate, esp during COVID. Sweet staff members! I will be back!
Great service, great ice cream.
Best thai iced tea ice cream!
Absolutely delightful green tea ice cream and housemade fresh vanilla waffle cones. I just finished a cone and truly want another...good thing theres always tomorrow! Kudos to the staff for being friendly and helpful with such a long summer queue. Top choice for green tea -- I also sampled black sesame (yum!) and cookie dough (other places have better dough). Cant wait to be back!
I would say the service was very nice but price for what you get is really skewed. But I understand because it is New York. Flavors are mostly generic tasting but they do have a decent selection. Enjoy at your own risk basically.
Yummy flavors!! Nice and light!! Loved it!
Solid vanilla, really packed in my 2 scoops
After sampling nearly all the flavors in the left, more creative section, there are 3 clear winners: honeydew, guava, and the deep tasting black sesame (for those who like complex flavors). The last one would likely pair perfectly with the even more unique Squid ink flavor from LES Ice Cream Factory in Essex St Market. Too bad they arent close enough to one another!
As many have mentioned, they excel at combining staple Asian flavors, from black sesame to Thai tea, with ice cream. And honestly, some of the best Asian-ice cream combos Ive enjoyed. While the pricing is just above what Im used to paying, their waffle cone portions help offset that. If you are craving Thai tea ice cream, no better place to do it.
The ice cream options here are amazing. Wide variety and really yummy. Tried the wasabi flavour cause I’ve never seen it anywhere else. Really unique and good. The other flavours like taro and black sesame are good too!
This place is such a gem. I’ve been here several times over several years, and there are always new and interesting flavors to try. Some favorites are the corn (weird but so good), black sesame, taro, and thai iced tea
Cute little shop with some really unique flavors. I wasnt really feeling ice cream at the time because of the cold but my girlfriend had the sesame and the ginger flavors and really enjoyed it. Will definately stop by again next time were in town.
Best Ive cream in nyc
Some of the best ice cream in NYC. Homemade, creamy (never icy), and full of flavor. Highly recommend their hazelnut, strawberry or taro!
Fun little spot with pretty good ice cream! Not my favorite ice cream Ive had, but overall I enjoyed the experience. Staff was friendly and it would be perfect for a summer day!
Delicious stuff.enjoyed the flavors
Great ice cream and plenty of flavors. First time I came, I ordered the tiramisu, which had super pronounced flavors with little crumbs for extra texture. Tastes amazing an they give a big portion, nearly two scoops, for one cup. Second time, I had a green tea rose. Super floral notes, the green tea was a little lacking, but the rose was extremely pleasant. The ice cream has a great texture, not too airy or icy, just creamy and smooth. Super good! They also give out toppings (i think you can choose for no real extra costs but I’m unsure).Definitely going to be coming back more whenever I need a sweet, cold treat!
The best ice cream in the city, period.
Great ice cream. Awesome but inconsistently tasty flavors. Some ice cream tastes like its name but others leave you wondering and confused about the actual taste is supposed to be
