Amazing ice cream with possibly the best texture I have ever had, very large number of options (82 total including vegan ones) and generous servings.I had the salt & pepper with pine nuts, burnt sage and raspberry dark chocolate. All three had a smooth velvety texture that felt great and also had the right amount of sweetness.Given the texture, all standard/your favorite flavors can be safely assumed to be amazing.Although the salt & pepper sounds odd, I liked it the most. Raspberry dark chocolate was fully uniform and I didnt like that while burnt sage was really interesting.
88 flavors and I truly wish I could try them all. I decided on the Salted Caramel Pretzel and it was absolutely amazing. We had somebody with food sensitivities and the staff was very helpful in making sure that they could have something.Very delicious and already thinking of what flavor I want for my next visit.
Had 3 scoops. From most to least favorite:Chocolate Oat - Ridiculously delicious, one of my favorite ice creams ever.Burnt Sage (dipped with chocolate) - The sage flavor works well, delicious and present without seeming too herbal. Loved the chocolate dip, too.American Egg - Good, but not super flavorful like the other two.
I’ve been coming here for quite some time. I live in the neighborhood and have been in hospitality all my life. Had many great experiences here but there has been a few times that I’ve bit my tongue about in terms of awful customer service and last night really set me over the edge. A group of us ordered ice cream so our bill was a nice amount. One of the flavors I asked for that I’ve gotten in the past didn’t taste right. Lemony instead of hazelnut. After having one bite of the top flavor of “hazelnut” I walked back to the woman behind the register, and as she saw me walking over she rolled her eyes at me. I wasn’t sure what I did wrong at that point but I didn’t even begin to speak. I ignored that and kindly explained the situation and recognized she had a long line of people waiting (just as I did, it took over 20 minutes to get your order) so I apologized to her. I kindly asked if I could get another scoop if the batch was “off” for some reason but she explained that it was because they dip the scooper into water and I probably tasted a different flavor for that reason and she shouldn’t do anything for me. I’ve been in the hospitality industry all my life and the least you could do is replace the scoop or give me a fresh scoop of what I ordered if it was spoiled by the scooper itself. But she refused and was annoyed that I even asked. I then asked her for a separate cup so I could remove the “hazelnut” ice cream and just eat the peanut butter scoop on the bottom. As you can see from the photos below I was pretty disappointed that I was not even given half a scoop of peanut butter to my surprise. All I ask is that staff be nice(no eye rolls or yelling needed) and perhaps serve customers the full serving of what they paid for.
Best ice cream and gelato!! They treat their business very serious! As you can see, 8 staffs a shift for an ice cream shop on a Saturday night isn’t easy.Their flavors of ice cream are very creative and delicious! If you’re looking for some outrageous flavors, you’re at the right ice cream shop!Instead of recommending what I think are best ice cream flavors, I will leave some room for you to explore your own favorite flavors!Tips: Take a look at their menu while you’re in line! Trust me, even so, you won’t be able to make up your mind due to all flavors are very intriguing to test taste! 😋😋😋
High End ice cream parlor. A 2 scoop cup will set you back $9 and some change. My friends cup had two really big scoops, but because they ran out of mine, they only gave me 2 small scoops and instead of asking what I wanted instead, they gave me what was left in the bottom of the bucket and that was that. I felt for the price, you could at least ask I wanted a replacement, but nope. Also, no customer bathroom which I find odd for such a high end pricing establishment. Overall, I would have rather went to local supermarket and purchased three 1/2 gallons of ice cream for what I paid for barely 4 scoops. If you got the money, go for the experience, but don’t expect to be blown away by the ice cream..
It’s a food icecream place but with a decent price to pay !!The icecream is really smooth and delicious! But their staff is maybe little slow and miss on the details because when I had ordered for icecream on cones I got served with cups. But they were also generous enough to place a cone on top of the cup Lol!I had a peach flavoured icecream -tangy saltyNext was me having hazelnut icecream that was decently goodLast was the rocky road icecream that was super fantastic but tooo sweet !!!For : 3 small ice-creams we paid 22$, I guess that’s common in downtown but this place is worth trying !!
Its nice to know the owner listens to his customers. I recently visited Morgenstern’s and Im happy to say they changed their portion size on the chicken sandwich! Im so glad because the food is fresh and very tasty and now the portion size is on point. Im a very satisfied customer!!
