There are some places where it feels as if browsing if frown upon. This isnt one of those places. I happened to walk in at the same time as a mother and her young son. We were all browsing though the young boy was ready for his mom to purchase a taxidermied monkey.Ive walked passed this store so many times and occasionally stopping to view the windows. I am satisfied having finally stopped in. The items are unique, interesting, and reasonably priced--according to that mom though, excluding the taxidermied monkey. The staff is chill, helpful, and pleasant. Purchased items are mindfully wrapped so that delicate items travel well.Stop by. Browse. Buy. Spark your imagination.
I always love visiting this place when I’m in New York. It reminds me of my father’s study back before the manor burned down. But a nice assortment of curios and trinkets and my only regret was I think I overwhelmed the staff, who were very young, thanks to my unflinching eye contact and bombastic voice. Sorry guys. You’re all great.
Good vibe! Nice people! The prices are high but reasonable. Love love love this store.
If youre looking for the perfect set of skulls carved from vintage billiard balls, a 5 long snake skeleton, pieces from that special meteorite, a mounted butterfly collection, skeletons for your family closet, slices of colorful minerals, or geological decor . . . this is the place. Its pricey, a little snooty, somewhat aloof staff, and a whole lot of fun. When our kids were younger, and Evolution was in Soho, we couldnt keep them away from the place. After it moved, we lost track. Just happened to walk by Saturday. The store has improved. Its bigger than it used to be and seems more varied. The oddities are great! Its very entertaining. Prices are a bit high, but I think thats what youd expect for the unique
A wonderful collection of things long dead! Expensive, but to be expected considering the epochs of time needed to create some of them. Also rocks.
Super cool! They have neat oddities and the staff was very sweet, we got a nifty turtle specimen from here and it was great experience!
Always interesting to just walk in and browse at all their taxidermy collection! The butterfly they have are just amazing. This store is special in the sense that city people get to reconnect with the nature through taxidermy art. Every piece of specimen is very well done with live-looking and postures. It’s truly an icon for Manhattan. Almost like a mini- Natural History Museum. Give it a visit while in town !
OMG I simply loved looking at all the oddities in this interesting store. The lady behind the counter was so informative and delightfully animated when asked about their many treasures.
It’s a nice store with scientific gifts. No public bathrooms. Which is normal but the door was open so I thought it was... it’s all good!
Very intersting and unusual place. Has a lot of shells, minerals dry insects, batterflies, and sceletons of animals. My grandson 7 y .o. was very excited to visit it.
This place is so interesting and unique. I got awesome presents for my kids and interesting stuff for my house. The guy with the puffy hair who helped us was the best he was so helpful and nice.
Super cool spot to check out cool bugs fossils and skeletons. Totally worth cruising through when your nearby!
Fantastic stuff at great prices. Due to Covid, theyre probably trying to limit the number of people inside the store, and how long they stay. Thus I didnt mind calling from outside, so that theyd open for me and take my first name. But then why was there this woman, chatting nonstop with the sales boys, with no interest whatsoever to purchase anything - and the guys were delighted with the chitchat?! Hey buddies, if this job is boring, there are plenty of people who want it! Management should look for more responsible personnel.
This place is full of great old, and sometimes odd, history!!
The Evolution Store is a great Store I got a Mosasaurus tooth and its in great condition
Good variety of items and prices, something for everyone scientifically minded to weird.
Great store for unusual skull and bones related stuff
Cool spot ! But super expensive lol you’re better off going into namaste by union square to buy healing crystals. A lot of tourists become curious by this spot because they shop puts a skeleton outside the door. They have a few things/nic-nacs that you would expect to find at the hall of science or museum of natural history gift shops.
Special place. I did not find any similar place in NYC. It opens but from outside, it looks closed. You need to ring a bell. Inside, incredible pieces of stones, insects. Butterflies, so many and incredible price !!! I bought two pieces of neckless abd excited. Must go.
This store was fascinating to say the least. I absolutely LOVED it! The products are very unique and they are reasonably priced to boot! I bought a strawberry conch shell and an urchin in perfect condition for less then 5 dollars. Bones, bugs, shells, minerals, and more: it was certainly my cup of tea!
Today I learned what a baculum is
One of my favorite place to source crystals and taxidermy. I loved the previous location down in SoHo!
Been coming here for decades. Love this store. Cute little trinkets for kids who are curious about creatures & rocks.
Very unique items. Something catches your eye at each turn of your head
The employees were incredibly helpful and kind. Was picking up for my boss and even though I typically would not have entered this store (even though I passed it all the time!) I was glad to finally go in and see how interesting and cool everything was!
