Super dope. Great vibes. Honestly, I spent over $700 on hats here and I would do it again tomorrow. Julia is amazing and the hats are worth every penny. I didnt buy some disposable garbage on Amazon, I bought hand crafted designer pieces that well wear and cherish for a long time.
I had the wonderful opportunity to have Julia, a darling woman from the UK, design and create a custom made hat to celebrate my brothers outdoor wedding in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Julia was a dream to work with. I made an appointment with her at her shop, brought in a photo of my dress with me, and described to her what I was looking for. She took my measurements and had me try on a few of her pre-made hats until we found the shape and color that were right. I came to pick up my custom made hat a few weeks later and was thrilled! I received so many compliments at the wedding. Plus, coming to the East Village to shop is always so much fun. I cant wait to have my fall/winter hat made with her!!
I am in love with my new hat! Are they expensive? It depends on what you value, but the time and material used in my hat is very apparent and it was worth every penny. Going back to the website now to start planning my next purchase.
Saw a post on IG about their hats on sale so I decided to stop. I’ve been looking for an everyday hat that fits my head and curls nicely. I was greeted by one of the workers (who I wish I got her name because she was so kind!) she quickly knew which styles would fit me and gave me a nice variety. Happy to saw I found the hat for me! Thank you so much.
Absolutely excellent customer service and expert services! Thank you East Village hats for custom making me a wedding hat that exceeded my dreams. Will enthusiastically recommend to anyone in need of a hat.
The quality of goods we felt don’t match the price. The blonde lady behind the counter with wood teeth was really rude to us. Someone suggested The Hat Shop in Soho which was much better, big selection and worth the money.
Lovely shop with an amazing milliner who obviously cares a great deal about her craft. I would highly recommend stopping by and having a look, its hard to leave emptyhanded.
A genuine milliner in Manhattan! The proprietor makes many of the hats sold in her store, and also features hats from a variety of other designers. The little store is filled with well-designed, handcrafted hats for men and women. They are a bit of a splurge, but well worth it! You can even bring a hat back years after you purchased it to be re-shaped or re-sized.
I wrote the below 4 years ago. In the intervening years Ive become a regular & purchased more hats than I can count. I especially love the tricorne I commissioned. Thank you, Julia! My favourite hat shop in the city. Handmade gorgeous hats in a wide variety of styles with frequent guest exhibits from milliners from all over the world.
Discovering this store and meeting Julia made my day today, during all the craziness going on 2020. I am obsessed with this store- the best material the hats made from, the delicate but perfect shapes, the subtle color of straw/ribbon/flower, how well they are designed and made. What else could you ask for? Not to mention how sweet and helpful Julia is- she knew what I was looking for from the beginning and everything she recommended was amazing. Happy happy happy 💕💕💕
Stellar! Unique! Different!Amazing!Phenomenal! The list is endless. I was amazed that I can get a hat custom made. To my liking, to my taste. No need for a generic hat made by the hundreds. I was able to hand pick my color, ribbon and hat style. Nothing was off limits. I felt that my needs were understood. The process was pleasant and easy and at no point did I feel rushed. I was told my hat would be ready in just two days. It’s all hand made in the shop. I anticipate getting my hat as it will truly be a work of art.
Julia is a legend! I really messed up my new hat and she fixed in no time. This is possibly the coolest store in the village too!
This hat shop is really great. Her pieces are unique and high quality. You can really tell that she puts a lot of time and effort into her work. I picked up a lovely raspberry beret there that Ive hardly taken off my head since.
My fiance and I went into this charming little hat shop looking for something very specific. My fiance has a very particular style and didnt find what he was looking for on the shelves, the owner was very helpful and offered to make him a custom hat and even let us sample materials and choose all the finishing details. She was very friendly and helpful. Very pleased with our initial visit. We will be picking the hat up this Thursday, I will post an update with pictures. Excited to see the finished product!
Barbara is a dream come true! She is delightful to work with, and she designed the absolute perfect headpiece for my wedding. She matched the fabric and the lace pattern from my dress and worked with me to fit the birdcage veil so it fell over my face just right. Barbara was very responsive by email, super laidback and sweet, and did everything she could to make the whole experience really special. Added bonus: I also found beautiful earrings in her shop, which I also wore for the wedding. The next time I need a fancy hat, I know exactly where to go!
The minute you step off the sidewalk into this small boutique, you are transported to your favorite aunts closet (you know, the one with taste) with dozens of hats hanging about, just waiting to be tried on and admired in the mirror. The hats exude style without hitting you over the head. Made with a distinct quality that tops off your outfit and mood: playful, grand, sexy. You name it, its here.
I had a lovely consultation and purchased a really flattering hat for a Sunday brunch event that I will wear for years to come. I have worked with another Milliner uptown who was far more expensive for the same quality! Highly recommend!! I will definitely be a returning!
I brought my own felt cowboy hat in to be stretched. I received superb and expert service. The bands were removed, the hat stretched little by little and then the hat band sewn back on and a fresh ribbon inside. I am very happy to find this kind of service in 2016!
Loving my new fall hat!!!!! Thanks so much y’all for helping me out! It wasn’t an easy decision. If only I could have them all! Can’t wait to come back and try on some more!
Julia is the best!
I love this place. They have an amazing style and they are the nicest people. They definitely know more about hats than anyone else in the city.
Nice friendly service very informative .
Absolutely one of the most delightful shops in NYC. If you cant find exactly what you are looking for, chances are they can make it for you.
Hats in this shop are beautiful and one of a kind. The proprietress of the shop will not coddle you. If a hat does not look good on you, she will say so.
Where do I begin? How about at the beginning. Aside from the fact that when you walk into Julia’s shop you feel as if you’ve been transported to a different place and time, the craftsmanship and love that goes into each and every piece is undeniable.I was absolutely amazed to find out about the sourcing of each piece of felt, feather, and ribbon. Some from small towns in England others from very small pieces of fabric available only in France. Hand died, small batch- It’s artisanal craftsmanship every step of the process and it’s beautiful. The prices of the hats can definitely be a bit shocking when you’re used to paying $50-$70 at some chain store, but I quickly learned that the reason those hats are cheap is that they are made with cheap materials. They’re also very stiff and heavy as they have to be transported from other countries and survive the shipping so they soak them with chemicals. Everything here is lightweight and delicate. You barely feel anything on your head. I would rather only have a few of these than 10 of the others. It really shows and each time I wear one of Julia’s creations I get endless compliments and I feel like a million bucks. Each time I peak in, I am treated with patience and kindness. I don’t buy something every time, but I really just love going in and trying on a few pieces. Sometimes I will try a hat on Many times before pulling the trigger. Waiting for a special occasion. But I’m never made to feel badly about that. Julia is always kind and doting. Helping my place the fascinators and telling me about the history of that piece.Add to all of this the fact that you are supporting a small business owned by a working mom and I feel very glad to spend my hard-earned pennies in one of the very few stores of this kind that are left in New York City.
Dont go to this place. I bought a nice hat and they re-used my credit card informations for another payment 1 week after my departure from NY. Since then, no answers from the shop. PLACE TO AVOID.
One of my favorite stops in New York City. Not only was shopping fun, my hat is gorgeous. Great experience.
Artist Craftsman who will make a hat for you. Excellent, excellent work.