After looking at this place and the line and the reviews I figured I would get something great. However I should have listened to some of the reviews as the ice cream is nothing special and overpriced. I got two scoops one was peach and the other was banana praline. I figured If one wasnt good at least the other would be. The peach was nothing special and the banana was okay but not great. For the amount of money you spend here you can get at least two half gallons of breyers ice cream which would be a lot better. One and done for me
One of the best Ive creams Ive had in my life. The quality of raw materials, the texture and the flavors are spot on. If you are a chocolate purist, try the dark bitter chocolate (trust me it is not bitter and it will blow your mind), the burnt sage is great, and finally the pistachio green tea is also very complex and tasty!
Wow! Unique flavors, big portions. Reasonable prices, about 10$ per Sundae. They work fast, so even there was a line of about 10 people, we got our ice cream in 5 minutes. Really loved the salted caramel pretzel sundae and the hot smudge sundae (with burnt sage ice cream).
Decent ice cream but nothing to die for. It was my first visit and find it quiet disappointing: overpriced, no restrooms and when I asked for a glass of water they told me they didnt offer tap water (tap water! Almost every creamery in the world offers water, good ice cream makes you thirsty) that I had to buy a bottle. As I said, a disappointing experience.
The ice cream was tasty, but not really worth the price or the wait. Theyre smart, they have you order and pay as soon as you walk in the door and then the wait is to get your ice cream. Otherwise I would have skipped out after a few minutes on line when I realized it would be 30-40 minutes for a couple of cones.
Delicious cinnamon raisin toast ice cream. Breakfast for dessert or is it the other way around ?🍨Morgansterns always has unique and incredible flavor options available made with the highest quality ingredients. The Vietnamese Coffee ice cream is also outstanding. The most difficult part of the process is narrowing down your choices. Enjoy!
Ive tried all the big ice cream spots in Manhattan and Brooklyn and this one is my favorite. The flavors are unique without being so out there that they are unenjoyable. Inside youll feel like youre in an old ice cream shop and the outside seating is plentiful. The only downside is that the staff are not very friendly, but who cares when the ice cream is so good?!
Awesome ice cream parlor!! First time buying ice cream Morgenstern and I wasnt disappointed. I ordered a scoop of Vietnamese coffee & one scoop of chocolate, a great combo! Planning a second visit soon to try other flavors and combinations. The staff are awesome and go beyond expectations. The ice cream is delicious, the place is clean, and theres some seating outside. Expect to pay a little more than normal for ice cream but it was worth it.
Great ice cream but a bit pricey for the amount of ice cream you get. I got the vegan banana agave ice cream which was creamy and tasted very natural. Nice amount of outdoor seating to enjoy your ice cream on though.
I ordered the coffee crisp ice cream on a sugar cone. The coffee ice cream was flavorful and a not overly sweet and the crisps were uniquely textured and carefully rolled into the center of the scoop. A completely delightful treat

People got in front of us while in line. Took an extra long time ordering and when it was our turn they said it was too late by 5 minutes for burgers at 7 pm on a Friday night. We were excited to try them and planned on ordering fries and the works and were extremely disappointed being told no.
Hands down, one of the best chocolate ice cream and hot chocolate I’ve ever had. It’s a must for all of my fellow chocolate lovers! Perfectly thick and creamy texture. The ice cream stays soft even after being put in the freezer. When in doubt, go with the Rocky Road! Its hot chocolate puts all of my other hot chocolate experience to shame with its richness and generous mountains of cream on top.
The line was long, the flavors were good, but Im not sure if I ordered exactly the right stuff. The peaches and cream tasted like only cream, so I was a little let down. Ill prob visit again when its less crowded and try something else
I love their banana ice cream flavors, but really, you can’t do anything wrong here. You pay your $5 for one scoop and $10 for two, but that’s what you’ll get in terms of quality. Arguably the best ice cream in town.
NO STARS WOULD’VE BEEN GREAT!!Gladly to say I will never go inside this location ever again!! I was treated extremely bad especially since this was my first time coming to MORGANSTERN’s. I never felt embarrassed in my life going into an ice scream shop. So much attitude for just a change of a scoop of flavor. Guy that made a big deal of me changing my order ( Tall African male) stared at me with a dirty look. One of the employees came up to me and nicely ask me what was my order due to him trying to make my order knowing that the way his co-worker treated me was wrong. Then the wrongful employee get upset at the fact that his co-worker ask me what I order. Honestly if you hate your job so much that you will treat someone like that please quit!! Or Manage please FIRE HIM. Especially since he made no just me feel embarrassed but also my two friend.