Cool but pricey
One of my FAVORITE stores in all of NYC. Its one of those places you just have to stop and look around in even if youre not going to buy anything (but please buy something!) because they have such amazing artifacts as well as just fun stuff. Its like a mini museum without paying admission. Ive actually noticed their prices are a bit lower for similar or the exact same items sold elsewhere, so I really appreciate that and love supporting them when I can!
Unbelievable skeletons of small animals! Being an artist, winter at home anatomy acrylic and ink sketches beautiful experience. Note: need medical credentials to purchase human ones. Oh well!
This place is a dream come true.
I was really excited to come shop here to get decor for my office. Everything looked amazing and seemed to be reasonably priced. I was in the store for a while trying to decide what I wanted. The store attendants were just talking to each other. No one approached me or offered to help. Finally I decided on a small fossil. I didn’t want to just grab it just in case so I asked one of the workers and she responded “you can just pick it up” with attitude. So I just decided not to get anything. The two workers were just literally standing behind the counter talking and when I approached them for help it was as if I was inconveniencing them at their job.
Love this store. Located in a fun area and filled with bizarre and interesting goodies. I always bring back souvenirs for my nephews from this store because they think it’s so cool! Artwork, bones, skulls, taxidermy, bugs, etc— all meticulously arranged or made into creative art pieces in their own right. Staff is wonderful, too.
A must stop shop. Lots of trinkets and interesting items to peruse. Skulls, skeletons, bones, taxidermy, crystals, etc... informative staff. Interesting gift finds. I could easily spend an hour just looking.
Awesome. I edited my review i had 5 stars and it said 2. How could i put 2 stars for a great store that my daughters attention for over an hour. Im glad i looked at your reply and noticed mistake
Fantastic store carrying amazing things. Everything is laid out on the tables or in display cases clearly, so that it can be handled and examined. They have a large assortment of beautiful and unique natural items atan assortment of prices. (Most seem reasonable, through some indeed expensive.) The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I spent over an hour looking around, and never felt any pressure. I could easily have spent more time.
A truly unique store selling fossils, minerals, skeletons, rocks, gems, and other geology/paleontology related artifacts. Ive never bought anything here, but regularly stop by to check out the interesting collection of items - its almost like a museum with all the boring parts removed. Its definitely worth stopping for a browse or pick up a gift you cant find anywhere else.
This is a lovely trinket store down in the village. My partner had been following them on Instagram for years and it was a bucket list item on our trip to New York. He was fully satisfied and even purchased a beaver skull which is in our bedroom. If the previous sentence makes you chuckle rather than squirm: this is the place for you!
I loved this place and i’m looking forward to go back, they have wonderful things!
Very weird but cool shop!
Super cool store.Unique objects if you like the natural sciences.Even stuff like meteorite fragments, fossils.Fun to look around and always a place to pick up an unusual unique gift for someone or Yourself!!
LOVED THIS PLACE. Thanks for such a rich experience. They even helped me identify a fossil from my personal collection
I literally want to own their entire inventory. No hyperbole. And the staff is always nice.
This shop is like fascinating museum, beautifully displayed. And the prices are excellent. Certainly NOT overpriced. I left with 4 cool gifts for under $40.00. The staff are friendly, informative, helpful, no-pressure.
Super fun to check out. Found a small alligator head for $20. Greatest gift ever for an animal loving nephew. Staff were reasonable for a pretty busy store, I thought.
Awesome store for weird gifts. Whatever the occasion, whatever item to give to someone would definitely be the main talking point.
The most curious shop I have ever been to! It feels like a museum because of all the cool stuff you can see (and buy of course)!
Interesting place, if youre a science and/or archeology fan, though I think its more for souvenirs than for serious science. Not everything is just fossils and bones though, they also sell some nice mineral sample collections, for those who would like to own a variety of different minerals. I would say the collections are the kind for beginners who appreciate minerals from a scientific perspective, not for beauty or decorative attributes, though they may have those too. The samples are large enough that you dont need a magnifying glass to examine them, about 2 cm long, give or take.
Interesting shop, makes it easy to collect fossils when you’re nowhere near Montana, Nevada, the Carolinas, or Arizona to get down in the sediment and dig yourself. I walked away with a pretty good size Meg tooth for a cheap price. The stock changes based on what is brought in by the store, so it’s never the same materials. The store staff also answered a lot of my questions as to how the operation is ran and where all of the stuff comes from, pretty fascinating arrangements they make.
If you are in the NYU area, stop in and look around at this shop. They have tons of interesting fossils, skeletons and general oddities. The prices actually seemed reasonable for the type of items they are selling. It is almost a museum where you can buy the artifacts that are on display.
Fascinating store with a variety of butterflies, beetles and bats. Both embedded in resin and framed. They also have some bones and minerals available. Recommended place to come and stop buy if youre a tourist! Quite the unique store.