I decided to go there in this hot summer night . I know the place well and I live close to it. The person who helped me was not nice to me . They have a fidelity program and you can get an ice-cream if you collect the points . It is linked to your phone number . I asked if I could give my number since I already had an account but the cashier had moved to another person so I kept asking and he told other people « she needs time to figure it out « and then they kept calling out my name in the store « Mrs so and so please pick up your ice-cream « they said it twice as if there was an emergency. I finally had my points and took the ice-cream and left . I felt belittled . It turned me off . The place has great quality but it costs almost $10 for two flavors in a cup . Pricey
What an awful place! We thought we could enjoy a nice ice cream on a rainy night - we were absolutely wrong! The cashier taking our order was incredibly rude - no samples, rushed to order under 1 minute, couldn’t respond to questions or allergies - rushed through, an didn’t even want what I was forced to rush order! Once I was sent to pickup my scoops, I asked for lids, since it’s a monsoon, and the kid rolled his eyes and threw them at me. I asked for a bag, and was told “we don’t do that here”. Considering it’s a monsoon, we couldn’t even walk outside, and we were told we can’t eat inside. I will never come back to this place.
Huge selection of flavors at this very popular ice cream parlor! the line moves fast and staff are super nice. some good vegan ice cream options, and some fun sundaes, too.
Google thinks I went here because Id mapped it or the phone follows my location. I hear it is amazing ice cream, exotic flavors. Too bad my friends and I left without ice cream because of the long long line that we watched, with sadness, not move for a while so we gave up. No ice cream.
I cant really give a better review considering my group of 4 people was greeted with you need a mask to come in. Of every single store Ive entered in the last few months, NONE have mandated a mask if youre fully vaccinated. It probably would have been more hospitable to have someone take our order and bring it to us outside especially since there were 2 people in the store and 6 behind the counter. Another solution would be to provide a 50 cent mask. FYI they even charge a 10% Covid surcharge. Conclusion... not very well run.
I got the ginger flavored spicy ice cream, was not good at all.
Good super cream forward ice cream. The flavors are not super punchy: peach will not send you into a sunny orchard, salty pretzel will not have your nose twisting, and sour cream will not have your tongue smacking… but the cream, oh, the cream. Very rich with fatty viscosity. After a 15 minute polite wait in line you get to order arbitrary flavors, don’t overthink! Just enjoy, the fatty, fatty cream which will linger on your tongue like a unitard on a German gymnast!
The interior of the shop is very dated and the ice cream was ok not the best. The staff were nice but I wouldnt recommend to other people.
Unfortunately went today for the Fathers Day special burgers very disappointed Burger was salty fries with salty a word of advice you should separate both places from selling ice cream and selling burgers Having to wait In queue for a Burger with people who were buying ice cream I felt that was a bit much 6/18/21
I thought the overall experience was okay. The ice cream was pretty good (I had the pistachio). Good texture, and slightly better-than-average-taste.They do charge a 10% “COVID surcharge” to your bill, without any warning. You would only notice the charge if you actually looked at your detailed receipt after the payment process is complete. This felt a bit sleazy to me - particularly since you are paying almost $6.00 for a singly scoop of ice cream already (before tax / COVID surcharge).Likely will not return. There are better ice cream options in the city in my opinion, especially for the price.
Salt and pepper pine nut ice cream was excellent. Green tea pistachio ice cream listed under their popular, cancelled each others flavors out so was just ok. not a great combo. 2 scoops for 8.50. Not cheap but quality is there. Good outdoor eating which is nicely separated from pedestrian passersby.
This is the best shop in our neighborhood. We ate some delicious ice cream. The chocolate is even better.
Featuring 88 (or more) flavors, this second location expansion is impressive! Menu flavors cover the entire spectrum, from traditional ice creams, sorbets to innovative fruit- and nut-based pairings. Theres something for everyone -- and can be a little overwhelming for the indecisive! Visitors can sample up to two flavors before making a decision. Flavors pack in a punch, and while more expensive than other local competitors is well worth the visit. There is also a side open kitchen and counter space for special events.
Nothing special, the ice cream is tasteless all flavors have almost the same taste.
Ice cream is good no doubt but portions are abysmal and its certainly horrible value (in terms of what you pay). The staff is a little cocky too as if they doing you a favor by selling their icecream
I loved and mango rice ice cream it’s soo good and small cup was more than enough for two people. Though it was crowded sometime, it serves fast.
Best chocolate ice cream I’ve ever tasted and for that it earns 5 stars. However, to put it into context, it tasted like maybe 20% better version of World Class Chocolate from Baskin Robins. 20% better for 2-3x the price? You be the judge. Additionally, the service is as bad and the outside tables are as dirty as other reviews claim. I asked the clerk what the difference was between the different vanillas and was told “the Madagascar Vanilla is Madagascar Vanilla, the French vanilla is French Vanilla, etc” It was almost amusing how obnoxious this individual was… I’m fairly certain he wasn’t amused by my bothering him with a question. That said, if you don’t mind egregiously expensive prices and being treated like trash (while still being asked for a tip), the chocolate ice cream is definitely worth a taste.
I love the pistachio ice cream. So many flavors
This place has *88* flavors including classics but also featuring unique flavors like popcorn, avocado, French fry, and others. The menu is categorized in a very easy to shop through way, (ie: Vanillas, Peaches, Strawberries, Nuts). Even still, it was tough only choosing two flavors to sample which is the customer max. I ended up with Burnt Sage and Vanilla Lavender Agave (happens to be vegan) and the two flavors paired extremely well together. They were unusual but not totally out there like the French fly flavor (which yes, totally tastes like French fries in a strange, awkward way that confuses your senses. Is this fries or ice cream?). I’d definitely go back as I found the flavors to be every bit worth waiting in line.
I gave 4 because of the person who took my order. She has a good sense of paring flavors. Otherwise the ice cream I would only give 3. Salt n pepper pine nut is a good flavor, but it is not that creamy, more like a soft serve texture. But the most disappointing part is that there was only a little bit pine nut in a scoop. ( see the photo and you will understand, can’t even see any piece.)But yuzu Yamasaki is a good one.
I was on my way to Amorino for their gelato and passed Morgensterns. I thought Id check it out since Id only been to a different location some years prior and had unremarkable ice cream. There were only a few people inside so I rolled my bike to the side out of the way. Immediately the guy yelled at me that I couldnt leave my bike in there. I said I was just getting something to go. He repeated no bikes. I said nevermind, Id go on to Amorino.I had a delicious milkshake at Amorino with my bike rolled out of the way and then sat outside and enjoyed the evening.**Not cyclist friendly**
The ice cream was good, but service is terrible. Ordered a burger and when I asked about it 15 minutes later they hadn’t even started. Out of ingredients for most of the cocktails. Disappointing experience I was hoping for better.
Incredible texture, realistic to the ingredients. The hazelnut rum slipped down the tongue like a stiff island aperitif, and within the mango passion rice, you could feel the grains of the sticky rice laced with a creamy mango sauce. The only negative thing about this place is that I have to keep going back to repeat this wonderful experience.
Ice cream is fine. Too many flavors to choose from. There were 6 people working, not one of them doing their job
The cuisine was excellent, as was the ice cream. Ill definitely go back to try some of the other intriguing-sounding menu options.
Literally the best ice cream i have ever had in my life seriously some good stuff. Never imagined myself taking a 20 minute trip to go get ice cream but i do at least once a week to get this AMAZING ice cream. Blueberries and cream is dreamy and so is any flavor with cookie dough. I would cut off a toe for a pint of this ice cream. If i had to choose between my cognitive abilities and this ice cream i would choose this ice cream. If i was given an hour left in earth i would literally go and get this ice cream. Seriously it’s amazing go get it.
Best ice cream Ive had in a long time. Just the right temperature, generous portion.
So yummy he have 88 flavors you have to much choices and tastes
The best ice cream Ive ever had. Ordered the Strawberry Sour Cream Brown Sugar and Cardamom Lemon Jam. 10 stars out of 5
The ice cream is good, the experience is average and the cost is higher than the Mr Softee truck by the park, but its trying to capture the 1950s fountain shop, except without the countertop no seating its just a line and a wait for your order, and they often forget your name, so the customer confusion is harshing my mellow.
Interesting flavors. I had burnt sage and madagascan vanilla bean under it. Not the friendliest help but what do you expect from college kids? Ultra clean in an old fashioned soda lounge style room. Pretty tasty ice cream.
Very expensive ice creams. The falvors look amazing but dont taste great. You cant have any samples so its a gamble for 5.75 a scoop. You need to wear masks inside and the person that greats you and charge you for the ice cream isnt the nicest. I An never going back, if you have never been here dont!