This place is so cool! Something to buy at all price points and the staff are exceedingly lovely.
Very cool place. A lot of interesting stuff from skeletons to rocks and crystals.
Really interesting store with friendly staff
This place is really cool. If youre visiting NYC and you are in the area (or if you live in the area), its worth dropping in and looking around. Lots of unique gift ideas also.
LOTS!!!!! Of good quality things, I wish I could buy it all. And they have many learning kits for kids. Im definitely going back for some items that my nephews will love.
I was very surprised by the quality of the stuff found here, and the prices seem way better than other places that sell similar fossils. Highly recommend coming here if you are interested in bones, shells, fossils, or taxidermy of insects.
Great and hard to find collectibles and oddities! Great if youre looking for that special gift no one else will buy!!!
Visiting from Texas. I am a collector of all things nature and biology, the weirder the better. I collect bones (and feathers and shells and fossils and vintage scientific illustrations etc. etc.) and this place is absolute heaven!!!
Really weird and I love it. Got a poster for my room and keychain for my friend. Pretty cool
This store USED to be awesome! The staff used to be quirky, informative and going there used to be a wonderful experience. You used to be able to find all sorts of oddities and interesting items. Now it’s a generic store overrun with generic over priced Knick knacks. The original charm is gone and the staff is rude, unwelcoming and halfway between unintelligent and uninterested especially when it comes to answering questions about the interesting items the store still has. Hopefully you guys can regain your former glory, until then I won’t be back.
Really cool place to look at fossils and really cool historic stuff. Bought a sweatshirt thats amazing quality and has a great design. Overall great place to check out.
Wow, super neat place. Was really impressed by the collection of oddities. Definitely worth perusing to scoop up neat things for your home decor or study.
The Evolution store is the only one of its kind in nyc! If you love looking at fossils, sharks teeth, preserved butterfly specimens and a wide variety of bones and gems, this is a great store! Its like being in biology class again or the Natural History museum on a small scale.
What a cool store. All the skulls remind me of Lord Byron setting his table with wine goblets fashioned from human skulls. And other cool stuff. Not for the squeamish, thoughDont go if youre afraid of death. Lol.
What terrific store! Its like a little natural history museum where everythings for sale. Fossils, asteroids, taxidermy, dinosaur bones, rocks (Theyre minerals, Marie), etc. Such an unusual store filled with atypical, creepy things like a dissected rabbit encased in resin, and cool science souvenirs. A little expensive. Wish the store was bigger and I hope they stay around for a long time. There needs to be more shops like this.
A great selection of really cool nature-themed gifts. A bit on the pricey side for some of it, but some of the smaller items seemed good as gifts.
Awesome collection of fossils and minerals. Nice things for purchase.
Staff very helpful and patient. Its a small store but there is good breadth if not so much depth to each category: taxidermy, shells, bones, butterflies and other insects, rocks/ crystals/ fossils.
Interesting items in a beautiful shop. Perfect for the scientific or quirky individual. Also have an online store and will ship items for customers.
A bit of a natural history nerds paradise. This store is well over priced for the taxidermy items they sell, but it still seems to attract the customers with its weird and wonderful items anyway. Upstairs youll find larger items, which if just visiting, probably wont fit on the plane ride home, but are great to marvel at anyway. If you want to take away a souvenir they have smaller items at better prices, like beautiful framed butterflies, small animal skulls etc. Everything in here is done with love and respect for the animals in which theyre selling, the taxidermy is made to showcase the animals beauty rather than freak people out. Worth a visit!
Fun, fascinating, good atmosphere. Books would make it even better.
Awesome place to visit if your into taxidermy and like collecting the awesome cased butterflies. They had many butterflies but they didnt have a female morpho amathonte. Maybe I missed it.
Pretty remarkable collection of skeletons, taxidermy, preserved specimens, and related art. Creepy, sure, but this place is respectful; more about marveling at anatomy and nature than grossing people out. Very high quality rare stuff, so not surprisingly everything is either very small or very expensive.
Very interesting but may not be for everyone. Relatively inexpensive for a NYC gift shop.
Amazing place filled with human skulls and ancient treasures. I would recommend an hour roaming around this beautiful collection of artifacts. Some affordable stuff too!
Amazing spot! A great place to take your kids and/or for anyone interested in odd and unique things. Took my 13 year old son and he couldnt get enough. FANTASTIC!
Price wise, its probably not the best. But if you are at all interested in animals & anatomy... what a fun place! Basically a well-curated museum.
Neat collection of everything I never knew I always wanted.
This place is really creepy. It includes both human and animal skeletons. While the animal skeletons can be interesting and beautiful in thier intricacies, it seems inappropriate and lacking in deference to the fact that these were once human beings.