Best ice cream in the world, this ice cream should be banned. Had two different flavors both were just out of this world
Love the black licorice and salt & pepper pinenut ice creams, especially together
Can’t believe this place is still open. Painfully slow service, mediocre ice cream, and rude staff. Tbh I think people only come here because it’s Instagram-able.
Megan was just the best at helping me with my flavors and sizes, and she was so right to recommend the crystal fix cocktail!!!! 10/10 would recommend to friend
As someone that used to regularly patronize this place I have to say I much prefer Van Leeuwen up the street on Houston. The attitude of the staff at Morgenstern has steadily gotten more and more obnoxious over time and after you endure the line the benefit is simply not worth the cost anymore. Especially with Van Leeuwen right up the street. Van Leduwen staff dont offer up any attitude or pretension- just ice cream with a smile.
I try the ice burger today, the ice cream is smooth like always, the best part is the burger bun which so good with the melting ice cream.
One of NYC’s best ice cream spots just expanded, and it’s bigger and better than ever. You’ll be hard-pressed to choose one flavor (or 2...or 3) from the sprawling menu, which retains the cosmopolitan, innovative, and whimsical spirit of the original store. The sundaes and specials are just as inspired, such as Matcha & Melon and their well-known ‘avocado toast.’As for my first visit, I thoroughly enjoyed their classic (“Smooth and Delicious”) strawberry ice cream, as well as Passion Fruit Strawberry (delightfully tart) and Cardamom Lemon Jam (possibly the winner). There’s truly a flavor for every palate here.
Been waiting a while for their new location to open and WOW! Talk about flavors a galore. I thought their location on Bowery had good flavors, but this figuratively and literally takes the cake. 88 FLAVORS! We tried four different combinations and they were so tasty. The blueberry had to be one of my favorite. Because I had that flavor I must try their blueberry pie ice cream. Heck, I wanna try this King Kong ice cream sundae. I WANT TO TRY THEM ALL! Wasnt busy either when we went. Could be because they opened when the weather has gotten colder so its a great time for everyone to go when its not busy. Will definitely go again...EDIT: Been back several times, with most recently their one day pop-up with San Francisco burger joint Kronnerburger. That was SO GOOD!! Would love for you guys to do more occasional team ups. Combining your Bourbon Vanilla with the Salty Chocolate made for an awesome shake combo. Was also a pleasure to meet the man himself, Nicholas Morgenstern, as he made our shakes for us. His story on how/where they get their blueberries is also very cool!
Quick, friendly service and the ice cream was very good too
Great ice cream, but quite literally the worst customer service experience in my life. Today my aunt waited in the incredibly long line for this icecream and the two seemingly dazed register employees told my aunt to move past them and place her order where the icecream scoopers were making their orders. We stand there waiting to be helped for about 10 minutes and then we are half yelled at by one of the scoopers that “he is just the scooper, and they don’t take orders here. We are supposed to go to the back of the line and wait.” We explained to him that they sent us there and he said “well there’s nothing I can do, go in the back and wait.” My aunt didn’t want to start anything so we just went back in line. We got our ice cream and everything was fine, aside from the fact that the whole excursion wasted an extra 20 minutes of our time. However I came back in and asked the front for some to-go cups for liquids as my aunt and I were trying to pour water from a bottle for our friends. The employ at the front, the one with a dangling earring in his right ear, said “oh we don’t have those.” However you guys sell iced coffee so I knew he was lying. I looked just over his shoulder and they were there. I pointed at the cups and said “they’re right there.” He then looked at me and said “well they’re close to me so…” I said “alright cuz” and asked someone else. Everytime I’ve been to morgansterns I’ve had a terrible experience with the employees. And listen, I’ve worked in gelato, I get it can be stressful, but I have never once taken it out on customers. It’s unacceptable. The company really needs to reconsider who they hire.
I had the black licorice ice cream! It was good!
Amazing. Tried three flavors on my first go. Ate all three scoops. Will be returning!!
Absolutely OBSESSED with the matcha pistachio ice cream here.
The customer service is really rude here. We were rushed, and I was told I could not have a caramel topping on my ice cream only in a cup. Which is inconsistent with any ice cream place ever. I ordered pretzels and chocolate chips as a topping and the server was putting the toppings in a cup to put them on top of my icecream. I asked if I could just take the cone in the cup and add caramel I would pay the extra 50 cents. The server told me she would have to charge a dollar to let me keep the cup- which by health code they would have to throw out anyway. When I requested a refund because I was dissatisfied the manager screamed at me, initially refused the refund, and said we deal with people like you everyday... We get complaints here all the time
